Hidden gem in Sonoma!
We went on Sunday night for jazz night...I have never seen anything like it! People just brought their instruments and rotated in to play with other people. We probably saw at least 20 different musicians and they were all fantastic!
This seemed to be a place for mostly Locals, so it was fun to enjoy the atmosphere. Everyone was so nice, drinks were cheap, and the music was great...can't get much better than that.
We got there early (9:30 or so) which allowed us to grab a table...the place really filled up around 10:30-11.
I love dive bars. Â Especially when I'm out of town. It gives you a good feel of the locals. Â Well, my girls and I were in Sonoma & thought to come to this bar despite some people giving us the stick eye when we told them that we were coming here. Â I love nice things, but I also love places with character. Â
Bottom line the bartender was nice, but the locals were rude and uninviting. Â I suppose it's how they must like their bar...local & non-touristy.
Another Sonoma version of Cheers. Cheap drinks, stiff cocktails, and full of locals.
My crew andI headed here on the recommendation of a local for their blue grass Sunday nights. It was our last day in town, and we HAD to go slap some knee.
While they were missing a banjo, they had tons of character and even got me - who doesn't dance unless I'm 10 beers deep - up out of my seat only after two.
There wasn't a stage, just a crammed space in front of the bar where the bad had a little bit of space to set up. Talk about an intimate concert.
Bartenders were friendly, the bathrooms were easy to find, and the back patio provided a spot to get a bit of fresh air - or in this particular case, a smoker's paradise since you can't light up inside. Sadly there was no smoke-free place for us to go outside, unless it was out in front of the bar.
Do yourself a favor and just go for the bluegrass (or altered version of) on Sundays. I think you'll dig it if you know what to expect.
Used to be our favorite dive bar - but recently had a bad experience that will cause us to NEVER go back there again.  I guess they had hired a new daytime bartender - who after chekcing our ID - refused my boyfriend and said his ID was fake and he was not of age.  Which could not be any further from the truth.  She was rude about the whole thing and basically said she wouldnt serve him becaue of his race and that we needed to go!  well we did go  and will NEVER go back!
Review Source:After an incredibly long sales conference and an even longer dinner with unlimited glasses of red wine, the bus dropped us off at the Blue Moon Saloon.
There was one bartender and 45 of us. Â Despite this, she KILLED it. Â And we're talking serious orders like shots, martini's, numerous mixed drinks. Â And they were cheap!
Basically if you're ever at a sales conference in Sonoma and need to bond with your coworkers over booze, this is the place to be.
My favorite bar. Dive yes, but the bartenders are my buds, Brian and Matty. I love playing pool here and having coors light and the green stuff, cryptinite. It will kick your ass!! Â So Jemma is awesome too, she's on days, I love her!! She makes kick ass bloody mary's. And then there's Korin, she is a doll. The moon is homey and all my friends go there. It's not as seedy as it once was, the crowd is a lot younger. The music is good, jukebox of course and karaoke the first tuesday of every month..
Review Source:If you're looking to play pool, spread out, enjoy yourself listen to the best juke box in town, come to the Blue Moon. If you want to hang out with lame fake people and tourists go downtown or something. The crowd is seedy, but this is, afterall, a dive. That's why you go there. They've just revamped the outside area making it the only "dedicated" bar in Sonoma with an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your drink while smoking a cigarette or talking shit about other patrons (my preferred, I don't smoke cigarettes). This is the only place I take my out of town visitors when we go drinking because it's the only bar in town where you can really have fun and have space instead of feeling like a cattle. Â This is also the only place I go out with my girlfriends - seedy or not, the crowd is safe and entertaining if nothing else! Date night? Sure, why not! Boyfriend loves it here, too!
