After a quick hike on the matt davis trail we find ourselves at breakers cafe. Probably because its the only place to eat on the strip aside from the market.

Inside had a beach town feeling yet clean and modern. In general, i think the prices are kinda high for a place like this but the selection was great.

I ordered the clam chowder soup and tuna melt. Since they didnt have small portions i ended up paying for 2 full entree sizes. The food was good. I dont know if I was just starving from the hike, but i was really impressed. It def had more of a home cooked meal feeling if anything.

The chowder had large chunks of tuna and top with olive oil (nice touch). The tuna melt reminds me of  how mama use to do it. I enjoyed all of it. I ended up spending $30 including tip which seems pretty high for lunch but i loved it.

This is the best place that I will never go back to, that I have ever been. The reason I will never go back? The value, or lack thereof. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich for over $13, and what I was expecting was something extraordinary. What I got was half a grilled cheese sandwich, a very good half but still, a half, and goopy at that, along with a small cup of tomato soup, again a very delicious small cup, but a small cup nonetheless, and a small side salad that was anything but delicious. The side salad was more like rotten leftovers.

The Organic Beet Salad on the other hand was delicious and quite a good portion, but still just a salad, and not worth $12.

The fact that this place charges $12 for a Tuna Melt that they make using canned Tuna just pissed me off, and I really had a hard time getting past that, even though I didn't order it.

Another thing about this place that rubbed me the wrong way was that the servers here do not take your order, and ours never introduced himself or helped us decide on what to order, yet the check came with tip percentage breakdowns, with the lowest one being 15%. Better even was the fact that the second check (after the CC was run) had those same breakdowns, however they were inflated and inaccurate and the amount displayed for 15% was actually closer to 18%.

The bottom line for me is this: If I pay $30 for LUNCH for two people at a place where you have to pour your own water and place your own order, we should both leave full and satisfied, and neither of us did. Check out the snack bar around the corner and get some fish and chips instead.

3 Stars. It's absolutely not a 5 star place. Bad coffee, fried foods, nothing terribly fresh, typical diner foods. It earns 3 stars due to it's proximity to the beach, and the fact that there aren't many other restaurants in the area. They also have a comfortable seating area here too, with couches, and a gas fireplace. So 3 stars is sufficient.

The employees are your typical hourly wage diner workers, not the most amazingly helpful people, and sometimes brash and whatnot, but they get their job done.

They close early though. 3pm. Just getting comfortable and they closed. Kind of crazy, really.

Perhaps it was the 8 mile hike before that made this restaurant taste so good....but I don't think so.

First of all if you ever happen to hike the matt davis trail and park across from the fire dept....this place is half a block away. Hike, grab a meal and drive home....I like easy.

The breakers is a really chill casual restaurant. If you want a cup of coffee you can hang out on the right in a living room type of setup with fireplace, couches,  and news papers.... really nice.

The four of us were hungry from a major hike and the breakers food did not disappoint. I had the three piggies omelet and  a virgin bloody Mary ( yeah you try and drive back to sf on those roads after a real bloody Mary!).  The three pigs is an omelet filled with bacon, ham, chorizo and cheddar...really good.Nice buttery toast and house potatoes.....all very good. Bloody Mary was crazy good....spicy with peppers, horseradish, and jalapenos....love the long sprig of veggies....probably the best virgin Mary I have ever had.

The others had chicken tacos....looked good, cobb salad ...again they really liked it, and my bud had the carne asada burrito....this would have done the mission proud it was large and good.

Service was super fast and efficient. I also loved eating outside

My sister and I took my mom here for a late mother's day lunch after surfing in Bolinas.    We sat outside, where unfortunately the table cloths and chairs left much to be desired in the cleanliness department.  My "grilled veggie panini" was unlike any panini I have ever experienced, and not in a good way.  The bread was plain old sandwich bread that had been coated with butter on both sides and toasted.  Inside was a disappointing little heap of grilled bell peppers, onions and tomatoes.  It was so bizarre and not at all what I look for in a panini.
The sis had the crunchy chopped salad, which is advertised to have mixed vegetables, avocado, lettuce, beans and feta.  There were no vegetables to be seen in the sea of iceburg lettuce.  She was very disappointed :(

Breakers Café is top notch! It is the kind of place you drive out of your way to go to. I've been twice and each time it has been excellent. There are so many tasty items on the menu it's tough to decide. The nutella and banana Panini was great! Clam chowder was extremely flavorful. Family owned and operated and extremely cozy. Go here!!!

As we took a trip up to the Point Reyes Peninsula/Area and Drakes Bay we headed back into the city and came across this quaint little town (Stinson Beach) off Hwy  1.  We decided to give it a go, and found it to be really nice

    The food was good:
I had a pastrami sandwich I believe (if I recall) and my wife had the chicken and waffles.  Our friend had a salad (dont recall which one) but all the food was just the right sized portion for what we paid.
Price point was not overly expensive, however it wasn't what I would consider on the cheap side either.
Atmosphere was nice and aside from the cool breeze coming off the mountain adjacent, it was a great day to be outside and dine (they did have heat lamps out there which was nice (as well as umbrellas to shield from the sun).

All in all it was a good pit-stop and I would visit them again...perhaps this time I would try something different and try to remember what I had! :/

Confusing payment system-- stand in line to order at the counter, sit, eat food served at your table, then stand in line again to pay.

I ordered the chicken & waffles & it was ok....the chicken lacked flavor. My husband ordered chicken sandwich & he enjoyed his lunch. Great outdoor patio. Food came out quickly.

After eating only sausages, canned chicken breasts wrapped in tortilla and chips during a camping trip, nothing tastes better than delicious brunch by the beach. Breaker's Cafe in Stinson Beach is a delight in a small, homey town, with a diverse menu of typical breakfast foods along with a Mexican twist.

After looking the menu up and down a couple of times (the biggest brunch debate is always SALTY vs. SAVORY), I decided on ordering the shrimp quesadilla. However, being someone who has food ADD and likes to literally try everything, I am so glad I went with a couple of other friends whose dishes I could sample for a tasty treat.

The shrimp quesadilla was one of the best that I have ever tasted. There is nothing like having fresh seafood (we were right by a beach) cooked and sweetened to perfection in a toasty yet crunchy tortilla. The warm and gooey monterey and cheddar cheese melted everything together very nicely. The juiciness  and succulence of the shrimp was utterly incredible - one bite and I felt like I was in seafood heaven. The bits of tomato and peas were also nice touches inside of the tortille - giving it a nice depth of flavor. Of course, being someone who is obsessed with Mexican food (I am from SoCal), I loved the tasty guacamole added to the whole ensemble

This next dish is one that my friend ordered that I absolutely loved - it was a close second to the shrimp quesadilla that I ordered. This is the smoked salmon omelette with a side of light toaste and butter. Who ever thought that smoked salmon would ever blend will with eggs? However, this dish works together pretty nicely. Personally I am a big fan of smoked salmon, and since the eggs were not too salty or overly flavored, the salmon gave it a nice, natural zest. The smoked salmon, of course, was smooth, soft and chewy to the right degree. The potatoes were also surprisingly delicious - not too oily, but flavored with light garlic and rosemary.

This dish is the chorizo with 2 sunny side up eggs. This is the dish pre-massacre - post-massacre, the eggs were runny and mixed in with the chorizo - which sounds rather odd, but actually tastes sooooo delicious. Personally, sunny side up eggs are one of my favorites because of the yolk that runs so smoothly and gently across any dish. It blends especially well with the rich and deep flavor of the chorizo sausage. While pretty hearty and flavorful, the chorizo gets a nice complement from the fresh salsa and greens on top, as well as the Spanish rice on the side.

Finally, the New England clam chowder. Clam chowder is one of my types of soup and starter to a meal. At first, I was skeptical because I saw the green paste on top of the soup, but turns out it mixes in well with the soup. I still don't know what it was, but it tasted good. This clam chowder wasn't the best, but nothing to complain about either. The ratio of the material to soup was pretty good - I hate it when clam chowder either is too watery and has too much liquid, or it is just loaded with potatoes. It has quite a bit of clam in it, which I usually hunt for because I just love the chewiness of clams. This clam chowder did its job alright - it was creamy and pleasing to the taste buds.

I would definitely recommend Breaker's Cafe to anyone who wants to eat a decent meal while camping in San Francisco. While it may be a little bit out of the way, I believe it would a trip worth taking because not only is the food not processed, but also profoundly delicious!

    When in Stinson...

    Breakfast all day? Check.

    Sunny (often), outdoor seating? Check.

    Huevos Rancheros (my go-to)? Check.

Burgers, salads, breakfast burritos, soup... reasonable prices.

Plenty of healthy options. Salmon salad is straight forward, but quite good.
    Burger was disappointing.
Omelettes have been okay, occasionally less so, but the potatoes they come with are darn tasty and crisped to my liking.
Requests for things like 'no cheese' or 'dry toast' have always been accommodated.
Be sure to check the daily specials.

Nothing spectacular, but then again, not a ton of options around here, so if you're hungry, it's worth checking out.

Food was OK, once it got to us. OMG! We waited 1.5 hours for our lunch!!!! And it wasn't gourmet food people, it was BURGERS, FRIES and TACOS. 1.5 hours? Seriously???? Yes it was a busy afternoon but if you can't service a full house, than you have a serious issue. Very disappointing. Made us miss our walk in Muir Woods. Not great....

WAU - great place for a pit-stop if you have NO plans of eating anything for the next 2 days. The servings are huge AND tasty. The atmosphere is SUPER cozy, so it's definately worth it - but stick to the Americano coffee with out milk.

This is admittedly one of those single-issue reviews, and I would love to be proven wrong, but my sour view of this place is mostly due to the fact that they seem to be selling Costco madeleines and brownie bites. The former comes in little plastic bags, the latter looks exactly like what you find in those plastic tins, down to the shape, and either way they seem entirely pre-fab. I ended up buying a $10 set of both because I had to use their bathroom, had no cash, and ran up against their minimum charge for credit cards. Maybe their food is great but I just feel like if you can't find a bakery to supply you, you should skip the "baked goods" altogether.

There's no such thing as a 5 star cafe near the beach. Really? yes really.  But these guys came pretty close. Great fresh salad. Fresh salmon. My kids got burritos that were enough for lunch the other half for dinner. Good stop along the way to Stinson Beach. Desert was the best! Champagne on the beach right after lunch just minutes away.

Enjoyed a late breakfast here on a busy Sunday. Service was excellent, the staff is super friendly.  Food was excellent, big portions too. It's a little on the spendy side, but you're in Stinson... so I think you have to expect that. It's a big menu - don't rush your decison!

I have been going to restaurants in this building for, well, too many years to mention  and am not sure if the ownership has changed over the years but this time was one of the best experiences ever and I just wanted to shout out the excellent food and friendly service.

We came on a sunny Sunday Monday for lunch so the crowd was thin, unlike weekend crowds.
Right away I noticed  the free and unrestricted bathroom access, a nice benefit to hikers coming down from Pantoll. Also iced water was set up on the counter ready for folks to help themselves. Nice, welcoming features. The main room is open, airy and tables far enough apart to be very comfortable. Sitting on the deck is an option as well.

We ordered at the counter and the service person could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Due to my condiment aversion, I often need to  order special preparation and the server was exceedingly understanding and helpful about my order - and the food came out just as I'd ordered it. We wanted to pay for  "to-go" coffees for after lunch when we paid our check  and the cashier sweetly suggested we get coffee with lunch, and then take a free refill to go. What a great idea! Thanks, we did.

Our food came out quickly and prepared as requested. I had a burger and the meat was honestly very tasty with both a healthy serving of bacon  and cheese topping the burger and a hefty amount of well done fries. Yum.

I watched our cashier greet and assist several other groups, including a German family  who was unsure of the ordering  process, and he was calm, friendly and helpful to all - I truly was impressed.

The food was fantastic and the tables were comfortable.  They were wonderfully accommodating for our friends' dogs, allowing them to stay under the table on the patio with us.  The people that had chicken burritos or quesadeas commented on the great tastes that worked nicely together.  I had the tasty french toast of sourdough with strawberries.  We all enjoyed getting brownie bites or muffins for a relaxing end of a nice meal.

First of all, Stinson Beach is not a culinary destination. There are very limited options near the beach and they tend to be overpriced.  That being said, this is one of the lesser pricey places and the food wasn't bad.  You order from the counter and they bring your food to your table. Nice casual option for families.

The chicken burrito is HUGE! Covered in chili verde sauce, the burrito was surprisingly good as well. Really liked the moist chunks of chicken breast (and not the fatty subpar quality you find elsewhere).

The blackened salmon sandwich was also pretty food. Portions are pretty sizable so keep that in mind when ordering.

Samuel, If you are going to claim to state the "facts" get them right. You weren't there so I think it's fair to say that everything you stated is here-say. One fact you stated is indeed true - it was Mother's Day. Aside from that:
    - There were there tables available and one family in the line when the incident occurred
    - Jose clearly did not recognize that we were still working on our second meal there (my friend was still chewing on her last bite of lunch and I still had a cappachino in my cup that was hot)
    - My husband as appalled by Jose's behavior and called him and asshole in a volume that only our table heard. He did not drop the f-bomb.

None of this changes the facts that your customer service stinks and we will never be back. The sad thing is - we use to be regulars here. In fact, if you go to your Facebook page, the only photo posted is that of my 2 month old daughter sitting in your restaurant back in February.

Good luck with your business. with your practices, you won't be around long. Heck, even stellar restaurants in the Bay Area are shutting their doors in this economy - and they are good to their customers.

What a cute little cafe! After arriving at Stinson Beach, me and DD walked around looking for some brunch! Since we had my dog, we looked for an outdoor patio and came across Breakers Cafe, which seemed to be a pretty popular joint!

Every time I'm close to a beach - I crave seafood! So I ordered the Shrimp Omelet. I got a huge omelet stuffed with shrimp, tomatoes, avocados, and infused with tons of melted mozzarella cheese. I also got potatoes and toast on the side. Everyone was well seasoned and delicious! They were very generous with the shrimp!

DD ordered the Cobb Salad which was topped with TONS of blue cheese, chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, and hard boiled eggs. I guess the only thing different about this salad compared to a classic Cobb is that there was no bacon (chicken instead) and they served the salad with a thousand island dressing. Either way, we were satisfied!

An order and find-your-own-seat kind of joint, me and my dog quickly found a place in the back patio. Food came out quickly and service was prompt and friendly. No wonder this place was packed!

After a morning of hiking in Muir Woods and then walking along Stinson Beach, the food at Breakers Cafe was just what we needed.  Both the special scramble and the breakfast enchilada were fantastic.  And the service was good too.  definitely the place to go for a relaxed but hearty breakfast

Friendliness and organization make this one of the best choices in town and sitting outside on a warm sunny day is worth the price of admission. The quality of food is good and everything is fresh. There is no reason not to come but its a long way from being a 5 star.

She had a Shrimp quesadilla. $12.00.  The shrimp was really fresh with just the right amount of cheese, corn and other ingredients. There is nothing special about it but it was good.

I choose a bacon dijon cheese burger with sauteed onions. $ 12.00. Its a tasty burger. The onions were perfect, the bacon nice and thick with a slightly toasted bun. The fries were done to perfection.

We also had guacamole and chips with two Cokes bringing the total to $40.

We took the Shoreline Highway on our way home from Agate Beach. This place is just right along it in Stinson Beach. We stopped by here to have breakfast. I needed my coffee and was just desperate to get one anywhere. Yet, I found this place on Yelp and looks promising for a breakfast place.

So I got my coffee, regular nothing fancy. I just couldn't wait to sip it first before looking on the menu. I saw their corned beef harsh and ordered it. It had chunks of corned beef, chopped up celery, bell pepper, potatoes an over easy egg on top (my request) and garnished with fresh cilantro! Almost like a mexican version of corned beef hash and was surprisingly good. It came with some toasts.

Hmm, 9 dollars for a sliced bagel,  3 slices of tomato, and 2 slices of avocado all just  thrown into a box, do your own assembly style.   That's what made up the breakfast avocado-tomato sandwich to go here here. No condiments, unless you count the piece of cheese on one side of the box.
Fine if you're a starving tourist or heading over to the incredibly lovely Stinson beach or a hungry hiker coming back from one of the great hikes here, or  if you just want to sit down enjoy the beach town cutesiness ( don't get me wrong, I adore cutesiness) , but other than that, the place is  typical tourist --overpriced, so-so service  ( the sand-dollar across the street has way friendlier people) , and they don't take credit cards for anything less than 10 dollars.

Took the ride up to Mount Tamalpais, down the back side to Bolinas and ended up here, hungry and a bit dizzy from all of the twists and turns. We had the chicken and waffles, along with the chicken fried steak and eggs. Nothing phenomenal, but good sized portions and greasy enough to paradoxically settle the stomach butterflies.

To the couple in front of us who ordered enough food for an army and then was upset by the bill - um, order less next time? Keep track of what you order? Think before you open your mouth? Cause it was kinda ugly when you did.

So this is an update mainly in response to Melissa K comment. It is simply not true that baby's are unwelcome. I have been to Breakers many a time and twice with my best friend and her baby. The staff was super helpful moving umbrellas to make sure the little dude got shade. The little man even has a onesie from the owners place across the street, not sure how much more baby friendly you get for not being a gymboree.

BTW, I am now in love with the burgers here. I think about them at 2am sometimes and wish there was a Breakers in Oakland.

How about a Breakers in Jack London Square?

This is definitely the place to go for breakfast and brunch, but I'd think twice about coming back for lunch. It's not the kind of place to go to if you're craving fish and chips and clam chowder. Instead, the menu is loaded with Mexican dishes. I did not go wrong with a burger and crinkle cut fries, which were made well. The burrito was a wet burrito with weak salsa poured on top. It was big and well worth the dollar, but contained white rice and loads of thin sour cream. The carne asada was thin and dicey. It did not compare to other carne asada burritos, dry or wet. The quesadilla looked great and came with a small side salad which contained thin slices of jicama even. It looked very fresh. The chile verde was savoury and the pork was soft. They have a mad bloody mary, which I regret not trying. There are some good, standard Californian beers on tap.

Prices aren't exactly cheap, but it's The outdoor seating is great on warm days and there's an oyster bar out there too. The restrooms aren't terribly clean, but acceptable. The wifi is free and perhaps more reliable than cell phone service. The password chages daily, but is freely shown on a chalkboard inside. The decor is homey and just what you'd imagine a cozy little beach town cafe would be.

A comfortable and delightful stop along the coastal highway. We were treated with superb customer service and made to feel right at home. The atmosphere was great, very relaxed. The food came in a very timely manner and boy was it good! I thoroughly enjoyed the oatmeal and a spinach, mushroom, tomato egg scramble with crunchy potato cubes. YUM! My only complaint, though it doesn't really count as an actual complaint, is that they have TOO MANY great meal options! It was so hard to choose! Strong coffee. Refreshing ice tea.

After slowly pedalling a loaded touring bike up the hills of Highway 1 I needed a break. The patio looked appealing, if just so I could keep an eye on my bike, and the menu looked to be a nice mix, vaguely Mexican, and a nice assortment of breakfast foods.

I sat down to a breakfast burrito and was incredibly impressed, not only because a breakfast burrito might be the greatest way to fuel an adventure ever, but also because it was remarkably well done. One of the joys of a breakfast burrito is that it does such a good job of hiding lacklustre ingredients; even dry eggs, limp vegetables and burnt potatoes can come together with enough hot sauce to be half decent.

I don't know why I went on so long about a bad breakfast burrito, since that is anything but the case at Breakers Cafe; the ingredients are all top notch. The eggs were cooked splendidly, they were tender and moist, with just enough tooth to provide a satisfying texture to the burrito. The vegetables were crisp and flavourful, and the beans were tender and rich. As an avid fan of the breakfast burrito, I was deeply impressed by the quality of food at the Breakers Cafe, and would return in an instant.

What a sweet little relaxing place, with an outdoor oyster and hot dog bar!

We came here for breakfast after a night without electricity, at a cliff side cabin.  All we craved was a hot meal and this place really delivered!  This is more like a Mexican style cafe, with tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, etc etc.

We ordered mocha, Uncle Pete's Omelet (shrimp, avocado, jack cheese & pica de gallo), Rocky's Omelet (roasted chicken, corn salsa).  They both come with house potatoes and tortilla.

The house potatoes were well flavored.  The crispy exterior was coated with a light layer of seasoning, even without ketchup, the seasoning was well balanced with the meal and not overly salted.

My shrimp omelet was so good!! The shrimps were really fresh with this bouncy texture and translucent pink glow.  The buttery flavor blended well with my creamy, stringy jack cheese and soft avocado.  Also, the fluffy eggs that wrapped the ingredients together really completed the meal with that pica de gallo tarty kick!

The chicken omelet was OK... the chicken tasted very "wild".  It has that wild, chickeny flavor.  It's hard to describe but it smelled almost gamy.  The flavor and texture were alright - it's pulled meat blended with a mixture of spices and salsa... but the gamy taste was slightly unsettling.

Overall, I would recommend this place for brunch, and maybe Sand Dollar across the street for dinner (they just seemed to have a classier menu for dinner, even though we didn't get to try it, they were packed at dinner time!).

We stopped in here as it used to be very similar to Sand Dollar and we had always gotten the oyster shooters. Well, I guess they have since changed ownership (same owner as Sand Dollar now) and it has become Mexican. Not really a bad thing since variety would be good in Stinson Beach area.

We got the fish tacos and the breakfast burrito with chorizo, potatoes and eggs.

THe fish tacos were NOT worth ever ordering again. For $9.95 I got 2 tiny obviously frozen pieces of fish with some marinated red onions. That's it folks! No salsa. No rice and beens. 2 tiny fish tacos that I can get for $1 on a taco truck and get more toppings. Not even salsa was served with it!

The burrito, however, was very good. I would order it again. It was a giant burrito filled with lots of meat and eggs and potatoes. Luckily, since I was still starving, I took a few bites of this to satisfy my hunger.

I really think that they need to be a little more consistant about the serving sizes and think a little harder about those fish tacos...... I won't be back for them for sure! I'd stick with the burrito next time.
