Good , but very average for the price. Â The meat wasn't very tender. Â Waitress was nice but it wasn't sincere or relaxed. Â No one said thank you or good night as we walked out, eventhough the manager was right there. Â Expensive. Â I researched the firm and it has been bought in 2013 by a company in Philadelphia which buys distressed companies. Â Black Angus restaurants have been steadily closing all across the west since 2003. Â Stuart Anderson sold it in the 1970's. Â He was a rich kid jerk anyway. Â
Yeah it shows in the lack of enthusiasm and lack of customers. Â There are much better restaurants for the money. Â This place will be closed very soon, I guarantee.
Although I do my best to avoid most chain restaurants, this specific location of Black Angus offers consistently great service and consistently good-to-great quality food!
The great service begins the moment you walk in and continues through the time you walk out. Â When you do not want to get dressed up to go out and enjoy a great steak or prime rib, this is a great choice!
If I would have done this review before this weekend, I would have given up to 4 stars..
My friends and I have met at the bar a few times during the NBA and hockey playoffs after work for drinks and dinner and have had good service - even to the extent that one very sweet young gal would remember our orders before we asked.
We would always have a large tab, have a good time, and tip well.
Last evening, we decided to watch the Hockey game and meet a friend after he got off work and have some dinner as soon as he arrived.
The server/bartender, Carrie C, was busy yet very friendly to some obvious regulars at the bar and a table of two close to us. Carrie took our order and asked us about food - we explained that we were waiting for our friend and that we wanted to have food as soon as he arrived.
At one point during the bartender's interactions with these regulars - she mentioned that she was "sorry that she couldn't comp anything for them" - it was kind of funny at the time, we thought, as they were a bit elderly and maybe her family, she kept calling them "honey..."
Halfway into our drinks, our friend arrived. Carrie was running around a little, but the bar was not busy. She walked by our table and looked straight at him - in the face - and did not nod, did not say anything and did not stop. I opened my mouth and was was unable to say anything but "what the hell did she just do?"
We had told he no less than 3 times that we were waiting for our friend and he would want a drink and food - I mean she asked US!
Instead, she went to the bar, poured to regulars a drink, chatted them up, then came out to the other regulars' table and hugged them goodbye with great drama and then walked by our table again - no acknowledgment!
Back to the bar regulars and hugging and Honey-ing again... I just said very loudly - we are going somewhere else. I walked up to her, told her I need to cash out and turned to my friend and said - We are going somewhere where someone will serve us drinks and get you something to eat.
We left and got great service at Northridge Red Robin
Our friend is black. He feels like he was being singled out. I am not accusing this woman of being racist, but it sure felt like it on the surface to someone who is sensitive. Â Black Angus need to be careful to give the same level of service to every customer, old, young, black and white.
Who thought that being in a 40-something mixed-race group in LA would make it hard to get a meal???
I was so disappointed with this place. Â I ordered the 6 oz center cut filet mignon with the green beans & bacon as a side. Â Every bit of my food was a complete disappointment. Â I ate about 40% of it and took the rest home. Â Made the leftovers into an omelette and that was barely tolerable.
Years ago, at the Burbank location I used to have the soup or salad and cheesy bread lunch. Â That was great. Â
I will never go back for steaks again. Â Who knows if I will even attempt the cheesy bread lunch again.

I made reservation for his location online. When we arrived, we were advised that the wait was about 10 minutes with reservations. We were sat down within 3 minutes. Fast service, great food, great customer service, great offers and felt appreciated and at home. Â Even the manager on premises was very friendly. Â Greeted us, made sure everything was good and greeted us with a bye when we left. Thank you. Â I recommend to everyone to enjoy a nice dinner here!
Felt like a rip-off
Our server offered us mushrooms or onions over our meat. We both took the mushrooms. My dining partner didn't even like or eat them, she said they weren't cooked correctly. When the bill came, they charged us an extra $2.19 each for the mushrooms. You would think they could have mentioned there was a charge. It was offered the same way they offer fresh pepper!
I would have given more starts, but I didn't like the feeling I got. Felt like I was tricked into paying more.
The food tasted good. The waiter was nice except for the mushroom trick. We had reservations and waited less than 5 minutes.
I don't think I would go back to this restaurant.
Took the family to an unusual special dinner last weekend. The food was great, the service friendly and prompt, and the surroundings comfortable. A side-dish was served with bacon, when we specifically advised them about an allergy to it, so the server might not be aware of the contents of their products. There is free wi-fi in the bar section, which keeps our toddler amused, but it doesn't reach the southern half of the restaurant, so we had to move. A repeater would fix that. We never got a baked potato we ordered, probably because we were there a little early to beat the rush, maybe they should start an hour earlier. Maybe someone was just late to work. Price was about $35 a head. Overall we were very happy, and will return again in future.
Review Source:Four hostesses and yet the seating was a chaotic mess, they passed over our name. Â 50 minutes to get our dinner, and they said the delay was because of a medium well steak. Seriously? I've worked the grill, and the difference from medium to
medium well is at most three minutes. The food was at least plentiful and acceptable quality for a chain.
So I'm not sure if it's just this particular location but seems like they attract more of an older crowd. Felt kind of awkward coming in here with my bf for happy hour when everyone was 40+. Haha. And the bar area is a little weird. I can't put my finger on why, it just is. It doesn't feel like a real bar area, it's kinda funky, I can't explain it. Haha. Their happy hour is pretty cool; And the food we got was actually very enjoyable. I think we got the platter with a side of the garlic-cheese bread.
To put it simply, we enjoyed the food & drinks, just wish the crowd was younger and the bar area was refurbished to feel more like a bar.
So we went here for my mother's birthday, we made reservations and waited only a few minutes (less than 5) to get our table. Mind you it was a Saturday night and we were a group of 8. I had a milk chocolate martini which was deliciously made. I did the Camp Fire Feast with another person in my group and we ordered the home style chicken tenders (appetizers come out fast). They were well made, not too oily or too fried. I had the King Salmon which was the best salmon I have ever had at a restaurant. They give you two side orders so I had steamed broccoli (which came with some cheese) and I also had a salad with ranch which also came out yum. The food was delicious, the martini was delicious, the atmosphere is really nice and relaxing.
The only problem I have is that it's a bit pricey, but hey it's a steakhouse so what do you expect? My other problem, the big sampler platter (appetizer) wasn't very big, it was a small size and we were a bit disappointed with it. Also the filet mignon is quite small if you get the smaller of the two, so I'd say pay the extra buck or two for the bigger size.
Some food is gluten free so that's a plus and the dessert was delicious. At the table we had the apple tart (or something like that, I forgot the name), the mountain high fudge cake, and my mother for her birthday got a free chocolate chip cowboy cookie (which was the yummiest mm).
Service was good, the woman was nice and catered to our every need quickly and efficiently.
I didn't give this place 5 stars simply because it's too pricey and I won't go unless I have a coupon. I didn't give it a 3 because the food was too good, so the 4 star "yay i'm a fan" fits perfectly.
I recommend if you have money to spend ($15+). Don't forget the tip.
Nik took me to lunch here today, its been 1 yr since we were last here, and I just have to say its still 5 stars.
Food was great, service was great, and price was reasonable.
I had the lunch special combo, 1/2 chicken, bacon, and avocado sandwhich with choice of two sides., I had the cesar salad, which was HUGE! and fries.
So much food for $9.99.
Going back to work after all that was a bit difficult though.
I really just want to take me and my Black angus food baby for a Nappytime snooze.
This is one of those places you've known about for a long time, but you've never been too. It is a chain after all and for the most part, chains get a bad rap. However, Black Angus is one of those chains that always make it to the top of Consumer Reports' ratings of chain restaurants along with Bob Evans and the like. So it's about time to see if this steak house chain is worth it or it's just a steak-y version of Olive Garden!
First off, unless you're coming here on a date (although I'd never think of taking a date here), you might as well bring a coupon. They do a ton of couponing here. There's even a Yelp check-in deal to boot! So if you're paying full price, shame on you.
Had the $7.95 lunch deal and they do give you a ton of food. Bread is a round wheat or multi grain bread served warm and pretty good loaf. You get a ton of sides to choose from. I think there's 20. I originally ordered a lettuce wedge and it wasn't a full wedge like you might get at most steak joints. But worse, the lettuce was brown! Not just one leaf but a number of them! Who didn't bother to look at this? Got to take stars away.
Service was also kind of on the slow side. Not atrocious, but slow. Especially considering I was in around 2PM and it wasn't a very busy dining room.
Beyond the lettuce, the food itself was pretty good. My steak was served perfectly. Ordered it Medium Well and that's how it came. Not too charred and plenty of juicy meat inside. The Garlic Mashed Potatoes had a little bit on lumpiness to them. Didn't really taste any garlic in them. Had the Onion Rings. You only get four and they seemed to have been sitting a little bit. Good breading on them. Kind of like what I'd find at some delis.
Overall, a decent steak house and certainly affordable. The service and that brown lettuce needs to be corrected, but definitely a step above the Olive Garden type of chain or even Outback.
The food here is okay, seems to always be busy on weekends but that is expected. The prices are alright, I really like the atmosphere of the place too. It's very relaxing.
The bread they start you off with is AMAZING! I look forward to it every time. The steak soup was a little salty, but still nice and warm. The steak dinner I ordered, however, took forever to get to our table. So long. I am not impatient with food but this was honestly such a long wait, but once the food got there it was alright. Potato was a bit under cooked and the shrimps were a bit too burnt, but it was not terrible. The steak was okay too... Very juicy and easy to cut. I still am a fan of black angus.
I had the worst Meal here, I usually eat at Outback or Longhorn for my steak dinners. Â I was starving in Northridge CA. Â so i decided to give Black Angus a whirl. Â I ordered the meal for two which included an appetizer , two entrees, and a dessert. Â Everything in that meal was horrible, bland, and the appetizer items were greasy. Â I will admit my steak was good. but My bill came to $80 and I didnt feel 80 dollars was worth a good steak. Â I was livid that I had to pay that much for a bad meal. Â the manager took off a bit and I left with 3 containers full of wasted food. Â I will never eat here again. Â You couldnt pay me to!
Review Source:Came here with the family for my sister's 21st dinner celebration. When we got there, the hostess claimed we did not have a reservation while staring and stating my name in the reservation booking system. That was a bit weird. I was a little afraid that the service would have the same spaced out type of feel to it.
The food was OK. My family all got the campfire 2 for $39 special which comes with an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert to share. I got the cheese bacon burger without the cheese and fries and the mango mojito. It was alright. This is pretty much standard fare to a chain restaurant. You are guaranteed that your food will taste the same here as it will at Blank Angus in Idaho...well I don't really know if they are in Idaho.
I must say our waitress was great, even though the service got slow towards the end of our meal. But that could be because they were short staffed.
I honestly love black angus.
I always have and always will.
I haven't been able to go to a Black Angus here in California
but I sure am glad I went
I get coupons in the mail for food and things and decided to
cut out a campfire for 2 $39 coupon.
I mean at first... it was kind of... ehh because I don't know if I want
to spend that much for food.
Not that I ended up paying :/
But it was great- TONS OF FOOD!
I mean I thought I was hungry enough to eat a cow!
I always order some kind of lemonade so I got the strawberry
raspberry lemonade to drink.
As for the coupon deal, we get to choose a appetizer,
two entrees with two sides each, and a dessert!
We ordered the sampler appetizer which included:
Some kind of chicken, fried zucchini, baked potato,
shrimp cocktail.
I don't recall if there were any I am missing ! I really
liked the baked potato, the chicken thing, and the shrimp
was interesting.
The zucchini wasn't fitting my taste buds.
I was already getting full by the time our entrees were almost
out!
OMGSH! I forgot to mention! THE BREAD :) -sings hallelujah-
I have never loved bread more than I have here at Black Angus.
Why is there bread so good? Even their butter you dip in is tasty!
I was really excited when our kind waitress packed on togo for us:)
(BRB going to go eat my leftover bread now)
I asked our waitress which steak (I don't eat much steak) had the least fat.
She recommended the top sirloin so I ordered that with GARLIC
mashed potatoes and coleslaw :)
It was DELISH! :)
i keep having to put smiley faces everywhere in this review!
:)
The other entree was Prime Rib with GARLIC mashed potatoes
and coleslaw too :)
Mine had one line of fat... which was in every bite unfortunately but
it didn't bother me too much!
The Prime Rib was gushing with fat... ew.....
Overall :)
Great first Black Angus experience in Calfornia!
If it wasn't for the coupon, in my years of going to Black Angus
I eat the baby back ribs! My ultimate favorite with the bread
of course:)
See you soon, Black Angus!
Our waitress seemed to be annoyed by us. Maybe she hates her job but that really is not my fault. Their campfire feast for $39 is a great deal. I ordered the chicken this time and I thought it was really juicy. I ordered my side salad to go and she forgot to bring it out to us when she brought the check. I did not remember until we were home. I really did not like her.
One thing I noticed was that the manager was regulating everyone. He came to check up on us several times which was very appreciate considering our waitress decided we did not need utensils. Our food was sitting there for a while before my brother flagged her down...
The chicken was good though!
Take a coupon. Besides the long wait, crowded booth and way too many TV's going, this place blows. I ordered a 12 oz. Rib Eye and it came out looking like a thin slice of Chuck Steak. It tasted alright but considering the tab for the night was $60.00 i was really dissappointed.
I suppose I should have known better than try a chain restaurant in the Valley.
Maybe it was the Campfre deal we ordere that was the let down. Other tables seemded to have decent plates.
The GF had salmon that was actually pretty tasty.
Not my stye of restaurant.
I don't really go to steakhouses simply because I personally feel that American style steakhouses are pretty boring because they tend to not season their meat and it's a lot of meat on your plate with a little bit of nothing else... Â However, Nina R was craving for a steak so we decided to try Black Angus out... it's been over 7 or so years since we've been here so let's see how this one stacked up again my first impression of this meat chain...
My thought... surprisingly wonderful!
Here's what went down during our recent visit...
We got the campfire feast for 2 (make sure you find yourself a coupon! it will save you a good $20.00! off regular MSRP.... here is a site that offers this coupon! http://www.facebook.com/…)
so what did we get?
Appetizer: (sampler) Â Don't get this sampler! Â Yes.. I went for the most expensive but I truly didn't like it too much... the loaded potatos were good, the fried zucchini were good, but the other items such as the buffalo tenders and shrimp cocktail really wasn't all that at all... Â My recommendation? Â Get the fried zucchini or the mushrooms....
Main course: Â I got the Prime Rib with salad and onion rings while Nina R. ordered the ribeye with mash and onion rings... Â The rings weren't so good... mash potatoes were ok, salad was surprisingly good and huge portion too as it comes on a side plate on it's own! Â The prime rib was tender and moist but the ribeye totally stood out! Â This piece of ribeye was perfectly cooked with slight char over the top seasoned with just right amount of salt and pepper.... extremely delicious! Â So my recommendation gots to be the ribeye with probably 2 side salads! Â That'd be a feast for you already!
Dessert: Â Got the Cheesecake without the strawberry topping (tends to be too sweet) Â However, even without the fruit toppings the cheesecake was still too sweet for my taste so I wasn't overly excited about it.
So after you have read the review you're probably wondering... this place doesn't deserve 4 stars... it didn't sound like it was an extraordinary experience or anything...so why? Â
Service! Â Our server was extremely attentive yet not annoying by coming around at a perfect duration of timing in between meals... Â Smiles, topped drinks, boxes, it was just a very nice service overall which is always an extra star in my books...
So would I come here again? Â Yes! Â I'm gonna use the coupon I found online and get myself the ribeye on my next trip! Â I do hope you get yourself a delicious cut of that tender melt-in-you-mouth meat as well!
Black Angus was just okay. Definitely not my favorite. The portions are actually healthy portions. Not too big and not too small, but the price does not make it seem worth it. I do not like all these booth style seating arrangements. I think its really uncomfortable.
They serve complimentary bread and it was pretty good. I liked it. I got the Cobb Salad for my dinner and it was decent. Nothing too special. Definitely not worth $11.
I probably won't be going back here. Not my style.
Plenty of parking.
Service was just okay. The waiter took a bit to take our order. We had to flag down a person get our waiter.
I generally don't review chain restaurants but that's mainly because I don't usually eat at chain restaurants. Â Our boss treated about a dozen of us to lunch at the Black Angus just a block from our office this past Wednesday. Â The ordering was a little weird (server pointing at the menu saying "you can order this but you can't order that") but I found something available that sounded good; Filet mignon salad. Â It WAS good. The steak was tender and moist, the rest of the salad was pretty good, too, although aside from the meat it was mostly lettuce and diced tomato. The viniagrette dressing was good, too, but not enough of it.
We had a nice lunch. Thanks boss! Would I go back? Â Yeah probably but not likely my first choice for a good lunch nearby.
My friend actually likes chains and doesn't like to try new things, but when he is picking up the tab; he gets to choose the place. Â He is cheap too, which in this case happens to be a good thing, as he always has the 2/15.00 Lunch entree coupon for the Black Angus.
The concept is simple, there are 7 meals in the 10-12 dollar range, and you can get 2 of them for $7.50 each. Â the requirement you also purchase 2 beverages is never a problem. As long as you get decent food, it's one heck of a good deal.
I had the salmon steak which is nice piece of (probably frozen) fish but still tasty grilled salmon. Â It comes with 2 "sidekicks" which is how I guess 'ole Stewart used to refer to side orders. Â I chose a Caesar salad, which served on it's chilled metal plate was pretty basic, and pretty good; and a loaded baked potato with chives, cheese, sour cream and bacon crumbles.
My friend has a rib-eye, salad and an au gratin potato and was quite happy as well.
While the hostess seemed unhappy to have to seat people; the waitress was friendly and did a pretty good job with the refills.
The whole tab came to 21 something including tax, but before tip; so probably about 28-29 bucks total. Â If you have friends who are non-adventurous carnivores, this is a good safe place to take them. Â especially with a coupon.
Is it too much to ask a STEAK restaurant to serve up a decent piece of meat?
With Angus, or as I would like to call--Anguish (because that's how I felt as I attempted to finish my steak)--I guess it is. Sigh. The only reason why this place isn't getting 1 star is that the appetizer, sides, and dessert were all good. But, I didn't come for "sidekicks" or samplers. I came for the steak and therein I was completely disappointed.
We ordered the Campfire Feast for Two (had a coupon which brought the cost down from $52 to $38). Not a bad deal considering we each got to have our own steak with 2 sides as well as share an app and a dessert.
We got the "WHEELHOUSE SAMPLER" (buffalo chicken strips, fried zucchini, 3 piece of prawn (cocktail), loaded potato skin). FRIED ZUCCHINI was done very nicely--easily the tastiest item on the sampler (and perhaps the whole night).
I got the "RIBEYE STEAK" with sides of "WILD RICE" and "ONION RINGS". Asked for medium rare, got something more like medium, steak was not tender on top of being flavorless. I'm a big advocate of not putting steak sauce on steak...I want to taste the meat...not A-1 sauce. However, I must say the "WILD RICE", though not amazing, was pretty good.
The "COWBOY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE" which had a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top was a poor man's pizookie, but it was good.
Definitely going to try resisting coming back...not matter what kind of deal gets delivered to my door...no more Black Anguish.
It's all about what your expectations are when you walk into a restaurant. I've been to a premium steak house, namely Ruth's Chris, as well as perfecting my own steak cooking technique on the grill so I am very critical when eating steak at a restaurant. When I walk into Black Angus, I only expect average quality food, and average quality service especially for a price of $35 for two (using their monthly coupons).
I am very pleased with the quality level of the food and service at this particular Black Angus. Yes, the cut of meat they have is fairly average being USDA choice, with sometimes a higher fat content than normal, but this place always seems to cook their steaks properly to order! Whether you ask for medium, medium rare, medium-well, or well done the cooks get it right! I can't say the same for Ruth's Chris, which cooks a vastly superior tasting steak, but can't get the doneness I ask for correctly (this has happened twice!).
The flavor of the steaks is pretty tasty, and they also have great grill marks. The cuts run a little thin, but that's to be expect for $35 for two. You basically get an appetizer (I always opt for the sampler), your choice of steak (each person), and a desert for two people! I find that to be an awesome deal for a sit down.
There is usually no wait, and the staff is very attentive and is always checking on how your meal is going. They are always on top of filling your drinks, so no running thirsty in the middle of a meal.
I highly recommend this place for $35 for two, but I wouldn't be disappointed either if I had to pay full price.
Came here for mother's day...yeah it was packed and we made reservations but got there 5 minutes late so we had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table. But this place has a sweet as bar at least 10 televisions all on sports. Had a 22 oz Stella for $8 and bought my mom a Long Island Ice Tea cause I'm such a good son, $8.50.
They actually have a pretty sweet deal going on, $50 for 2 people, you get an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert. The entrees come with 2 sides,a salad or a soup is considered a side. The only thing is the entrees come with a pretty small piece of animal, but it taste great. The service was pretty good, and it was a pretty sweet deal especially with the dessert.
Not impressed with this steakhouse. Â Slowwwwwwwwwest service ever. Â Like can I have my salad before the entree? Â I mean really bad. Â I flagged the hostess for bread and butter after sitting for 25 minutes. Â She offered plates to. Â Great, now can you be our server?
The steak was dryyyyyyyyy, even with the mushrooms. Â And the lobster was decent and there you earned 2 stars. Â The other star was for the dessert. Â Wow!!!
Since my last review, SA has revamped their menu. No, they still don't offer pasta premavera or shitake skewers. This is still meat-central. Which is fine by me because they still have the stuff I like. But they have also added several items called "sidekicks" which are of interest to the grazing herbivore. Not all sparkle most must will add some luster to the plate:
- Wild Rice - I adore wild rice. Â Chewy, slightly pasta-like. Â And the no-frills version at SA is a delight. I like to sprinkle it into the (non-anchovy) Caesar's.
- Mac 'n Cheese - Too soupy the several times I've had it. Â But the sauce seems authentic and not Velveta. (may be seasonal)
- Creamed Spinach - Disappointing. I was expecting Boston Market but this was more like what some low-rent dives serve Canned greens with melted cheese on top. (I think they have since taken this off the menu, or it is seasonal.)
- Sweet Potato Fries - Too Sweet and slightly salty. They should be crisp but are soft and limp. Crisp sweet potato fries are excellent and can found in abundance on Sawetelle Blvd. and vicinity, but the style hasn't migrated here. Â
- Coleslaw - Dullsville. Jerry's does a good Coleslaw with flakes of parsley PF Changs makes one with a light orange dressing that is delightful But BAs almost totally dry. Â
Another hint... they do a "steak quesadilla" Â (actually on flatbread, not tortilla). Â I have asked to sub out steak for sauted mushrooms. Â A very nice lunch option.
Went there on a Saturday nigh with some friends. The parking lot was full, but the restaurant was relatively empty. No wait for a table. They have specials, which in this economy, I like. The service was very good and the ribeye was very good. Actually, the ribeye was better than the one I payed twice the price for at Mastro's in TO. I enjoyed the meal very much. Â
I've been there in the past, but I think everything has improved
