Food - 5 stars no doubt.  Their paninis are great for lunch.. bread is crisped just right n the fillings are all delicious.  For dinner I've tried a few of their pastas n I have to say their carbonara is awesome!  None of that extra creamy nonsense on top of overcooked noodles you get at other places... This spot does it up properly with the egg yolk on top which you mix in to perfectly cooked al dente pasta.  Also tried a few apps, meatballs and bruscettas are all great.

Reason I give it 4 stars is the due to some issues with service.  The staff has all been very friendly everytime I've been there but it just seems like they are always understaffed.  The wait time from sitting to ordering to paying the bill, etc is always longer than it needs to be.  We've also had issues with splitting bills a couple times in large groups... Again, very friendly staff, just not efficient.

Nice atmosphere.. comfortable booths along 1 side of the restaurant with tables running along the wall and a fully stocked bar across the opposite side... Nice decor, made it work for a relatively small place.

Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the food quality.  They can get pretty busy certain evenings n sometimes have DJs and loud music so if you're looking for a low-key dinner, call ahead to see whether or not they have an event going on that night!

The food was really delicious and there was satisfactory service. Everything is reasonably priced with the food and drinks are what you would expect for the area. I really liked the sophisticated atmosphere but how the menu isn't to pretentious. Overall I liked it and would go back again.

Awesome food and there is a cool vibe here. If you want a cool place to chill and relax, go to Bocca Rossa! I went on a Thursday evening. There was a DJ and the music was great!
I ordered a chicken panini and it was delicious. It came with a well dressed 'salad'. My only gripe is that I expected it to be very hot and it wasn't. I think the bartender forgot about me so my sandwich waited in the back for a lil' bit longer than I would have liked.
Overall, a very cool place to go and relax. They have big screen tvs and good music.

I had the rigatoni and sausage, escarole, and garlic.  This comes with an olive oil based sauce and cheese.  Escarole is a green leafy vegetable.  This was a good dish.  The garlic wasn't overpowering.  My wine loving co-worker said they had a really good wine list.  The menu has anti-pasta, small plates, entree salads, pasta, and panini.

Went to Bocca Rossa for a quick dessert with some friends and at 7pm we were the only ones in the restaurant the entire time.

They order panini's and were under impressed with the food and the service, but I will let them share that experience.

I ordered the Cafe Latte and my partner ordered a Cappuccino- both were great and the highlight of the dining experience.  We then ordered an order of the Tiramisu and everyone was disappointed.  It was a lady finger, cut in half, with some hazelnut cream piped into the middle and on the top.  It seemed that the lady finger was not soaked and the overall dessert was dry and had an odd hint of lemon.

We also ordered the Dessert Panini, which was two slices of panettone filled with nutella and then grilled on the panini press and served with a scoop of chocolate ice cream.  it seemed that his was quite a hit and was worth a shot.

The ambiance was great and a awesome decor for a little spot but I don't think i will be back, and judging by the empty restaurant, others are going as well.

I really enjoyed the ambiance at this place. When we first arrived it was quiet and perfect for a glass of wine and a few apps. We met some friends and ordered dinner as well. The food was Ok. I have had much better Italian food. We ordered the mozzarella app and some of the spreads were great and some were lacking in flavor. The bread tasted like it was cut earlier in the day and had some stale pieces. I would have liked it better if it were toasted. I ordered the cherry tomato pasta and it was decent, nice garlic flavor, with ribbons of basil throughout. My husband ordered the sausage pannini and he really seemed to enjoy it. His came with a nicely dressed side of mixed greens. My other dinner guests however did not enjoy. Their food came out cold. One of their dinners was a pasta carbonara. Nothing is worse then having a dish that involves eggs come out cold. The worst part about the night was that around 10 or 11 they just turn the place into a nightclub, We sat right next to what became the dj booth and that is what drove us out. I must say that I did have one of the best bartender/waiters I've had in a long time. I was going to give this place two stars but the waiter was so good I am bumping them up to three. If you are not picky about your Italian, it's worth a trip, If your last name ends in an O, head to nonna's house on Sunday instead and save yourself the aggravation.

OK- I went here once for lunch about six months ago. I ordered one the panini. I thought it was just OK, the place had a weird vibe and the service wasn't that great. We went back last night to see how it was in the evening. The bartenders let us know right away they were out of almost everything on the menu, including meatballs and clams. On a Saturday night? OK we just were going to get a glass of wine. The only good chard on the menu was available by bottle only. The bartender said he couldn't open one, I reluctantly ordered the only chard on the menu. It was OK. Wifey had an espresso martini, he did make it exactly as she specified. It should also be noted there were three people in the entire place and we weren't even sure it was open and very quiet. Less than an hour later a DJ showed up and it turned into alternative night. A great thing for the city but it was a weird transition with no warning. Odd if you are having a quiet dinner at first. We did have some notice but only from other yelpers!! thanks michele t LOL

Bocca Rossa is still awesome, the food is amazing and very flavorful; especially the pasta dishes (try the Pasta Amatriciana), sausage with peppers and the meatball appetizers. The dinner salad is plentiful and is more than enough if you're not looking for anything heavy but want to sate your appetite. And if you ask nicely, you can get your meal tweaked to your liking.
Great wine list, never a cover, and every Tuesday bottles of wine are half the price.  Seating is self-serve... you can sit where you'd like. The owner and bartenders/waitstaff are also helpful and extremely accommodating.  Bocca also plays some of the best ambient and House music downtown. I visit this place every chance I get and have yet to find a reason NOT to.

**One note of interest: Out of towners staying at the Residence Inn can get food and wine delivered to their room... or can come down and buy a bottle to take up with them.

My homegirl and I came here because we were told it had decent food and a nice atmosphere.  Well, we were on our way to church and were hungry so we were excited for some Italian food.  DO NOT come here if you're hungry.  Seriously.  The appetizers we had were tasty and what not, but there's not a lot of food served on each plate.  The drinks were decent, but we weren't even greeted when we entered.  Eh.  Don't think I'll be returning.

Amazing food for a great price!

Stuck at a nearby hotel, as so many in Hartford are, I explored on foot.  At first, Bocca Rossa seemed stuffy and off-putting.  I was dissuaded.

One lovely day, I discovered a sandwich board outside declaring a MWF happy hour and took a chance.

Oh my!!!  The bruscetta was divine - I adore the ricotta with tomato and the onion and goat cheese.  All the meats are delectable - a treat for the palate.

Over the past few days, beyond drinking a great deal of their delicious wines, I have explored the spinach salad (ever so lightly wilted, not over-dressed, and a true treat) as well as the spaghetti with pesto chicken (thin, perfectly sauced slices of chicken adorned tender pasta in a generous serving.)

Altogether, a pleasure.  Did I mention the lovely bartendresses/waitresses?  Attentive, polite, helpful, and sweet!!!

Please, give this lovely gem the attention it deserves!

So if u get a bug in your drink at this place, don't expect 2 get a new drink! The waiter will probably just try 2 get the bug out w/a straw! Yuck! Happen 2 my friend this evening when we went for drinks!  Gross!

Bocca Rossa is an odd little place downtown, part lounge, wine bar, dance club, and at 8pm on Friday we walked in to a DJ blaring house music to an empty room. There was a bartender working and what appeared to be a few servers chatting at a table who greeted us upon walking in.
I kept thinking we should leave but Jerome, the bartender, was engaging. We ordered salads, bruschetta, nutella panini, cappuccinos, as well as several glasses of wine, port, and other cordials. The menu was limited to salads, paninis and bruschetta  Everything we tried was fantastic.
Throughout the evening a small groups walked in and would order one drink and then leave. I kept thanking my husband for renting out an entire restaurant for ourselves.
Bocca Rossa presented itself as an establishment similar to Bin 228 when we asked about the menu, but the scene there is more for the trendier young crowd looking to dance and party. Apparently they even have Latin nights.
