Loved the chef coming out and greeting us. The waiter we had was super friendly and helped us decide between some of the specials. I must say that their California Omelette was amazing.
Every time we have come here we have been very pleased with the service and food.
This has quickly become our favorite Sunday brunch stop and look forward to it each week.
Our family is very fond of Bub's Burgers (1.5 blocks north of the cafe) and my wife and I visited the cafe for the first time this week, for lunch, and it is really good. Â You can tell that most, if not all of the ingredients are very fresh and high quality. Â I had the meat lovers quiche while my wife had the California scramble special. Â Both were really tasty. Â They have a nice, covered deck on the front, which is where we sat. Â We asked the chef about how crowded it can get on weekends. Â He advised arriving before 9:30 to beat the breakfast crowds. Â Give it a try. Â Indy/Carmel need more places like this!
Review Source:I love Bub's burgers so I imagined Bub's cafe would be just as good...I was wrong. Â Service was painfully slow and the food was subpar at best. I had to ask if the eggs they used in omelets we real or egg beaters..they told me they were real eggs but honestly I am not buying that they looked and tasted like egg beaters. Definitely won't be making another trip to Bub's Cafe
Review Source:The donut holes are a five. The other food is also very good. I haven't eaten anything I haven't liked. The service has always been friendly, however, I feel like it can be on the slow side. Â
The 3 star versus 4 star comes from how loud it is. Maybe it is because I've always been seated in the little room in the front, but it is really loud in there, even with only one other table occupied. I also feel that while the food is good, it is over priced. (Except the donut holes, those are fairly priced for what you get.)
This place is a little hidden away from the Main st. crowd of eateries, which I think makes it even better. To me, a place that you have to look a little harder for is generally a bit better as they attract a more die hard and dedicated fan.
But I didn't have to look too hard to find this place, my sister took me here. Oh well, I still stand by my theory. It is a great little restaurant that does just breakfast and lunch. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are generous. I've been here twice and both times had great service and the chef circulated through out the room talking with the diners and inquiring if all was well with their meals. I don't see that very often, especially in a breakfast/lunch cafe so it was a real nice touch.
Overall it is a great place to go to have a quiet breakfast or lunch and just sit and have some great conversation. The mood is colorful and upbeat there.
Have fun if you go!!!
Bub's holes!! (Donut holes). Â They are a must. Â Mix them up if you want. Â Get one glazed, one cinnamon, one something else. Â You cannot go wrong.
While the egg sandwich cannot hold a candle to Cafe Patachou, there is plenty else on the menu that I enjoy. Â
Pancakes are of the very large variety, but are quite good. Â There always seems to be a very interesting daily special as well. Â Bub's is one of those places where there is one must have item (Bub's holes) and everything else you order will be very good. Â It's hard to go wrong.
Yum!
I have been to Bubs several times. It is a cute little cafe in Carmel. The wait time on a weekend is usually around 20 minutes, so it's not a bad idea to call ahead.
They have great pancakes- quite large. One pancake doesn't sound like a lot, but it definitely is.
The prices are decent- everything is less than 9 dollars.
I recommend the egg sandwich! The donut holes are pretty good too.
Tough to evaluate a place on a half sandwich and salad, but the salad was lovely and the sandwiches very good. Â Stumbled across the place while riding up the Monon, and it was the perfect spot to stop for a bite. Â Lovely sitting on the patio, friendly mostly efficient service, and the kitchen staff regularly visited the tables to check on everyone's meals.
Review Source:I was ready to love this place, but I was disappointed. I went with my dad and step-mom, and they both got egg dishes that they really enjoyed. I got the grilled cheese, which had spinach and red peppers along with the cheese. But when I think of a restaurant's gourmet grilled cheese, I think lots of glorious cheese, oozing out everywhere. On this sandwich, there was plenty of bread, a decent amount of spinach and peppers, and about two thin slices of cheese. I'd say it was a pepper sandwich with cheese and spinach. And it made me sad.
Bub's Holes are sinfully delicious. It feels like eating a chocolate-flavored heart attack. I recommend them. Also, the potato salad is good, with plenty of mayo, and the service is great. I may go back one more time and give them another chance with a different dish.
If I only had one breakfast meal available before I died I would have it here. The stuffed French toast was a slap of flavor to my taste buds that had a wonderful aftertaste. The coffee is Starbucks quality (which, in my opinion is mediocre) however it is a slight side-note in the face of incredible breakfast faire that simply is not matched anywhere I have ever been. The outside patio is large, shaded, and looks out onto the Monon trail that feeds into downtown Carmel. The owner Matt actually refilled our coffee himself (he only admitted he was the owner after I questioned him). Great staff, amazing food, I wish I lived next door.
Review Source:Bub's Burgers' early rising sibling lives about a block south of Carmel's notorious burger joint. Â Get the Bub Holes. Â Giant, dense doughnut holes come in cinnamon, glazed, chocolate or powdered sugar. Â The smallest order is 3 holes, and that is the equivalent of eating three doughnuts. Â Because of their size and denseness, they take awhile to prepare. Â Call ahead and get them to go. Â Pair them with a cup of coffee and it's sweet heaven. Â
They have unique breakfast and lunch specials everyday, and they make their own sangria. Â
Skip the omelets.
Nice covered outdoor patio next to the Monon Trail.
Best Bacon I've Ever Had!!!!
I recently had breakfast at Bub's. Â Glorious!!!! I had an omlet, potatoes, and bacon. Â Awesome! Â The food was great, the service was stellar, and the wait time quoted by the hostess was spot on. Â Oh, and the bacon. Â Did I mention the bacon? Â The best bacon I've ever had! Â Can't wait to try to Bub Holes next time!
Bub's Burgers  & Ice Cream on the Monon in Carmel has made quite a name for itself with it's "Big Ugly" burger.  But slightly less well known is Bub's Cafe, located just down the trail.  Bub's Cafe serves breakfast and lunch Monday through Sunday, and as far as I'm concerned there is no other place to be on a Sunday morning.  Some go just for the "Bub Holes" alone, which are over-sized, freshly fried doughnut holes covered in your choice of traditional glaze, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar or chocolate sauce.  In the mood for some big eating "Big Ugly" style?  Order the "Big Stack" 12 pancakes in buttermilk, banana, blueberry, chocolate chip or strawberry.  You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I strongly recommend trying one of the daily specials.  There is always a quiche of the day, along with other offerings.
The most recent special to grace my plate was the Scotsman--a hard-boiled egg wrapped in house made elk and pork sausage, topped with marinara and served atop a biscuit over gravy. Â Yes, you read that correctly. Â It sounds strange, but it was amazing. Â What made it so wonderful was that each and every element was perfectly prepared. Â The egg was boiled perfectly--something I rarely see in restaurants, the sausage was flavorful and not the least bit greasy, and the biscuit and gravy would have made a great dish on its own. Â Even the marinara was delicious by itself. Â Altogether, it was a breakfast masterpiece. Â After seeing the attention to detail and tasting the combination of flavors, I would eat anything this Chef put in front of me.
Great place for breakfast !! I had a walking omlet which is an omlet rolled in a wrap.I choose egg whites, elk sausage ,spinach and white cheese. This was wonderful. The wrap was nice and warm and the eggs perfecly cooked.Coffee is very good and the sevice fast and friendly. Only drawback is there can be a wait sometimes.
Review Source:Worth the wait on a weekend morning. This is a good place to get some good breakfast. I ended up getting one of the sourdough breakfast bowls with bacon, hash browns and gravy. It was very good, but there is NO way you'd want to eat the entire bread bowl. I ate a few bites of it with the insides, but you'd have to carry me out if I ate the entire thing. My wife split an omelet and french toast with the other couple we went with and had nothing but good things to say. The portions are enough to fill you up and keep you going for the day. The chocolate milk we ordered was slightly warm, must be stored outside the fridge for easy access. We 'splurged' and got some of the dough nuts we'd heard good things of, but couldn't have been more let down. The dough nuts were absolutely horrible, while they were big in size they had more grease in them than any one person needs in an entire week. We ate half of one and tossed the rest, definitely not worth their weight! Other than that it was good and a we will go back occasionally.
Review Source:Stopped in with my mom and girlfriend on a frigid morning in January. Â The entire downtown Carmel grid was without power, including Bub's. Â They cook on almost entirely gas though so we decided to stick it out, I'm glad we did. Â I ordered an amazing elk sausage sandwich and some green tea. Â Both were plenty warm which really hit the spot given my cold-from-no-heat-cause-the-electricity-was-out state. Â
The restaurant occupies an old house along the Monon Trail, and though the decorations are a bit cutesy for me the location is great. Â I've also come once during the summer months with mom (we rode in). Â The patio was a wonderful option and I recall eating some delicious french toast. Â Â
Hot or Cold, Sweet or Savory, Bub's Cafe is sure to please.
So much so little! Well I'm a huge fan of Bub's Burger's and when I hears that Bub's and opened  a cafe there was SO MUCH hope. The 1st time I made it to Bub's Cafe and I found SO LITTLE to make me happy. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't bad it was just not what I had HOPED for. The cafe looks great from the outside, an old house turned into a cafe. The same that was done at Bub's 1st place, it dose work for both. The items seemed to be to Carmelized for my liking! It was what was expected not what I expected from a cafe. But once again the food is good but it could be more, ya know what I mean? Try it for your self, it may be what you are looking for I hope!
Remember to eat well and live well! And please no chain's!
All I can say is people are crazy. Â Yes the prices are high, but the food is awesome. Go to IHOP if you want cheap food. The Cafe is pricey but you get what you pay for. Â You can get a huge omelet and thick bacon for your moneys worth. Â I am more than full when I walk away and I am more than fine paying for it. Â But lets get serious, BUB HOLES.
Bub Holes are the shit. If you've never been here then go for these. Â You wont find them at Pancake House or Dennys, who eats there anyways?? Â The Cafe closes at 2 so get there early and brace yourself for an awesome breakfast. (and ask for Sherry, she's the coolest waitress in there)
I'm absolutely amazed that this place had a line out the door! Felt like I needed to write a review to keep you from wasting your hard earned money. Prices are outrageous as the previously reviews have mentioned - $6.25 for an omelette. Want toast? $1.50. Want fried potatoes with that? $1.75. The food is not even good so I just don't get the line out the door. Maybe this is the only decent breakfast spot on Carmel? I'd recommend putting the extra $ toward gas and drive south for a breakfast in Indianapolis. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Menu said the eggs were fried over well. Told the waitress I'd like them fried hard which I thought was the same thing anyways. She repeated the fried hard part back and then brough out over easy eggs. Urgh. Extra star is for its location on the Monon. So at least you can walk off the grease.
Review Source:TOTALLY AMAZING!! Â
Unlike previous review, I and my friend both found the serving size to be generous, and the food amazing! Â We each spent around $15, but I would have spent at least $5 more to have such amazing sausage gravy biscuits, homemade donuts and a bellini that wasn't skimping on the champagne. Â Sure, more expensive than a Denny's or Pancake House or whatnot, but the food and the dining experience is a totally different playing field. Â I needed to be rolled back down the Monon! Â
I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in Carmel. Â OH, and the decor? Â Totally cute!! Â Restroom was clean and the service was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Â Totally deserves five stars.
I had high hopes for Bub's but was very disappointed. I run by it most weekends on the Monon Trail and it always smells delicious. I was told by my dining mates I shouldn't be surprised by the prices because it's in Carmel, but I was. It's way overpriced, and everything is ala' cart. I think a an omelet can at least come with some toast or something included.
That being said, the elk sausage is delicious, as are their pancakes. The omelet seemed a bit buttery or greasy (I could see the oil dripping from whatever the lubricant was) which made it tasty, but a lot less healthy. The pancakes were thick and textured and delicious, though overpriced. I'm sure it had some whole wheat in it.
But when I spend $15 on an omelet, coffee, and a single pancake, I feel gypped. I'd go to the Original Pancake House every time over this place.
