This is a great place and the only thing keeping me from giving it four stars is the lack of food. It's right on the west edge of Forest park and is the only joint I'm aware of nearby that opens by 7:00 A.M.
The range of songs on the box reflect the geezerhood that are the main customers early on to the younger guys coming in later after work and playing 8 or 9 ball on the 7' pool table. There's an interesting checkerboard darkwood area over the bar that sports a bunch of old gas light looking lamps and a big picture of Chief Illiniwek flanked by the U of I "I" in blue on an orange field and the U of I "I" in orange on a blue field on the south wall. Otherwise the place is a mish mosh of different wall boards and a black and white tiled floor scuffed by thousands of shoes.
Basic shot and a beer bar stock presided over by Michael this morning. The conversation is always friendly and the vibe is always good. An added plus is that if you come from the west on you can park for nothing west of the alley.
My favorite dive bar ever. I drive here all the way from Wood Dale (near O'Hare) for Friday night karaoke!
Joy is the best KJ :) and Matt a pretty darn good bartender too (despite his acidic sense of humor).
Definitely ask for an apple pie shot with alcoholic whipped cream. I have NEVER tasted an apple pie shot that actually tasted so much like apple pie!
Having been there for three weeks in a row now I have to say i make new friends every week! this place is one of the friendliest bars ive been to. of course the first time i went in there i didnt know what to think but after the karaoke started and i got to talking to people i made some great people, the bartender is a nice guy and the drinks are cheap, if youre looking for a good fun time this is the place!!!!
Review Source:Karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights are great. Huge selection of tunes and Mike, the KJ is a cool guy.
As for the drinks - stick with the beers. When Mike's brother, (the long-haired guy) is bartending, the mixed drinks are poured very weak. Lots of ice and little booze. The female bartenders of the past, poured good drinks. All in all, the place is a good time with late hours.
Beer in ball jars (that's 4/5 of a liter of beer, if you're counting). CHEAP. Â Awesome internet juke box, pool, darts---what more do you need? Oh, if you answer food? You're SOL. They sell bags of chips and stuff though.
Forest Park has no shortage of dive bars, but I think this is my new favorite. It kind of rocks.
Was always hesitant to go into this bar. I am a huge fan of dives, but this one seemed just a little bit too shady for me. However, I went in there and it actually was a lot of fun. They had kareoke, and the bartender was pretty cool. I am pretty sure it is owned by the same family who runs shortstop lounge as well. Got nothing to lost by trying it out.
Review Source:Friendly crowd, good prices. Not pretentious like many of the bars on Madison are trying to be. Karaoke Friday AND Saturday nights! Pool table, darts with a dart league, juke box.
While there isn't a regular food menu, you can get a cheap pizza there. And they do often have food for events. There's a chili cook off and often a spread of food for big sporting events and such.
I do wish there was a place to sit outside for smoking.
Blueberry Hill is THE definition of a dive bar. It's a comfortable-but-basic neighborhood pub with everything you could ask for in a bar: good drink selection, attentive service (Kayleigh was great!), billiards, darts, and an internet jukebox with hundreds of awful choices. It really doesn't get any better than that.
The downside which prevented me from giving Blueberry Hill a full 5-stars was the fact that despite the name being reminiscent of a pancake/waffle joint, this pub doesn't have a food menu.
So if you find yourself in the forest park area with a handful of friends, Blueberry Hill is the place to go. It's a Cheers-style pub, with friendly staff and friendlier patrons. Can't go wrong here!
Came here and played darts and pool. A nice small bar in Forest park. The bartender was real friendly and she told me about other places owned by the owner. I guess there is another location in Fox lake with rooms above the bar. Not sure what she meant by that but i guess that place use to be a whore house she said later. Will have to make a trip there to see if anything changed.
Review Source:This place is the sister bar to Circle Inn. Â Extreme dive, and in a depressing way. Â I think the dive bar can be a really good experience, and I'm sure there are those that feel all warm and snuggly here. Â Not me. Â The nice thing about FP is that there are so many other bars to choose from and this one never strikes my fancy. Â Pool table, darts, and fine selection of cheap beers.
They did a recent renovation and did manage to attract a slightly younger crowd, but the old man still rules the roost. Â
It's a few steps south of the Madison strip so it's probably a good place to hide. As Ted O. mentioned, you can drink first thing in the morning if that's your thing. Â (Again, not judging, just suggesting.)
FIVE-Star Old Man Bar!....this place is a throwback to the old corner taverns...cheap strong drinks, nice jukebox, darts, pool.....free popcorn.....good staff....ive been coming here for years and this place holds sentimental value.....i managed an overnight crew and we used to work an extra hour sometimes.....why? Â so we could work till Blueberry Hill opened.....nothing is better than a Weiss at 710 am....
