My husband and I wanted some good American food - BEEF. From the outside, Black Angus looks like a quiet steakhouse that older people go to. Nothing fancy. The interior is done up like cowboy ranch style. The high-backed seats and booths make it feel very quiet and serene as it absorbs all the noise. My husband loves Prime Rib, so of course he ordered Prime Rib with Au Gratin potatoes and green beans. The prime rib was cooked perfectly! Great tasting piece of meat! The Au Gratin potatoes were superb, just the right amount of crunch. And the green beans were tasty if you like bacon. I wasn't too hungry so I thought I'd order something small like a sandwich. I ordered the chicken, avacado and bacon sandwich... holy cow it was huge, and super tasty! The chicken breast was so moist. It was a very delicious sandwich with a good size portion, too. And the coleslaw is awesome! Just the right amount of creaminess and flavor. Yum! We will definitely be coming back here again. They have steak and lobster specials for $30, too. It's almost like an Outback Steakhouse but without all the hustle and bustle.
Review Source:I hadn't been to Black Angus for many months because we received  poor service and bad management. We tried Black Angus in El Cajon again because we haven't been there in a long time and we were craving one of their excellent steaks. We were pleasantly surprised by the difference in this restaurant. We were greeted by a new Mgr., Randy Young who could not have more helpful or agreeable. He welcomed us with a big smile and made us feel at home and valued. Randy provided us with information about the menu and came back to make sure we were enjoying our meal! I was so impressed by this new manager and the way things have changed (for the better) at this restaurant that I contacted the corporate office. I was surprised and pleased to hear from Mr. Jeff Gadberry who called to discuss our experience with Mr. Young, and he, too was very professional. In less than a week we have been to Black Angus two times. What a difference one person can make to improve a person's experience and interest in coming back. Our previous comments for Black Angus would have been a BIG ZERO and now we rate it as a BIG FIVE STARS!!
Review Source:Sometimes I really just need a chunk of meat in my day, and yesterday was one such day. The bestie and I went out for a lady date, armed with a direct-mail coupon for a dinner for 2 for $39. When we arrived both hostesses were on the phone, but smiled sweetly at us. We were seated promptly in a quiet booth, and our adorable server took stopped by nearly immediately to tell us she'd be right back to grab our drinks. We ordered garlic bread as our starter (the bestie doesn't love artichokes like I do.) It was fantastic. It took awhile to get our food, but no biggie. The server (Jessie?) was a doll & checked back in frequently. I got the filet, au gratin potatoes, and green beans. Bestie got top sirloin, baked potato and cilantro lime corn. Everything was good, but the corn and au gratin potatoes were truly the stars of the meal. I've never felt such a strong passion for a potato dish. Mmmmm. I'd kill for a vat of them. The only fail of the meal was the peach upside down cake. It was like cornbread with canned peaches in it. Not great. The salted caramel sauce on top was divine though.
I've got another coupon...I'll be back :)
This place is really good. It sits right near the interchange of the 67 and the 8 freeways. It is a steakhouse but it is far more than that. They have a newly remodeled full bar.
They have a great appetizer menu including a great sampler menu including loaded potato skins, bbq chicken tenders, fried zucchini, and shrimp. I highly recommend their burger and their prime rib sandwich. If you are looking on something on the more expensive side I would be looking for the bacon wrapped prime rib.
I highly recommend this spot over your other more expensive steakhouses. You will get quality service, quality drinks (not watered down), and quality food all for a reasonable price.
Love the Filet mignon and zucchini. The ambiance of the restaurant was kinda outdated and doesn't look fancy or anything. More like a cowboy country feeling. I like the booth we had as it was semi private and you can't see the people on either side of the booth next to you. Great server we had was great at refilling our drinks and the busboy was great and always on top of clearing our table. I give it 3 stars because the service was good but the price is kinda pricey for a small portion of food. It was kinda like going to a pricey Lone Star, TGIF, Outback, and or Applebees. I enjoyed the Zucchini appetizers more than my filet mignon wrapped with bacon. I will go back one day and see if I get a better experience next time.
Review Source:Rip OFF! Â Where should I start this review is 99% about the food and quality and 1% is for service. Â Let me start with the service that deserves 4 stars everyone that worked there was friendly and nice except the bartender in the lounge. Â She saw us sit down and no acknowledgment that she be with us in a minute or anything that she knew that we were sitting at her bar. Â Then when she took our order the scowl on her face told a whole lot about her attitude. Â Then when our named was called for our table she said in a nasty tone that we have to pay for the drinks at the bar and don't ask her to put it on our bill. Â So I walked off to our table and left hubby to deal with her.
Let's get to the food and ambiance of this place. How dare you charge me $30 for a lobster tail that is soft soggy and taste like fish. Â As a big fan of lobster I have to say I was so disappointed that you served me that old frozen POS. So hubby order the 12oz Prime Rib steak and that was a joke it wall all 85% fat and 15% meat plus it was so thin it look like roast beef that you put on a sandwich. Â The salads were small and inadequate and the sides were small and dried out. Â
I am not sure where they get off on charging Bully's prices when the quality of the food is sub par plus our booth was falling apart.  Valentine's dinner was horrible and I WILL never return to a BLACK ANGUS ever again.  Next year our Valentine's dinner will be  at Bully's or Brigantine.
Maybe Black Angus should go visit Outback and see it is really done!
I give this Black Angus Steakhouse in . They got 5 stars because of the amazing food but got short 3 stars because of the bad service. I'm big on great customer service and I was disappointed in the lack of it . Our waiter would constantly talk to other co workers about random things in front of us, and would forget when we asked for refills because he was to busy flirting with the girl at the bar. Grow up boy this isn't "Time to get dirty time." it's "Do your job time!"
Review Source:My visit for lunch here started out very nice and good, but then it got very disappointing to say the least.
I sat in the lounge and was served by a wonderful young lady from Florida. I ordered the wedge salad to start that came with their signature molasses bread and butter, and for my lunch, I had one of their Agnes Burgers with blue cheese and mushrooms.
The salad was great! The blue cheese creamy and the bacon pieces were crunchy and tasty. The salad also had chunks of blue cheese. (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fGZ7JPz1Mqng4QY1D0s6uQ?select=mHIqJdPYx-lzGbX_7_SBFA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) The bread was also terrific and it went perfect with the salad.
The big disappointment came with the burger. I made it very clear that I wanted it medium rare. That is between MEDIUM and RARE, NOT well done. (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fGZ7JPz1Mqng4QY1D0s6uQ?select=WvBa430gtOMvX6aI37JWKQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) I explained to the waitress that I was disappointed that the burger did not come out as I asked. I asked her to please let the person who prepared it know. She told me that she was going to do just that, and I believe that she did. Now, please understand, I was not looking for a freebie or a return certificate for a future meal. At the the least, I expected a visit from the Manager "Tim" who was listed on my receipt or at the most, an offer to re-fire my meal. I got nothing except an apology from the waitress who had nothing to do with the preparation or supervision of the food. I certainly do not blame her because she did her job with a smile.
To make things even worse, the fries came cold and the onions rings that came with the meal were oily. Wait, that does not even top it because when I was leaving, very perturbed of course, I was asked how my meal was by one of the hostesses and I explained to her my disappointment with the food preparation. All I got from her was an "oh well" type attitude. Do people even care anymore? I'm giving them a 2 star rating, and not a 1 star because my waitress Randi was awesome and the wedge salad and bread were great. Cold fries, over done burgers, and poor management don't go well with me.....YELP!
Food is good but strongly recommend going with a coupon, which are always in the sunday paper. Depending on where you sit, some spots are more intimate than others. The bar has TVs and open tables, while the booth seating is a little more romantic. Recommend making reservations for holidays and special occasion dates.
Review Source:First off I had an 8:15 reservation, we arrived about 15 minutes early, they finally sat us at 8:40. Â Which I don't see what the point of a reservation if there isn't a table available for another 30 minutes. Â The waitress seemed rude did not check on our table often we had to keep reminding her of refills and what not. Â Our order was taken probably 20 minutes after we sat down, it took another 30 minutes to get our salads, probably another 40 to 45 minutes after that to get our meal, and probably another 15 minutes after that to get the desserts that comes with the kids meal which we had to remind the waitress about too. Â So after scheduling an 8:15 reservation we didn't end up getting out of the restaurant until around 10:30 ridiculous!!! One of the worst restaurant experiences ever. Â Also there was hair found next to the mash potatoes...
Review Source:Not horrible but not great either. My filet was cooked perfectly and cesar salad was great. I think they forgot to season everything though the potatoes and steak had no flavor. To bad to cuz it was cooked nicely. Service sucked but thats because only one server, order taker, busser, bar tender for the whole very large bar section.
Review Source:This is the second time we've been here and yes, it isn't worth the money. Table was greasy, & the booth was dirty. My husband ordered the filet mignonCheyenne Trail of TearsCheyenne Trail of Tears sandwich: tasteless, more bread than anything, cheese wasn't melted. The margarita was too sweet and couldn't tastes any tequila. Server was slow and didn't check back, bus boys are the only workers in there. What hurt the most was the bill. This time, the third time will not be the charm because we won't be back. Next time it's Sushi instead!
Review Source:I have been a cusotmer here for 25 years and have to say David N back in Aug of last year is so full of it They dont have a lady Mananger at night then so highly doubt if you got 170.00 worth of food for free I really hate seeing the liars on Yelp
My most recent visit was at Lunch which is my usual time but have had Natalie several times at night food is always great and cooked to perfection for both my wife and I.  Lunch we always ask for Roxi and if you eat there you should also  SHe has been here for 20 years, always fast, order is always right if not she takes it back right away and brings the Manager with her you dont have to ask for one, and it has never happened with me. She will have my bread and drink right away,. I always get 2 bowls of the terrific steak soup, and the a top sirloin using my VIP card saving 4.99 every visit at lunch
Tim the GM is great always comes to say hello and walks the restaurant to make sure customers are happy and why I have a problem with posters like Dave N. there is always a Manager on duty walking around, you dont have to find one
As always I will be back and will ask for Roxi if your there between 1130am and 3PM mon thru Fri I highly suggest the same if she doesnt have a table open Sean or Sandra are great also
we like to dine here every few months or so, and we are always pleased. the reason for our last visit was to celebrate our nephew's 8th birthday and he specifically asked to go to black angus b/c he wanted prime rib. everything was cooked perfectly and we had a great dining experience for his birthday! Â he even got 2 desserts! i think you get the best value for your money w/ the coupons you get in the mail...campfire feast for 2, for $39. you get an appetizer (and you can even choose the BIG sampler...bonus!), 2 entrees and a dessert.
Review Source:Had a coupon this evening for a campfire feast for $39.00 dollars. Â You get a choice of appetizer, main entree and a dessert to share. Â I've had the campfire feast before about 15 years ago and I remembered it being delicious. Â
My significant other and I walked into a crowded Black Angus on a Saturday night. Â It was packed with standing room only. Â It looked like feeding time at the old corral lol. Â They told us a ten minute wait and surprisingly it was only 6 minutes. Â
Our waitress's name was Natalie and she looked like a clone of Rachael Ray. Â Especially when she smiled. It was amazing ha ha. Â She was very attentive and would come by every ten minutes to ask if everything tasted good and if we needed anything. Â
Natalie suggested to my significant other the Blackstone Merlot and he thought it was an excellent choice. Â A very smooth Merlot. Â It was so good that we ended up buying a bottle at Target later on in the evening lol. Â The bottle was $9.49 at Target, the bottle in the restaurant however was $30.00, ouch! Â
We started out with a garden salad and I got the honey mustard which was really good. Â A decent portion of salad and no complaints. Â My significant other got the zesty vinaigrette dressing and he enjoyed it.
We ordered the sampler platter of appetizers. Â You get boneless buffalo chicken strips in a spicy sauce/celery and dipping sauce, 3 jumbo shrimp in cocktail sauce, fried zucchinis (quite a bit of them) and two big cheesy potato skins. Â Everything was delicious. Â
Our main entree was prime rib and it was cooked to perfection and tasted so good. Â My significant other got a baked potato with sour cream and chives and I got the sweet potato fries with their maple/cinnamon butter for dipping. Â YUMMO, as Racheal Ray would say! Â I was afraid the maple butter would be too sweet but it wasn't, just a hint of sweetness.
We were stuffed and got our dessert to go. Â We ordered the Big Mountain Chocolate Fudge Cake with chocolate syrup and vanilla bean ice cream (if it's to go you need to request the ice cream, they usually skip it). Â This dessert is very decadent as I've had it before many times. Â
No complaints this evening. Â As we were walking out the bus boy said, "See you next round." Â Yes, we will be coming back!
Still 3 stars.  We went here for dinner last night because we had a gift card.  Black Angus is freaking expensive for what you get!  I ordered a  cheesesteak and my wife got their steak salad.
We got our drinks and bread first. Their Pepsi tastes like crap. Â It tasted like a cross between Pepsi, root beer and diet Pepsi.....it was nasty. Â The bread on the other hand was awesome. Â Nice and warm, sweet and tasty. Â They have soft whipped butter too.....always my favorite type of butter.
We started with an order of fried zucchini which was amazing. Â Probably the best zucchini I have ever had. Â This thing was the saving grace of the meal. Ive been to BA many times in my life, and the zucchini has always been great. They give you like 10-12 or so thinly sliced zucchini rounds and its served with a cucumber/ranch sauce. Â The breading, taste and texture was perfect. Â The cheesesteak was super meh...it tasted like a roast beef sandwich kind of...it wasn't good at all and it was the cheapest thing on the menu too $11.99. Â My wife on the other hand LOVED her salad. Â She said it was one of the best things shes ever had and was still thinking about it today. Â It came with lots of lettuce, slices of steak, big strips of bacon and some blue cheese crumbles. Â I had some of it and it was pretty damn tasty. Â Even after our gift card, the bill was still $16 and then a $7 tip so $23 out of pocket...would have been almost $50 without. Â Total rip off if you ask me. Â Service was alright this time and wasn't as slow as past times...still a tad slow but not bothersome. Â I'm sure we will return at some point because of that salad my wife will crave, but unless we have a gift card, I cant justify a $50 meal that isn't even good.
Warning, partial review only!!!!
I'm sure you have seen some of the Ad's and marketing Black Angus (from here on referred to as BA) has done to push their new sports bar, with the bull with purple sunglasses. They advertise great food and drink specials, Multiple flat screen TVs, and free Wi-FI.
I had a quick meeting in the bar, unfortunately I wasn't there long enough to try their food or drinks :( so my review is strictly aesthetics for now.
The bar had been completely remodeled while leaving hints of that western BA charm some of us grew up with. BA is no longer just a place for a cheap date or where you take grandma on her birthday, The Bulls Eye bar had a great relaxed sports atmosphere, with plenty of TVs, music, and a sound level where you could still talk to the people at your table. There was plenty of seating for small to large party's, booths, tables, and a long bar. The bartender was very attentive even though I hadn't ordered anything.
The happy hour and bar menu both looked amazing and prices were reasonable. Â What other sports bar can you get prime rib bites, grilled artichokes, fillet Mignon sliders, bacon wrapped hot dogs, and all the other favorites? Â This may be the new east county hot spot! Â
Review will be updated soon with details on the food and drinks!
Always been one of my favorites. Â I havce gone many times for lunch and dinner, and the food and service are consistently good. Â It's no Roy's in the food department, but it's casual, speedy at lunch time, and QUIET. Â I can't stand noisy steakhouses. Â Good steak, sandwiches, drinks, you name it. Â I've never had a bad meal.
Review Source:I know there's a general hate for chains, but personally I've never been to a steakhouse that was so much better than Black Angus, and this location is no exception. Our service was fast and super friendly. Though she forgot my baked potato, when I mentioned it, it was not 15 seconds before it was resting comfortably on our table.
The prime rib was cooked perfectly, tenderly rare and the horseradish sauce was actually spicy. Â The broccoli was a little overcooked, but it's pretty hard to get it cooked properly in a restaurant setting. Green beans were excellent, crisp-tender, with a bunch of bacon. Nice baked potato, and I swear that the sweet potato fries dipped in cinnamon maple butter tasted just like those cinnamon-sugar donuts.
Just a brief note, I am pretty sure this is not really a great place for vegan-types. I know that seems obvious, as this is a steakhouse, but I know there are better and worse ones for veggies. In this case, almost all their side dishes are pretty much chock full of butter, cream, or bacon. Â The broccoli had parmesan cheese melted over it, e.g. So, just a word to the wise, if you find yourself needing to come here, know there's not a ton of options for you.
Although this is not the typical restaurant I would choose for a meal out, my father requested this destination for our family Christmas Eve dinner this year. I am giving this location of Black Angus 5 stars primarily because our service by Roxi was the best service I have experienced at any restaurant. She was seriously the most attentive, kind, friendly, accommodating waitress I have ever met. She perceived our needs before we even expressed them and kindly assisted us with the best selections for the coupons we brought with us. If a family friendly steakhouse is what you crave, stop by this El Cajon location and ask to be seated in Roxi's section. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Review Source:I had dinner with a party of five to celebrate Mother's Day with my Mom this year and that was the first time in my life I had to speak to a manager at a restaurant. It took forever to receive our food and I understand it was fairly busy that night.
My mom asked for a well done sirloin steak and it came rare. So they took it back and it took a while to return the steak to her. When they did, it was still rare and charcoal black on the outside! I kid you not! I asked for the rib eye and that was the first time in my life I did not finish a steak, due to it being absolutely disgusting. The mashed potatoes were cold and with out flavor. The only thing I enjoyed was my caesar side salad and my Corona. My sister-in-law barely touched her dinner because she said her steak was rubbery. Her sister thought it was alright, although she said her mashed potatoes were hard. My nephew had pizza and he didn't seem to complain.
After I left the booth to go puke my guys out in the little boys room, just kidding, my sister-in-law had beat me to speaking with the manager. She told me that they dropped the price to half off the bill. I was like "oh hell no!" and I politely asked the waitress to speak with the manager. I believe I spent a good 15 minutes talking to her about this was the worst food I've had in my entire life. However, the service was great! The waitress was very nice! Anyway, she told me that she going to comp our entire bill, which was $170. I did give the waitress a $35 tip and wrote her a note that her service was great!. I would have rather enjoyed a good meal that I payed for as opposed to a free meal that was horrible. It was still a decent experience because I was there with family. I don't think I'll ever return to a Black Angus every again. I suggest you do the same...
It's Black Angus, what do you expect? Back in the day BA was the place to be seen. It was considered date night worthy. These days not so much. Often times you can find a 2 dinner coupon for $40 that makes it worth stopping in. You get two entrees (pick between steaks, chicken or fish), an appetizer, and a dessert for that price. Not bad. Quality of the food varies every time you go. The inconsistency keeps me from giving this 3 stars.
All in all, go if you have a coupon, skip it if you don't! You aren't really missing anything.
I had almost sworn off this chain entirely. Then, I got a coupon in the mail - and in these downtrodden times, well, you know when you don't feel like doing any dishes... Anyway, I thought I'd give 'em another chance.
So glad I did! We got a great deal for a $37 four-course meal for two: An appetizer plate of choice (which even included the big sampler platter), soup or salad (love their ranch dressing and my fren had the loaded baked potato soup which was super-tasty), choice of entree, and a shared dessert (awesome mud pie). Normally this deal is $50 w/o coupon - I'm still in awe. The food was good. Really good. My prime rib was surprisingly tender, and flavorful with a cup of au jus on the side. The service was excellent, and, really, I should have stopped eating after the second course but I couldn't  help myself.
This restaurant has restored my faith in the quality, service, and bang-for-your-buck-edness of Black Angus.
I like this place...
The atmosphere and vibe is AWESOME!
Its nice and dark, they have that mood lighting steez goin on... The booths are spacious and comfy...
All the food ive had at this Black Angus has been top notch... I dont think I have any complaints really... Well one time YEARS AGO, I got kinda sick'ish after eating there... But not since... and were talking YEARS ago.
The atmosphere and food are great.. you should eat here.
Although there are some good things about this place, overall it has really gone downhill.
Anytime I go to a steakhouse, I always order the Filet Mignon. Although flavorful, this filet was SOOOOOOO small!!! It was slightly bigger than a scallop. No joke! I realize that Filet Mignon is one of the smallest cuts of meat, but this was ridiculous! Definitely not worth the $20 price.
However, the hamburgers are pretty good! I would definitely recommend those. And their drinks are delicious, too!
Definitely order the Mud Pie for dessert!
I was expecting this visit to be as good as the last time but no such luck. Â H. asked if I wanted to go to one of my "Yelp places" for lunch yesterday. Â I'm always game. Â I was thinking one of the $5 lunches at Thornton's Irish Pub but by the time he went to the bank and back it was nearly 3 when their lunches end. Â So I suggested Black Angus' $6.99 lunch special which was till 4pm. Â We drove over there, were greeted by the same nice hostess, seated in the further back area which was huge and pretty, got menus, gave drink orders, waited for her to come back to take our orders. Â
I got the Hawaiian drink (non-alcoholic) and it was really good! Â We ordered the Fillet Mignon since we had tried the prime rib last time. Â Took awhile for the food to come. Â I looked at mine and asked my husband if he was sure he had the right one since mine looked awfully dark for med rare (he orders his well usually). Â He said he thought he did, so I put A-1 sauce on mine and had a couple of french fries (ordinary, nothing special). Â THEN my husband says, "Uh, I think they got them mixed up. Â This one is pretty rare." Â NOW he tells me, after I've eaten some of my plate and he's eaten half his fries. Â Dang.
This has happened before. Â Should we have to check to be sure we got the right one? Â Isn't that their job? Â So we switch. Â The pieces of meat weren't nearly as big as they had been on the prime rib--pretty small in fact. Â The flavor was fine. Â The mushrooms were delicious. The sandwich rolls were pretty saturated with butter and blue cheese--fine for me but too oily for H, I'm sure. Â
He asked for "more napkins" and she returned with ONE and set it next to me.  I looked down and it had a smudge on it.  I opened it up and there was a bigger smudge-from someone's mouth being wiped on it!  Ugh.  I was just going to save it and show it to the manager on the way out but H fouled me up by bringing it up to the waitress.  She said, "Oh, it must have had an ice tea set on it!  Um, no, there was no ring, no water, just the smear of food showing she was too lazy to bring us a small stack of clean napkins to set on the table like every other restaurant does when we ask for extras. She also mentioned  2-3 times how she had taken $10 off the total like it was a special favor from her instead of just being the price the food was with the coupon we had.  I finished up and brought a bit home because I was sort of losing my appetite.
We will go back but I will try to get Crystal again if she's still working there. Â Or anyone but that server.
