The original location was located in old town Gardena on Gardena Blvd. Â I used to go to Bruddah's in that location back in the day. Â I used to love the food at that location. Â The food was great....sweet and sour ribs, kahlua pork, short rib stew, chicken katsu.....
I haven't been to Bruddah's in years, so I decided to check the new location out with a co-worker friend of mine during the work week.
There was no one to seat us, so we seated ourselves. Â The place was empty when we arrived. Â Then a couple of other parties came in and seated themselves as well. Â As we were waiting to get menus, I noticed the young server in the back slowly taking her time fixing her hair then putting her apron on. Â She then starts talking to the elderly gentlemen at the next table "talking story." Â Goes in the back and brings back menus for them and continues "talking story" to them. Â After she takes their order and goes back to the kitchen to place the order, she moves on to the other table. Â Again "talking story" to this table. Â The 2 older gentlemen start to ask this young attractive Hawaiian server how old she is and what part of Hawaii she's from. Â Really? Â WTH!
After 10 minutes or more waiting for menus, she finally comes to our table and asks us what we would like to drink, then delivers the menu. Â If we were in Hawaii, may be this type of service is acceptable...but we're in LA and we're on our lunch hour from work.
When she comes back we finally place our order. Â I decided on one of the specials for the day, which was pork adobo with fried saimin. Â My friend decided on the kahlua pork and cabbage. Â Both meals came with 2 scoop of rice and macaroni salad (which here at Bruddah's is prepared with broken spaghetti noodles rather than macaroni). Â My meal came out first. Â Then about 5 minutes after I was served, my friend's meal came out. Â
My pork adobo was way too salty for my liking. Â If you're on a low sodium diet, stay away from this dish. Â The fried saimin was decent. Â There was plenty of char siu and kamaboku (fish cake) in the fried saimin, however the portion was skimpy...especially for Hawaiian plate lunch standard. Â The macaroni salad was good. Â I had a taste of my friend's kahlua pork and cabbage. Â I liked this better than my selection.
Our server was young and inexperienced....although she was attractive, but that didn't help in the service area.
Over food rating was a 3 minus. Â Service was a solid 1.
I'll give this place a few months to get it's act together, then I'll give this another try. Â I hope service and the food will be better. Â Service and the food was way better in the old location for sure!
Quickie:
+ Newer location with a bar, dart boards, pool table and small stage area
+ More spacious and good location on Redondo Beach Blvd.
+ Ono food
---
Food:
As a long time patron of Bruddah's, here are some of my fave plates:
+ Kalua pork plate
+ Beef stew plate
+ Chicken long rice
Service:
My family of 5 arrived on Sunday around 11 and the place was relatively full with people waiting for food. They must still be adjusting to the bigger venue size and larger customer load because it took about 30-40 minutes to get served (ouchhh). However, they do have six TV sets around the restaurant so we kept ourselves entertained.
Location:
Good move from their old place and a lot more spaces in the parking lot so you're safe from the street. Ample amount of space inside for dining, drinking and dart throwing... would like to visit at night for drinks.
Extras:
They have two electronic dart boards and a new pool table that takes dollar bills.
I'm a Bruddah fan. When they closed their old location on Gardena blvd, I was sad. Another yelper told me they moved (Thanks Margie I) but she didn't know where. It took 3 weeks before I Â found them at this location.
It's a bar & grill now. A bigger location. A long bar on one side and quadruple the side of their old location. However, they didn't seem to have decorated the place. They even have the same old wobbly tables from the old location.
Why the 2 star?
Service or the lack there off for one. There were only 2 tables being used and it took forever to even order our meal. One waitress and it seemed she was overwhelmed by the 2 tables.
We ordered before the other table by 5 minutes and they got their food first. The other table had 5 coworkers, they requested separate bills and that took forever for her to do, which in turn took a long time for us to get our bill. Getting our change took another 10 minutes. From the dinning area you can see straight through the kitchen. We could see her having issues with something. She either needs help or retraining.
The food, I ordered the Kalua pork with cabbage which was okay. The macaroni salad I got tasted sour, so I didn't even chance it after the first bite. My lunch buddies both ordered the Thursday special which was the braised short ribs. Another customer before leaving heard my friends debating what to get, since it was their first time and suggested the special. Needless to say, both my friends were deeply disappointed with their dish. Their direct quote was "at almost $15 this wasn't special" ouch.
To top it off, right before we left. The bartender came over, handed us a ticket each (the ticket had a face value of $8) At first we thought it was free as a promo for a comedy show they were having, until he said it was $20 each.
Ok, face value was $8. He didn't say who was performing. And when my friends tried to be nice about it and said we might just buy the tickets at the door. The bartender rudely said it would cost $30 at the door. Really, $30.00. So the progression went from $8 to $20 to $30. Let's be real here, no one is going to watch a comedy show here for $30. Trust me.
Really disappointed!
I might be back, my lunch buddies won't.
I swear sometimes I think I must have been Hawaiian in a prior life because I love Hawaiian food THAT much. It took me 3 times coming here before I was able to find it & order food. They used to be on Gardena Bl, but just recently moved into a space that has a huge sign that says "Club Diva" (yes, seriously) on Redondo.
The stars finally aligned for me a couple weeks ago when I came on a Friday night. Got there around 7:30 only to be pleasantly surprised to see that their happy hour runs until 8pm! Their happy hour is amazing! So even if you are not hungry & just want a place to grab a drink where you can stretch your cash amongst other nice patrons - come here. I, however, came for the food. The food did not disappoint! It was amazing & so good! The saimen was my favorite, but the poke was yummy too! It's great! Oh and did I mention the super friendly staff? No attitude here & very attentive! Defiantly worth a visit!

ps what is your favorite  bruddahz dish? I love da " braised short ribs...Mmmm
Kudos and congratulations to Avi and Libby for combining the best of both worlds (their wonderful food creations from Bruddah's and their delicious drink concoctions from Hana Hau) and welcome to your new home on Redondo Beach Blvd (at Normandie - southwest corner). Their Kalua Pork is so tender and tasty (absolutely delicious). LC (restaurant/bar mgr) has created a wonderful bar menu as well (try the fried musabi, wings or tater-tot nachos) and all of the items are very reasonablly priced. The restaurant is spacious (with a stage area for entertaiment) and the full-service bar is quite large and has 4 big-screen tv's for all of your sporting event coverage.
