The original location was located in old town Gardena on Gardena Blvd. Â I used to go to Bruddah's in that location back in the day. Â I used to love the food at that location. Â The food was great....sweet and sour ribs, kahlua pork, short rib stew, chicken katsu.....
I haven't been to Bruddah's in years, so I decided to check the new location out with a co-worker friend of mine during the work week.
There was no one to seat us, so we seated ourselves. Â The place was empty when we arrived. Â Then a couple of other parties came in and seated themselves as well. Â As we were waiting to get menus, I noticed the young server in the back slowly taking her time fixing her hair then putting her apron on. Â She then starts talking to the elderly gentlemen at the next table "talking story." Â Goes in the back and brings back menus for them and continues "talking story" to them. Â After she takes their order and goes back to the kitchen to place the order, she moves on to the other table. Â Again "talking story" to this table. Â The 2 older gentlemen start to ask this young attractive Hawaiian server how old she is and what part of Hawaii she's from. Â Really? Â WTH!
After 10 minutes or more waiting for menus, she finally comes to our table and asks us what we would like to drink, then delivers the menu. Â If we were in Hawaii, may be this type of service is acceptable...but we're in LA and we're on our lunch hour from work.
When she comes back we finally place our order. Â I decided on one of the specials for the day, which was pork adobo with fried saimin. Â My friend decided on the kahlua pork and cabbage. Â Both meals came with 2 scoop of rice and macaroni salad (which here at Bruddah's is prepared with broken spaghetti noodles rather than macaroni). Â My meal came out first. Â Then about 5 minutes after I was served, my friend's meal came out. Â
My pork adobo was way too salty for my liking. Â If you're on a low sodium diet, stay away from this dish. Â The fried saimin was decent. Â There was plenty of char siu and kamaboku (fish cake) in the fried saimin, however the portion was skimpy...especially for Hawaiian plate lunch standard. Â The macaroni salad was good. Â I had a taste of my friend's kahlua pork and cabbage. Â I liked this better than my selection.
Our server was young and inexperienced....although she was attractive, but that didn't help in the service area.
Over food rating was a 3 minus. Â Service was a solid 1.
I'll give this place a few months to get it's act together, then I'll give this another try. Â I hope service and the food will be better. Â Service and the food was way better in the old location for sure!
