    Update: 8/1/12

Stopped in with the family a few nights ago since we were in the neighborhood.   There are so many taquerias on this stretch of Pulaski, that it is sometimes difficult to choose which one to patronize,  but I remembered that this place was comfy, family friendly and had decent menu.  Bingo! that is exactly what we were looking for this evening.

The place was empty, but with all the taco joints in the area, there are only so many customers to go around on a Wednesday night..  I don't mind being in a sparsely populated restaurant, my food came quick, and our server was extra attentive.

Soo..  this time around, I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner, which consisted of 4 enchiladas, rice, beans and shredded lettuce & sliced tomatoes.  The meal was a good portion and left me pretty full, even though I shared my rice and beans with my one year old son.     The enchiladas were average, the rice and beans were good.    All in all, not a bad choice for a quick dinner at a very reasonable price ($7.25).

I have to mention that my wife ordered the carne asada sopes and they were very good and a very nice size.   I did get to sneak a few bites and was already thinking about ordering them when we come back.

3 star status for Birreria De La Torre..  A good place to grab a bite of solid, reasonably priced birria and traditional Mexican fare.  Just haven't been able to find that "stand out" dish here yet...

It was alright for me, the birria tacos were good and the salsa as well, my hubby enjoyed his meal. The guacamole and the salsa where the highlight of the meal. Service was good.

So what do you do when your favorite birria place is closed and you have promised a few out of state friends birria? well, here is what I did, I remembered about this place and drove south on Pulaski to Birrieria De La Torre.

So we get there and are seated shortly. the service is super nice and attentive. We order and again the service is helpful with the menu and the different choices and options, accommodating the tastes of the 7 yr old in my group, or brewing a new pot of coffee with out Cinnamon.

We get the food, 2 in my table ordered birria with beans, and consome on the side. Quesadillas and french fries for the kid, and quesadillas with meat for the other person. I ordered carne en su jugo.
Carne en su juego was good in concept (or at least had everything to be good) meat, beans, grilled onions, but it had this funny taste to it. It tasted like the meat had been cooked in oil, which gave it an overwhelming oil taste to it.
And me being me, I had to try the birria. It was a little tough, gamey, and did not measure to other birrias in the city.

Price wise, I think it it a little overpriced, not for the service (again great service) but for the actual food (not really looking to go back)

To my friends, sorry when you come back I  promise I will take you guys to the usual (you have to understand they were closed).
