Big Star Bar

Very cool dive bar in Houston!

Big Star Bar is one of my fave spots to enjoy some brews in an outdoor setting. cheap drinks, huge outdoor area w/ a bar near the back of the yard so you don't have to trek all the way inside for another drink & cheap drinks...did i mention that? the indoor area is alright. it's a bit dated, but whatever. they have enough space for bands to play there & if i remember correctly, a pool table? idk, it's been a while. anyway, ill keep it short and sweet. if you like dives, cheap booze & sitting outside, go to Big Star Bar!

I've had more late night hazy conversations with strangers here than anywhere else in the GHA. Why? Well, it could be attributed to the relaxed atmosphere or the shot of jager warming my belly chased with an ice cold lonestar. Probably that last one.
Yeah, definitely that last one.

Somewhere down the dark path of 19th sits a dive where you tell yourself, "I'll just stay for one more" until its 10 til 2 and the bar back bellows for last call. I've learned to give in to the fact that when it's Big Star night, I'm not leaving until the counters are being wiped down of that evenings beverage condensation and bits of peeled beer labels.

Big Star is that place that facilitates everything from the bands that are rockin' like Dokken to intense punching bag competitions where the more aggressive sex can show their manliness. Inside the retro checkered floors will lead you to the sweet spot.. the bar. There your new best friend, the bartender, will procure you your libation while you park it upon one of the weathered, well loved bar stools along the L shape bar. Don't stay there too long, the journey continues and it only gets better from here. Stepping out the door you will find an eclectic group of people that are huddled around the fire pit or possibly holding a conversation with their mates from across the picnic tables. The first time you come here you may not realize that down the whimsical walk way there is another patch of land with scattered tables. That's where the regulars tend to camp out.

Its a pet and significant other friendly so bring them along. Got a new broad? Skip the fancy wine bars and show her your playful side here. Pool tables and cheap drinks make for a great ice breaker activity. Going solo? Sit at the bar and chat up one of the badass owners/bartenders.

I love this bar and foresee many more late nights and long talks to come.
