Wow. Â First of all, I've eaten my way through most of the Guy Fieri restaurants in South Carolina during my week here. Â I hate the guy, he's a homophobe, and drives me nuts. Â It just so happens, however, that many of the restaurants he's been to happen to be some of the best eats in Charleston...or anywhere...
Tattooed Moose is a dive...and a diner...and delicious. Â We stopped in for some late night grub and had a great time. Â The duck confit sandwich is perhaps one of the best things I have ever eaten. Â Unctuous and well seasoned duck between crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside griddled bread, bacon, and a bunch of other delicious stuff. Â Just fantastic.
We also had the "Thanksgiving Leftovers" sandwich. Â Turkey, stuffing, all wrapped in bread and served with gravy on the side. Â Not as good as the duck club, but the gravy was sure fantastic and I can see why this sandwich would be a hit.
Overall, I highly recommend a stop by the Tattooed Moose, despite the fact that Guy Fieri was also there...
Been here twice on the recommendation of a friend who used to live here and this was one of our favorite places in Charleston.
We were able to try three things here:
(1) Duck Club - this is a MUST HAVE. Â I posted a picture and that describes it more than I can in words. Â It is simply amazing.
(2) Wings - during happy hour they are .50 each and they were huge! Â Not the best wings ever but I got 8 and was very full.
(3) Duck fat fries - some of the best fries I've ever eaten. Â If you haven't have potatoes fries in duck fat you are missing out on life. Â Sorry.
(4) Lucky #1 sandwich - this is the one with the pork belly and house made kimchee. Â It was solid but a but too complex for me. Â Its' good but just too many flavors for me. Â I wanted to taste the kimchee and the pork belly, but together with a bunch of other things and duck fat fries in the middle...flavor overload.
Overall. Â This is a must do if you visit Charleston. Â It's close to the airport also so give it a go.
3.5 stars. Â Know what to expect before you go and you'll enjoy it. Â Dive bar, not in a great area, great food, just OK service. Â Don't go there and count calories - it won't work. Â We started with the Hand Cut Duck Fat Fries which are truly awesome. Â All the sandwiches are great - no bad items here. Â I had the Lowcountry Cuban again, excellent. Â Nicely priced, but not huge portions either. Â Don't think I'll be a regular but would recommend it to someone who's never been.
