I've been to this place about a dozen times. Â A few of the meetup groups I belong to hold monthly happy hours here, and I play euchre here once in a while. Â The place is hit or miss on service. Â Sometimes you get a great waitress, and other times, you end up going up to the bar to order a drink because she is nowhere to be found.
Food is average at best, and overpriced. Â If you get the nachos on their appetizer menu, with steak and avacado, it will cost around $18...for nachos. Â I just had their buffalo chicken sliders. Â The buns were stale the chicken decent, the fries cold. Â My friend ordered a cheeseburger. Â The waitress delivered it, with the top bun off, showing the blackened-chared cheese. Â She was actually handing this to my friend - and I told her to return it that it is burnt cheese sitting on top. Â The waitress took it back, slapped on another piece of cheese over the burnt cheese and brought it back out.
I'll continue to go here when there are group outings, but wouldn't recommend coming here just to eat.
My fiance, and a couple of friends of ours, went here on a Saturday afternoon, before going to catch a matinee of "The Hobbit"...because we're all nerds.
I haven't been here in a while, and wanted to try something different, so I suggested Boston to everyone. Â Since no one other than me had been here, they were all for it...
To try something new.
We sat down and went to order food.
My buddy Chuck's wife, Melody, asked for a "sweet tea"
The waitress said "We don't have sweet tea. Â We have unsweetened and raspberry'" which was fine with the wife...it was probably better for her to have it unsweetened anyway.
Then I ordered my burger, which I asked for medium.
"We serve our burgers medium-well."
To me, that was odd. Â Most places serve them that way, unless the customer asks for it rarer. Â I've never been to a place where it's like "Ehhhhhh, no, customer-boy. Â You can't do that here."
Then our food came and it all looked good. Â I ordered the Jalapeno-Onion Burger. Â My fiance had the Chicken Caesar Salad. Â Chuck had Pulled Pork and I forgot what Melody had.
Melody  asked for mayo for her fries...she must be part Canadian.
"Sure, that'll be $.50 more."
She didn't think anything of it, but I was like "SERIOUSLY?! Â It's extra for freakin' MAYO!!"
Anyway, whatever. Â
We ate our food and I guess the beef part of the burger isn't the only thing that they medium-well on the sammich. Â The onions were burned and there wasn't a whole lot of flavor on the burger...other than the heat that came from the jalapenos, it was pretty bland.
And the waitress didn't seem too interested in helping us, though we were genuinely nice to hear, hoping we could get her to smile.
I wasn't too pleased with my visit here...not at all. Â It may be a long time before I come back, but I will say this:
It's STILL better than The Purple Onion...
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is amazing and so is the service. I think I have tried everything on the menu and haven't been disappointed. But I have to say my favorite part is the service. While a couple other reviews had problems, I never had. The servers were attentive but not in your face. My glass was never empty and if I needed anything they were visible instead of doing the disappearing act that some waiters or waitresses do. The nachos are really good and so is the burger.
Review Source:I was doing some shopping with my mom and decided to stop here for lunch. I had never been here before, but we had a coupon so we decided to try it. The atmosphere inside was cozy. It had very nice decor. We ordered two entrees and each ordered a soup. The food was okay. Not great, but not awful. I ordered the nachos. They weren't tortilla chips, they were baked flour tortillas, which made them kind of dry. So, I asked for more sour cream for them to combat some of the dryness only to find out that it would be .50 cents (so I passed on that). We finished our meal and got the bill. That's where the poor experience started. When we handed the server our coupon she said it didn't apply to what we ordered. We ordered two entrees and two soups (the coupon was for buy one entree get one free, which is misleading because on the coupon it says the maximum discount is $5 and there isn't a lunch entree on their menu less than $5.99). Our server informed us that since we ordered lunch specials for $5.99 it didn't count. It never said anywhere on the menu that these specials were excluded from any promotion. Then I pointed out that each of the soups we ordered were $5.19 and not discounted, but she said that didn't count either. We called over a manager who brushed us off and said that there was nothing she could do. It's really not about the price. It's about the fact that both the server and the manager wouldn't do anything about it, which is VERY POOR customer service. For $5 they have lost two customers. I will NOT be returning here again. I can get the same quality food and friendlier device at other restaurants who will do what it takes to make the customer happy.
Review Source:I'm all for giving second chances, but three strikes and you're out. Â Terrible, terrible food...3 times in a row. Â I love food, and I am not a picky person. Â Give me a burger and a beer and I'm a happy girl. Â This was the first an only place where I actually could not eat the food. Â Once I got a chicken sandwich that had a little bit of chicken and a big chunk of fat. Â Another time I got a pizza that literally had a small sprinkling of cheese on it, and the dough was so stale it literally tasted like cardboard. Â To top it off, the food is over-priced. Â I don't want to see any place go under, but it really seems like no one here is trying.
Review Source:If you are on a low sodium diet, this salt lick isn't for you! I had the tortellini with sausage and I couldn't choke it down. My tongue was swelling up with every bite? Now I ordered a Sierra Mist and when she brought it out it tasted like soda water? So when she came back I told her about it and she said theat she would tell the manager and walked away! What about the crap that I'm drinking now? When she came back she asked if I wanted another one. Yes, I said, with a little flavor this time. The next one was the same and this time I gave it back to her. WTH! If that was all I would have called it a day and moved on without another review. But we had a table of 10 on a Friday night. The bar was not that busy. But for some reason we had to find our waitress everytime we wanted a drink. And when two more people showed up, they ordered their drinks from the bar and we had to bring our plates to the wait station to get them off the table. Not sure what happened, but this is the last straw for me!
Review Source:After our disappointing experience at Odyssey Fun Farm we were starving. We aren't familiar with the area so we saw Boston's and TGI Fridays in a little shopping center near the highway. TGI Fridays had a huge line...therefore Bostons won be default. Before Saturday we had never heard of it.
Anywho...the place is nice inside. Wasn't crowded at all so we were seated right away. Our server was very nice (even though she called my son a girl...what is the deal with everyone assuming only girls have long hair!!!)
We had a hard time deciding but went with an appetizer platter that contained ravioli, pepperoni pizza, and wings. We ordered loaded fries with it. Figured that way we could have a little taste of everything.Total fat fest.
The fries were nothing special at all....tiny pieces of bacon, tomato, & melted cheese. They were served with ranch dressing...I prefer sour cream which was 50 cents. To me that was ridiculous. Not very flavorful.
Now for the platter....the pizza tasted like a Jack's frozen pizza, the raviloi was stuffed with some spicy orange liquidy stuff....thank god the wings were decent. Highlight of the meal....$5 margarita...despite not tasting much tequill at all. whomp whomp.
We def won't be going back.
I really like Boston's. Each time I have come here I have sat on the bar side of the restraunt and it is allways easy to get a table. The staff has allways been very attentive and polite each time I have come here.
The food is really good. Recently I tried the Asian Glazed Salmon upon the waitresses suggestion of it. It was very good, blew the salmon from other chain restraunts like chili's or applebees away.
They also allways have really good drink specials here like the 4.50 32 ounce domestic beers.
Food: 4 stars. Every time I go I forget just how yumms the pizza here is. I end up ordering something else and then noshing on my dining companion's pie. Today, I scored the twisted mac n cheese while my mom ordered a pizza covered in meat and peppers. Both were delicious!
Service: 1 star
We came in at lunchtime in the middle of the week. It didn't take long to be seated but our server had a Lurch looking guy following her. Was he training? Had she had a lot complaints? We don't know but he just lurked behind her every move and frankly it was creepy at best. Â There was no instruction on how to pay and we ended up spending an extra 10 minutes waiting for our server to come and take our check. I posit why can't you pay at the front? They have a cash register there!
They honestly need to improve the service aspect in the dining room.
I find some of the outstanding reviews to be rather suspect. All of the ones mentioning "Seated right away" especially. Yes, you can get seated right away here because it is almost ALWAYS empty. How it stays in business is anyone's guess. The manager on duty the night of my visit seemed to keep looking at the packed Fridays across the lot, longingly wishing his place were as busy.
I ended up here on a recent Saturday night, and it was dead. We got the fried green beans as an appetizer, and they were okay, but a poor knock off of TGI Friday's. I had the flat iron steak and broccoli as my entree, and the broccoli was the best part of the meal. The steak had an odd texture and almost felt like it had a film on it as if it was about to go bad. This and the unusual taste were definitely not an encouragement to come back.
This was my first time here. The place is clean and nice. I liked the fact the bar was separate from the dining area. They also have a nice area outside. I went for the BBQ Blue Burger and is was good stuff. I could have had another. Service was a bit slow but overall good. Watching as some food was going to other tables the pizza looked real good. Much better than TGIF. I will return.
Review Source:I am surprised by the good reviews for this place. Â I have tried it twice for lunch with co-workers. Â Both were horrible. Â The first time I had the lunch special pasta. Â The sauce was a weird slimy substance. Â Yuck. Â The second time I decided to try the pizza; again the individual lunch special. Â I ordered the vegetarian that came with a choice of 3 veggies: I ordered garlic, spinach, and tomatoes. Â The server asked: sliced or diced tomatoes to which I responded diced. Â The pizza came with about 5 pounds of fresh spinach on it (not even slightly cooked, just large stacks of spinach under cheese), no garlic, and SLICED tomatoes. Â The tomato thing wouldn't be that big of a deal if the rest had even been remotely right. Â To top it off, the sauce on the pizza is just awful. Â I can't even begin to describe the strange taste it has.
You couldn't get me back to this place kicking and screaming. Â Today was the final chance I gave them and they failed miserably. Â Gourmet pizza?? Me thinks not.
Gourmet Pizza??? Oh yeah! Unique pizza offerings and a great layout.
In the mood for an out of the ordinary pizza experience Boston's is the place to be. Restaurant and bar sections. Great for family or some drinks and dinner with friends. They also have a separate section in the bar for private parties and outdoor dining. My recommendation is the Florentine: fresh spinach, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes and roasted garlic topped with basil and mozzarella & Parmesan cheeses. Melt in your mouth Pizza perfection! Their salads and pastas are amazing as well. Check out their website before you go because the decisions will stump you!
Excellent service and tons of great food!
I'm gonna tell you up front, I can only give this place 3 stars because the waiter did not bring 2 year old daughter a birthday complimentary ANYTHING and because the diablo pasta dish I ordered was not as delicious as I know if could have been had the chef only decided to add more than red pepper flakes!!!!
We went mid day and it was beautiful out so we opted for outside seating. Â The decor was really nice for a sports bar. The week day specials were pretty awesome. My hubby had the $5 individual barbecue pizza and beef skewers wrapped in bacon (Beware, you have to ask for well done!). Â My daughter had these chicken bites with fries (she ate the fries : ) Â Overall, I would say that I would go back but I wouldn't drive to this location just for this restaurant. Â As another yelper mentioned, it's better than the Friday's etc.
I joined a rather large group of friends here for dinner/drinks, about 20 of us. Â We were seated outside. Â When I arrived our waitstaff had about 10 tables pushed together and cold water at every place setting. Â Our waitstaff was friendly and fast. Â I was amazed by the variety on the menu. Â This is not your run of the mill pizza but the choices really more of a gourmet selection. Â I was not disappointed by the choices or the food quality. Â
When it was time to pay, much to my surprise, our waitstaff seperated all of our bills AND gave us a discount for having such a large group. Â So instead of adding the mandatory 18 or 20% tip, we each were able to tip accordingly and honestly, these folks deserved more than the 18% which they got.
I would definitely return and recommend.
Went here on a Saturday night, 6:30ish, party of 5, sat in the bar area. Nice ambiance and decor. The bar area was not too loud with the TVs or music, which was really refreshing.
Food was pretty good. I had a side salad, which was a pretty decent size. We also had a spinach pizza and a sausage pizza. My favorite was the spinach pizza! Very good sauce! 2 others in our party had a spinach salad with cranberries, candied walnuts or pecans, which looked very tasty and they loved it. One thing that surprised me, was that for it not being a "side spinach salad", the size was on the small side for paying $5 and some change.
The main reason why I can only give this 3 stars is mostly because of our waitress (Laurie, I believe). I don't know if she was new or what. We wanted the pizza with the whole wheat crust, but she wasn't sure if it came in a large size pizza. Any question she was asked, she seemed not to know for sure.
I'd go back and try some other things off their huge menu...maybe not sit in the bar again, but try out the main restaurant area.
We've been here a couple times. We like the food just fine, we like even better not having to wait for a table on a Friday or Saturday night. Service has been good both times, no disasters like other reviewers have reported. It's standard chain restaurant fare but pretty good for a Friday night out in the boring ol' south suburbs. Beats the crap out of Fridays, Chilis, blah blah blah. What are you going to do when you live out here? You have to make do with what you got.
Review Source:This is a new favorite for me. I ordered Chicken Quesadillas with guacamole - excellent! I have been looking for quesadillas with onion and a good guacamole and salsa - there's was perfect. Â The salsa was more like a taco sauce - not chunky, but delicious just the same. Kids Spaghetti and Meatballs - the meat/bolognese sauce was excellent, a little spicy - I will definitely order it on pasta for myself in the future. Â I also ordered the Jambalaya pasta, which was just ok - a little too spicy for my tastes. I did get a chance to taste their various meats in the pasta, and all were good - the sausage, the shrimp, and the chicken - tender and not overcooked or rubbery or fatty. I highly recommend this place, and can't wait to try the pizza and other pastas and the desserts. I love the variety on their menu.
Review Source:I live right by Bostons. Â Tonight was probably my third visit. Â I had a coupon for a free appetizer with the purchase of 2 entrees. Â I gave the serve the coupon when we ordered. Â He comes back with the appetizer and then says the coupon won't work because we ordered 2 Cesar salads. Â The salads were the meal size. Â After getting out salad, we did not see our server again. Â I would have liked more dressing and mybreadstick was not even cooked. Â But i did not even have anyone to complain to because he never came back until the end. Â The salad was not that great. Â I also overheard the other table complaining about cold food to another server. It was about 6 p.m. on a Friday and the place was dead.
Review Source:Strange times at Boston's...went here yesterday to cash in on the free appetizer coupon I received for signing up for their email club on their website. Â Decided to pull a stool up to the bar (there was no one else at the bar) and ordered a Hacker Schorr on tap. Â To my horror and surprise the bartender (female, did not get a name) dumped a bunch of friggin salt in the damn beer. Â I drink my Hacker with a lemon - I felt like Mr. F*cking Ed sucking on a salt lick. Â I was with my boyfriend who can't stand a scene, so I opted not to say anything (and did not order another), and he was quite pleased with his Jack & Coke and watching the Cubs game. Â We ordered the boneless buffalo wings which were just dry chicken chunks with no flavor to be discerned. Â The bar itself was pretty nice, plenty of tvs and good tunes. Â The place gets 2 stars only because the drinks were reasonably priced.
Review Source:First impression was great. Â The decor was very chic modern and the menu had our mouths watering. Â In fact, we could not decide what to get so we settled on splitting two items: the Italian Trio (Grilled Chicken Marsala, Fettuccini Alfredo, and our Traditional Lasagna) and the BBQ Chicken Pizza. Â The Pizza was fantastic. Â Very well done. Â However, each component of the Italian Trio seemed to fall flat. Â There was nothing particularly favorful about the chicken or the fettuccini and the lasagna seemed to be an overzellous attempt at using spicey meat. Â Generally, I feel that this highlighted dish did not deliver. Â My son (3 yrs) ordered the mac&cheese from the kids menu. Â When it arrived, I immediately noticed it looked dry but he apparently enjoyed it anyway.
I will go back for the different pizza selections but will certainly stay clear at their attempts of finer Italian cuisine.
