The Happy Hour specials here on food during the week are awesome. The food is pretty good, at full menu price it is expensive, but definitely a great price at happy hour. They have a wide variety of foods that won't blow you away, but are better than most other chain bars. This location also has a projector and screen for sports games so that you can watch them in life size.
Review Source:We came for the Sunday evening half-price burger special but were told, "Sorry you're 20 minutes too early." Â They didn't offer to bend the rules, so I ordered the "Monster Meatball Sandwich". Â Frankly, it was 85 percent roll and 15 percent meatball. Â The fries were average at best, Â And pretty salty. Â A Â 2-star experience overall.
Review Source:Bill Bateman's Happy Hour is definitely the best in Towson. A bunch of great options for $5, cheap drinks, etc. I remember many evenings when I spent less than $20 and walked out of there full and with a nice buzz.
It's pretty good for lunch too. Just your typical modern American lunch cafe type of food - burgers, salads, wraps, chicken, etc. I've never been disappointed with anything here. My parents enjoyed coming to Bateman's every time they visited me at Towson. I also always loved the wings!
It's definitely a college bar, so don't come here during Happy Hour if you don't want to be around a bunch of frat guys and sorority girls.
Fun college bar located steps from Towson University. Their crab fries are really tasty. I had the Philly Cheesesteak, which was good but not the best I've ever had. They have a fantastic selection of craft beers on tap. My only complaint is we went on a Saturday night and it was full of very loud college kids. But I cut them some slack, wishing I was still in college!
Review Source:I never really have anything bad to say about Bill Bateman's.. I order carry out from the Towson location a few times a year and dine in maybe once or twice a year.
The food, yes it can be overpriced, but my hub and I have never disliked anything.
Today we decided to dine in rather than carry out because we had some time to kill. The bar was packed with Towson students. It was a Thursday around 5pm so maybe they had some drink specials going on for Thirsty Thursday; I'm not too sure though. The dining room part was pretty empty and that's where we sat.
We ordered the jumbo crab pretzel to split and it was amazing as always. I then ordered the crab quesadilla which is my usual and my hunny got some giant double bacon burger. I was scared for his life as I watched him devour this greasy, bacony, cheesy beefy tower. But whatever makes him happy, as long as its in moderation :P
My crab quesadilla was good, but I felt like they put way too many grilled onions and not enough jalapeños. I ended up picking most of the onions out. This is the first time this has happened so maybe the cook is new or maybe they just weren't paying attention. I don't know, I only ate two slices and the other two are sitting in the fridge. I'm sure it will become my midnight snack tonight.
Our server was super nice and attentive. When we got out check, we asked for $2 in change and she had thought that we told her to keep $2!!! I felt so bad when the check holder came back filled with money!!! I mean jeeze, she must have thought that we were the biggest jerks ever. I'm sure she was mumbling bad things about us haha. I immediately grabbed the rest of the money and walked it over to her, I felt that bad and I didn't want her to think she didn't do a good job! After all that, she was still so nice and thankful. I'm just glad she got the tip she deserved one way or another :)
If you want something decent, you really can't go wrong the crab pretzel, burgers, or wings. We spent a total $45 including tip for the both of us.. So yeah, for what others see as average bar food, it can be a little pricey. Other than that, check it out, the service is great and the food is great 90% of the time :P
I have a standard for bar food and this place meets it. No fuss, no muss. Good and cheap. That's not damning them with faint praise. Never had a bad meal here. Service is fast and the staff are competent, cheery and welcoming. It's a Baltimore institution... without the tolerance for mediocrity.
Review Source:One of my BFFL's lives in the Towson area, and introduced me to crab pretzel in general (the best being at Hightopps). After a few visits, my constant craving for crab pretzel got a little out of hand and she wasn't as eager to eat them 24/7, and we were crab pretzel-less. However, to satisfy my craving, I would swing by and pick up crab pretzel to go! Â I've never actually eaten here or ordered anything else, just take out crab pretzel. Crab dip - not as crabby as I'd like, a little too creamy. Pretzel - I don't think it was cooked all the way through. Not sure why I'd say three stars, maybe because I want to like it so much? The first crab pretzel was a lot better though, pretzel cooked through, not as creamy, maybe it was a good day at Bill Bateman's. Regardless, I'd still go again to get my crab pretzel fix on!
Review Source:Their food is pretty standard, but their wings are awesome! I usually go here on all you can eat wing night on Mondays. I like the honey mustard, regular hot, and garlic wings. The one thing that stinks is the first order of 10 has to be all the same flavor and every other order you get after that comes in sixes.
They do have plenty of TVs and a monsterous projecter TV in one of the dining rooms. Prices are reasonable and if you go on the right day, you can find a good deal like half off burgers on Sundays. Other food I have tried there are Ribs, crab cake, and buffalo chicken cheese steak. Ribs are OK, but the portion is way too small. Crab cake is great but they need a remoulade sauce to accompany it. Â The buffalo chicken chease steak is always a safe bet.
The service is really slow and there is about a 50% chance of the server messing up your order.
All in all, not bad if you go on the right night and maybe watch some sports on the screens. Â But depending on what you order it is hit or miss.
this place seems to be very disorganized. Â they have 2 hostesses and the house is not full, yet they can't manage to have a greeter to be in the front. Â
the food was okay. Â i wasn't impressed. Â the crab pretzel is good, like everyone else said, but it's really not that hard to make. Â
i will not come back. Â if you want to drink and eat try the crab place w. penn ave.
Let me just say, Bill Batemans is not what it used to be. It's obvious to the tastebuds that they have been using ingredients of lesser quality over the course of several years. Bill, if you're reading this; stop pinching pennies, Â and bring us the quality of Bill Batemans from 10 years ago.
The bar on the other hand is beautiful, it's the only redeeming quality of the place. It has a great selection of draft beer, and fully loaded with every liquor you would want. Flat Screen TVs with the NFL ticket. An absolutely great place to watch sports. The wings are  good, but thats about it for the food.
I am dragged to this abysmal hangout periodically because I work nearby, but I regret it literally every time I go. They screw up food you wouldn't think can be screwed up- by far the nastiest fish and chips I've ever had, with fish literally inedible. Nachos are disgusting, with liquid cheese-food straight from the can. Fries are edible but not good. Beer is adequate, but that's it. I think the bottom line is that they must not hire cooks: they hire some Towson students to staff the microwaves and deep fat fryers. I would pay a decent sum to have this place replaced with a restaurant that produced real, decent food, but they must be making a mint selling "cheese food" and other food byproducts at a high markup to their captive audience. If you can get away, by all means do. If you can't, be sure to drink a beer or two before trying to eat anything. That way you might not notice how bad all the food is.
Review Source:I actually enjoy a Bill Bateman's outing every so often. While their happy hour specials have drastically changed over the years (I miss the cheesy tater tots that used to be served during complimentary wing night), you can always count on the massive menu of deliciously bad for you bar food, cold beer and acceptable service. Except for that one time the host tried to make a funny with an elderly lady in front of us and ended up inadvertently insulting her. Note to hosts/hostesses: When you ask someone how large their party is, don't say "Only *insert number here*? That's all the friends you have?"
Batemans' wings are decent - probably not the best in the area, but always consistently made. Come to think of it, everything I've ever had - from the French Dip to Fish n' Chips to the Cookie Monster - have all been decent. I also appreciate that their bartenders can make a good Orange Crush or Washington Apple shot.
All in all, Bateman's holds its own compared to the other bars/restaurants along the York Road Corridor.
This is my bill Batemans. OK, here's how I feel - I end up at the Batemans very often mostly because it is walking distance from my house, I don't think I would go out of my way to go. I am usually here to watch Sunday football (go ravens!) I really like the setup of this Batemans - sooo many TVs for football viewing. Be sure to show up early before a game because the bar area does fill up quick. Batemans menu is huge and has many selections. My personal favorites are the crab pretzel, crab fries and fish tacos - yum! Most of the time my food is good. But there have been a couple times my food has come out cold or over cooked.
Pros: cheap food, lots of TVs, cheap beer, huge menu
Cons: inconsistent quality
This location is on campus right next to York Rd.
They have good wings. I got the special, fish tacos last time, and they were good too. Fries are some of the best around as well.
The menu is almost as big as a Double T Diner, almost too much to choose from.
A lot of beer on tap and decorated head to toe in local sports gear.
Don't really like going here. The food is sub par at best and overpriced. They don't know how to prepare a steak, many nights are very loud and busy to the point you get ignored. Daytime staff is very rude. I almost got kicked out because i was drinking a soda but not ordering food. Even when I did on another occasion the same waitress had an attitude problem, like I was making her life difficult by her getting me my food and drink.
Review Source:$3 Steak Night packs a line of cheap ass patrons eager to grab plastic forks and plates to work through  the buffet of microwaved frozen veggies and baked potato bar until they climax with the server dishing out "steak" from a steam tray. He tongs a limp centimeter thick piece of gray meat onto your plate but not before he asks you if you want it dipped in buffalo sauce to disguise the taste of the mystery meat.
Watching the kids plow through Batemans all you can eat wing night is a close repulsive second.
You can hear the wind whistling through the ears of the TSU servers and girls manning the hostess stand. The volume is never on the million tiny TV's, and the voluminous menu of grease keeps the cardiologist in business.
One star because of the great location and  they will hook your children up with baloons and crayons. It would have been more for the kid friendly aspect, but they took out the pool tables, air hockey, golden tee, and video games to make way for more restaurant tables.
Everybody I know has sworn off Batemens, and their wings aren't remotely close to Kislings.
Pretty average bar food. Lots of menu options. Total sports bar atmosphere.
The beer selection is pretty mediocre (I'm a beer snob, so I only found one beer I'd drink). The food was pretty good. We started with the crab pretzel. Salty, crabby, Old Bay-y, and a soft pretzel. Yum. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The buffalo chicken sandwich was good. The buffalo sauce was yummy, not too vinegar-y and spicy. The sweet potato fries, however, were a HUGE disappointment. I ordered them because someone else who reviewed this place said they were great. She's wrong. They taste like dessert. Way too sweet for a fry.
We were there pretty late in the night. And stayed for a bit. I think we ended up being the last people in the place. I'm sure our server wanted to go home; and he didn't hide that fact at all. He wasn't very attentive and seemed moody with us.
It's a decent place for sports bar grub. If I lived near Towson, I'd probably go there to watch a football game every once in awhile.
Advertised "Baltimore's Best Wings" but if this is really Baltimore's best wings then Baltimore needs to step up their wing game.
Their buffalo sauce was way too vinegary.. The Original and the Buffalo Garlic were both vinegary but the Buffalo Garlic Wings were extra acidic.. we also ordered the Teriyaki which was a little salty (the soy sauce was strong!) But I gotta give it to them.. the size of their wings are pretty decent. Much much bigger than Buffalo Wing Factory's wings. BUTTT there was one thing that bothered me the most.. everything (except the sweet potato fries) came out almost COLD!! Big *thumbs down* I like to eat my food when it's still steaming hot.
Lucky for us we also happen to come here on a Monday. 49 cent wings or $9.49 all you can eat wings! You have to order a minimum of 10 wings per flavor. WARNING they charge 75 cents for 9 celery sticks (I counted!!) and another 75 cents for every ranch or blue cheese you order.. UMMM when did wing places start charging for celery and dipping sauce?? :(
Make sure you order the sweet potato fries!!!!! Their sweet potato fries earned them their 3rd star.. so you must try them. So crispy on the outside and soft inside.. it also compliments the wings very well. Parking in the front is very limited (and annoying when you get trapped in) but they have additional parking on the side. Best if you come with friends for a casual meal and maybe better if you order something other than wings!
Bateman's is a solid choice if you're looking for beer and bar food, but there were some issues with service the last time I went there that made me give it only three stars. The waiter seemed friendly and competent enough, but it took him a long time to take our order and a lot of the food came out semi-cold. It had been years since the previous time I went here and it's possible that the service issues were a fluke.
Review Source:The wings are great. The beer is reasonable. Whatever game you want to watch is on--especially is it's lacrosse. Even the ribs I had were excellent. The beer could be a little colder, the service could be a little faster, and the parking could be a little easier, but as beer/wings/sports joints go, this is as good as any I've ever been to.
Review Source:This restaurant is near my sister's place and we went to try it out before heading to Bengie's. Â We got there early and were seated quickly but it took forever to get our food. Â I guess they had to kill the cow to make the burgers. Â My sisters' food was decent but I got a taco salad and it wasn't great. Â There was hardly any lettuce and the chili was so hot that it made it soggy. Â My sister's ultimate burger was good though and so was the steak my other sister got. Â They seem to have good weekly specials and I would try again but with something else....like the crab pretzel.
Review Source:I love Bill Batemans...always big on the Chicken Chesapeake wrap, never disappointed in the food. Last time I went though, the service was a little iffy. The waitress couldn't seem to get anything right...she didn't write down what we ordered, didn't remember what we ordered, we didn't get exactly what we ordered, and she hardly came back to check on us. Maybe it was just her off night...it was busy and I cut a little slack...I'm not hard to please to begin with. I'm big on the food there because there's lots to choose from, people rave about the wings, and the atmosphere is fun.
Review Source:You'll be OK if you stick with the bar food, like wings, crab pretzels, etc. Do not get a steak, salad or other entree because the cooks (frat boys from Towson State?) have no clue on how to cook a good dinner. Its not very quiet either so forget about a date here. Good selection of beer and appetizers. Great place to watch sports. There is a TV every 3 feet on the walls.
Review Source:My rating is all about the wings! They have, by far, the best wings you'll find in Baltimore. The "Atomic" wings are the hottest they make. I could stand a couple levels hotter, but they are still the best wings in town. They have a great bar and good service. If you're a wings connoisseur and haven't tried these, you're missing out!
Review Source:Bateman's earns an extra star just for having such a great atmoshphere.
I usually walk into Bateman's with high hopes and leave feeling unsatisfied. This is mainly due to the food. No matter what I try ordering, there is always some sort of stupid gaffe that upsets me and ends up disappointing me. For example, their fish and chips comes with actual potato chips (think Lay's, Pringles, et al) rather than English chips (french fries). Now normally that wouldn't be such a big deal, but Bateman's chips kind of suck.
On the plus side, the menu is quite extensive and the bar is well stocked. One item that might be worth ordering for the novelty factor is the massive hamburger that doesn't really taste too good but gives you bragging rights if you can finish the whole damn thing.
Service is friendly but the prices tend to run a bit high for what you get. The place gets packed with college students a lot of nights so be aware of that when making dinner plans.
I have to say that I never had a bad meal there while I was in college, but I wasn't a vegetarian then. Â You'd think that a place with such an extensive menu could offer more selection than a veggie wrap smothered in cheese and dressing, because really, I can't eat that shit. Â Offer something fresh, yummy, and thoughtfully planned. Â I mean, just one dish for Christ's sake.
Anyway, the wings were nice when I ate meat.
Tonight I had to send a salad back because it was rotten. Â Yes, rotten. Â When I finally found the waitress I said, "I can't eat this; it's rotten." Â I mean, dudes, please check on the food you are sending out to tables BEFORE you send it out to the table. Â Just because you're a sports bar and offer plenty of junk food doesn't mean you shouldn't have fresh salads if you are offering them. Â I mean--if you are OFFERING them, right? Â Makes sense.
I don't know. Â I give up. Â I've been highly disappointed in their selection and food quality lately.
