Great drink prices and specials. A lot of space, and a good variety of things to do! Usually a good crowd of people and the drinks are usually very good :)

Always a fun spot!  We (husband and me) usually show up there with our own group of friends, but even then, we always end up meeting new people.  Everyone is always friendly and social.  This little bar attracts a nice diversity of people -- ages, ethnicities, locals an outsiders.  I enjoy the music and always make good use of the tiny little dance space.  Drinks are priced right and it's just always been fun times at the Blue Moon Lounge.

Youngish crowd. Cool jukebox. Friendly bartenders. I liked it. Super divey.

Dive bar for a Friday night bored out of my brain!! Very slow night I presume! The chick bartender was really nice and did a wonderful job taking our drinks. But, that might have been since no one else was in the place? I really liked the second floor it reminded me of a teenagers fantasy bedroom! There was a air hockey table, pool table, a tv, and a few other arcade style games. There was parking on the side of the bar which was cool. I mean I would have to try this place out again just cause the drinks were cheap and the surrounding attractions were good.

An extra star for the cheap drinks.  I paid $4 for my bud light, so that was cool.  Only one pool table upstairs, we would have liked a few tables.  But the space will not allow for it.

Meh, it just wasn't my thing.

Cheap/strong drinks are reason enough to come here if you're in the area...not to mention Paul the hot bartender!

Don't expect anything special or crazy. Blue Moon is a laid back neighborhood bar with an inviting atmosphere. Friendly patrons and staff and cheap drinks. It's the perfect place to just grab a beer and kick back with friends. One of the bartenders (Asian girl) is really sweet and makes a mean drink. Just be careful of cops in the area. They literally wait outside to catch people.

    Cheap drinks
    Good atmosphere and crowd
Beer pong table is a nice touch for those random beer pong cravings
There's always something to do at the blue moon lounge, a lot of comfortable seats and games
Good music and a good amount of flat screens for your entertainment
And who ever lives in LCR its right there!

My friends took me here for my 21st birthday to get some beers. The bartender was pretty cool and we all talked and joked around. Overall it seems pretty chill, but it was also late and pretty dead

I had more fun at the dentist but hey its a bar. It needs a dj and better parking. Also the chicks there look like they were men.

This is a one of my favorite hang out spots.  They have good drink specials, friendly staff and a variety of events throughout the week.  The owners are a lot of fun as well.  Come and check out the Blue Moon if you're looking for a good time.

One of my favorite watering holes for its simplicity.  No food, no DJs, no frills.  Just a few flat screens, well priced drinks, pool, shuffle board, darts, and a very friendly staff.  Sometimes they have music which can be cool.  Best part is, the music is all done upstairs (not where the main bar is) so if you're not trying to get your groove on you can kick it at the bar and drink and be away from the noise.  Also, about once a month on a Sunday, they have a comedy show there which is in all honesty really damn well done.  You wouldn't think an unassuming joint like the Blue Moon would have such entertainment.  But if you ever get a chance to check it out, do so.  Tons of great comics and a great way to spend a Sunday night.

I was there in Sept.  It wasn't special, but it's ok.  If I lived in ultra cool Montrose I might go again. However, if your driving a few miles, it's not worth it.

Crowd looked alright....didn't see anybody that made me want to hide my wallet...haha

This place is under the new management of Mr and Mrs G, so it has changed quite a bit. Place isn't anything special but if you're looking for cheap drinks, good people, and a good time this is a great place. Bartenders are good and the drinks are usually pretty strong. This place is nothing fancy, but a great place to hang out and have a good time.

My new favorite spot for Happy Hour because it lasts all night!!! $5 well drinks including good margaritas and even an Absolut cocktail. $6 wine and even less expensive beer. Plus $3 Asian Appetizers to boot! They even bring you fresh won tons with sweet and sour sauce for no charge. I think I died and went to heaven, why oh why did it take me so long to discover this gem?!?!

The Blue Moon Lounge is under new management and better than ever! The couches upstairs have been replaced with high tables and bar stools, there are some new (and hot) faces behind the bar, a new sign you can actually read out front and the place is just so much better overall! Karaoke is now every Thursday, there's Sunday Funday Stand-up Comedy night the last Sunday of every month and there have been some bands on random Friday and Saturday nights. Not to mention there's always Happy Hour with great prices! Overall I'd say the place has improved a ton and there's always something going on.

If you're not expecting much and don't mind parking maybe a couple blocks down, this place might be alright.

Blue Moon, or any bar in Montrose, is not really that great, but not entirely a terrible experience either. This place is cheap, or the last time I was there it was. It's kind of between a dive and a lounge. The decor is very colorful so that disqualifies it from being a dive. There is a downstairs and an upstairs. Sometimes bands play upstairs. Not any good bands though...

Jukebox has all the normal stuff any jukebox anywhere else will have. The well drinks are cheap and are mediocre. A half decent beer selection. The staff is friendly enough.

Crowd's not necessarily interesting or that friendly. This is a locals bar, so all the people in here basically grew up in La Canada, La Crescenta, Tujunga, Montrose/North Glendale. And despite some of them being in their 20s some are well into their 30s and still talking up those old high school stories...so yeah, not terribly interesting people.

If you want a more interesting drinking and/or dining experience I'd just head up to the Fat Dog up the street. Little bit pricier though.

The Blue Moon Lounge recently acquired new owners and you can see that they love their establishment.  The bar is a great place to just hang out with friends and catch up, not too loud, but loud enough that you don't feel like you are sharing every intimate detail with the whole bar.
I went for the first Sunday Night Comedy hour, and was impressed.  The comics they found were great (the lack of cover charge even better) and the upstairs area is a lot of fun.  They have Karaoke on Thursday nights which I have heard is fun, even one of the owners participates.
Drink wise, I was enjoying a fat tire on tap.  They seem to have a full bar and prices are reasonable.  I highly recommend visiting this gem in Montrose for a beer and great company any night of the week.

just another one of those dive bars with older men and people who live in that small town who have no better place to go to. But the bartenders are very friendly and the drinks are SUPER DUPER CHEAP

So there were some douchie people there on a Wednesday night, but I didn't let that hinder my fun.

Down stairs floor is kind of small and can get kind of crowded, but there is plenty of room upstairs with the beer pong table and pool table.

$5 well drinks are okay. When I ordered a irish car bomb the bartender just made it with well whiskey... I thought that was kind of odd, but they were only $6 bucks instead of $8 - 9, so that was fine with me. I just wish I would have known before hand thats how they do it there.

Ended up dancing to the sweet ass music my friend was "spinning" and playing a heated game of uno. Fun place. I shall return most likely.

Parking didn't seem too difficult either...there was plenty out front.

Some interesting things I noticed last night at Blue Moon:

    - The Christmas night crowd was shockingly diverse and full of real "characters". I believe we even saw look-alikes of James Franco, George Clooney, and some guy who worked there looked like Benicio del Toro but thinner and younger and wearing a fedora. There were a few buzz--cut Marine looking guys too.

    - Sign on the door reads "No F'n drinks outside, please"

    - Crazy Charlie. This is what we nicknamed the old dunk guy sitting at the bar. He seemed to change stools every now and then and was DEFINITELY falling asleep. He kept making weird lecherous facial expressions and popping his eyes open each time he realized he was about to pass out. We saw him wobble outside to have a smoke and I thought he was having a stroke or a heart attack out there the way he was acting. Nope though, Crazy Charlie was just fine and came back in for some more "sauce".

    - Bartender with fake tits and her booty hanging out of her green Santa/Elf dress. She was somewhat obnoxious but overall pretty nice and friendly.  She yelled things a lot like "If you're not 21 and you're in my bar, GET OUT!" Pretty cute girl though and her boobs (she told us that they were paid for, not real) looked pretty natural. Bonus points for having the nerve to wear such a scandalous outfit. Though she was rockin' boyshorts underneath the dress her cheeks were definitely hanging out all over the place.

    - Quite a few people here looked like they could possibly be vampires passing as regular human beings...One of them in particular had dark bags under his eyes and I'm pretty sure I saw him give my boyfriend the elevator eyes. He too yelled strange things like "For the next 5 minutes, if you love your bartender, buy her a shot! No Jager!" What? Why would I BUY my bartender a shot.  If she wants to get tore up she can just sneak a sip or two on her own can't she?

    - Juke box! Heard a good mix of songs from country to classic rock to girl-pop. Good bass and speaker system too, we could FEEL the music right under our butts as we sat in the booths against the front window.

    - Men's bathroom was sick and full of someone's vomit. Avoid avoid avoid. Women's bathroom was cleaner but there's only one toilet (no stall door) and the main door that leads back to the bar doesn't have a lock on it! I was a little concerned that my bare ass would be on display if some chick pulled the door open unknowingly but everyone seemed to know that you don't open the door! The toilet is kinda oddly situated so you either have to sit on it sideways or bang your knees against the wall.

It seemed like everyone knew each other and were regulars. I liked that vibe, like a real neighborhood kind of place. There's an upstairs part too but we didn't venture up there. I only had a beer so I don't know how stiff the drinks are but if I'm in the mood for some EXCELLENT people watching I'll probably find myself here again.

Ok, I'm kinda surprising myself with the 4 stars but I think this place is just fine for what it is: a local bar.
    Drink.
Watch a game. (if you're into that sorta thing-not my bag) .
    Repeat.
An extra star because the crazy-diverse mix of people, they'll sometime order some really great pizza and sell it by the slice while it's super hot and all the parking and make things pretty simple.
    Prices good.
Service nice.  Nothing special.  Never rude.
Not a fan of all the smoke, but a good slice of pizza to chase your happy hour priced beer can almost make me forgive it.

While I've always been leery of the continental acceptance of alchoholism that seems to pervade my own strange little personal image of European society, I've become romantically attached to what I see as a very European (and in particular British) way of drinking:  THE AFTER-WORK PINT.

My recent change of locale, from the greater San Francisco area to the greater Los Angeles area, has promoted my likeliness to engage in this classy little end-of-day ritual.  You see, due to Circumstances, I currently don't have a car of my own.  Attractive, dateable quality in a man?  You bet your sweet no-see-ums.  Ladies get all hotted up for flabbergasting inconvenience, WE ALL KNOW THIS FOR A FACT.  So, on particular nights, when public transit's a haughty prude and I don't have other means, I get to walk the four and a half miles from work.

Really, it's not a terrible thing.  It's excercise, and persons have certainly endured worse.  What I'm getting at is that on my walks home, I pass various restaurants and other businesses, some of which intrigue me.  The only bar I pass, though, is the Blue Moon.  (Establishments that close before 2:00am, no matter their alchohol licenses, do not get to claim the title of Bar).

Tonight was such a night, and while waiting for the late bus that stops on the same block as the Blue Moon, I thought, gee-it seems like a quiet night.  I should... I should have THE AFTER-WORK PINT.  I entered, a few hangers-out were, yes, hanging out, and the cute bartender was playing Guitar Hero with a patron.  Excellent first impression.  Upon finishing "Message in a Bottle", she got me my pint (Guinness, naturally), I paid, I drank, I tipped, I left.  I had THE AFTER-WORK PINT.

Those working were laid-back and friendly.  The patrons all seemed pretty chill.  They didn't have many beers on tap, but those I could make out in the neon blue lights were quality.  Someone was smoking weed in the parking lot, but declined to hook a bus-waitin' type dude up.  All in all, a pleasant, relaxed experience, and one I would not be loathe to repeat.

The Blue Moon, you are a good bar, and I must needs revisit at a later date.

Two stars for the Blue Moon now. It feels like such a frat boy bar with those stupid blue lights.

But if this was for the Blue Moon pre-facelift, I would give it five stars. Back in the days when there were pool tables upstairs, Brad, Angie, or Dixie working the bar, and that deliciously sleazy red vinyl couch upstairs, I used to LOVE this place. This is one of the first bars I ever went to. My 22-year old friend took me here and taught me how to tip, how to drink and not get all shit-canned like some stupid little sorority girl, and why it is important to know your bartenders. For being a dive, they had some really good beer, too, and it was damn cheap. And they had a dumbwaiter, so if you were upstairs playing pool, you could send down a request and some money to the bartender, who would send up your drink and your change! How awesome is that?

Sure, there were shady tweakers who would trickle in from Tujunga, etc, but I never had anything sketchy happen here, just good times and bountiful tipsy conversations. My friend and I used to convince people to come here with us by singing the song, "Blue Moon."

It never ceases to amaze me how Montrose is this well-to-do community with total dive bars. I like it. To me, it balances out, somehow.

There's a bar in Montrose?  Where the F*ck is Montrose?  Wtf is MONTROSE?  Uh, yah...this place wasn't my cup of tea.   Maybe if I was a college student/groupie ready to party with other 21 yr olds and watch my favorite band, I'd like it.  But NO, I'm off this place.   Otherwise, if you belong to sororities, come here, drink some beer and shoot the shit with backwards-hat frat boys.   One upside, it seemed like it was in a nice and safe neighborhood, so no need to worry about drive-bys.  Lol.  jk.

I also wouldn't call this place a dive bar. We're new to the area and walk here from our house from time to time. It surely isn't for those looking for an upscale place. It's a jeans and t-shirts, mostly beer drinking, kind of place where a lot of locals hang out. The regulars seem friendly enough. They're on the younger side and all seem to have gone to school together. We are in our upper 20's, low 30's and tend to feel a little out of place at times.

The staff has always seemed friendly and are great about remembering you. In the end, I wouldn't call it a destination bar per se, but it's a good place to stop in and get a drink now and again.

Dive bar that is trying to be above itself with strange weird lighting in the decor. Not a bad place to hang and socialize actually. Fat Tire, Blue Moon, and some other standards on tap. Full bar. Also have Jager in a dispenser thing. It is teh kewl. Upstairs has a broken pool table and some couches with some strange stains on them, not sure what they are from, but don't want to put a black light on them. I can walk here from my house so its cool.

This place aint so bad. I wouldnt consider it a dive bar, its a notch above it since its clean and so blue. I havent been here in a while but its a nice place to chill and intimidate all the white yuppies who may be thinking that the "minorites are comin to town!", its like gentrification in reverse! woo!The drinks are nice and cheap. AMF's are about 7 bucks with lots of bang for your buck.

"Wait, where do you want me to meet you? ...At a bar? ...In MONTROSE??"

That's all I needed to hear. Bar in Montrose.

    It can't possibly be good.

    And it wasn't.

There was a live band upstairs but it was so loud, you couldn't hear anything. The furniture there is old and grungy and the whole feel of the place just isn't my thing.

And don't even get me started on the bartenders...

I asked for a Sex on the Beach. Standard drink, every bar makes it. They gave me a drink, but it definitely wasn't what I ordered. First off, it was watery, like the ice in it had been melting for the past twenty minutes. Secondly, it was coconutty. Now, I don't know about you, but I've never had a Sex on the Beach with coconut anything in it. It's not in the recipe! So why is there freaking coconut in my drink! Lastly, you know how the drink is supposed to be orange and red in color (because of the cranberry and orange juice)? My drink was a pale milky pink.

But then again, I should have expected as much.

It IS a bar in Montrose.

This place has really blown up.  Spacially it should be considered the local "dive", but somehow it escapes that tag.  Perhaps it's the hip young twenty-something crowd that lightens the place up.

There is an upstairs that usually isn't crowded that has comfy couches, a pool table, darts, and a shuffle board table.  There are bands there sometimes, but personally I think the venue proves to be too small for that, and it gets too loud in there and kills the vibe.

There is a juke box downstairs, and the bartenders are very thorough and friendly.  Drinks are reasonably priced, and there are occasional theme parties there which have added to the attractiveness of the bar.

I like it, cool scene, great place to chill and have a cocktail.

*bonus = they have Blue Moon on tap
