"The emptiest of feelings
Disappointed people, clinging on to bottles,
and when it comes it's so, so, disappointing
Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Shell smashed, juices flowing
Wings twitch, legs are going
Don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel
One day, I am gonna grow wings
A chemical reaction
Hysterical and useless, hysterical and
Let down and hanging around"
Mix one part boring, three parts stupid, two parts lame and you have a hot mess of a place called Steiners. Stumbled into the bar a few times, thinking each time would be a better than the last. No luck, it continues to prove itself a mindless sports bar without a soul. Â Â
What you can expect at Steiners: An odd mix of people, most about 40 to 50 years old, with a splash of tourists and younger folks with 49er shirts high fiving each other at every tackle. The bartenders have zero personality and service mediocre. Conversations here are typically shallow and neither friendly or unfriendly. Environment is a modern sports theme pretending to be established. On live band nights, be prepared to talk with no one unless your prone to yelling. Music is really loud and annoying. There are much better bars in Sonoma.
My wife stopped in here on our honeymoon because we wanted to watch some NFL football at a local place. Â We looked at online reviews and decided that Steiner's Tavern would be the place to go because they have multiple TV's and a sports theme.
Turns out they indeed have many TV's and there were about 6 games showing at once when we walked in there. Â It was a pretty good place to catch some football on a Sunday afternoon.
Other reviewers were right about the locals. Â There were about 15 of them lined up at the bar. Â We saw lots of slaps on the back, making fun of each other, taking shots, and gawking at any female that happened to walk by (including my wife). Â One of them actually offered to buy her a drink!
Overall, it's a pretty nice place. Â Somewhere between a dive bar and a sports bar. Â It was very clean, although the men's room was out of soap which kind of scared me. Â We ordered the sampler platter and their famous chowder. Â It was pretty good bar food, but far from healthy. Â But hey, we were on vacation.
Steiner's was a good place for hanging out to watch the game and have a few beers. Â I found it interesting that there were no tables there (there might have been one). Â You either bellied up to the bar or sat at an area with a bar extending between two pillars (that's where we were). There is no table service, so you need to go up to the bar to get a drink, and subject yourself to the drunken ramblings of the locals. Â Watch out if you're female, they get real friendly later in the day. Â If you want food, you go back to the kitchen window and tell them what you want. Â Good service, nice people.
Note that this bar is cash only.
