Good vibe, live music. Just next door to Spanish tapas and slightly less pretentious as the bar on the corner. This place is a local niche. The one man band was fairly impressive, although a bit loud, it would only sound so to a person who didn't know the covers he was playing- clearly catered to folks of the same generation as I. He did a pretty awesome self composed song and had a good collection of *groupies to cheer him on. Â New bartender was great because her pours were very generous, though no guarantee they'll be consistent.
The place looks like your best buds home as you walk into the parlor and large bar is there to serve you. Cushy couches and a few tables to view the stage performance. Good porch and patio area for those sucking on the cancer sticks.
Low key, good place to start the night.
Best bar on Glenwood South. Â The staff is really friendly and the drinks are always tasty. Â Their Bloody Mary's are awesome. Â They used infused vodka with Zing Zang. Â It's delicious. Â Want something cheaper? Â PBR tallboys are only 2 bucks. Â They have patio seating in the front and back. Â They often serve free food too. Â Best place for Sunday Funday.
Review Source:If I'm looking to save some money but still have a good time, or if I'm looking for a spot to 'pre game' before I go to a club, Brooklyn Heights offers that in a great location. The place looks like a house -- when I first saw it, I thought it was some kind of frat-tastic house catering to the bros strolling along glenwood, when in fact, it's quite the opposite.
The place is a little dive-y (often has cover bands on weekend nights), people smoking outside on the deck/front yard area (which I removed a star for -- sorry, but I don't like having smoke blown in my face as I'm going in or leaving). I also removed a star for their bathrooms. While they are nice earlier in the night, they can get very messy as the night goes on and since its a 1-person bathroom, there is almost always a line after 11pm.
Their couches inside offer comfortable seating for nice conversation. The bar has nicely priced beers but often as the night goes on it becomes more and more difficult to grab a drink (if you're not the aggressive type and place your hand on the bar/squeeze between people, it will take you a very long time to get a drink if its packed). Â The could definitely use a larger bar, but the place is small as it is.
It's a great place to go earlier in the night, and I do enjoy myself there...but as the night wanes on, there are plenty of other places I have in mind.
I had a good time at Brooklyn Heights, and got a kick out of the southern interpretation of what it means to be a hipster in Williamsburg (hint: it's pretty close). Â The DJ was good, there were cheap PBRs, and a few people awkwardly dancing with them in hand.
The front patio was a really nice place to drink, especially with the gorgeous weather. Â We snagged ourselves proper seating and planted for quite some time.
Bartender was quite pleasant as well, and service was quick.
There was never too big of a crowd, at the bar, or outside, and the line to the bathroom moved quickly. Â Bathrooms were very clean as well.
This has become my new Sunday Funday location. Â Relaxed atmosphere, great bartenders and a playlist that keeps my Soundhound app active by tagging new tracks I'm interested in checking out are all a big part of it.
What brought me there in the first place? Â Well, rumor had it that they had the best bloody mary in town. Â Many bars in Downtown Raleigh claim the very same thing, and some have lived up to the hype. Â I decided a few months ago that it was time to test out another rumor, and can honestly say these guys take the top prize. Â There's no "make your own" gimmick, or enough garnishes to make your drink look like a planter. Â It's all about the ingredients. Â They have a large glass container sitting behind the bar that they fill with jalapenos and vodka, and just let it soak. Â They pour directly from the jar into a pint glass, top it off Zing Zang mix, and if you ask nicely, even throw in a little Old Bay for an extra kick. Â PS - all this is only $5 on Sunday.
If you spend most of your Sunday afternoons dreading what the next morning will bring, then I would suggest stopping here to extend your weekend well into the evening and enjoy a pint or two. Â Sit out on the porch, or inside at the bar or one of their couches, and sip your stress away....
I don't know how you could possibly have a bad thing to say about B Heights and it seems like (most) other yelpers agree. Â I've been visiting Brooklyn since New Years Eve of 2009. Â As far as the Raleigh bar scene goes, It is a breath of fresh air on Glenwood. Â The bartenders are awesome, the drinks are cheap, the crowd is laid back, and the music is always great. Â Fingers crossed that it doesn't get overrun with underaged college kids!
Review Source:It's not my fault that I don't try new things here when you always have PBR tall cans for $2.
I like this place to start out or take a break from the typical Glenwood scene. Apparently it is supposed to be 25 years old and up? I've never had a problem. Hanging outside is great in the summer, but the interior is fine as well. My friends and I prefer to bogart the leather couches in the front, which provides a great venue for the solo artists and small bands they have most weekend nights. Last time, the band was too loud, but the time before that, the solo guitarist was playing songs from bands like Everclear and Filter, and I was very happy.
Five stars for Sunday Bloody Mary's, Bluegrass, and BBQ!
I had never actually been in town on the right Sunday afternoon to try it out until this week...and now I will be making a point to be in town on Sundays. Â $5 gets you an excellent spread of bbq chicken, and whatever else they feel like having that week. Â The chicken tacos and macaroni and cheese were great. Â At some point they brought slices of watermelon to our table. Â And later, banana pudding appeared...which was also tasty.
The bloody mary's were spicy and potent, and they had a good selection of beer to move on to. Â
I am pretty sure that there's no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than listening to bbq and people watching on Glenwood on  Brooklyn Height's patio.
An unassuming little establishment on Raleigh's Glenwood strip where the patrons are quite young and friendly. Drink prices are on par with the rest of the area but service is slow, and there are no waitresses. There is a small porch out front which provides one the opportunity of viewing activities on Glenwood Avenue. The first time I was there, a soloist was performing at volume levels that were way too loud for the size of the bar. On my second time, a dj was spinning vinyl, again way too loud. Since there is no dance floor, the purpose of the dj is a mystery to me, other than to provide so much noise so that patrons have to yell at their friends in order to be heard. As one of the few bars without a cover charge, I would go back there.
Review Source:After walking by Brooklyn Heights a bunch of times, I had to stop in. Â You need to be a member but it doesn't take much: a buck and some of your personal info and you'll soon have a card. Â (For those of you new to NC, if you don't serve food with the alky-hol, you're a "private club, members only") Â The place looks like a small white house with some tables and chairs scattered in front to watch the Glenwood crowd.
Inside the place is nicely done: pair of leather couches, pub tables and an nice L-shaped bar. Â It's cozy and inviting, a nice spot for a leisurely cocktail. Â Service was very good and while there isn't a ton of drink selections, you've got everything you need. Â Very mixed crowd on Saturday night ranging from hipsters to yuppies and suburbanites, no surprise there. Â Overall I think this place would be really good on a slower, Tues - Thur night when the crowd was a bit thinned out. Â I'll be back to see what this place is like without the mobs!
i was at this place when some guys came in to ask the bartender how he wanted to promote the bar.
bartender: "i don't"
promoters: "then how will people find out about this place?"
bartender: "i don't care"
keep this one to yourself. Â i like it but heed the bartender's advice. Â if you tell too many people about Brooklyn Heights and it becomes 'the club' & is packed w/ 19 year old dudes then i'm gonna come looking for answers!
