Breakfast here is amazing. the french toast done tahitian style was delicious. fresh baked bread dipping in some coconut sauce with coconut flakes and an assortment of fresh fruits. the housemade whipped cream was so sweet and the cocnut sauce on the french toast was amazing. the bread is thicker cut, fluffy, soft, and oh so good!! seriously one of the best french toast dishes i have had in california. a must-try if you are in dana point. cappachino was served with a lot a froth.
Review Source:Service was excellent from start to finish, food was delicious, inventive and flavorful. Not a place for those that crave simple dishes. Their patio is dog friendly and very peaceful. Loved their Brettone omelette and their French Toast would please even picky eaters. Five stars all the way.
Review Source:Adorable and cozy eatery located on the south side one way road of PCH in Dana Point.
Big fan of the patio, enjoyed my breakfast with the warmth of the sun.
Had the eggs benedict with sausage and roasted tomatoes. Sinfully delicious. They added the right touch of homemade hollandaise which didn't over drench my freshly toasted and fluffy bread. A very filling meal, the extra add of $2.99 for a scoop of roasted potatoes might have not been needed but boy were those potatoes super crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Don't understand how they get the crispness without overlooking it. Rad!
Tea and coffee felt a bit overcharged for $4 each, especially for the type of tea I was given. STASH is sub par and generic, and one of the cheapest teas. Expected something a little more out of this place which has cafe in their name, but I might just be a tea snob, for good reasons though. ;)
Service was consistent and nice, surprisingly not that busy for a Saturday morning around 10:30-11. Met the owner who was tending to tables as well, he was very genuine and very French!
Great place for breakfast with flare.
This is by far my favorite restaurant for breakfast and lunch in Orange County. The smoked salmon is my daughter's favorite. It's like Christmas each time we tell her we are going here for breakfast. The management and servers are extremely accommodating and helpful. We have been going here for the past 15 years and will continue to go here as long as it is open. We take all friends and family here that we want to impress!!!!
Review Source:This place is cute but it is way over-priced and the food is overrated. Â Watch out for the snooty manager, and whatever you do ~ don't catch him in a bad mood. If you make any special request or attempt any friendly small talk, he may just bite your head off! Â The waitresses are more amicable but this place would be well-advised to keep the manager out of sight in the back of the restaurant far from unsuspecting customers! Not a pleasant experience. Â There are lots of friendlier choices in Dana Point if you are looking for a great brunch or breakfast.
Review Source:Cute little cafe, semi long wait, smiling guests on the patio, seemed promising.
Things were still fine by the time we placed our order, got my latte, and the wait began. We waited 35 minutes for our food. It arrived and it looked fantastic, I got the puff pastry with spinach, scrambled eggs, and GOAT cheese, a lot of goat cheese and it was mixed with the eggs so it gave this sort of grainy, chalky texture. But those potatoes. AMAZING!
The portions are ridiculously huge perfect to share. Presentation was beautiful, service was fine, restaurant was very clean, but the overall experience just didn't wow me. Once we received the bill, $53.00 after tip.... for brunch?? seriously? Â a sandwich, a latte, and some eggs. Wow! No need to get back there anytime soon.
The only thing authentically French about this place is the cliche rude French owner/management. Being a local to the area, I have been here a few times, always with very average food experiences. I came back with a few people for lunch. Our first server (a girl) was initially pleasant, and we asked her if we could order custom omelets, to which she replied, "of course." When the food arrived, 2 of the omelets had the wrong ingredients. I sent my plate back, asking for the right version, and when it arrived a second time, it was wrong again. At this point, I addressed the issue with the owner/manager (his name is Pascal). He was rude and unapolegetic, pompously declaring that he "serves over 300 people a day" and that I would have had better luck ordering an item listed on the menu. He also said he was not the one cooking, and therefore not responsible for what was set on the customer's table (in what restaurant is the management not responsible for quality and service?!) I was shocked and insulted by this man's nasty and despicable attitude towards a paying customer that I completely lost my appetite. At this point, a new waiter (another very unpleasant man) started serving our table. As he was collecting my friend's barely eaten plate from the table, she remarked being unsatisfied with her own omelet, and he sarcastically responded, "oh great" and walked away. A few minutes later, without asking if we wanted coffee or anything else, he came over and threw a non-itemized receipt onto the table, over a greasy butter wrapper, and again briskly and rudely walked away. Needless to say.... no tip.
Judging by some of the other reviews of this restaurant, the poor service and even poorer management here is normal. I only hope that this review will deter future patrons from giving any business to this place.

***In response to the owner's laughable response below: Pascal, perhaps you should devote half as much energy into properly serving your customers as you do trolling your Yelp reviews. I'm literally laughing right now at how unprofessional you are, and the fact that you have completely fabricated lies to try to make your restaurant look better. My review was honest and factual, and now you are trying to salvage your restaurant's reputation by attacking my character and falsely accusing me of animal abuse?! Perhaps you should consider a career in Politics.... Furthermore, John and his wife are my family, you moron, and they remarked that despite some decent meals there, they have often found you to be unpleasant over the years. John's wife even remarked that she wasn't even surprised by your behavior, and supported my Yelp review. You seem to love to boast about how many satisfied customers you have (as if this excuses you or eliminates your unhappy customers), not to mention that it is a childish business tactic. And yet, you seem to ignore the fact that you have had your fair share of unhappy patrons, judging by the other low-star reviews of your restaurant. It also seems I am not the only reviewer who has described the manager and service as "rude."
Do you even realize how your foul response to my review makes you look to prospective customers? Apparently, future customers can look forward to being personally insulted if they say anything negative about your restaurant. Congratulations, you've managed to make yourself, your restaurant, and your business skills look even more deplorable and unprofessional than before! Good riddance.
Looking for breakfast one morning and stumbled upon this cute cafe in Dana Point. Service, Presentation, Taste and Quality are so so good. The owner is really sweet as well. I recommend any of the Les Oeufs Brouilles! And I love the selection of music playing as that is very important to me... !! I have never been to Paris but for a moment that I was there, I felt the romance, charm and exquisite taste!
Review Source:Food was delicious and portions were more than we expected. When we walked into this restaurant, it was pretty empty and menu prices were $12-$16/dish. We were hungry, so we decided to stay and order. We were pleasantly surprised when the food came and the portions were more than enough. We had an eggs benedict and a french toast. The french toast was very sweet and pretty much like a dessert (real fruit and real cream). The service was fine. I saw some negative ratings on Yelp about the service, but our server was nice enough (not overly nice or bubbly), but she was efficient and she kept our coffee and waters full, so we were very happy. The only reason this restaurant doesn't get a 5 star rating is because it would be nice if I could have ordered a small piece of french toast with some eggs or meat and there was only 1 restroom for the whole place.
Review Source:The french toast here I will never forget!!!!!
I was visiting for a wedding in Dana Point and this place was a highlight.... we went twice for a visit that was two days.
Venue: Â (3/4) It is a very casual restaurant and seems to be a mix of locals and tourists. Â It's not pretentious and feels warm and welcoming. Â There is outdoors and indoors seating.
Food: (5/5) The Tahiti French Toast was perfect!!!!!! Â I don't really tend to like sweet and usually prefer savory... but this was perfection. Â My friend ate off my plate too. Â The crepes were a bit soggy... that is what my friend commented on his dish.
Service: (5/5) Never had to waive down a waiter/ress... no complaints
We stopped at Bonjour Cafe because of their sign claiming to have the "Best Breakfast and Lunch". We had breakfast, and we were definitely not disappointed. My son had the Tahiti French Toast (topped with fresh tropical fruit and coconut) and he said it was the best French toast he had ever eaten. My omelette was made perfectly and the fruit cup that accompanied it was luscious and all fresh. Even the coffee was excellent! Bonjour Cafe will definitely be a  "must stop" whenever we're in Dana Point.
Review Source:I liked this place. Can't say I loved it or it was anything spectacular, but liked it. It was clean, the food was good, didnt have a wait at all since the weather wasn't the greatest but its not something I absolutely crave and need to go back for when I think  of breakfast or brunch. Â
It gets a bit pricey but then again, I understand, its in Dana Point and on the coast so overhead. I don't know of any other French cafe/bakeries nearby. Id love to give it a 10 Â but maybe I'll revisit and try a few other things in the future.
This was one of the best surprises I discovered in the past few months! It just happened we both needed to eat and when we yelped it there were two good places in the area. It's hard to go wrong with French so we just went with it.
I ordered the les oeufs brouilles au saumon fume (no, I don't know French). It was basically scrambled eggs with salmon mixed in on a brioche. Absolutely wonderful especially since I was only 10% sure what I actually ordered! ;) Â And if that wasn't enough we had the creme eclair which was not nearly as sweet or overwhelming as I thought it would be. It was very good although I'd like to know how it compares with other crepes they offer.
On another trip I also had the poached egg with the ham and it was great as well. As you would guess the bread is almost irresistible but make sure to get it with the home made jam. The pear mimosas are to die for and I'm not even a mimosa fan. The place itself is quaint and everyone is super friendly and helpful. The one drawback is the price- I think the bill is about 2x or 3x more than I normally pay for breakfast but it's worth trying at least once!
Spending a weekend out of our normal five-mile radius, we were looking for a good spot for Sunday A.M. breakfast and Yelped this place.
We had to wait outside a few minutes because of the crowd, but the weather was pleasant so that wasn't bad. Â The hostess was cheerful and welcoming. Â But by the time we left, both the RFL and I were looking at other diners' plates and saying "now that's what we should have gotten."
The waitress promptly (maybe a little too promptly? Â She appeared unhappy when we weren't ready to order two minutes after we'd been seated) took our orders and quickly delivered the food. Â I couldn't shake the feeling we somehow didn't live up to her standards. Â I had come in planning to order the french toast with fresh fruit, but instead got the crepe with Swiss cheese, smoked ham and eggs. Â The flavors did not mesh well - the smoked ham tasted like it had been treated with something to make it taste vaguely smoked and then shoved into a plastic package. Â Anyone who grew up eating Smithfield-style smoked ham would have had the same complaint.
The cheese was mediocre, and the crepe, while properly cooked, was a desert crepe and added an annoying sweetness to the savory items. Â We asked the owner about it, and he dismissed us with a Gallic shrug and the explanation the crepe was supposed to contrast with the savory items. Â Didn't work for me...or for the RFL, who tried it and was unimpressed. Â And she loves French cooking.
Her eggs Benedict with Andouille sausage also left us wanting. Â The sausage, which should have been crisp, meaty and spicy, was cut into tiny pieces and tasted like a mushy hot dog. Â And not a Vienna Beef hot dog, either, but more like the ones you used to get in school lunches. Â Or at 7-11.
So I will tell you the french toast looked as delicious as it does in its close-ups here, and since I resisted the urge to beg some from the people two tables over, we might try this place again just for that. Â On the other hand, there's bound to be somewhere else in the neighborhood with better Sunday morning eats.
I really wanted to like this place since I'm a very big fan of French culture. We walked in and got seated immediately on a Sunday brunch afternoon. The service was okay. I barely saw my server beside order my food and getting the check.
They serve their water in small glass cups and when I asked for a refill... the man (who I think was the owner) gave us water with no ice. Â So I was stuck drinking lukewarm tap water and the server never came back to refill our drinks. Not impressed so far.
I ordered the eggs benedict with spinach and mushroom. Boy I was so excited to order it. Â Not. Â The eggs were just fine but the spinach and mushroom were TERRIBLE. Â I'm not usually a picky eater but these mushrooms were not fresh at all and tasted like they came from a can. It grossed me out so much that I just picked out all the mushrooms (there were a lot of them in there) and just set them aside from the plate.
I'd come and give this place a second chance but will have to order something else.
After threatening to give away half our table (two in the party were circling looking for parking -- because there's no valet), we had a semi-adequate meal (large portions, decent food, fairly priced, mediocre ambiance, mediocre service, unfriendly wait staff), and then were told "only 2 cards per table" (as in, they wouldn't split the bill 4 ways, like every other restaurant in the fucking world is willing to do). Over it. Wouldn't come back. Screw 'em.
Review Source:Good food, lousy service and extremely RUDE employees. Â We waited for 45 minutes on Mother's Day, with our parents and new son (sleeping in a stroller). Â We were seated toward the rear of the restaurant, which was fine because there was plenty of space for our baby. Â However, once my Dad tried to wheel the stroller in they told us NO, ABSOLUTELY NO STROLLERS! Â We all looked at each other incredulously, as they:
1) Knew we had a stroller the whole time, this was not a surprise.
2) There is no where to possibly store a stroller, Bonjour is right on a busy street.
3) We waited for 45 minutes, now we're forced to leave.
Then, as my Dad tried to turn the stroller around to leave the restaurant, a busboy (whom we were later told was the owner)jammed his foot in front of the wheel, got right in my Dad's face, and sternly told him: NO, JUST BACK IT UP. Â That may have been the rudest thing I've ever witnessed by the staff of a restaurant. Â We got up and walked out to try to find another restaurant at short notice. Â It's a shame but they lost four customers for good that day, and we will have to find another breakfast restaurant to go to from now on. Â Au revoir Bonjour Cafe! Â Bad service cannot/should not be tolerated, especially with so many new, hungry restaurants that will go above and beyond to provide great service and make you feel welcome.
YUM!
This is a cute little cafe with outdoor patio seating that is dog friendly. Whoop! We had a great breakfast here this weekend with the pooch.
The menu stated that the french toast is the "best is O.C.". Â OK, you talked me into it. I ordered it and it's right up there with the fablousness that I turn out in my own kitchen (he..he.). It's light and fluffy with a great mango sauce and sprinkled with lots of pretty sliced fruit. I would have been a little more heavy handed with the sauce however.
My hubs has an omelet which he said was good. I tasted his potatoes which had a good flavor. They were a little crispy for my liking but this is exactly the way he likes his potatoes.
It was a perfect sunny morning to sit out on the patio and enjoy some yummy food. The service was quick and both the server and the girl at the front  gate were very friendly.
Yes, we will be returning here.
I have been wanting to try Bonjour Cafe for the longest time. Finally made it down this past weekend. It's a quaint "oc-euro" style cafe where the patio is much bigger than indoors. A nice outdoor patio none the less though. I particular like their open door policy on canines, but I left my fur kid at home that day.
I wanted no distractions from the awesome food they offered. Everything on the menu sounded decadent and yummy. I ended up getting the Tahiti French Toast which was spectacular. Not only was it three times the size of a normal french toast dish, but it was covered with sweet tropical fruit, coconut, mango puree and two scoops of ice cream... And the brioche bread OMG; light, fluffy, creamy, buttery, I could have had the bread sans all the toppings. Needless to say this dish is not meant to be eaten solo, but rather shared with maybe 2, 3 or even 4 other people. I highly highly recommend ordering this dish.
The only downside is that they are only open for breakfast and lunch.
A small but cozy French restaurant located in Dana Point where I love stopping by whenever I head down towards SD. A perfect place to enjoy a nice lunch on the weekend (or on the weekday).
I love the fact that the food is simple, yet prepared perfectly.
For a starter, the French Onion soup is quite tasty. For the main, I would recommend La Saumon Classic (breakfast) or the Le Steak Parisien (Lunch) for the meat-eaters like myself.
First, the 2 stars comes from the service, not the food.
The food is great. Very rich French style breakfast dishes. Lots of butter, cheese, cream and goodness.
The service is terrible though. It takes FOREVER to get your food, my order typically isn't correct, but I deal with it because I rather eat something than nothing.
Servers aren't very attentive. The Manager / Host is someone who can't be bothered or something. There is a rule about no cell phones here, which I actually like, but I've seen this host on his cell phone a few times.
Again, great food, but be prepared for some not-so-great service.
Zut alors! Â La cafe est incroyable! Â
I received this recommendation from my classmate and friend, Leni, who got the recommendation from our classmate and friend, Philip. Â Since I first ate here, I come back every so often. Â I like to sit in the patio area since it feels more open. Â Inside feels a bit cramped to me, but because this place is busy. Â The food is exactly what I expected: French Goodness. Â The service is good and funny to me, since it seems like some of the servers are French, which gives me an opportunity to speak very bad French to them.
The inside is cramped, which is why I like to sit outside. Â There are a few heaters in the patio, but in the mornings, it's so nice to sit outside to feel the ocean air. Â The noise level is average with quiet conversations abound, but the feel is very cafe/bistro like. Â I enjoy the environment.
The food is French and everyone knows, I love french food.  Never a shortage of butter and richness.  I looked at the menu, but couldn't find what I usually order.  I believe I order the Oeufs brouillés aux asperges.  Their hollandaise sauce is pretty dang good and the eggs and asperegus is stuffed inside a hollow biscuit.  It's an appropriate size portion for breakfast.  Not sure what kind of coffee they serve (I wouldn't doubt if it was Kean), but I love drinking it.
And since I love drinking coffee, it is fortunate that the servers come back to top me off. Â I also try my French on them, to which they gave me the look of, go back to school and learn some more. Â Of course, it's in a playful way. Â
I find myself making excuses to go to Dana Point because of this restaurant.
So After my near-death-experience climbing up Thousand Step Beach (HAHA :(  HAHA ) we stopped by here to refuel.  I got a close spot on the street and we walked over to the cafe.  we asked for patio seating and got seated maybe a few steps behind the hostess table. VERY cramped & tiny  but "COZY" could be used as well...
we first got bread and the baguette was alright  nothing amazing...at that point i would have rubbed butter on sand and ate it soo....
Ben got some crazzzy ginormous ham sandwich (ham sandwich is downplaying it tremendously ...i didnt eat it so i cant really replay what was it it but it just looked amazing, like all the food there ) and I got the tahiti french toast. Â I was deciding between the crepes and sandwiches but decided on the french toast when I saw they were recognized for their french toast.
their food comes out looking amazing! and tastes pretty fabulous as well. Â it had a mango& something marmalade and it came with 2 thick slices of "french toast" ( i quote because it's not how normal french toast looks...but then again maybe my whole life ive been eatting fake french toast and i dont know =x) they were fluffy and thick and covered with coconut shavings plus fruit was scattered along the plate...pineapple, strawberry, bananas, apples and grapes galore. along side that was fresh whip creme which i couldnt have to much of but it was mighty tasty.
the bill for a brunch was  a tad pricey at around $40 but for the experience it was worth it...plus i needed it badly lol :)
PS. 1 single bathroom unisex =x still i give it to them for being extra clean
Just had lunch at Bonjour, and that was my first mistake.. Â My second mistake was that I ordered the "LE CROISSANT PARIGO" which is basically a croissant sandwich with chicken breast, spinach, melted cheese (swiss, I think) and it comes with a mix green. Â I upgraded to a caesar which was good.
This place is a breakfast place. Â Stick with the crepes, soups, and such and you probably will not go wrong. Â I was just being a dumb*** because it was 1pm and I felt I should order a lunch item. Â On the other hand, I had a bite of someone's EGGS BENEDICT W/ PROSCIUTTO and that rocked.
FYI. Â Chicken Breast was dry, croissant was burnt, cheese was hardened and not melted.
Order breakfast items ya'll.
This place is probably worth 4-stars, but because of my experience I have to give it 3-stars.
This cute little cafe promises authentic french food and a cozy atmosphere.
It, unfortunately, doesn't really deliver. Nothing was terrible, it was all just "okay".
I can't really speak to the authenticity of the food, but I wasn't really won over. This review is for lunch, so perhaps the rave reviews about breakfast are well-warranted. However, the chicken baguette I had was uninspired. The baguette itself wasn't even very good. I love good bread (who doesn't, right?) and my baguette was not very fresh. Disappointing. My friend's albacore salad wasn't all that tasty either, which is really all I heard from the moment our food came out of the kitchen.
It was a cold day in OC today so we sat inside, which was a mistake. Something needs to be done about the acoustics in this place. I could hear everyone's conversations. Not only that, it sounded like I was sitting with my ear next to the mouth of every other person in the restaurant. Were the restaurant actually a sound studio of some sort, I suppose this would be a feature. Unfortunately, it doesn't make for a pleasant lunching experience.
The one saving grace was the french onion soup, which is phenomenal. Gruyere cheese, not-overpowering-yet-still-flavorful broth, and plenty of onions. Perfect.
I also appreciated the notices at the bottom of the menu reminding customers not to talk on cell-phones inside the restaurant and advising ahead-of-time that no more than 2 credit cards per table are accepted (I hate running into that after-the-fact in a large group).
The brunch/breakfast menu looked enticing, so perhaps I'll give this place another shot at some point. At $20+ per person, unfortunately, I just can't recommend Bonjour Cafe for lunch.
We came to Bonjour Cafe after we read great reviews on Yelp. So we had high expectations. Â The crash came oh too fast, and I must question Yelpers who gave this place anything above a 3-star review.
We came in and were promptly seated in this fairly small cafe. We sat in the patio. The tables were uncomfortably small, and the chairs not much more comfortable. We ordered coffee but quickly learned that they didn't have soy milk or non-fat milk. Not a big deal but surprising for a place in Southern California. The coffee was ok, but not great, and felt too milky.
We then ordered Tahitian French Toast and egg white omelette with Brie cheese and spinach. By the look of dishes in neighboring tables, we knew that the portions are huge. Oh they were! Now for the taste test. The omelette was ok. It came with sauteed potatoes that were somewhat greasy. We ate half of it. Â The Tahitian French Toast was made of several huge portion of bread topped with pineapple, grapes, green apples, kiwis, and a few dollop of whip cream. The pineapple was canned! C'mon folks...canned fruit when fresh is available locally? The dish was unlike any French Toast we ever had (not in a good way). It was ok, but nothing great. We ate some of it and asked for our check.
We noticed that a couple by us left without touching their Eggs Benedict. I guess they felt as we did: large quantity won't compensate for poor quality and taste. We prefer quality, taste, and care to large portions.
So if you are in the mood for huge portions, but care less for quality and taste, then Bonjour Cafe is your place. I have been to France many times, and this cafe offers nothing that is remotely authentic French. It was a disappointing experience after such high hopes. Cafe Bonjour should be renamed to Cafe Adieu (last goodbye).
Perfect spot for a casual lunch on a gloomy rainy OC day! Â This cafe is opened until 3:00p.m. and they serve typical bistro style food. Â Everything we were served was excellent!
Started off with a Poire Champagne which was made with a fresh, flavorful  pureed pear compote.  For my entree, I ordered the French Onion Soup that was baked smothered with beautiful gruyere that was baked to a perfect bubbly light brown on the surface!  Divine!  Also had the Caesar Salad which was super cold, fresh, not over dressed and was accented with yummy buttery croutons.
My gfriend ordered the Grilled Vegetable Quiche that was also divine and probably as highly caloric as my French Onion Soup. Â Her quiche came with a side of Caesar as well.
With the service spot on, I will gladly return in a heartbeat the next time I'm in OC. Â Hopefully on a nice sunny day where I could sit outside on the patio.
Gotta give another bourgeois shout out to Bonjour Cafe since I've been coming here about once a month for the last year or so and can fully vouch for their quality and top notch service. I most often have father - daughter dates here and we kick it off with double cappuccinos, which is one of the most fantastic cappuccinos I've had in Southern California. It's quite massive - about the size of your head if you have a pin head like me. When it's a mom-dad-Anna day then we get a glass of wine or a fresh juice mimosas. My mom brings the party.
They serve breakfast all day long so my dad and I always share the french toast  *must have*  with either a salad or omelet. The Tahitian French Toast encrusted with shredded coconut and served with a mango puree is really good, but I'd like more coconut and tropical flava to it. The French Toast Suzette, also a winner, has a very light grand mariner touch. The homemade whipped cream, fruit purees, and thick brioche bread are the best parts of all their french toasts.
The Omelet de Provence is one of my favorites -eggplant, sun dried tomatoes and kalamata olives tucked inside a perfect lightly golden omelet. It's simple and that's perfectly fine. Sometimes restaurants get too jiggy with their omlete combinations, but Bonjour stays loyal to the classics. The accompanying potatoes are consistently textbook: super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Merci, Bonjour!
