Very good selection of cheese, charcuterie, and wine. It is very, very dark inside, though; I would have liked to be able to see my beautiful spread. They are also a bit pricey, but I guess we were expecting that. The only other negative was the service was pretty slow, but it was a Saturday and busy....
Review Source:Great place to end the night. Â Sit back with a cheese and meat platter with some crusty bread all washed down with a couple of beers or a glass of wine. Â We always make a point to stop here when we are in Charleston. Â Its a very low-key, relaxed atmosphere. Â The perfect place to hang out on vacation.
Review Source:Nice mellow atmosphere with a great wine selection. Â My wife and I took my mom here while she was visiting and we had a great cheese and prosciutto plate, and they recommended a delicious wine to go with it. Â I would definitely recommend this place for someone looking for a relaxed atmosphere.
Review Source:Absolutely a must on your priority list in Charleston. Patrick and Fanie are the real deal. Fabulous wine selection as well as cheese pairing. Sit at the bar and you will become fast friends. What a joy to discover this place. I was fortunate enough to happen upon their first late night Sunday. Sad to only be visiting a week in beautiful Charleston, I will give it my best effort to return as many times as I can before departing. Tell them the type of wine you enjoy and they will lead you to the perfect glass or two or bottle, if you like. Thanks for a great evening.
Review Source:I adore this hidden little gem on the far end of King St. Â The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and even romantic (if you need it to be!). Â They have plenty of wine to choose from, and are always more than happy to provide suggestions based on your preferences. Â In addition, they also have cheese, charcuterie and fresh bread to pair with your wine of choice. Â Prices can get steep if you're not paying attention, but they have plenty of affordable wine by the glass options for those of us who fear any glass of wine over $8-10. Â Which is me... until I have a few glasses. Â Then it's all fair game.
Review Source:Love Bin 152! My friend and I drove down to Charleston for a roadtrip, and after driving through the night and arriving in the afternoon, we settled into our hotel and began wandering around the downtown area. We stumbled into Bin 152 in the late afternoon, and it was one of the highlights of our trip! If you can, grab a seat at the bar. Michael is such a doll! He recommended delicious wine and cheese choices and after finding out we were from out of town, he listed some local spots for lunch/dinner and less-touristy destinations in Charleston. Michael made such a good impression on us of southern hospitality! Bin 152 was such a wonderful experience in Charleston. I can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Oh my god, I love this place. Â Great place to start an evening with a glass of wine (or a bottle if you're with friends). Â Great diverse wine list, excellent service (with proper Parisians) and a great European cafe feel with a selection of large and small tables, candle and background light only, rough-hewn and mis-matched furniture. Â Great selection of meats and cheeses, perfect for an appetizer and drink.
If you have dinner reservations anywhere on Queen or Broad, do yourself a favor and stop in here for a half hour or so, you won't regret it.
The only thing that is better than the wine and European feel about this wine bar are the staff Fannie and Patrick! Â A couple of coworkers and I stumbled into this bar after a dinner at FIG earlier in the evening. Â The bar seems more of a locals wine bar, but with the service that we received, we did not feel like tourist! Â I love that the only appetizer that I a saw was a plate of meats, cheese and bread (just like the times that I spent in Europe). Â My one coworker didn't like the fact that the bar was so dark, but it didn't bother me. Â The service, atmosphere and wine was so great that we could not wait to go back the following evening. Â The bar does not close until 2am, so I would recommend stopping by after a evening dinner before retiring for the night.
I plan to go back on my next trip to Charleston!
So do you remember that time you were in brooklyn and there was that really small nondescript dark wine bar on the corner you walked into late at night looking for some awesome wine and maybe some cheese, and you found people hanging out talking about old movies and why new jersey sucks...me either.
But there was this time in Charleston where all of this happened. I would come here solely for the ambiance; dark and basement-y, but comfortable. Wines on the walls, dark 1000 year old wood floors, spotless bright bathroom, and comforting french music.
2 people on staff, the owner and the funny guy. They were very welcoming and talkative, they gave us some great suggestions on cheese (the tripel creme...so good you could eat the skin). The bread is great too...don't ask where they get it. The wine selection is pretty vast and good for all price points.
They never close early they told us and They even went out of their way to suggest where to eat next (FIG and 2 Boroughs Larder, both exceptional for different reasons).
So if you are ever in Charleston at midnight craving an odd trip with strangers, try this place.
This is a great little wine bar. Â Michael was pouring the wine the day we were in, and he is font of local food knowledge. Â We had several great meals thanks to him. Â But on to bin 152....
Michael is also great at recommending wine and cheese and whatever else you might want off their menu. Â He recommended some very nice wine. Â We ordered an accompanying cheese also based on his recommendation... or let's face it we just let him decide for us. Â It was very good. Â Wish we had stopped in here earlier in our trip, we would have been back nightly.
The wine is chilled to perfection and the cheeses are unique, fresh and like nothing you have had outside of Europe. However, what impresses me the most was when our order was late, the owner said "no charge". I assured her it was ok but she insisted. That is true customer service. I recently bought a house in Charleston and I will make it a priority to visit each time. It's that good!
Review Source:This place was great! Â My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and stopped in here to get a drink before our meal at another local restaurant. Â I wish we had planned ahead so we could have tasted some of the nice French cheeses or Charcuterie they had on the menu. Â We lived in France for several years and do miss some of the food items that are hard to find in the USA.
Wife and I both ordered some wine by the glass, in French as the lady who helped us was French. Â She was very nice. Â I ordered a nice glass of Carignan which was delightful. Â My wife ordered an Italian Dolcetto which was just okay. Â But, the atmosphere was excellent and we planned on making it back after dinner for some cheese. Â But, when we returned, it was getting late and they were packed. Â So, we headed home.
We will definitely hit this place up again when we're in Charleston. Â A nice gem that made us miss France!
Stumbled upon this lovely wine bar while on our way to have dinner. The wine list is extensive, incorporating just about every varietal in every price range you could imagine. There's also a wonderful selection of cheeses and charcuterie to be served with toasted bread. Everything we tried (some on the recommendation of the bartender, some our choice) was fabulous. If we didn't already have dinner reservations I would have loved to stay even longer.
Review Source:Made a quick stop here via a Charleston friend's recommendation. A couple glasses of wine, including some very nice late harvest stuff. Prosciutto plate went well with what we were having. The atmosphere, as noted, is chill/cozy/classic with a typical, classic Charleston feel. Nice layout with tables and a small bar. Doors left open on a beautiful night allowed breeze and street ambience to waft in. Plenty of couples out and large groups of single ladies making a stop, which I'm finding to be yet another great attribute of this fine city. I never tire of Charleston and I will be back to Bin 152.
Review Source:Hidden Gem!
This place is right off King and tucked among Antiques Row. Cool concept. They serve wine and charcuterie. And they sell antiques, (It's written on the back of the menu.)
They serve large portion of meats and cheeses for $7. Â The baguette is served warm and its exceptionally delicious. The owner Fanny ( who's French) was really friendly and the bartender/winophile Michael gave a run down of the most delicious restaurants to try in the Charleston area.
Friendly, great prices and wonderful ambiance. I will return soon, this place is clean, people are friendly and the people watching is very fun. Be sure to sit near the window, my friend and I observed three people going wrong way on the one way King Street.
Add another satisfied customer to the list. Â The idea is pretty straightforward --- Â go to the bar, order some wine sold by the bottle or glass (n.b. some beer, too) plus meat/cheese/bread plates. Â Pick an appropriate mix of both, sit down at a number of small tables (or bar, or large communal table), and enjoy what is tantamount to an indoor picnic. Â
Cozy, publike, chill --- absolutely. Â Friendly and very knowledgeable staff, including the owners. Â
One particular note: prices are very reasonable for the meet and cheese plates, with large portions for ~$7 apiece. Â
Had a great time with an early evening here, and looking forward to my next visit!
Bin 152 is a delightful, chill, wine, charcuterie, cheese and bread bar. One of the friendly owners, Fanny, is French and therefore is inherently qualified to recommend among their large wine selection for you. I've eaten a lot of charcuterie and cheese in my time, and Bin's is outstanding... way above average. The place is decorated with an ever-changing array of artwork and antiques, which are available for sale, and romantically lit by candlelight. There's a bar to sit at, tables along each wall, and a long social table in the middle, where it's fun to park and see what prospective new friends show up.
Oh and by the way, a super-nice and super-clean bathroom.
Lastly, see if you can find Fanny and Patrick's pug Armando whose image is embedded in Bin's logo on the front glass. Like Where's Waldo, you know?
Newly improved on Sundays (as of March 2013) they're now open seven days a week!
This is by far my favorite place to go to in Charleston!
I love the couple that owns this place they are so friendly and knowledgeable on everything.
The ambiance is fabulous here!! It is pub like with a cozy intimate feeling mixed in. It also has a very strong European feel to it. I just love it!! And what a more perfect location than King Street!
The wine and beer selection is fabulous! Â The meat and cheese selection is also extensive!
I usually order a bottle of French wine, some sort of French cheese to pair with it and speck as my meat. They also give you all the bread that you want to go with your cheese and meat tray.
I think that overall this place is fabulous! Keep up that good work!!
One of our favorite places in Charleston. Â Just past the antique shops on King Street, we walked here our first night in Charleston. Â The bar itself is wonderfully understated, and the staff is the friendliest we've experienced in a long time. Â While the beer selection is limited, all the beers offered are delicious. Â Breri had a wonderful champagne and a sparkling red. Â This is a wonderful find in Charleston, and we are so glad we went.
Review Source:This place is adorable, awesome, a must! The owner is a woman from Paris - she has great fashion sense & is very hospitable.
Everything's for sale at the store. You can buy that really long antique table for $13,000 (!) or the set of (3) 19th century school chairs for $640. ;)
A long wine list menu with many by the glass. I was poured an Old Zine Cuvee that was amazing...wish I could remember the label. The bartender is very knowledgeable - both nights I was there he made sure my friends & I had a wine that we liked before we committed to the bottle, letting us try a few varieties. He seemed to be the only bartender - the owner helped & the owner's husband made the food. Didn't get to sample the various food plates but they all looked amazing when brought out.
This is a must try in Charleston. Farther down King St so not attracting the annoying crowd - more of the established, working, mature crowd who enjoys good wine, food & company.
We walked by and it was half-empty and we were hesitant to go in for a glass. Â However, we decided to go in and give it a spin. Â Immediately upon entering we felt welcomed and comfortable because of the friendly owners/bartenders and the wonderful ambiance. Â The wine and cheese selections were thoughtful, the vibe was artful and fun, and the service was top notch. Â These folks know what they are doing.
Review Source:Wonderful. I love the unique, antique, mismatched furniture, the eclectic wine list, the french waitress, the extensive cheese and meat menu, everything. We came early, and apparently the photographer responsible for the establishment's art was hosting an event at 7 pm. We had to get out early to make our dinner reservation, but I was very impressed with his/her work. I wish we has this back home. This is what every Charlotte wine bar aspires to be.
Review Source:My wife and I went to Bin 152 on a Monday night, upon the recommendation of Hugh at Hall's Steakhouse. Great vibe, cool art on the walls and an excellent, yet reasonably priced, selection of wines. Patrick and Michael are exude goodness and are great conversationalists. Wish we could go back next week. Â We will be back next time in Charleston.
Review Source:The couple times I've been here I've really enjoyed it-- the ambience is nice and the staff seems to have a good deal of wine & cheese knowledge (at a wine bar? a novelty, i know). They have a wide variety of wines, including in terms of value.
I don't live on this side of town so I don't tend to want to make the ride out to there, especially since its not right there with all the other bars (which, don't get me wrong, is actually nice sometimes; most of the time i like to be within shorter distance between bars if I want to go to several places in one night).
Definitely worth checking out.
Bin 152 is the place if you want great wine, good service, and friendly service. It's a laid back relaxing establishment that isn't fussy or pretentious. It made me feel like I was in Europe but not so far from home. The simple but straightforward interior design was classic as were the chairs and tables. Not only do they serve wine but they have a wonderful selection of cheeses to accompany your vintage choices.
It is also an antique shop with the items listed for sale on the wine/cheese menu.
We stumbled upon this place and were delighted. We sat down at the bar and started talking with the bartender about which wines we liked. He suggested and let us try 2, which were both delish. I have a special wine 'list,' where if I like the wine enough, I take a pic of the label with my iPhone..well all the wines we were suggested that night passed my list test and got pictures.
My fav of the night was the Educated Guess cab from northern ca. Yum! You can be sure that I'll buy that one again! Â
The whole place was just splendid. We will likely be going back tonight. It was quiet and just relaxed, exactly what we envisioned out of our Charleston vacay.
We loved this place and would absolutely recommend it. The French owner was super sweet to us and came over and chatted with us. This made up for the awful glass of wine my fiancee had at Vendue. It was a good change of pace from Social, which had good drinks and food specials but was over air conditioned. Â The atmosphere and wines were just perfect!
We were recommended by Kevin the Concierge at the Holiday inn to try out this newish (3 month old ) wine bar & we are very glad we did. Bin 152 is located at the south end of King St a bit further down than most shops & Bars etc..... but it is well worth the trip down. The place is owned by  a Husband & Wife team, Fanny (The French half ) & Patrick from NJ. They are a great host couple & very knowledgable about wine &  its pairings with Cheese & Meats. Bin 152 is a classical French Bistro type place with great local Art on the walls which they plan to rotate every couple of months. We enjoyed a 2006 La Soufrandise Pouilly fuisse,A non Vintage aubry Fils Brut Champagne (which was excellent) a 2008 Buehler Russian river Chardonnay & a 2006 Salentein Malbec from Argentina. Paired together with Excellent French Bread, Cheese & Italian ham. They really have some superb selections of cheese &  Meats to go with a broad selection of wines. Especially i like that they allowed us small tastes of open wines before we chose them & Really Fanny & Patrick are excllent hosts, we felt more as though we were at someones home rather than  a wine bar. I wish them the very best success as a new business in tough times, ceratinly they had a good turn out the night we were there & the fully deserve a 5 star rating.
For me this was the single best stop on our weekend Food & Drink fest, if i lived near here i think i wuld likely be a multiple times a week regular!!
Perfect location for anyone on the peninsula! Aside from the exceptional choices for wine and cheese, the owners are about as charming as two people can be. They are knowledgeable and always ready to make suggestions for wine people or even uncultured clients like me. They have never missed with one of their recommendations. Bin 152 has a good after-work professional crowd and a separate, bolder, late night crowd.
When you walk through the doors, there is a definite feel that you are in Paris, San Francisco or New Orleans. The art on the walls is beautiful and the table and chairs are unique and artistic.
Bin 152 is a special place for you and your lover, as there is not a more romantic place around!
If you're looking for a relaxed place to have a drink, you'll love Bin 152. If you're really into wine and cheese, you'll adore it. It may not be where you'd first look (on Lower King, just above Queen St), but it's worth going a little out of your way to get out of the busyness of East Bay or Upper King--and hey, parking's easy.
I've been three times and there's no doubt that Patrick, the owner, is absolutely passionate about wine. Beyond the wine and food, Patrick and his wife Fanny are super easygoing and fun to talk with about wine or whatever else. They feature large paintings by local artists on the walls and the antique furniture gives it a nice feel.
In addition to wine, they have cheeses and dried meats--all $7 each. For your $7 you get a big portion, enough for two people to get a lot, plus plenty of fresh baguette. Everything we've eaten there was delicious; so far the Delice de Bourgogne triple cream takes the cake. The wine by the glass is from $7 to $15, with lots of options and the bottles start under $30. Like the cheese, every wine I've tried so far has been high quality and it's clear that high quality is the only thing Patrick and Fanny bring into their shop.
(One thing that's good to know: there's no waiter service, orders are taken at the bar. So don't be offended if you have to stop by the bar for your check.)
