This place blows. The exceptionally rude bouncer didn't let my friends and I in because he said we were too drunk. Actual story: several of us shared a pitcher  before heading there so we all had the same amount to drink- a whopping one glass. He let the two that did have a Cali license in but denied the rest of us that had an out-of-state license. So either we were discriminated against or he just sucks at his job. Moral of the story- don't go there. Head two blocks down to Cass Bar & Grill where the bouncers are wonderful and the atmosphere is chill.
Review Source:I generally come here for Wing Wednesdays. Â The wings here used to be $0.25 cents each, but it's now 1/2 off original price which comes out to be $0.50 and you have to order a drink to get this special deal. Â I've tried the spicy terayaki, archie, honey mustard, and buffalo, and I gotta say that I like the archie the best. Â It's a combo of the honey mustard and buffalo. Â The wings are pretty decent, they're not amazing. Â I think that they taste about the same as at moondoggie.
It's a pretty dive-y place where you have to seat yourself, so I generally like to come with my friends around 8-9 when it's cleared up a bit. Â I came here once at 6 and the place was so crowded, i decided to never do that again.
This ratchet azz joint deserves only 1 ratchet azz star just because the tater tots are good.
( minus ) 1 star because you have seat yo damn self as soon as you enter the ratchet azz establishment.
( minus ) 1 star because the burnt crisp wings which a splash of flavoring are mediocre at best.
( minus ) 1 star because a beverage MUST be bought for each patron.
( minus ) 1 star because server Jeanie charged regular price for wings on "Wing Wednesday."
OMG WTF!!!..LOL. Oh well never coming to this ratchetness.
If you heard about this ratchet azz establishment's wings being one of the best in San Diego, don't believe the hype! You've been warned, go to Dirty Birds :)
Dirty Birds pwns Bub's Dive Bar, PERIOD.
Bub's Wing Wednesday are a great time for anyone who loves to get down and dirty with their food. All wings are 1/2 price, so essentially 50 cents, when ordered with a drink. There are plenty of flavors to choose from: Buffalo, BBQ, Spicy BBQ, Honey Mustard, Archie (combination of Buffalo and Honey Mustard), and a few more. The Archie is my personal favorite: it is a drippy kind of sauce that gets all over your face and hands and leaves fireworks in your mouth. Order in sets of 5. As a girl, I can eat about 7 of these wings. They are huge and fat and juicy and smothered in sauce.
The only problem I have with this place is that it is self-seating, which can be extremely difficult on busy nights like wednesdays. Groups of people arriving hover next to groups of people eating and make it slightly awkward for both parties.
Tip: Their tater tots are suuuuupppeerrrb, and yelp's check in offer is a basket of tater tots with a $5 purchase. Note, this does not apply on Wing Wednesdays though.
I would give it a 5 if I didn't have to wait for so long. But it is Soooooo Good! I brought my own philosophy club there one time and I plan to bring more clubs there in the future. The wings are juicy, NOT Fried. If you like spicy, order the specially spicy wings and a lick can burn your tongue for minutes. It's exciting. I like the barbeque flavor, and also the buffalo wings are most ppl's favorite. :)
Go on Wednesday and it's 50 cent per wing. Put it on your calendar every Wednesday! :)
It's a bar. There are peanut shells on the ground, almost to the point where it covers the floor. And especially on Wednesday night, it's super packed and really hard to find a spot.
Why, you ask?
Wednesday is Wing Night. $0.50/wing.
Guess that's a valid excuse for the huge crowd in there.
Anyway, back to the wings: The amount of meat on each piece puts the wings at Hooters to shame. As in "Go to your corner and wear the cone hat" shame!
From what I remember, there are five flavors to choose from: Archie, Spicy BBQ, Buffalo, Honey Mustard, and Teriyaki. And honestly, the ones I really cared for were Honey Mustard and Archie since they were the most interesting flavors out of the five. Spicy BBQ just tickled the insides of my mouth, but didn't necessarily burn it off. Buffalo and the Teriyaki flavors were a little too overwhelming in terms of flavor.
Oh, and service...yeah, it's a crowded bar on a day with a $0.50/wing special. Don't expect spectacular service. My friend and I were lucky the 2nd guy we flagged down even remembered our order and got it for us as promptly as possible!
Would I come here again? Hmm, maybe...I definitely love me some chikin wannnnggggssss!
(And for those of you who are underage...you're outta luck, this place is 21+ only.)
The wing wednesday deal is a hit or miss.
Around 8pm on a wednesday, it took 15 minutes to scope out a table (you seat yourself, and on a wednesday it's quite a challenge.) However, once we seated ourselves a waitress quickly cleared the remnants of the previous meal from our table and took our orders. The archie wings and spicy bbq wings were delicious, and a steal at $0.50 each. We ordered a side of tots and fries, and they were good, but not really special.
The second time I came here my experience was not that positive. I went about a week ago at 11:30pm. We missed the dinner rush so finding a table was easy, but I was disappointed with my wings. 4 of the 5 of them were charred on the outside, and there wasn't enough Carolina Gold sauce on them. Also, I didn't know that they don't let you take leftover wings to-go. In retrospect this makes sense because people would just come in and order loads of wings to-go. However, I only ordered 5, the minimum order, and couldn't finish them but was told to either eat them or to throw them away. The sweet potato tots are also not very good. They were really sweet, and not very crispy- I would stick to regular tots. The saving grace was the amaretto sour- $5.50 on Wednesdays which isn't cheap for PB, but really delicious :)
$0.50 wings on Wednesday! Use to be $0.25, but still a good deal. Wings are pretty flavorful, and decent sized.
Bubs is your typical sports bar: peanut shells all over the floor, bros drinking PBR and bud, and TVs covering the walls. Â
Note: It gets pretty busy on Wednesdays. So come at 5 when it starts, or be willing to wait around for a table up to 15 minutes.
Came here with friends for Wednesday's wing night. First of all I'm a sucker for free peanuts. Second of all I'm a sucker for being able to make a mess and throw the shells on the floor. Third of all GRILLED wings!? BOMB. They are pretty sizable too with plenty of meat. I got the archie sauce on mine. Its a special combo of honey mustard and buffalo. Yummmmmmmm. Awesome balance of flavors. On Wednesdays the wings are 50 cents each (minimum order of 5) so its a great deal for good food and a good time.
**heads up: The chicks (ha no pun intended) taking orders are pretty sassy and spunky which could probably be offensive to people, but we were entertained by it.
Just another day of the week, and just another weekly special...WING WEDNESDAY!
Dirty Birds has the best wings in San Diego, but there is just something special about Bub's. It probably has something to do with the free peanuts that you can just eat and toss the shells on the ground. The freedom of throwing the peanut shells just holds a special place in my heart (hence why I hate Gladstones forever now).
Not to get side-tracked, but lets get back to the main point, the WINGS! The wings are delicious here. They are pretty big, juicy, and the sauces are bursting with flavor. I ordered 5 Buffalo and 5 Archie. The Buffalo was classic spicy flavor that turns up the heat in your mouth just a bit. But I really enjoyed the Archie wings. Archie is Bub's signature sauce which is a mix of buffalo and honey mustard. It still has the slight heat of the buffalo, but nicely contrasted with the honey mustard. Its the ying and yang. And I am not afraid to say it, I did end up licking each and every finger after I had finished...definition of fingerlickin' good!
At 50 cents a pop, I could hit these wings up for a while. And wash it down with a Bud Light for $3.5 and you got yourself a weekly special!
I end on a sad note that Bub's indeed used to be even cheaper (if thats even possible) with wings for 25 cents each. But even with the increase, I will still coming back here.
The food is great especially the onion rings and wings. Â
I'm giving 2 stars for their horrible service. Â Luckily even though it was a Wednesday we found a table right away. Â It was dirty but that's to be expected since it's open seating and we sat as soon as the people left. Â
We sat and waited for about 10 minutes. Â No one came to clean the table, to hand us a menu, or take our drink order. Â So... the bar only being about 4 steps away from the table my friend decided to order us drinks. Â
We sat in Heathers section the only reason I had her name imprinted on my brain is because when she came by to finally take our drink order I had told her that a friend is getting our drinks at the bar and asked for a menu. Â Nothing personal right? Â I guess not.. She gave me the nastiest look and said "My name is Heather and this is MY section and I'd appreciate it if you would order your drinks through me." Â An AWESOME way to start a dinner right??
Sure I understand servers have bad days, hey I've been a waitress too! BUT if you're going to be in that industry you think you can check your attitude for the whole 2 minutes it takes to take an order. Â If I had an attitude like hers I would have been fired for sure.
If we had not been waiting to meet up with a couple of people there we would have left. Â Other than our waitress's bad attitude throughout the whole dining experience everything else was pleasant. Â
I might go back but I will definitely make sure I never sit in her section again.
Is there such thing as having wings that have too much flavor?
Came here on Wednesday Wing night. Sadly, I heard they increased their wing price from 25 cents to 50 cents each wing (in increments of 5), but hey, still a good deal.
I got 5 wings and tater tots and was deeply satisfied. I got the buffalo wings and man, were they saucy! Powerful punch of flavor and a good kick of spicy. The chicken itself wasn't bad. Pretty tender and juicy which is nice compared to the too-crispy and fried wings at other places. Also came with 2 celery sticks. The tater tots - order them with cajun seasoning - SOO good! For about $5, they give you a generous portion of crispy, perfectly cooked and seasoned potato in a tot form goodness. It was so good that I had to order a second basket (to share of course). For some reason, their peanuts were really good too! Go figure...
It's a first come, grab your own table place. Luckily we were able to get one. Dim, but cute lighting, loud music, sports on TV kind of place. Â Service was kind of slow though, but eventually we got what we wanted.
Overall, a good cheap place to chill, get happy hour beer, eat cheap wings, and of course get tater tots. Mmm...
Here is the Bub's Dive Bar list of perfection:
1. There is Pittsburgh sports bias here
2. They will change the TV's happily if there is a game that you specifically would like to watch
3. The tots and burgers are TASTY!
4. The venue itself is quite spacious
5. The bartenders are laid back, attentive, and genuinely friendly
6. Everything here is priced reasonably
7. The Mimosas here come with a splash of orange juice ;)
If I lived in SD, I would absolutely be a regular at this place!
Went to Bub's and had the most amazing experience!! If you ever go to Bub's ask for Kylee, she was super friendly and made our experience very memorable. Since I have worked in the industry for many years, it is refreshing to have genuinely good service :) Kylee is so sweet and we will definitely be back!! Hurry and come to visit her though, cuz she is moving in a few weeks!
Review Source:I went to Bub's Dive Bar for Wing Wednesday the week after my 21st birthday, hoping to have a chill night with my buddies.
- Every table was filled with customers when we arrived.
- A pitcher of Shock Top for $18
- Wings and tots were cheap and came out fast
- Some wings were burnt and undercooked
- Service was mediocre. We had to eat in front of the register since there wasn't any open table, and a waitress suggested us to eat faster. Reasonable, but made us uncomfortable nonetheless.
Not coming back again...Maybe just for the free tots since the coupon doesn't work on Wednesdays:(
Steelers bar. During the season this place is packed so you HAVE to come early or else you'll wait in line. No cover I believe. If you have a problem with walking on peanut shells then you might have a problem with this joint. Rudy used to work on Sundays (not sure about now) and is the BEST bartender EVER.
The food. Something for everyone. Tots are my fav. Similar to True North's in North Park. Monday's special is $5 burgers with tots. Taco Tuesday anyone? They have that to. It's worth a try, but it's nothing like the other joints in PB, meaning... If you had the option, maybe try someplace else. That's not to say Bub's tacos suck, I just don't think it's the best thing they serve.
1 stars is only for the wings because that's all this place is good for.
I came by on wing night with some friends and it was pretty crowded. This place is open seating so come early on a wednesday or be prepared to awkwardly stalk people trying to get their table before someone else does.
Their wings here are really good and different. Different in that they are grilled rather than friend, which makes it seem healthier or at least that what i tell myself. I got the archie flavor and hot. Archie is bbq and honey mustard sauce mixed and its really good. Total came out till like 5 bucks for 10 wings.
Now on to the service and the reason why this place got 2 stars. I came a little later and my friends were already inside at a table. I get to the bouncer and hand him my ID. I know you should hand the bouncer your ID and look at him so he can match the face to the ID but it was crowded and I wasn't thinking so I stated looking around for my friends. I then realize that I should look at the bouncer so I turn to him. This fool says to me "Next time don't fucking waste my time and be a fucking dumbass by handing me your ID and not looking at me because I will remove you next time".
Who the fuck says that to a customer? Yes I understand what you mean but was it appropriate to be cussing like that to a customer. It could have been handled better. Not my fault you got stuck being a bouncer for you job man. When I did get seated I ordered a water and it didnt even come out until AFTER i finished half my wings. The waitress was very hard to get a hold of or didn't care at all. I called the manager after I left to tell them what happened with the bouncer and they didn't even seem to care. I wasn't looking for a free meal or anything. I just wanted to report the bouncer. The response I got seemed like the guy didn't even care about how his customers were treated. Never coming back to this location.
25 cent wings on Wing Wednesday?! Hell yes I love this place. It is your typical rowdy dive bar with extremely loud music that ranges from country to old southern rap and sports on every tv possible. Its really hard to get the attention of the servers because it is so loud but the wings are soooo worth it! The first time I went with a group, we ordered too many wings because we expected the wings to be tiny. The wings are NOT tiny (in my opinion). They have plenty of meat on them and I can probably eat seven of them and get full (from the opinion of a small asian girl).
I highly recommend trying all the flavors. I loved honey mustard and spicy teriyaki. The Archie is a combo of buffalo and honey mustard. Not my favorite but interesting taste. If you are in a group, get a pitcher of beer since it is cheaper than getting individual beers. Nothing beats a shocktop and some wings on a Wednesday night!
I'm not judging the place off its food. The food happens to be good, but the service was outrageously bad.
First time I came here, it was during the Brazilian festival. The security guard let in a group of guys that had gatorade bottles. When it was my turn to enter the bar, he wouldn't let me in because I had a guarana soda can in my hand. I asked him why he let the guys before me go in with gatorade, but not me.
Security guard said, "I didn't do that on purpose, but it's not a big deal. Just dump your soda out and then I'll let you in."
Right. He didn't see those two bigass red, gatorade bottles in his friends hands. They were obviously friends since they were talking and joking around. All the sudden, the rules apply to me now, when I am holding a BRAZILIAN SODA from the Brazilian festival that OBVIOUSLY wouldn't have alcohol in it. Deusche bag.
Whatever.
Second time I came here, we're waiting at a table for about ten minutes. No server is to be seen. Long story short, among my friends, we accidentally ordered twice when I finally got the attention of a server and my other friend ordered at the bar. We realized this pretty quickly though, and I flagged down our waitress to tell her to cancel the order I just put in.
Waitress says, "Oh well, there's nothing I can do about that. I already ran it through so you'll just have to take the drinks."
We get the fish n chips we ordered, and never got the second one. When she brings us the second order of drinks, we told her we never got the second fish n chips. She looks at us in disbelief and points at an empty tray with some drinks at the end of the table and says, "Isn't that yours?" We said, "No. This table wasn't cleaned before we sat down. It was already there." She rolled her eyes and came back with the check.
It is my pleasure to say that this is the first time I proudly did NOT leave a tip for the server.
There are TOO Â many places in PB for me to ever consider coming back here again. Buh bye Bub's. Won't miss ya.
25 CENT WINGS on Wednesdays, and they are really good! Every flavor. They will also make them as hot as you can stand, no matter how hot you think you can handle, they can make them hotter than that. They also have eating challenges once a month that are pretty fun to check out, even if you're not going to compete.
The rest of their food is also really good and they always have some sort of beer deal going along with other good beers on tap. Unless you're a Steelers fan don't bother trying to go during a game, it is crazy packed. Being a fan I don't mind it at all, but fair warning for the rest of you.
And they have free peanuts and you can just sweep the shells on the floor. I like that.
Dive bar...putting that in the name with let you lower the bar and forgive quite a bit it seems. I came with coupons too...2 for 1 beers! Woohoo! Needless to say, I arrived on a hot Padres Saturday and no seating to be found, it's ok....beer is half-free and at least it's not raining!
Basically you just have to take this place at face value and don't expect much...you'll be pleasantly surprised!
25 cent wings!
They're SUPPERR yummy! My friends and I got 5 from each flavor and I liked honey mustard and teriyaki the best :)
The peanuts are yummy too... and they're free! ;) haha
(I'm asian, go figure I would know this right??
just kidding
was that racist? #dasracist #notsorry #thisisnttwitter)
Went around 6pm. hella traffic going there but once we were there it was easy to sit down and not too busy... maybe because ucsd is out? idk
I like going somewhere where I can order a drink and the bartender knows what they are doing. Â All of my drinks were great (let's not discuss how many). Good, dirty, divey fun. O.K. wings. Â Good price. Â Good beer.
Pros: Strong drinks. Â Did not have to wait for service.
Cons: None really.
Came here last night for the Wing Wednesday specials and it was fun and the food/prices were great.
They have several types of wing sauces to choose from and they are all a quarter a wing. They have several flavors including teriyaki, spicy teriyaki, buffalo, BBQ, spic bbq and archie flavor. I was a little skeptical of the archie but it was actually one of my favorites. The wings come in groups of 5 or 10. So every 5 wings you can have a different sauce and try them all if you want. They will not do more than 10 wings per person at a time but you can always order more.
This months beer of the month is Big Wave by Kona. It was only $12 for a pitcher which is a great deal given that this is a spcial beer compared to Coors or Miller.
We were able to find a seat after a few minutes and the service was great. We got our wings in no time and it was fun. I recommend this as everyone's Wednesday spot if you are hungry and want good food or want to bring a group of friends.
**** 3.5 stars ****
I feel like calling yourself a dive bar sort of takes away from your dive-y cred, yeah? I wish that I were a San Diego native (well, for many other more important reasons) so that I could really see Bub's the way some of my friends here describe it. Knowing that it's a Steeler bar (and a rather famous one at that) adds some automatic cool points as a fan, but alas I visited during the end of June, when football is just close enough to tease you. As it stands our experience at Bub's was enjoyable, but mainly because we had already had quite a bit of fun (and alcohol) at Duck Dive, which just extended to here.
Peanuts all over the tables and floors always reminds me of awful chain restaurants that are usually called "something Roadhouse", so seeing the carcasses that covered Bub's instantly turned me off. I can only imagine what folks who have peanut allergies think when entering this place (not that I care, but this must be a small personal Hell for them). The ridiculous lights and signs all over the place also belie the dive bar moniker, leaning more towards something out of a T.G.I. Friday's gone rogue.
Fortunately, they did get one aspect of the dive bar manifesto correct, good strong drinks served cheap. If I recall correctly, a Bulleit (they had both the regular bourbon and the rye) and ginger only ran me $5 a piece, which led to me consuming many more than intended after Elle discovered just how inexpensive they were, and how much she wanted to go back to the bar for more herself. Our new Korean friends from Samsung buying rounds as well only added to the real appreciation for Bub's. It's true that when you have a great time your reflection of a place can change slightly.
If you're reading this review on the Yelp app then you probably already know about the free tater tot check-in offer, but if not, just count that as one of the bonus reasons to stumble over here when you're past the point of being critical about the establishment you're going to drink in...trust me, they help (and coincidentally, they're actually not all that bad).
I hate spicy food but I could not stop eating the archie wings! wing wed is the best! 2 pitchers and 30 wings for about $31 split between 5 of us.
had trouble finding a table at first (arrived around 7 i think) and we waited for a good while before we saw a group paying so we headed over there and as soon as they got up, another group that arrived after us quickly sat down! they said that you have to ask the group before you if you can take their table and that just waiting beside it isnt enough. luckily the waitress waiting on that table saw what happened and kicked that group off because she knew we were there first.
there were a few empty tables when we left around 8:30-9 so id suggest going a little later or else be sure to ask people to give their tables to you so there's no confusion while youre waiting!
WEDNESDAYS -25cent wings what a DEAL.. ALLL DIFFERENT TYPE OF FLAVORS. Â what a great way to promote a local bar in PB. Â
A couple friends came to meet me here when I first arrived to PB, at first im like eh this place is kinda like wow really this is bar, but as the night stroll along this was a place to be when you are drinking and eating.
Crowd- mixture of different kind of people, older and younger. Â VERY FRIENDLY people here especially the servers. Â It did get a little crowded so the service got a little slow while we were waiting to orders some more drinks. Â
Drinks-still a little expensive but chicken wings were cheap so it balanced it out. Â There was a yelp coupon when I ordered so that was a PLUS!
Nice place to chill and have a drink or two! would definitely come back if i was in the area on a wednesday night! =)
Wednesday wings.: Wings for 25 cents
Warning: Can't take leftover wings in a to-go box on Wednesday because they're so cheap. So order a few to begin with and if you finish all those wings, then go and order some more. I ordered 15 wings and it was really painful to finish off in terms of fullness. That and they were just alright.
You can only order in fives so I ordered
5 "Ring of fire" - what a kick...so spicy...but pretty good (and your lips will be burning for sureeeeeeee)
5 Archie (mix of honey? glazed and buffalo) - not too bad or bland
5 Spicy Teriyaki - eh does taste like teriyaki, but I'd rather elsewhere to get teriyaki chicken
My friends ordered pretty much every wing they had so I got to try them almost all of them. I liked the buffalo wings, but everything else was kind of just bland to me. It could have been that eating those hot wings first made everything bland in comparison.
Also, I think they recently implemented some rule that if you are to order the wings, you must also order a drink (nonalcoholic or alcoholic). Bummer.
Finding a table to sit on Wednesdays after 5 pm for the 25 cent wings is painful. Luckily today, we were able to find seats right away. I think we came at 5:45 and we just missed the big dinner rush because around 6, there were people waiting looking for tables like vultures. It's a seat yourself ordeal and if you aren't quick, you'll be waiting 30-45 minutes for a table like we did last time we came here. @_@
All in all 45 wings plus 3 drinks (2 nonalcoholic and 1 alcoholic) was less than 20 bucks. Pretty good deal considering we could have definitely ordered less wings. However, after stuffing myself with wings, I think I can go a few months w/o eating wings.
25 cent wings on Wednesdays! Pretty damn tasty! Good wings, good beer, good fries, great prices. My only complaint is that they do not give out boxes. I paid for my food and sometimes you just can't finish. I would have loved to have a to go box. The waitress told me "we don't give out boxes, you'll have to finish that". Excuse me??
So I went to the bathroom, grabbed paper towels and wrapped up my wings in wax paper and paper towels to take home. Other than that, pretty chill place!
When they say their fire wings are hot, they're not joking...they had me and my two friends in tears! Admittedly, one of my friends totally can't hang when it comes to spicy food (cough cough ... chris...cough cough), but my other friend can handle her shit and even she was taken aback!
Good thing they were only 25cents because we definitely couldn't finish them. The spicy BBQ wings were great, just not spicy enough, and the spicy buffalo were good too. Would definitely be down for another Wing Wednesday here, and they have reasonable prices for drinks. Bummed they wouldn't give me my free tots though, maybe next time when it's not Wednesday!
This Bub's is way better than the one downtown, if you ask me and I've sat at the bar at both Bub's.
I'm upset that I'm blanking on the bartender's name right now, but I'll never forget her face. She was amazing in that she was personable, efficient, and smiled A LOT - hey, smiles and laughs can really go a long way. When I asked her for a menu, she not only handed me the menu, but she also told me about the taco specials, explaining which ones were $3 and which ones were $4. She was very attentive and always asked if I needed more water or another beer. She was def. an over-achiever. Oh and if you care to know, I ordered the tacos with shrimp, which were grilled not fried thank goodness! Yum!
The other bartenders, who were guys, were super chill and friendly, too. I like the vibe and the personality going on at this Bub's location. In other words, the one downtown is um.. DULL and lacking.
Oh, and guess what! Unlike the downtown Bub's they didn't play music videos on all the t.v. screens, they had a couple sports channels on, which is what I want to see considering it is a SPORTS BAR.
The Bub's in PB is awesome in that you never have to jump up and down and wave your arms in the air to try and catch someone's attention. Before you need anything, someone is asking to assist you and is reminding you that hmm... maybe you should be finishing your beer while it's cold.
I love the chicken wings here! The honey mustard one is my favorite (mainly bc I'm chicken shit when it comes to spicy things). I like that this bar is very chill and has good beer.
Cons: Hard to find parking (typical in pb), hard to find a seat, hard to place your order in such a poppin place.
Trying to find a table here on a Wednesday night is like trying to find a parking spot at the mall on a Saturday afternoon. Â Luckily, I've devised a list of handy-dandy guidelines, based on the observations of fellow patrons' actions, on how to successfully secure a table.
- Circle the restaurant, surveying the crowd and taking note of who's almost finished. Â You can walk around slowly like a private investigator for added dramatic effect if that's what floats your boat.
- Once you've picked out your prey, go full throttle and bombard them with questions, asking if they're done eating yet / if they're leaving soon. Â It may seem rude, and it might ruin their meal, but who cares; you'll never see them again anyway. Â You gotta do what you gotta do, right?
- Stand next to / in front of table of interest and telepathically send them messages to eat faster so they can GTFO. Â Watch them periodically to monitor their progress; make sure they can feel your eyes burning into their souls so that they can hopefully be intimidated into speeding things up.
- When they finally leave, quickly dive for the table before another group gets their dirty little hands on it
Wings: Not bad... for $0.25 a piece. Â Decently sized wings with a fair portion of meat on the bones. Â I paid only $2.50 to be stuffed to the point where my stomach hurt whenever I inhaled.
Sauces: Archie... YES! Â Spicy BBQ... YES! Â Buffalo... too vinegary. Â Honey mustard... bland. Â Teri-yucki... too salty.
Service: Bleeech, horrible! Â I think I saw only two waitresses on the floor, which meant no water refills and waiting five times longer for them to bring you something.
I walked in with high expectations since my friends had hyped up the place so much. Â I walked out feeling like someone had just played a really big and embarrassing April Fools joke on me.
I swear Bub's, where have you been during my six years in San Diego? And why did no one bother telling me about $0.25 Wing Wednesday?! You so sneaky. But I found you, and it was such an exciting fling we went through.
You walk in after 7pm and the guy is forseriously checking your ID and scanning it through the scanner. No joke. They are serious here. Talk about intimidating. And what sucks after that is walking around like awkward vultures preying on patrons getting ready to leave. And they eventually do. But while you're at it you can watch the ground as it continues piling up peanut shells. Yes, I'm serious here. When a seat opens up, FIGHT FOR IT. MOVE ON IN. DONT BE SHY. There are vicious people out there, young grasshopper!
Now, the options of wings are as follows: BUFFALO, BBQ, SPICY BBQ, HONEY MUSTARD, TERIYAKI, SPICY TERIYAKI, ARCHIE, and "FIRE RING" HOT. They come in baskets of 5 wings so sadly you cant try all but if you come with a hungry group, you can just get a bunch of different baskets and pick and choose!
When in doubt:
- In my group of 6 guys, our favorites were HONEY MUSTARD, TERIYAKI, BBQ, AND ARCHIE.
- Buffalo has a funny taste to it. So unless you're a fan of Buffalo, MEH.
- Men, 15 wings is a very satisfying and good amount. Please dont be stupid and order 30 for yourself.
Tips:
- Come early. It starts at 5. If you're under 21, come before 7! Well, you kind of need to. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT MINORS CAN GAIN ENTRANCE BEFORE 7. I called them and they said if you come right at 5 there's a high chance but they cant guarantee: it depends on capacity.
- It's a bar so dont expect any romantic getaway music or softspoken people.
- Why they were showing old awkward 90's hip hop music videos...is beyond me. You're not the only one thinking this.
Random Con:
- The wings were a little burnt. Around 30% of the wings had some of that. And it's BITTER when it's too burnt. You lost a star here.
I cant believe I walked out being way too full on 15 wings and paying $4.50 after tax and tip. I feel like I cheated some system. I probably did. I WILL BE BACK. DUN DUN DUN.
STEELER NATION at it's BEST !!!
just looking for somewhere to enjoy Sunday Night football. Â Although seating is limited, if you're here for the game with friends..why sit??? Â Food is what you'd expect from a bar but that's what we were looking for. Â Service was excellent for how busy it ended up being. Â we were handed a lost but spirits were high nonetheless. Â we are HUGE fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but now even more of this Bub's Dive Bar.
