I believe Blue Olive is closed as of May 2010.
We ate here numerous times, and stopped in late-night for a drink or two on occasion. Food was always ok, even excellent on occasion, and the olive was the only place in town to see live Jazz. Cover charges were always reasonable and paid gladly.
As to why they closed, I have no idea, but you can tell a lot about a venue by how they treat their performers. A good friend played here a few months ago, and a full time pro musician shouldn't have to argue to get paid their previously agreed fee.
5 stars for live jazz, 2 stars for the rest.
Despite repeated bad experiences, I keep ending up there b/c of friends and family wanting to try it. The latest snafu was with not having a reservation, but still having a hard time getting a seat in the nearly empty restaurant. The issue of watered down drinks has been a constant. The food has been OK, but over-priced for what it is.
Review Source:During my recent visit to the Blue Olive, my experience with the owner (Jeff) was not pleasant to say the least. I ordered the "Four cheese ravioli." Once, I received my plate, this meal wasn't what I expected and I didn't enjoy the taste. I'm not trying to imply that the food served at the "Blue Olive" is terrible; I just didn't enjoy the meal I ordered. I informed the waiter who looked stumped and was unsure how to deal with a customer that wasn't satisfied with their meal. He told me he was going to get the manager.
I sat and waited for a manager to walk up to the table. Out of nowhere about 10 minutes later, a man walked up to the table dressed as if he had been washing dishes and scrubbing pots in the back. His appearance was dirty and he looked as if he hadn't shaved in a week. He asked me about my food and I was wondering to myself, why another customer is questioning me about my meal. I explained to him that I was unhappy with my meal and he looked off into space as if I was such an ugly person and he didn't want to look at me. He then proceeded to tell me the meal I ordered was a favorite amongst other patrons. I guess he thought by making that comment, I would change my mind but I still unhappy with my meal. He proceeds to speak to the waiter and that's when I arrived at the conclusion that he was the manager. It wasn't until later when I was asking for the name and number of the owner that I discovered he was actually the owner.
I tried to hand my plate to Jeff and he rudely walked away from me and ignored me. I gave my plate to the waiter. Jeff never introduced himself to me as a manager or owner and he was rude and unprofessional toward me because I was unhappy with my food. He insulted me and told the waiter not to let me order anything else in front of the eight people I was sitting with. My friends also thought he was rude. I've never been so embarrassed in my life and never treated this way before just because I was unhappy with my food. I believe the owner is racist and if I had been another color, I wouldn't have been spoken to in that manner. Due to this experience, I will not be visiting this establishment anytime soon in the future.
On another note, the music was wonderful and I really enjoyed the band, they were the best. My friends also felt the band was the best thing this restaurant had to offer but we all agreed that we wouldn't be back anytime soon.
