I have frequented Blue Cube for the past 6 or 7 years. I've only gone on Fridays for their happy hour deal with free pool and discounted drinks. Unfortunately, the place has really gone downhill of late. The tables are still in great shape but all the furniture around them is falling apart. The general look of the inside is also starting to get a bit rundown. The bartender seems more interested in playing pool rather than bartending. The bathroom no longer is kept clean. The owner used to work the bar and I haven't seen him in a very long time so maybe that is the reason for the decline. Even with free pool I find it hard to get myself motivated to visit Blue Cube.
Review Source:Bar is cool. Ok drink menu. Crowd is a little rough considering its located in Orange. Let me put it this way, if you like the crowd of a Dive Bar but the look of a more upscale pool hall, then this is the place for you. Never going back again. Very disappointed.
Has a lot of potential if they change some things and concentrate on a diff clientele base.
Looks like some life is getting breathed back into this place. It would get a better review if the bartender didn't mix up my drink...or forget I was standing there. And it really would've gotten a better review if they didn't forget my friend's food for an hour before comin over and asking if he got his wings. And its actually a good positive they stopped using the jukebox with their poor music selection, got rid of the old dj, and got a new better one
Review Source:Wow, where do I start. Â I went in on a Friday night a couple weeks ago. Â Everyone working there looks like they are on something. Â Very unfriendly bartender. Â Drink prices are astronomical. Â This place is a meat market. Â The ratio was 1 girl for ever 10 guys. Â That was my observation. Â Didn't matter to me since I was with my girl.
DO NOT ORDER FOOD! there is just a microwave on the bar were they nuke food. Â There is no kitchen. Â
The DJ's music was horrible. Â I needed to stop and get some Tylenol on the way home when I left because my head was pounding.
I'll never go there again.
I think this place may have replaced my beloved Towne Billiards in Hamden as favorite pool hall....there's just something about it I like so much better. The set up is nice....lots of comfy seating, around the tables and in the back. (The back is a good place to hang out while waiting for a table.) They have a pretty good selection of beer, and they mix some good martinis! It is pretty low-key, for all the sleek decor, which is nice.
Review Source:Normally I can't stand trendy bars. They're usually full of a bunch of people trying too hard to do any or all of the following: look good, drink their faces off, act like an ass in public, get laid.
Now, look, I'm not opposed to any of those things necessarily. God knows I've done all of them many times. All I'm saying is that when I go out, I like to just be myself. I don't generally feel the need to try and impress anyone.
So, for that reason, I avoided Blue Cube for a while. I sort of had this idea in my head that it was going to be full of frosty haired guys wearing all black, and girls in sunglasses which are about 10 times the size of their head. And, yeah, those people were definitely there, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. In fact, I really had a good time.
There's about a dozen pool tables or so, which is a shame, because I've had to wait about an hour to play on more than one occasion, so it would be nice if they had more room for more tables, but I guess there's not really much they can do about that.
The bartenders make decent drinks, and I sort of like the way the bar area looks, even though it may be a little over the top. The rest of the space is decorated comfortably, and it makes me want to stay and keep playing.
Forget about food, though. They do have food here, but they have no kitchen. That's all you really need to know about how they actually "cook" the stuff on their menu. Don't get food here unless you're beyond desperate. Seriously.
If you want to shoot some stick and have drinks, this is by far the best option in the New Haven area. Even if there are people in your group who don't want to play, they should have no problem hanging out at the bar.
