I knew in advance what to expect in terms of atmosphere which is why ordered take-out in the middle of the day. That itself was a pretty eerie experience. The bartender was more than helpful and take out was quick. Now I know the name of the joint has 'Rib' in it, but I'm always on the lookout for a decent brisket sandwich so I was eager to see how theirs measured up. Sad to say that the first bite left me less than impressed. Just bland, dry slices of chest meat. Even drenching it in their mediocre bbq sauce didn't help. Maybe one day I'll go back and actually try their ribs and this place will prove me wrong, but it won't be any time soon.
Review Source:This is definitely a biker bar. Â As a minority, I felt a bit uncomfortable (people staring for a long time as we walked in the door).
The food was great and reasonably priced. Â The hot honey sauce is great. Â They also have good beer specials.
I also appreciate that this is a local business which maintain the distinct character and aids in prosperity of our community.
The Ribhouse. This is somewhat of a local watering hole with a divey-but-not-in-that-hipster-way feel. You might catch a glimpse of a couple's argument, a waitress's personal drama, or loudly overhear a drunk man's sorrows, but that's part of what the Ribhouse is. Don't come here expecting white glove service, but like a lot of places, be nice to the staff and they'll smile and serve you with the rest of 'em.
The beers on tap are usually decent, but come for the food. The hot and honey BBQ is entirely too good. So good that I guiltily ate my husband's leftovers. And licked my fingers. And the container.
Where atmosphere and good food collide, messily.
After a dozen or so visits, I can now confess that I truly enjoy this place. It offers excellent quality barbecue. For your first I highly recommend the sampler, which features spare ribs, baby back ribs, barbecued chicken and Texas Toast, plus sides. All for a very reasonable price. That plus a good variety of beer.
For later visits, go for one of the steaks, or perhaps for the Southsider, a steak sandwich served au jus.
At some point you'll want to stop by and pick up the Full Feast which provides you with a gloriously stuffed bucket bursting with everything barbecue.
Yes, it is something of a biker joint. But a warm and pleasant one that often features live music. The first time I brought my long suffering spouse here, she said, "I can't believe you took me to that biker place." But all too soon, she was asking for another visit.
Great barbecue. Reasonable prices. Optional takeout. And the ambience you can only realize from a biker joint with a large live turtle tank in the dining area. Don't miss this one.
ribs, thats all a girl wants sometimes. My friend and I were at KOP mall and both had a hankering from some ribs. I found the Rib House online so we gave it a whirl. My friend felt a little out of place in the biker restaurant, but having been raised by a biker the ambiance was like a deja vu of my childhood. We both got the ribs with the hot honey sauce and after one bite I knew I had found a nice sticky, juicy bit of heaven. The staff was nice and attentive. One reviewer commented about them not having steaks on their menu and not allowing his lady to order something they don't have. I lubs me some BBQ and have rarely ever seen pit that serves steaks, but if I want beef I go with the brisket (which is a better cut than most steaks served in restaurants). Back to Rib House's awesomeness, there was a band setting up when we got there, so it means they have live entertainment some nights. If you're in the mood for something cooked long and slow that will make you make a little involuntary "mmmmmm" noise when you take a bite, hit up Bridgeport Rob House.
Review Source:After eating here consistently for 10 years, I have yet to find better ribs anywhere in the country.
#1. Â Hot honey. Â There should be no other choices on the menu. Â A perfect blend of tang and heat, offset by the initial sweetness of the honey. Â It's perfect. Â They should bottle it and go nationwide.
#2.  Order more than you can eat.  Take it  home.  It's just as good the next day and since it'll take at least 2 days for the smell of smoke and BBQ to come off your fingers, you're going to be craving it the next day regardless.
#3. Â Don't forget the lesser loved items. Â The drumsticks are out of this world! Â Order the half or full feast so you get a chance to try a little bit of everything.
It's been a few years since I had moved away and was struggling with finding good BBQ in the city. Â Each place seemed to have something close to ideal, but never got it perfect. Â Finally, just to introduce a new friend to it, I made the trek out to the burbs to show her how ribs are done right.
The baby-back ribs are the size of spare ribs at most places. Â Where you'd need to order a full rack at TGIFridays to get enough meat for a meal, here, 2-3 ribs is all any normal person can consume. Â Juicy and tender with a perfect rendering of marbled fat throughout.
The spare ribs are huge. Â The ends are great for people who steer clear of those great fat pockets at the end, while the middle pieces are nirvana and leave juices dripping down your chin. Â Seriously, how do they get them to stay so moist while crispy and slightly charred on the outside!
You ribs come out on a slice of texas toast, use it to soak up the little fallen pieces and dripping sauce (and don't even thing about wasting that sauce by using a napkin on your fingers, just grab another piece of toast!).
The sides are better than average, but really, why waste your stomach space. Â I've had and enjoyed potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, applesauce, beans, sausage stuffing. Â Probably the only thing I wouldn't recommend is the corn on the cob as it's a little soggy, but then again I have never found corn on the cob at a restaurant I would recommend so no strike against them there. Â
For atmosphere, it's a safe "biker/dive" bar. Â Lots of crap on the walls from over the years (when's the last time you saw a ceramic Spud's McKenzie statue in a bar!), and the staff is more than a little rough around the edges. Â 3/4 of the crowd are local's from a 10 block radius, but there's a certain charm to the place and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Â We were there on a Thursday and were quickly recruited for their beer-pong tournament (there's an actual sanctioning body for this!), and were accepted by the locals immediately...I've been to neighborhood bars around the world and this stands up with the best of them. Â
Think of this as a cozy neighborhood bar that knows that have world-class ribs and are proud to share them with the occasional foodie-tourist. Â It's probably a safe bet after 10 years, but I still hope they don't catch on too much, I'd hate to come back and find a hostess, reservations or even cloth napkins here. Â The local "undiscovered" feel is half the fun of bringing friends here.
where does my dad want to go for father's day? "to the biker bar" naturally. mind you my dad does not drink, and he can loosely qualify as a biker (now that he is retired he is reliving his glory days). but he's my pops and i got to make him happy. and if a biker bar will do the trick, i will strap on my helmet and roll out.
this is not exactly what i'd consider a biker bar. yes, bikers seem to hang out here. but there was a lot of non-bikers and their families too. so don't be intimidated by the idea of this being a biker bar. service was ok; nothing spectacular but perfectly fine in the context of this place. don't come here if you expect five star service. didn't you see where i called this a biker bar? and they were pretty busy, which isn't saying too much since the place is small. the food took a long time to come out, but i was ok with that. because they have good beers on tap. extra points for having good beers on tap, like victory. how happy was i that i could sip a summer love or hop devil while i wait for my ribs?! very, i tell you. and it gave pops & i time to catch up and grow hungrier.
i got the 1/4 leg combo, which is 3 pieces of chicken and 3 ribs. and i got them hot. also with a side salad (who am i kidding) and baked potato. the food was really, really good. better than i expected, actually. i must take points off because they don't have mac and cheese, which i consider a staple at all good BBQ places. but they give you so much food. i have enough leftovers for 2 more meals. pops had the hot honey sauce, and i liked that better. i love spicy, and the hot had a nice kick to it. but the hot honey had a better overall flavor.
i'd def come back for the food and stay longer for the atmosphere. everyone seemed to be having a genuinely good time. as we left, they were setting up for a band, so i bet this place can be a lot of fun after a few hop devils and good tunes. then you can hitch a ride home from my dad, i mean a biker.
The place is gritty and dark, but has a ton of character and charm. If you are looking for gimmicks, a highly customer focused attentive wait staff this is not the place for you. The place has good food and while the staff isn't highly trained they are good and have personality. I go to this place for good food and not a dinning experience. I typically get the wings, ribs, or pulled pork sandwich and it is always consistent and good. They smoke their ribs to perfection and there is a nice firmness to the meat that doesn't fall apart when I try to eat it. The wings are good as well. I always get the hot honey BBQ and they are juicy, crispy, and flavorful. Finally, the price is great for the quality and quantity.
Review Source:My fiance and I came with some friends who highly recommended the restaurant. Be aware - they don't have some of the things on their menu. My fiance originally ordered the steak, to which they said "We don't have any steak." Then they ran out of Macaroni Salad. We finally ordered the BBQ chicken with hot honey BBQ sauce, which was pretty good and had a "fall of the bone" succulence. Our friends had the burger and baby back ribs.
But the service set the precedent for the afternoon when she rudely brushed past our friend who requested an additional plate for her meal. While the food was pretty good the service here was terrible. The waitress neglected our table for the majority of our dining experience, preferring to spend her time pandering to the people at the bar. I enjoyed the company that surrounded our table, but the service made us feel like we were a nuisance.
I'd prefer to spend my money at Zachary's BBQ in Norristown. Their food is great and they have a welcoming service. I suggest if you come by the Bridgeport Rib House, don't bother sitting at the tables else you fade into the background.
Consistently awesome. Â I get the spare ribs for take-out every other week. Â If you like large -bordering on massive- portions of ribs as I do, this is your place; it's not an exaggeration to say they could be charging 50% more and I wouldn't blink an eye for the amount of food you get. Â I order them "hot" and the sauce has just enough heat and is also quite tangy; no shortage of flavor whatsoever. Â
The sides are great too - I've had the sausage stuffing, potato salad and onion rings. Â The bartenders are friendly in an unpolished way (it is Bridgeport, of course) and to add icing on the cake, they recently introduced a frequent customer card!
Really?? Â The best you've had?? Â These were some of the worst ribs I've ever had. Â I had high expectations based on the reviews, the fact that it has RIB in the name, and the hickory smell as I approached. Â Although, should have been suspicious when we entered and we were the only ones in the dining area and there were two people sitting at the bar on a Sunday around noon. Â The turnout alone should have made me pull a 180 and exit right away. Â I unfortunately ignored my instincts and tried to be optimistic which was a bad move. Â Anyways, we ordered a half a rack of baby backs and a half of spare ribs and split them between two people. Â You get a side or two with each order but I wasn't here for a side salad or French fries, I was here for the ribs. Â The size was there - the spare ribs were huge and baby backs were good sized but the taste and tenderness wasn't there. Â They were large, fatty, tough and had a tiny hint of smoke. Â The sauces were nothing to write home about either. Â The best thing I had from here was a coke and the onion rings. Â Someone said better than sweet lucys? Â They HAD to have went to a different sweet lucys or own this place bc no one would ever claim that. Â Maybe I had them on an extremely off day. Â That being said I'll probably give them a second chance....not!
Review Source:Just great ribs, great BBQ chicken and great cheese steaks and chicken steaks.
I strongly suggest the hot honey BBQ sauce. Â They also have a full bar.
If you cant make up your mind they have a nice sampler for 15 bucks, 17 with 2 sides and they have a full bar too!
The only thing I like better at Sweet Lucy's is the mac and cheese, otherwise Sweet Lucy's is in a close but still second place, IMHO!
Get the Hot Honey sauce and enjoy the full bar and your great meal.
OK - First of all - I will tell you that I usually get take out - as I live only a few blocks from the Ribhouse (which makes me hungry when the wind is blowing from the South and the smoker is going strong).
The "Feast" as they call it with chicken, baby back ribs, and short ribs will feed you for 2 days.
We actually had the Ribhouse cater part of our wedding rehearsal dinner with ribs and chicken. Â All of our guests raved over it.
As mentioned - some of the salads do lack flavor - so my suggestion is to buy your proteins from here and do the rest yourself.
You may ask - a 5-star rating with negative comments? Â The ribs are just THAT good!
I have only ever gotten take-out at the Bridgeport Rib House, so I can only comment on that. Â After numerous visits, the short story is that the food is pretty good, the prices are fair, and picking up one's order in the bar is poor.
Barbecue on par with this can be had elsewhere in the area, without the weak service experience.
Great ribs. Go there and repeat after me: I'll take an order of baby back ribs, hot honey, and no sides. The ribs come on a piece of Texas toast, and you'll have several (domestic) beers, so that's all the carbs you'll need, so don't try to order fries, or beans, or a damn salad. Now that piece of toast, soaked in a mysterious mix of BBQ sauce and oil...it's like eating the worm at the bottom of the tequila bottle.
Review Source:Had some high expectations for this place with the reviews I read and the opinions I heard and I ended up highly disappointed. We ordered baby back ribs and there was a good portion but the ribs were dry as anything. We ordered hot honey sauce and the sauce overtook the flavor of the ribs. Ironically, the macaroni salad and coleslaw lacked flavor.
Our waitress was neglectful and a bit rude. When she brought our food she gave us napkins and then walked away with us sitting there like "Where are our utensils?" and when I asked her politely for some forks she responded with "No, you have to eat with your hands" really sarcastically then brought us our forks. Â Then we asked for the check which took a good 20 minutes. We practically ran out of there and we're never coming back.
I went here a few months ago with my fiance. Â We went here on a sunday afternoon and had awesome bbq! Â This place is a little dirty but that's part of the atmosphere. Â We had a nice platter for two that included ribs, chicken and sides. Â It was SO much food and it was so good! Â I have to say the sampler was worth it and had so much food and it was great.
This place is awesome and I highly recommend it for a try if you're in the area.
Great Rib joint, probably the best in the area. Decent selection of beers. If you have a good appitite I recommend the BBQ Sampler, it's got a mix off all the best. The pork sandwich is also excellent. Basically everything on the menu is great.
I was traveling almost 100 miles away from Philadelphia and had this place recommended to me, it's been a staple of mine ever since.
We went to a Birthday party and it was catered by the Rib House.
For the food they had, BBQ chicken breast(boneless), ribs and pork. Â 1st....the pork looked amazing, the taste on the other hand was very bland. Â It was okay but i've had better, it had no smoke flavor. Â It tasted like they either cooked in an overn and thew it on the trailer for looks. Â I don't know but i could taste no flavor what so ever. Â It looked great, but not so much. Â They also had a lot of sides, I'm not a big potato salad fan but i was told it was very good, the mac and cheese was okay, the corn was huge but it wasn't sweet at all. Â Maybe it was just the time of the year. Â Not bad food but no great. Â The ribs looked incredible, but once again they didn't taste as good as they looked. Â Don't get me wrong they weren't bad, but they weren't that great.
Been meaning to try the Bridgeport Rib House out for some time. One day a friend suggested we go, and we did. (In fact, I've lunched here several times.)
If I remember correctly, the Rib House shares the same owner with the Conshy one. Unlike the latter, Bridgeport's has a big parking lot. It's a decent place, with colorful murals on their exterior. Indoors, there's a slight smell of cigarettes (yes, they allow smoking, last I checked) and a large wooden bar. Both places have good service, good food, and reasonable prices.
Last I was here, our server (Jeanine) was quick, getting us our orders in a jiffy. Their half rack of spareribs are large, and sometimes hard to chew at times. The hot honey BBQ sauce slathered on them wasn't spicy at all, more of a slight tang. Of their sides, I usually get their applesauce, baked beans, or macaroni salad (one time it came out a little warm, eeww). It's a dependable lunch spot, and ultimately a matter of taste - go try them out for yourself!
I lived in the KOP area between 2003-2005 and this was easily my favorite place to eat in the entire area.
Great food, great staff and amazing bands nearly ever night of the week.
I'm nearly 200 miles away but I'm making plans for a Rib House reunion, thats how much I miss this awesome place!!!!
