The other reviews on Yelp are pretty much spot-on. The place is small and lively. The bar area (in the main restaurant) is warm and inviting. The service was very good to excellent. The food, however was a little hum-drum and not very imaginative. Slightly upscale pub food, I would label it. Had the "pulled" pork sand. with fries. Just okay...My wfie had a salad which was fresh and tasty, but nothing that makes us want to go back just for the food. Bobby did stop by all the tables to say hello, which we thought was a nice touch.
Review Source:Bobby Simon's was just ok. My husband and I, along with two other couples, went last night because we wanted to stay in the Doylestown area. I had been resisting going because I loved the old Roosevelt Blue Star and didn't like that it was being replaced. We ordered a few appetizers (mussels, shrimp cocktail, some sweet potato fries) and they were fine...just fine, nothing special. A few salads were delivered, very run-of-the-mill, nothing stood out. Then, our meals, a couple salmon dishes, pork chop, scallops, petite filet. I was rather shocked at how small all of the portions were...not that we needed more, but at those prices, I'd think portions would be a bit bigger. A few dishes were served with mashed potatoes...who serves plain mashed potatoes anymore...no garlic or wasabi or any special flavoring...rather bland I'd say.  Nobody commented or especially enjoyed anything; it was all just ok. I tried the creme brûlée because I remembered it was good at Blue Star, but this one didn't do it for me. All in all the meal was just ok, service was fine and food fine. I do like the atmosphere, but I dont know if that will be enough to bring me back. Maybe I'd go back to try their samdwiches and burgers?
Review Source:I wish I could write a review for our server. He was great. This review is strictly for the food. It was just, ok. I used to go here often way back when it was Roosevelt's Blue Star and the food was always solid. My husband and I were here last week for an early dinner. We went inside and were overwhelmed by the smell of fish (not good), so we opted to sit outside. We were greeted promptly and brought water right away. I got the truffle fries as an app. They were, ok. Â I thought they would be served with some type of fancy aioli for $9 but they came with a plastic cup of ketchup. Really? And it seemed like they were just tossed with Kraft Parmesean cheese powder, not real shaved parm. They were sub par. For dinner my husband had a cheeseburger and I had the fish tacos. Both were ok. But after I ate my first fish taco I found a black hair in my food. Ugh. Now, to be fair, the server and manager were exceptionally gracious. They apologized profusely, comped our whole meal AND gave us a $25.00 gift card. Sadly, I just don't think the food here is that great, especially in the Doylestown area where you have a lot of choices. I think this place has potential, they just have to raise their standards when it comes to the food.
Review Source:We had a great experience at Bobby Simone's. It was our first time there and we had a very delicious meal. Â The truffle fries were perfectly flavored and crispy. The calamari was cooked just right, which always seems to be a gamble at most restaurants. The scallops with polenta were wonderful. The service was really good and appropriately attentive. There was a decent draft beer selection. All in all we would return.
Review Source:This place has slowly gone downhill over this past year. Â It is disappointing because the food was great, drinks and hanging with friends is a good time. Â I would not go here with my husband for a nice dinner as there are other places much better in ambiance, food and service. Â This is probably a decent place to meet up with the girls or a friend for drinks and appetizers. I don't suggest it for a family dinner or a date night. You have much better options in D-town, just read the other yelpers.
Review Source:I hate to write a bad review, since this was once one of my favorite places to go, but the past two experiences I have had in the last week have been terrible.
The first was the lack of service during happy hour, which was meant to be enjoyed outside during the nice weather. When my friend and I arrived, we walked in, ordered a drink. started a tab, then let the bartender know that we wanted to order food. We sat outside, waiting to order for about 15 minutes, and noone came to the table, so I got up, went inside, and ordered the food at the bar. What was meant to be a time to relax after a long day at work had turned into a constant up and down, in and out of the bar to get service.
The second occurred yesterday, when my boyfriend and I had walked up to have a few drinks and an early dinner, again, outside to enjoy the weather. There was a sign stating to see the hostess for patio seating. My boyfriend walked in, told the hostess that we wanted to sit outside and have dinner and drinks. and she said okay, then proceed to let him stand there, for 10 minutes without being sat, and without a bartender in sight, so we couldn't even order drinks while we waited to be seated.
This place is best for a quick drink at the bar, but not great if you want service while sitting outside to enjoy the nice weather. It really is a shame since they have a great outdoor seating area, but the slow service kills the mood, and makes you want to take your business elsewhere.
I took my boyfriend and my parents to Bobby's two weeks ago and I have to say I was very impressed!  Admittedly, I haven't been there for over a year because the last time I was there I didn't care for our server, but we were in Doylestown and I wanted to give it another chance.  When we walked in, this young gentlemen popped up from the table he was sitting at eating and asked if he could help us.  It turns out the guy doesn't even work there, but is opening up a wine bar across the way with the current owner.  He sat us down and came back after getting us water and started to talk about the menu that apparently was just updated.  He was so excited about the new asparagus soup offering that we ordered two bowls...it was fabulous!  Very fresh and perfect for the nice weather outside.  We waved him back and asked him questions about entrees to try and he suggested the pork chop, scallops, and his favorite, the salmon.  Everything was perfect...and the salmon was unbelievable.  Moist and perfectly done on the inside and the outside had this awesome bronzed crust that made it perfect.  My dad couldn't believe how good the pork was, so after quizzing our new friend, he went into detail about how the chef brines the pork to make the meat juicy during the cooking process.  After lots of great conversation, my dad told him he was a Yankee fan born and bred in the Bronx.  He lit up and talked about his relatives that lived there...he then insisted on buying our table an order of creme brulee to try,  saying it was just as good as anything we could get in the five boroughs.  It was good...although I have had better creme brulee in New York but didn't want to burst the bubble of one of the nicest guys I think I've met  "kind of working" in a restaurant. Â
A great experience and we can't wait to go back!
I had a delightful time at Bobby Simone's. Tucked away down an elegant alley, entrance to the restaurant is a bit confusing. Once inside, however, the ceiling opened up a bit and a soft-spoken hostess greeted my brother & me.
We were a bit under-dressed compared to the average mid-life wifers and suburban couples who seemed to be regular clientele. The young staff never seemed to mind and treated us just as politely.
I had a glass of wine at a standard $8/glass. And then arrived my marvelous burger. Honestly, I cannot remember a better burger. The flavors in this perfectly cooked to order (medium rare) burger were insane. My mouth is watering at the memory. I ordered mine with provolone and sauted onions. I can't even explain the marriage of tastes that took place on my tongue. Flavors = phenomenal.
Alongside, I had the house salad, which I was pleased with. Instead of something banal and devoid of any substantial elements like most house salads, the Bobby house salad includes red pepper and sunflower seeds with cucumber and mixed greens.
We ate deliriously, received our bill promptly, and were on our way in a dreamy stomach-happy haze. To be sure, I will be back!
Stopped by to try out this place to try out their food one weekend from a recommendation. Gotta say I was disappointed, the place was small and gave you a cramped feeling while eating. Hearing other peoples conversations is easy so don't expect too much privacy.
The food was burnt, which did not put a good point on the meal since they are not cheap. The food may be tasty but who would know. They had an amazing amount of employees running around and yet we felt they did not attend to our needs. Getting the check was a wait within itself.
I'd pass on this place and don't plan on visiting again in the near future.
Their bar area seemed to be the place to be although our mixed drink was more juice and ice than anything else.
Shocked to see the irate Valentine's Day review from SG; our experience was the exact opposite! Â Great menu, food prepared to perfection and wonderful service--for a prix fixe dinner, it was also a tremendous value!
We frequent the restaurant often and have never been disappointed! Â I highly recommend Bobby Simones for lunch, dinner, or just drinks at the bar--great friendly crowd!
I have not eaten here - yet.
I stick to the bar area. Â I like the decor and the lounge upstairs. Â I really like to visit when you can stand outside because inside is a little tight, especially when they have live music. Â
They always have my beer, but it tends to be flat when I order draft. :-(
The bartenders are always polite and they get to you relatively quickly, even if it is busy.
Live music is pretty good too.
This place is a "must" visit when we are prowling around in Doylestown.
This review is based solely on the bar, and not the Restaurant. I have never officially eaten food here (only the truffle fries, at the bar) so I can't rate anything other then that.
I will say we used to have an awesome bartender here that hooked us up and always kept us happy. I am sad to say he's left the establishment and moved away. But on with the review!
I honestly never new this place existed until my friends took me here. It's a typical doylestown bar, mostly over priced (especially the drafts) and not enough room. They do have two levels, and the top has couches and tables and another bar. The downstairs sometimes has bands play which I've never complained about. I only disagree with the very limited room that then gives the bar, since the band needs to rope off a whole side of the bar.
There was one female bartender that's irked me however, and I don't think she works there either but it's enough to take off one star. She was rude, ignorant, and sarcastic when the situation did NOT call for it.
Otherwise the place is a nice place we usually come to hang out at. I prefer this place more then others in doylestown being that it's usually not nearly as crowded and lets face it, I'm not in a cramped basement with stupid people that want to start a fight. Most of the crowd that comes here are nice and you can even drink outside when the weather is nice.
One gripe is the parking isn't good. Not to say there's much parking in doylestown to begin with, but if you can't find a spot in the lot, you'll have to find something on the adjacent streets.
All in all I'll give it 4 stars, I will continue to patron this place and hope that it doesn't change much.
I really don't want to give this place any stars. Â My husband wanted to take me somewhere new and nice for my birthday so he made reservations here. Â Because it's literally tucked away between buildings, neither of us had ever realized it was right in the middle of Doylestown. Â As we walked down the alley, we agreed that it looked great. Â The bar side, with tables outside, looked fun and we saw a good crowd enjoying the evening with some pretty drinks and tempting bar food. Â We entered the restaurant side expecting it to be even better and were seated immediately by a woman we assumed was the hostess. Â She didn't seem very welcoming but we didn't care. Â We were excited to have a good meal and a nice time and figured our waitress would be nicer. Â We sat down and noticed the restaurant was completely empty except for one other table . . . maybe that should have been our first clue. Â I opened my menu to find it that it was stained with food. Â GROSS. Â Is it really so difficult to replace the paper inserts with clean ones? Â it's not like we were eating at a run of the mill chain restaurant. Â I pretended not to notice the stains and looked at the choices, which all sounded pretty good. Â Then the hostess lady came back. Â My heart sank a little when I realized she was going to be our waitress. Â She asked for our drink order--even though she hadn't provided us with a wine or beer list (and I saw that the only other people in the dining room had one). Â I told her we were still deciding and then asked if they had any specialties. Â Maybe that's an annoying question, but since it was my birthday I thought I'd try something more exciting than a glass of wine. Â Her reply was simply, "No," and she walked away. Â That was literally all she said. Â This woman did not smile once at us. Â She didn't offer us a wine list. Â She didn't give us any suggestions--I understand if the bar doesn't have signature drinks, but usually a (friendly) server will ask you what you like and suggest a few things. Â My husband wanted a beer but she didn't even stick around long enough to tell us what was on tap. Â We just stared at each other wondering why she was so unpleasant but we were still determined to have a nice time. Â We decided on what we wanted to eat and closed up our menus, waiting for her to return to take our order. Â And we waited. Â And we waited some more. Â Finally, feeling uncomfortable as the other waitress went back and forth, seemingly pretty attentive to the other table we whispered back and forth, "Ok, should we just go?" Â "Give it a few minutes." Â "How long?" Â We never leave a restaurant after being seated. Â We are insanely non-confrontational. Â We never want to be *those* people, never satisfied, huffy and demanding. Â But I just kept thinking that this was my birthday dinner, and if we stayed it was obviously going to suck. Â She was going to treat us like crap, and my husband was going to feel like he ruined the night by choosing this place. Â We realized that she had completely disappeared, so we left. Â We didn't rush or anything, and no one else who worked there seemed to care or notice. Â No one asked if they could help us or if there was a problem. Â We ended up going to Honey, which was delicious and fun, and the servers there were very sweet and friendly. Â I will NEVER go back to Bobby Simone's, not even to the bar there, and I advise you to avoid this place, too, at least until they get their act together and hire some decent help.
Review Source:i've always liked the little bar in the alley. i haven't been in the restaurant since it was roosevelt's blue star, if that says anything. we stopped in for lunch on a sunday. it was empty (which is fine by me). i ordered the blackened salmon salad. it came with candied pecans, danish blue cheese, and warm bacon dressing over baby spinach. i cleaned my plate. it was really tasty. i would definitely go back. they were setting up for the band which i thought was weird for a sunday afternoon. the place is a little small and gets really loud when there's a band in there. otherwise it's a great hangout if it's not too crowded.
Review Source:Concealed pretty well down a small alley a block from the County Theater Bobby Simones is well worth the search. Â The restaurant is fairly small and very comfortable and offers a terrific dinner menu and is also a great place to grab lunch or just drinks. Â Its located only a block and a half south of the court house in Doylestown.
You cant go wrong with any of the meat selections, Â Bobby's does an exceptional job of finding the best meat in the region and I have never eaten a piece that wasnt cooked to perfection. Â A great dining experience for me is a combination of great food, atmosphere, service and attention to detail. Â There are plenty of places that do well in 2 or 3 of these areas but most fail to hit the mark on all 4. Â Bobby's attention of detail is incredible. Â Here's an example: Â while having lunch there one day I ordered a Chicken Caesar salad, Â I happen to like anchovies, many don't. Â Bobby took pride in telling me that he only serves white anchovies and explaining to me the difference they make. Â He was right; Â anyone can make a decent Chicken Caesar, Â but these really changed the flavor of the salad and made it an experience. Â
There is a private room in the back that they are happy to set up for you if you want to host a party that is quieter than the main part of the restaurant and is just the place for a business or family dinner for 10 or less. Â Adding Mike Conti to oversee the restaurant has only taken this place up. Â Mike is the consummate professional and you are pretty much guaranteed a special time when you go.
There is seating outside in the summer months and a bar across the alley that are also part of Bobby's but each area seems to offer something different and stands well on its own. Â
If Bobby is there you will know, he is like an old time restaurateur who takes real pride in meeting you personally and making sure that your expectations are surpassed. Â If not, they will be immediately. Â Pride goes along way to making this spot one to put on your list of "must go's"
If you're 19-23, this is your hang out. I've been here more than 5 times, hoping for  a better experience....it just doesn't come. It's crazy loud, takes forever to get a drink and the bathroom is filthy. The bartenders are friendly....just good luck flagging one down. I stood at the bar for over 15 minutes to get a drink. Had this place been open when I was in college, I would have been all over it....the smell of stale beer, the 2-can sam type of girls spilling their beer on you.....um not so much in my 30's.....too many other great places in Doylestown.
Review Source:I was very surprised to see that no-one had reviewed Bobby Simone's yet! Â My BF and I had dinner there last night and were very impressed. Â You wouldn't know the restaurant was there if you weren't looking for it -- it's down a small alley of shops and restaurants that doesn't have a lot of lighting or activity in the winter (in the summer, the alley is filled with tables so that diners can eat outside). Â We almost turned around and walked back up the street because it didn't look like it was open! Â There are actually two halves to this place -- there's the restaurant, and then directly across the little alley is the bar (there's a little bar area inside the restaurant as well). Â We ate in the restaurant itself.
Given that we were short on time (we had 1 hour before we had to catch a movie), we just ordered several appetizers and some wine. Â We will definitely go back when we have more time, because the food we had was fantastic and we were so comfy and relaxed we didn't want to leave. Â We ordered the duck tacos, calamari, and arancini... Â the only complaint was that the arancini was a bit bland, but I drizzled some of the dipping oil we got with our bread on them and it perked them right up. Â We also ordered soup, I had the snapper soup that came with a little carafe of sherry to mix in. Â Yum. Â Dessert was a serving of some of the best tres leches cake I've ever had.
Bobby Simone's menu changes 4x/year to make use of whatever ingredients are in season. Â We're looking forward to coming back in the spring and savoring a full meal.
