We were there with a large party. Â All the food was OK - but only OK. Â Bland and boring. Â For the prices charged, it should have been much, much, better. Â They did not provide enough servers for the size of our party - two for 45 people (should have been at least 4) but the two servers provided excellent service considering they were overworked.
Review Source:My mom lives near here so we tired it twice. Â Both times we have been sorely disappointed. Â First time we went near the end of lunch service and it seemed that from the bread to the main dishes was stuff that had sat around. Â It was stale, hard and dry. Â The next time was more with in the main lunch hour and things seemed fresher but the flavors were very bland. Â It seems this place has a lot of senior clientele and maybe they are catering to thier type of palate. Â For the price they charge I would choose a more tastier establishment.
Review Source:Went for my husbands birthday, he was very happy with the smaller filet, I Â had orange roughy under leeks and a friend had a burger. Â Food very good but our server did not think to ask if mustard and ketchup needed for burger and we finally flagged down someone. Food was good, and they brought him a slice of cake for his birthday. Â We all tried a forkful, yummy.
Review Source:Very disappointed. My son  & his girlfriend ordered the New York strip steak medium - it came well done. My husband ordered the filet medium & it came out rare. They were all sent back & re-done. We ordered a second round of drinks, but they came out wrong & sent back. The waitress brought out new ones, but were wrong again! We told her to forget the drinks & take them off the bill.  Waitress apologized - doubt if we will be back!
Review Source:Visited on 11/09/2012.   This is our 3rd visit, hoping for a better experience.   We will not be back.  This place needs  to replace the bartender because every time we come here, the drinks are not good.  At far as food is concerned, we ordered two specials, Stuffed Tilapia and Porterhouse Steak with Blue Cheese, with typical cheap-and-easy to make broccoli.   We did eat the majority of both because we were starving, but they were just okay, no wow factor.  The food is not worth what your paying.  Some of these restaurants forget that people go to restaurants to experience better food and drink than what they could make at home.   Homer Glen is supposed to be high class living, but the town has low-class restaurants.  See my other review of the Purple Onion Restaurant in Homer Glen.
Review Source:What a 'meh' experience.
First and foremost, as a graphic designer, I'd like to cry foul. From their website and signage logo... Bonfire says 'fire! fun! meat!'. From the white linens and button-up / tie combo waiters, the experience is far more 'sit down! shut up! pay a bunch of money for mediocre fare!'. Bonfire ought to invest in a better typographer. But I digress.
We ate out with a large-ish party (including my folks, and family friends), and were promptly sat. The dining room was uncomfortably warm. Perhaps no one notified them that it was darn near 70 degrees outside. Immediately after being seated I realized the hostess didn't bring enough menus / place settings / waters. I raised a hand to a passing waiter. Everyone at the table saw my motion. The waiter looked at me, and quickly snapped his head away... blatantly playing the 'if I didn't see him, I don't have to deal with him' card. Fail. He came back around a few minutes later. I made the request. If eye rolls were audible, this one was deafening. A few minutes later, a menu, water, and place setting were brought. Oh how hard it must have been to fetch!
Orders are placed, and food is delivered quickly. The french onion soup was delightfully mediocre. Salty broth with a crouton already so sopped with liquid it was just a mealy sponge beneath a slab of cheap mozz. Boo. Fresh warm bread was delivered, and ultimately it was the best thing I had personally at the meal.
My entree, the coconut shrimp was about what you'd expect from TGIFridays. Overcooked, overly sweet, with runny-loose cocktail sauce. I might add that coconut shrimp shouldn't go with cocktail sauce. Even Joe's Crab Shack knows that. Oh well. The double baked potato and limp broccoli on the plate were both about as good as the shrimp. My wife ordered shrimp and scallops over fettuccine. The portion was immense, but per her experience, not good enough to doggy bag home. That is to say we took it home, but if it gets eaten, I'll eat my hat.
My father ordered Pork Chops, and seemed to have had a much better experience. Far be it from me to have intelligently ordered a grilled item from a place obviously specializing in chops and steaks. Truly, that is my bad. But that being said, getting the food I did, at the price they charge? Not worth the money. I would sooner suggest any other number of chop houses around the Orland/Tinley area. Ultimately Bonfire shoots for a 'high end' suburban restaurant, but ends up pitching on par with it's lesser cousins. If I am forced to return (cause face it, we south suburbanites don't have the plethora of options city-folk do...), I'm opting for something a bit more steaky.
OK this is the first time I have reviewed a place but have always wanted to.
Been in the restaurant business all my life.
The wait staff worked very hard and they were really nice.
The chef needs to know when food is good and bad, the burger meat was old and overcooked. 2 of us at the meal had a burger, one didn't eat it at all, I tried it,, really one of the worst I have had.
Salad is nothing special.
Would never go back unless kitchen nightmares did a revamp.
I came here with my husband on Saturday afternoon (the 14th) for my mother-in-law's birthday. Â I made sure to study both menus online before we got there, since I wasn't exactly sure if we would be eating lunch, or dinner. Â After reading the reviews here, I knew I needed to be careful about what I ordered. Also, I do have a shellfish allergy, and I noticed they served a LOT of seafood, so of course I had to let the server know in case anyone else in the restaurant ordered something with shellfish. When I let her know, she seemed confused - surely she knows they DO serve shellfish...I would like to not end up in a hospital because a piece of shrimp somehow ended up on my sandwich (which, thankfully...it did not).
Anyway, when we arrived at around 3 pm, it was dead. Maybe a few people but that was it. I expected way more business approaching the early dinner hours, especially on a Saturday.
Our server seemed, how can I put it.....robotic. She had no personality whatsoever, and it really didn't set the tone for the rest of my Bonfire experience. I noticed she was the ONLY server working.
For appetizers everyone ordered the spinach artichoke dip and saganaki. I hated the saganaki.....it was way too salty and greasy for my taste. The spinach artichoke dip was okay at best, I thought they should have provided more pita chips. Â They gave us a small loaf of freshly baked bread (I assumed it was fresh, it was quite warm), but that was excellent.
We were all given an option for soup or salad, and I got the salad since I wasn't sure how the cream of chicken soup would taste. Turns out, I should've gotten the soup. My salad was terrible. No dark leafy greens to be found. ONE slice of tomato and a few pieces of cheese, or carrots, I can't remember. I tried hubby's soup, and it was delicious. I almost wanted to switch. It didn't look like they took any care it preparing the salad, almost as if it was thrown together in a bag and plopped on a plate.
Everyone ordered something different. My husband ordered the cedar plank salmon, and I managed to find something I could eat, which was the Vegetable Bistro sandwich - it was served on a tomato focaccia bread, with provolone, zucchini, green peppers and onions. Â I thought it tasted pretty good, but I would've liked more variety in the garden veggies. It came with steak fries, with no seasoning whatsoever, I had to put on my own salt and pepper, which really isn't a big deal.
My husband really didn't like the salmon. He said it didn't taste like....anything, really. The sauce covered up the lack of any salmon flavor in the fish. All it came with was a tiny potato and a 1/4 piece of corn on the cob.
We never saw the server again until it was time for the check. She never came around to see how we were doing, even when we were the only group in the restaurant. Even the "manager" - I saw her walk past us once, and never stopped by to see how everything was. Â In any establishment that considers themselves to be "high end", I've always seen the manager floating around, checking on his/her customers. Not once did I see her do this. Â I'm glad nothing was wrong with our meals, because if it was...I'm afraid we wouldn't have gotten any help in getting it fixed.
This is the second time in six months I've been to a sub-par "steakhouse", and even though the place gives you the feeling it's high-end, the quality of the food seemed like it didn't reflect that. If it weren't for my m-i-l's birthday, I would never have thought to try this place. If you're in the area and looking for somewhere nice to have lunch or dinner, just keep driving, trust me.
I have been here a few times and the food was good, except for my last visit. It was terrible. I ordered the hamburger. The color, flavor and texture wasn't right. First off I ordered it without the cheese and mushrooms. It stated on the menu 100% sirloin. Â It did not have the texture of sirloin or ground beef that I have eaten before. It was way over seasoned, black in color and chewy like rubber. What a waste of $10. The service could have been better too. They were looking at cars on the computer. This is a bad sign for Bonfire. It's going "downhill".
Review Source:My wife, mom and I had a good dinner here. My prime rib was nicely done and tasty as was the wife's salmon and moms chick picatta. I was a little put off w an extra charge on the drink .75 because I had it straight-up. So because they couldn't load the drink w ice rather than alcohol they charge more. Not that the drink was $4-5 but was $7 then add .75 ?
Review Source:Let me start with the good. I went here for my aunt's birthday. Â The ambiance of this place is great. It provided a nice and quiet atmosphere and the drinks were very good. The young lady that took care of us was very pleasant.
I gave this place two stars because I ordered the Filet Mignon medium well. When it came out.. it 1. looked like a pot roast, and 2. was well done most of the way through. I let the waitress know and she took my food to the back. Everyone at my table was eating some enjoying their food and some not (apparently the pork chops were very bland).
About 5 minutes later someone from the kitchen brings the steak back out to me with about 2 other people in tow and places the plate in front of me... he then asks me to cut completely into the steak and I did. It had a little pink there. He then asked if I wanted it and I told him I didn't because my steak looked as if someone stuck their finger right in the middle of it. This man then snatches the plate and storms back into the kitchen. I sit for TEN MINUTES before someone comes back out and asks me if I wanted something else instead. I declined because at this point I don't want to spend anymore money there and my party would be done by the time my food came out.
I was so utterly disappointed with this place. They aren't cheap and I would appreciate it if their product reflected such.
Hubs took me here to help me unwind after a rather stressful project and it was a homerun for relaxation. Â
We both had Prime Rib, two different cuts, his was a bit too rare for him, but hey with Prime Rib, rare is good to me. Â We also had their amazing Crab Cakes with jumbo lump crab and a fantastic remoulade to go along with. Â
The relaxation came in the form of 'bottomless' glasses of wine. Â No Bonfire doesn't offer 'bottomless' wine, that was something my Husband was treating me to. :)
Dinner for 2 with much needed drinks for 1 was about 115 including tip. Not too bad.
Had our belated Vday celebration on a thursday night. Â Not too crowded, and nice and quiet instead of loud ruckus bumbling everywhere.
Our waitress was average. Â She was nice. Â
The food was amazing. Â Then again, I've only eaten the one dish. Â I ordered the "Almond crusted Orange Roughy with a Hazelnut sauce"..... Â Like unicorns, narwhals, christmas and happiness in my mouth! Â I absolutely loved it! Â I never order fish because I'm nervous it's going to be absolutely horrific, cause let's face it, it's fish... Â But this one was great! Â Kinda sad it was only a special, because I would definitely plan on going back there if they had that.
The bf ordered a half-slab and a steak fillet. Â He said he liked it (he's not much for words, this is why I love him so I can do most of the talking).
OH, and we ordered fried zucchini as an appetizer, and I think they friend like 4 whole ones for us. Â The platter was HUGE! Â Luckily we were able to take a bunch home for later (also very yummy!)
All in all, it was a good experience
Disclaimer: I ate here on Christmas Eve and I was not paying. I had been here before, over four years ago, and remember liking it but don't recall enough that I can really base my rating on it.
After several years of dining at 94 West on Christmas Eve with my husband and his family, we switched things up this year with a trip to Bonfire.
The first, small annoyance was some confusion over seating. The grandparents hadn't arrived yet and they seemed unwilling to seat us right away, but dithered about and eventually did. Then there weren't enough chairs at the table, so the whole long table had to be moved out away from the wall to add chairs at each end.
Overall, service was adequate but not what you would expect from a higher-end, classy steakhouse type place. (OK, so this isn't Super Uber Fancy Steakhouse, but still.) They were all sort of discombobulated and not really "with it".
I was eager to try something that sounded totally delicious: lamb loin, rubbed in olive oil and greek spices. I ordered it medium.
I've mostly eaten lamb in Indian dishes (off the bone) and gyros/burgers, so I really don't know if it's always difficult to tell where the bone itself ends and the meat begins, but it was a teeny bit disappointing. The flavor was *awesome*, the marinade was super good, but most of the meat was medium-well and well -- I guess I should have ordered it medium-rare? Definitely overcooked and somewhat tough/fatty at points.
The garlic mashed that came with were super-tasty, as was the complimentary bread and the salad.
Overall, the fam seemed pretty happy with their food, my husband enjoyed his ribs and I saw a lot of happy steak eaters. I wish my lamb had been a little better, cooked properly it would've been close to amazing.
This isn't someplace we'd generally come on our own anyway, but if I were to recommend it I would say definitely don't come on a super-busy holiday eve.
This place was ok. Â I've been there 3 times, and have ordered the filet all 3 times and have been underwhelmed each time I order it. Â 2 of my dining companions ordered pasta and they were happy. Â Someone else ordered the ribs and he seemed to enjoy them. Â We had some kind of flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which was super rich, to the point that we each couldn't take more than a bite. Â Overpriced for being a suburban restaurant.
Review Source:I'm trying to find out what I missed looking at some of the other reviews. Nice ambiance, has the feel of a good steakhouse. Unfortunately the food didn't deliver on that promise, very lackluster interpretations on both mains & sides. Sure, you can eat here, but for that kind of money you're better off at the steakhouses in the Oak Brook area or downtown ... worth the drive.
Review Source:We have been loyal customers since Bonfire opened. Â Unfortunatley, they have lost thier desire to remain open. Â
Each of the past four visits have resulted in disaster. Â In November, we were rushed through our meal because the kitchen wanted to go home early. Â In December, we walked in at 8:30 and were told the restraunt was already closed... the door says 10pm. Â They changed thier mind and stayed open, but the bar tender closed up everything, shut off the TV and turned off all the lights before we finished our dinner. Â In January, we were waived off before we walked in the door with a rude... "we're closed!" Â Tonight, we again arrived well before posted closing at 8:40 pm. Â We know the menu well enough we can order the wine and meal without a menu. Â We ordered and told the bar tender we wanted the meal to come out staggered so we could talk and enjoy the meal. Â Instead, all the food showed up in less than 15 minutes with an appology that they were closing early due to low business. Â After complaining to the managment, we were left with one alternative. Â We simply paid our bill and walked out. Â As I said at the beginning it is clear they have lost the meaning of "customer service" and we will not be back.
beautiful restaurant, not so beautiful service/staff.
last fathers day
1) my fam made reservations for din, but we still had to wait to be seated
2) all other tables got free bread, we didnt...
3) waiters/waitresses have inability to memorize daily specials. Have been here probably about 10 times with my family and they always have to read the specials off of a nasty Post-It note
4) ordered a dish that sounded amazing: Cajun fettuccine with Andouille sausage and jumbo shrimp. VERY excited for the SAUSAGE, but they ONLY GAVE ME 2 TINY SLICES. i think the dish must have been pre-made and sitting in a pot on the stove or something, and the scooper had holes or something, so all the sausages fell out.
5) all desserts are subpar and like they have been sitting in a freezer
We made reservations for 7 pm on a Saturday evening.  We arrived about 5 minutes early but were not seated until almost 7:25.  The bar seats were all taken and there were quite a few people waiting, but it seemed most of them were walk-ins.  I feel if they accept a reservation for a given time, they should seat you within ten minutes of that time.  That was strike one.  The decor is very nice.  We were seated and our waiter introduced himself.  He immediately asked for our drink order, and I said I would be ordering wine, but had not yet looked at the wine list.  He took my husband's drink order and then asked me again if I was ready.  Talk about rushing someone!  The wine list for wines by the glass was very unimpressive, better list for bottles.  Our food orders were taken and  our salads and bread arrived in about 10 minutes, kind of a long time to wait for bread and salad.  Then, approximately 3 minutes after getting our salads, our entrees arrived.  Again, feeling very rushed.  My husband ordered the porterhouse steak, which he said was good but not great.  I ordered the smaller cut of prime rib, which was overdone, pretty much flavorless, and without question, the toughest prime rib I've ever had.  Very disappointing experience. Â
P.S. I agree with a previous reviewer that it would be awfully nice if people in this area would just dress a little nicer to match the restaurant. Â This isn't a fast-food place, so something other than shabby jeans, old gym shoes and faded tee shirts would be refreshing and would really up the dining experience for everyone. Â I'm not saying suits and ties, folks, just a little effort!
My husband and I have eaten here about 6 times in the last few months since we moved to the area. Â All visits have had good food and drinks up until the last visit. My hsuband and I have always ordered the filet mignon and an appetizer and martini's. The last time we were there the filet was horrible. My husbands tasted like it had no flavor what-so-ever and mine just flat out tasted like bad meat. We told the waiter who had the owner come over. (note she is always there, the mid 40's blonde with the long frizzy hair). She kept on asking me what was wrong with the steak and I just kept telling her ' it didnt taste good' and she insisted on being more specific so I told her' it tastes bad - like the steak was rancid!" She stood up boldy and stated " I take offense to that!" It ended up it turned into a confrontation. I said if you dont believe me, taste it yourself - she replied NO, I am not going to do that. In the end it took another 15 more minutes for new steaks which I think its uncalled for. Â IN the end she came to remove our plates and I told her nicely of all the times I came in here and I never printed their coupons off the internet (CHECK THEIR WEBSITE THEY ARE THERE) and each bill has always been at least 80-100 bucks and I have been made to feel bad that the steak didnt taste good like the one's before. Ididnt come into dine and insult her, I was looking for a good meal. I told her we will never return again. This didnt seem to bother her. THINK TWICE about dining here, if u have a problem with the food, they will give you a hard time AND will not COMP one thing back to you as an apology!
Review Source:My husband and I had a gift certificate for here and thought we would give it a go. Â I made reservations yesterday (Saturday) at 8:00pm, we showed up at about 7:45pm, but were not seated until about 20 after 8. Â Lockport HS did have their graduation, so I understand it was crowded, but upon looking at their reservation book, most were walk-ins. Â We had a few drinks at the bar as we waited.
The food was good. Â I had their cream of broccoli soup, which was nice, and the bread that they brought to the table was good. Â We both had steaks, which were tasty and cooked well. Â My porterhouse was a little gristly, but my husbands filet mignon was a great cut of meat. Â The double baked potato is a bit orange, but is tasty.
Our server was very nice and very attentive.
Overall, the food was good. Â I would go back....just not on graduation night!
I am trying to write this review beside the fact that I was extremely tired when we ate here last night. We have eaten here several times before. I do like the dark atmosphere inside. It is very nice on the inside. The service was good, and the prices are a little higher than a chain restaurant but somewhat lower than Jack Gibbons. The people that own Bonfire also own Georgetown in New Lenox. We had a very nice meal with a very good house Red Zin for $56. We both came from work on Friday night. Since it is a little nicer here, I really wish people would take a moment to show up for dinner in clothes other than t-shirts and jeans. I can understand going to the typical Greek owned 24 hour get breakfast anytime place, but I wish people would dress better than slobs when going out. I am not being snobby, but when you see a guy in a tank top with his hairy armpits exposed, nothing says trailer trash like that.
Review Source:Six adults... two children at my first visit. Â Food was good, but not the best I've ever had. Â Waiter was pleasant, but nothing noteworthy. Â The cream of chicken soup was called "too salty" by others. Â I agreed. Â But, it's soup... not the end of the world. Â We had to ask for the honey mustard sauce for the chicken sandwich. Â No biggie... but hard to rate a place 5 stars when they don't knock it out of the park. Â Main dish was really good, but not 5 start worthy. Â My lemon sorbet for desert, served in a lemon, was so frozen I had to let it sit while everyone else finished their deserts. Â Again, not the end of the world. Â For what it's trying to be, I'd say it's just average.
Review Source:Really good! Â We went here to celebrate my mother's birthday. Â The food and service were both excellent, and the wine list was impressive. Â The owners are Greek, and there were a number of Greek-inspired items on the menu, which we love. Â The Wood Oven Baked Goat Cheese appetizer was particularly delicious.
Review Source:We were invited to a birthday luncheon on a Sunday so we schleped out to Homer Glen. When we got there the parking lot was packed. I thought that was a good sign! When part of our party got there they were given the lunch menu, at 2:30 the lunch menus were taken away and dinner menus were given. Â I called on Saturday and was told lunch was served until 3:00p.m. on Sunday. The waitress seemed to be in a real hurry during the entire time she was waited on our table. The problem was there was a packed parking lot, but only a few tables occupied in the restaurant. And our waitress was one of two or three other waitresses who had maybe five tables to share. At our table everyone commented about the full parking lot and empty restaurant. Where were all those other people?
The specials were rattled off without any pricing information by the waitress and it was tough to remember what they were. I felt like I was at a diner instead of a white table cloth place.
The scoop on this place was that the prime rib was fantastic. Three of the guests ordered prime rib. The birthday person received the end piece of the prime rib, which all the prime rib eaters at the table said is never suppose to be plated, It was sent back and another piece was brought. The people eating the prime rib were disappointed, the meat was tough, the cuts seemed a little small and the flavor was not that great. . One person ordered the king cut which was the same size as a queen.
I ordered the veal Marsala, which after ordering I was told they were out of. I was given the menu a second time and it seemed like a few seconds passed when the waitress asked if i was ready to order. I hadn't even looked at the menu. I wouldn't mind, but being rushed in a deserted restaurant is rude. I recalled a special of a half slab of ribs with three shrimp, so I opted for that. The ribs were fine, not the best I'd ever had, but they were edible, which I thought was pretty good by this point since the prime rib people were unhappy. The shrimp were very good.
Two people ordered the cedar planked salmon. The report on the salmon was good. It looked good as well. 1 portion was huge and the other portion was small. .A soup or salad comes with all the entrees, plus a starch and vegetable, which was broccoli, but you can get that at a lot of places for much less. Also there was a double baked potato which a few of us ordered, it was bright orange- the waitress told us it was cheddar cheese. It was o.k. but really funky maybe they were manufactured frozen potatoes?
The desserts were 1 chocolate layer cake, 3 flavors of ice cream, 3 flavors of sorbet and a home made creme burlee, I thought the desserts could have been a little more varied and interesting. A slice of cake was ordered for the birthday celebrant and each of use cut off a piece of it - I'm glad I didn't order one for myself. The cake was cold, straight from the fridge, and it was super dry. The frosting was good.
During the time we were there we had to ask for refills on the ice tea and diet soda, which is not something you should have to do at a restaurant which seems be trying to be higher end. We left around 5:00 p.m. and the place seemed to be filling up. There were more waiters who began their shift while we were there and they seemed better equipped at handing their job.
Overall, I thought it was overpriced for the quality you received. I would not go out of my way to go here. I'm giving 2 stars because the food was edible and that is worth 2 stars.
If the food is good I always give it high marks no matter what. Until now. The place is real nice, inside and out. They have outdoor seating and it was spotless. But as soon as you walk in, the little things just start to creep up on you. Like not letting your wife greet people when she just found out you were screwing the help. And the servers all wearing black shirts with ties. We had a women serving us and she looked straight out of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Lighting the candle when you get to the table. What century am I in? There was one thing on the menu that did not fit with anything else. Saganaki! Where'd that come from. Can I get a gyros with that. I had the chicken tortilla soup? When did I cross the boarder? It was very good though. My friend had the ceasar salad. About that time I realized that I didn't have any forks? Â I had the lake perch and it was very lite and flakey. They gave me 3 huge pieces. My friend had the filet and shrimp. I thought the shrimp tasted a little fishy. The steak was tender. The key lime cheese cake was great. The german chocolate cake seemed old. It was very dry and the frosting looked a little dusty. The service was spotty at best. This place has pretty good food. It has all the makings for a fine restaurant. But it's just trying to be to many things at once.
