Five Stars you are UP!!
This quaint venue, nestled on the Long Beach Harbor is a hidden gem for sure. The CA Wine Room is exactly that,a master bedroom sized room with a cozy intimate setting. Don't allow room size to intimidate you, because this venue only solidifies that "good things DO come in small packages"! To make the taste even sweeter, I stumbled upon their featured deal on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FLivinigsocial.com&s=7bef42ae24216c4851e0c764853cb12775be668e15cb11d9f91d742966a05aec" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Livinigsocial.com</a>, which advertised a three flight wine-tasting, accompanied with fondue tastings for two all for $14! I bought mines back in May and decided to make good on it this past weekend, so glad that I did!
The attendants were very attentive, courteous, and informative. They went out of their way to accommodate our visit there. What I enjoyed most was that they were "true to setting", they pride in serving local private winery/wines. So most of their wines were from a variety of small wine staples throughout northern and southern California. My boyfriend enjoyed the Red Zinfandel and I the usual Sauvigion Blanc, both delectable in taste. We conversed and rekindled with one another, as were served a variety of fruits on a platter w/ warm chocolate fondue in a cup for dipping. Live music played on the patio section where we sat and roasted our marshmallows skewers. We may have not had the chance to watch the sun-set but the warmth of the wine, and simple gazes were pleasant, so pleasant to watch the flicker of both the candle flame and low lights dance across his eyes. :)
Thank you CA Wine Room! See you soon!
I will rewrite this review if my visit is above and beyond, but for now this stands.
I also want to mention that this is the first one star review I have written.
My wife asked me if we could get an Amazon Local deal to this place and I said sure because we both like wine and even better, wine at a discounted price. Upon buying this seemingly lovely deal I tried to book a reservation (as per the instructions). The website took so long to load that I spent over an hour on it just to get my name in the reservation spot. After getting all of my information entered I came upon the portion that asks for the coupon code. I entered part of it and quickly got an error code. Ok, I'll try again. Half way there, error: invalid code. Ok, I'll do it really fast. One letter away, error. Great, takes over an hour to get here and I can't even enter the damn code because the website suddenly works in ultra speed. Alright, I'll try it one more time, super fast. Success! All of the code was ent-... what? invalid code? You've gotta be kidding. From here I tried cutting and pasting, with and without capital letters, dashes, spaces, you name it. Error after error. I finally decided I was defeated so I called up Amazon Local. A very friendly woman took my call, she tried to help me out but she couldn't get the code right either. She said that I had to deal with the restaurant itself. Alright, it's literally taken me hours to get this far, let's take it all the way. I call them up. Closed. "But!" they say, "We're open Friday, Saturday and Sunday!" That sounds really inconvenient, mostly due to the fact that it was Monday. Friday rolls around and I barely remember to call them, but I get through. I ask the guy to check my reservation to see if maybe it went through. No, you can't? oh, ok. Are you sure you can't? It can only be accessed on the internet? And you don't have the internet there? He directs me to try entering the reservation again. So reluctantly I do, and again it takes more than an hour. And no, it wasn't just my computer, I tried it on three different devices, two different internet connections. I call him back... Maybe you can help with my problem directly then... no to that, too, huh? Only Rachel in the office can help? So I take their info. He tells me he doesn't have her extension, but that I can listen to the options and she is one of them.
I call their office, no extension for Rachel. When I failed to select an extension it kicks me back to the beginning. Screw it, I'm sending them an email.
Email has been sent but I have yet to hear back. The general unwillingness to help, the horrific hours, and the worst website I've ever used (utility wise) make for a deadly trio. If i had not already spent the money on the coupon I wouldn't even bother with going there. I mean, you think that they would at least be able to pay a kid minimum wage to listen to their message machine and call people back to make reservations.
We came in to have a drink here while waiting for our Cork's Away cruise. It was ok. You can get a big goblet of beer for $5, and they have some good wines. The inside is comfortable. My only complaint was the kid at the bar. I don't think he was a day over 21 and was describing the wines and "really, really awesome". Someone needs to explain to him what the aerator he was using is. Another customer had asked and he said he wasn't sure what it was, just that he was to use it. Really?
Review Source:I feel so fortunate to have experienced so many quality experiences at varying spots for varying services as of late - it has been a LONG time since that has happened and this wine lounge is MOST definitely a place which rates a STRONG 4!
Very cozy, warm, lovely spot with very kind, informative, Â helpful staff. Â Noah really knows his wine and does it with such ease, personality and attentiveness that you will not only be amazed and impressed but he will find you the wine you will be happy to expand your horizons with but also quite possibly add to your collection as well.
The live jazz band is a nice touch as are the fireplaces, outdoor heaters and personalized artwork they have incorporated into their establishment. Â Will definitely be a spot I venture to for good wine and a relaxed, quiet evening.
The location kinda was trick on parking for your first time. Then once we got to the wine room it's exactly fits its name a "WINE ROOM" very cozy and snug and also has a nice snug patio. So my sister and I went because a groupon I purchased for the chocolate fondue and wine taster. It was worth the money in the flights alone. The customer service was rocky at first considering I made a reservation and the first guy helping us said to wait since so we waited on the patio with our first flight and watched our seats be given away to non reservations guests twice so we finally had to call them out on it and finally got seated. Once we sat down we waited maybe 10 min or so maybe more for our fondue and wine. The server was very informative and gave great suggestions on the tastings we had I wish I remembered his name but he had very short black hair and reminded me of Blaine off the cask of glee lol. Over all it was a nice experience. It could have been great if the long hair blonde guy who was completely into himself and totally up the art vendors ass took time to help his co worker and give great customer service rather then being more interested in take shots of some aged rum.
Review Source:The CA Wine Room is a little treasure on the water front Marina area of Long Beach. It's a pretty small room with some outdoor seating for nice days. Interesting, dark, decor with wine shelves all over the walls.
The owner and staff were really chill and have good suggestions on beer and wines. A little pricey though- expect to pay anywhere from $10 to $15 for a glass of wine. the upside is that it's all quality stuff and they let you taste before you buy. We got a cheese plate appetizer ($11), and it was heaped with really great cheeses- smoked gouda, sharp chedder, pecorino and one other who's name escapes me at the moment. The guy brought us extra bread just because we were raving about it. We stopped off for one more glass of wine after the Corks Away Wine Cruise and had so much fun with the staff and other patrons. Our waiter even insisted that we try his beer because he thought we would like it.
They're only open Friday through Sunday right now, but they said the are open for more days during the summer months.
What can you say about the place.  They took a coat closet and turned it into a really fun place.  I have met the owner Noah and his family, they are such nice people.  The place reminds me of the small tasting rooms in some of wineries I've visited in the Paso Robles area.  I like that fact that the owner Noah will taste with you and buzz around in friendly conversation making sure every ones glass is  full.  The cheese platters they offer are very good.  If I can say one thing about the place, I know I'm going to have a fun evening when I go there, it's always the same pleasurable experience for me and my family.
Review Source:IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS, I DEFINITELY WOULD. Â
My boyfriend found a deal on amazon for Port and Truffle Tasting and I was really excited to check it out. Â We were told it was right next to McKenna's and when we got there, we passed it because the sign wasn't easily recognizable.
When we walked in, the guy behind the bar seemed to be very busy and we waited for him to acknowledge us. Â When he looked up, we immediately mentioned the deal, and he told us to take a seat outside since the place inside was full. Â He also mentioned that he would be right out with the wine list to take our order.
I found it weird that there was no waitress to usher us to our seats. Â Nonetheless, we found a cute 2-person table out on the patio. Â About 30 minutes passed and nobody came to take our order. Â I asked my boyfriend to go inside and politely ask for some service. My boyfriend did so, and he came back with the wine menu and we continued waiting.
We noticed another couple near us waiting for service as well. Â Another 20 minutes later, we noticed that a waitress came by to take their order. Â (I recognized that the couple had arrived a few minutes after we had arrived.) Â The waitress then came over to the next table and took that party's order. Â She didn't even come to our table! Â So my boyfriend quickly got up and walked over to the waitress just before she headed back inside. Â She apologized and said she would get our order going.
Finally about 10 more minutes later, one of the guys came and gave us our "Port" wine. Â It was a guy that we didn't notice before. Â For everyone that worked there, we couldn't recognize who was a waiter and who wasn't. Â That was a little weird to me. Â It wasn't long before our truffles came out, but by this time I wasn't in a good mood. Â I felt that the service was TERRIBLE. Â And instead of having a fun romantic time, I felt like we were guests who were not being treated decent enough. Â I mean, I've had way better service at McDonald's and In-N-Out where they deliver what they actually promise.
After we had our wine and truffles, I just wanted to go home. Â Forget the second round of wine that came with the deal. Â I was just strongly disappointed and annoyed with the service.
We came back in to pay for our bill and the guy behind the counter said he had been frazzled all night. Â The blonde-haired waitress offered us our 2nd round and I thought, well that would have been nice if you would have actually come to our table with our order and made us feel welcome to start with. Â I was just ready to leave, so when they poured our 2nd round of wine, my boyfriend drank both of them right there inside the Wine Room.
We still tipped but now that I think about it, we should have not tipped at all. Â A tip is for a waiter or waitress that does a good job of taking care of his/her guests and the entire night was just ruined due to their unorganized staff and slow response to accommodating us as customers.
Recommendations:
1. Â The waiters/waitresses should wear distinctive clothing so that guests can actually notice them! Â (Plus they should greet you and take you to your table if you aren't sitting at the bar area).
2. Â They should acknowledge any deal that you get from amazon, groupon, etc. at the start of your visit. Â (It seemed like they didn't really care when we showed our amazon deal on more than 2 occasions.)
3. Â The timeliness was the worst I've seen in a long time. Might wanna rethink your order of operations and increase your staff, CA Wine Room. Â Call John Taffer from Bar Rescue and he'll show you how to step your game up!
Overall Experience:
Cute ambiance, but the overall experience was simply ruined due to terrible service and lack of professionalism. Â
We will NOT be returning. Â I could have bought some good wine and truffles from Trader Joe's for a fraction of the price without having to waste our time at CA Wine Room.
My husband and I went here Saturday night on a Groupon deal,  "Wine tasting and "Chocolate Fondue" The staff was real weird, unorganized, and very unprofessional. The guy pouring wine was extremely drunk  and could barely stand up at 9pm. The other servers had to escort him out before he broke something!! Good thing ABC, (Alcohol  Beverage control)  was not out that night!  The fondue was nothing exciting. I guess you get what you pay for. We won't go back there.
Review Source:We had a groupon/living social/something that encouraged us to find this place and try it out... so we did. My husband and I love wine bars, and we invited some friends to come check it out with us. We got the brie appetizer--good, small for four people (possibly a little small for two people, as well), but tastey. Like others have noted, it's oily, but it's cheese, so I guess we should have expected as much. The wines were good, and we liked the ambiance. However, note that we went at 5pm for pre-dinner drinks, so it was quite literally just the four of us in there. However, we also went when this place was really new (I think!), so maybe by now it is more full regularly. Regardless, there was nothing "wrong" with it, and I'd love to go back once more to see if it is a bit more lively, and upgrade the really good wine bar status to "Great!" with five stars.
Review Source:This was a lovely wine bar! We visited during our Corks Away cruise, beforehand we had mimosas (very cheap!) and after the cruise stopped by for some wine (reasonable). The bartender was very nice and helpful, we were even able to sample a couple wines before choosing our glasses. We actually stayed and talked to the bartender and cruise captainf or quite a while. The place is pretty small, but is a perfect place to enjoy some good wine in a nice spot.
Review Source:CA Wine Room (formerly The Royal Cup and Wine Bar) in the Long Beach Marina, CA is one of the best wine tasting rooms I've visited. I lived in Tahoe for over 25 years and many of the Napa and Central Coast winery's came up to host wine tastings. I was only 2 1/2 hrs from Napa and would visit every couple of months, visiting many of the winery's wine tasting rooms.
Noah, one of the owners of the CA Wine Room, has a great selection. Some of the best wines today are out of Central Coast - where they have not had the dreaded 'root rot' that Napa has had to deal with over the last 8 years. In fact, the Central Coast has been supplying Napa with the 'juice' used to make their wines for many years now. So Noah carries many of the good wines out of Paso Robles. I enjoy a great Cabernet Savignon and the 'OLELO' out of Paso is one that was introduced to me there at CA Wine Room. Originally developed for Disney's new Hawaiian Resort Aulani. The best I've ever had.
The food, wine, ambiance, entertainment and service are excellent. Owned and operated by three Seal Beach residents. I've taken all my friends there and they love it. They also provide a wine cruise around the Long Beach Marina area including Naples, CA and Belmont Shore.
My only complaint is that the wine can be pretty pricey for today's economy - $13. a glass. Up in North Lake Tahoe, even the Hyatt's beautiful resort lake front restaurant and bar, the Lone Eagle, charges only $11. a glass.
I would like to go to the CA Wine Room more often! ;-)
Came here for a living social deal that cost 22 which would include a pitcher of sangria and a "Patio appetizer".
I was really exited since it seemed like it would be a Romanic place for my bf &I along with wine and an apptz. Romanic it was, really small and cozy, decent tasting pitcher of sangria as well... but that appetizer was really disappointing.
Basically a few cubes of cheese, half cup of olives and hummus, and stale nuts (sure to be all store bought). After at least enjoying the sangria we still had a bill to pay.... What?! was 22 not enough for the sangria and cheap snacks?! It was close to 30 by the end with the tax & tip.
i do believe this place has good wine selection and all, but that deal was not worth it.
I came across this little gem while looking for a relaxing, open mic style lounge for a date night with the gf. I thought about taking her to District Wine (which I like) but I wanted the place to have a more chill, 'on the water' kind of feel- downtown Long Beach unfortunately provides anything but that feeling.
Atmosphere: When they say CA Wine 'Room' they're being quite literal. This place is literally a room laced with wine racks and really cool wine and nautical themed decor which renders an overall feeling of warmth and intimacy. They have recently altered the layout a bit positioning the bar/registar area more toward the entrance, and the back of the bar now has an open window facing out toward the new patio area. This really has helped expand the space (as much as it could be expanded) and relieve some of the congestion I'm sure they have experienced in the past. Good move! The dim overhead lighting and color changing LEDs to accent the wine racks and coves are a nice touch as well.
Liquids: As the title implies, this is primarily a wine place. However, they also have a small selection of beer. The Wine selection is pretty extensive to say the least- a very nice spread of reds, whites and even freshly made sangria. Seems you really can't go wrong with what you pick. The beer, while better than most places leaves something to be desired for someone like me. If I were to make a suggestion- it would be to have 4 categories to fulfill at all times with the beer: a Bock/Pilsner/Lager, an IPA/DIPA (preferably imperial or oaked), a stout/porter, and a barley wine. Once you establish those slots, interchange them to keep the taste and brand variety going. I think this will expand your audience to connoisseurs of both the grape, and hop variety.
Food: Tapas style is great for a spot like this. Small portion finger foods that keep that intimate/communale feel of the venue. While the menu is not huge, the options are quite good. We've sampled a few items on the menu and have always been pleased. If you're looking for quantity over quality however, you may be disappointed.
Entertainment: One of my fav features of this place is that they have live music pretty much all the time. Our first visit was accompanied with a bunch of old Tom Waits tunes being played on the baby grand they used to have. They have now replaced the baby grand with an upright piano (probably to save room). Either way, the live music adds to the relaxing feel behind the atmosphere and decor.
This is a great place. Whether you come for the food, or just a glass of wine and some tunes, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Fellas- this is a perfect spot to take a date...just saying.
Cheers.
LOCATION & AMBIANCE
We discovered this little spot through a LivingSocial deal. It took us a while driving around the parking lot to find the wine room, which only had a dimly lit sign in the front. Our first impression was that the place was a lot smaller than we originally thought from the pictures on Yelp. It is what it is, a CA Wine *ROOM*, literally. Lesson learned - pictures can be deceiving. The storefront picture is taken from the doorway, and is literally that size. Even then, I did love the atmosphere there. It's dark, romantic, and intimate - a great place to take a date before or after dinner.
WINE & CHEESE
We ordered the a pitcher of sangria and a cheese plate per LivingSocial deal. The sangria was aromatic, but very light. It's nothing close a strong Spanish Sangria. The cheese plate was a let down. In addition to the hummus and olives, they had cheddar cheese cubes and pepper jack shavings. I was expecting something more artisan, not Lunchable cheese. Brie, manchego, gouda would have been better. Their wine selection was small and pricey. Some of the glass of wine were $10.
STORE HOURS
The worst part. ** It's only open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday AFTER 5pm. ** We didn't use our LivingSocial deal until the last day because we had to keep putting it off because of their limited store hours.
OVERALL
- Romantic spot if you happen to be in the area on a Thurs-Sunday night.
- I've been to a couple wine bars in Long Beach, and all failed short of expectation. This was no exception. The quest to a quality LB wine bar continues...
Best place for a romantic evening with your love one. Â My girlfriend and I stopped off here to cap our Saturday night date over glasses of Merlot and live music provided by someone on a electric guitar playing tunes that enhance the atmosphere of romance, all backup by attentive service by the wine keep who knew his wines. Scored major brownie points with my girlfriend and will be coming back here for sure. Â
Romantic evening tip: go for a walk around the nearby Marina first and stop off here for wine...
Magic is in the air every time you walk into the CA Wine Room.
The smell of wooden wine racks, deep red wine and fresh baked pizza also stains your sense of smell, while 10 to 20 guests on a typical night, cheers laugh and spend the evening relaxing around the piano or cuddling with heated seating outside.
Everything on the menu is delicious, and they have great wine for reasonable rates. Better to buy by the bottle than by the glass, or you can pay a $15 corkage to bring in your own.
Over all great location and atmosphere!
I had purchased a Google Offer for CA Wine Room, so a friend and I went. We had the sangria (very yummy) and baked brie (delicious). It's a cute little place with very attentive and friendly staff. We sat out on the patio and eventually started to get chilly...one of them offered us his coat. :)
I would definitely recommend this place. It's small, great for a date or just to sit and enjoy some good wine and apps.
Really cute place! Went there this past weekend with a livingsocial deal for 2 pitchers if beer and a patio platter. It was super tasty and the beers were great! We got there early (around 9pm) and the place was nearly empty, which was great because we were able to get a seat before the place filled up. The waiters were super attentive, knowledgable and friendly. We ended up getting some sangria as well which was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! I never had Sangria before and I think I may have to return just to bathe in it. Really cute, intimate and romantic. I will definitely be coming back :)
Review Source:Roped in by a Groupon, the bride and I headed to this wine room. I never would have known this place existed without the cocktail coupon, which doesn't say much for my skills of observation considering I frequent a dive boat that leaves from the same parking lot. Well, actually the dive boat leaves from the dock, my car parks in the lot.
We arrived on Friday evening and the place was crowded, which got me excited as I assumed it had something to offer. I should have known it had more to do with the three thousand Internet coupons they were offering vs. stellar service or wine selection.
We found a table on their tiny patio and made ourselves at home, looking forward to a nice glass of wine and tapas. After 10 minutes of waiting, the bride finally went inside to get our server, who quickly apologized, but then took another 5 minutes to greet us.
Soon enough, we were sipping wine and anxiously awaiting our grub. 45 minutes later, our waitress had apologized for a third time and assured us it was coming soon. Once the tapas ACTUALLY arrived, they we pretty, pretty darn good. However, the time it had taken to get them was a serious buzz kill.
So, in a world of wine bars and places to burn your ever shrinking disposable income, this place has a long way to go before I would consider heading back...
The location is very small, probably seats no more than 15-20 people. We went on a Friday night but unfortunately there was no live entertainment. Â Nice ambiance for a date or some quality catching time with friends.
Prices are a bit high. We had the meat & cheese (two different kinds of each along with pieces of bread) platter along with a bottle of wine (Groupon Deal). One of the meats on the platter was mostly fat...it was disgusting. Â For a place that actually calls itself "WineRoom" they don't have a large selection of wines, decent but not large.
We asked for glasses of water as soon as we walked in...lets say that we asked for them for a total of 3 times and finally over an hour later we got them. Keep in mind this place was NOT full, there isn't much to operating this business (as they only serve non-mixed drinks and a handful of tapas) so why someone couldn't handle a simple task of bringing water was very baffling. They didn't tell us about any featured wines but I did over hear them tell a couple next to us. The only thing we were told was that some of the wine bottles were not in stock so to keep that in mind once we made our selection.
In addition, the couple next to us didn't seem pleased that after they had asked for their check they had not received it, the gentleman actually had to get up and ask for the check from the waiter.
Definitely will NOT return....sad because this place has potential.
After trying out this wine bar on numerous occasions, we have concluded that it just doesn't work. The inital welcome is always friendly, the owner, wine expert obviously knows a lot about wine, but the wines are no bargain and do not come here with even the slightest hunger. The several times we were there, the service deteriorated after we selected our wine and food. The wine always took a while to arrive and the food has taken forty five minutes or more. Remember we are talking tappas, nothing fancy. There were waitresses floating around who obviously were not trusted enough to take orders or close out tabs.
Nice concept, but very poor execution.
Never again!!!
So... I decided to give this place another try. I love the location of this place, and the decor inside, you know it's a wine bar despite the really small space.
They've made a couple of changes. First the coffee bar/cafe day business is gone. Probably a good thing, it just didn't work. They have put up a railing outside to allow then to have a "patio" area with outdoor seating. That's a nice addition.
Apparently with the departure of the coffee bar a new partner was brought in. The food (tapas only) here has improved, but a couple of items were less than impressive. We ordered Brie in a cast iron skillet that was swimming in oil. Perhaps from the cheese, but it seemed like too much to be just from the cheese. Next were ordered a panini. Instead of a panini a small pizza showed up. We politely stated that was not what we ordered. They comp'ed the pizza and went to prepare the panini. Both the panini and pizza were good. A big improvement over the Brie.
Service... Horrible! We sat outside and it took almost 10 minutes for us to be acknowledged. Then another 10 minutes to get menus. The Brie came out a bit slowly but the next item took like 20 minutes and the panini another 10 minutes.
I ordered a glass of Stepping stone Syrah, a good but not necessarily a great wine my wife ordered a a red flight of 3 wines. My glass arrived first and my wife's flight arrived 10 minutes later.
Wine selection has not changed, at leat not that I could see. Their wine selection is way too small for a wine bar. I would estimate maybe 15-20 wines at least on the menu I saw. Plus nothing really stood out. I like the Syrah I tried but I was looking for something new. My wife's flight was either two Cabs and a Merlot or a Zin, the server wasn't sure. All three were ok to down right bad.
Stemware (aka glasses) my Syrah was served in a goblet style glass... Like a Chardonnay/Montrchet style glass. The walls of the glass were not very tall so I could not swirl my wine and enjoy the nose. Â The rim of the glass was very thick indicating a lower quality glass. As I drank my wine I realized the glass had a white haze to it. Not necessarily dirty but like mineral deposits. For me the glass is very important to enjoying a good glass of wine and the glasses here just ruined it for me.
If I were going to make some suggestions on improving the place, here is what I would say, put the chef in the kitchen (he was also acting as the server), that is where he belongs. Hire a couple of servers who know wine, can talk about it and make recommendations to customers. I say a couple because the speed of the service needs a huge improvement. Next work on your wine list. You need to add quite a bit for some variety. If you are going to market yourself as a wine bar, you need some variety. I can think of many restraunts that have a larger wine list, and i consider their wine list small! Finally, throw out ALL your stemware, all of it, and start from scratch. You don't need expensive glasses but what you have is just barely a notch above plastic. Also hire someone who knows how to clean your wine glasses.
Thinking about it, I was probably generous with my initial review. While some improvements have been made, the are several critical flaws that dictate my rating. I personally won't return.
I came here on a Friday night with a Google offer deal. I was really excited to try this place out and wanted to try their sangria. Unfortunately they stopped serving it for a couple of months now but they said they are working on having it again in a few months. Instead they offered a bottle of sparkling wine and a cheese platter. The service was a little slow at the beginning but they came around often enough to keep me up with the situation and also offered a glass of wine while I waited for my bottle to chill. The cheese platter came with Gouda, cheddar, and pepper jack. There were also a few nuts, jam, and crackers. The jam was a little too sweet for me so I just stuck to the cheese.
The place is very small but it is very cozy and intimate. I was looking forward to the live piano music they have scheduled every Friday but unfortunately they didn't have anyone booked. It was fine without it because I just ended up spending the whole time talking to my friends. This is definitely a great place to take a date and spend a couple of hours enjoying wine in a great setting. I didn't try they paninis but they sure sounded delicious.
Parking is free for 2 hours and they also validate. If you stay late enough, the gates will probably be up and you don't have to worry about it.
If there was an option to give zero stars then this one deserves it. So disappointed...I spent 30 dollars on a "living social special" to get two, less than mediocre, glasses of wine and a cheese platter that pretty much consisted of cheddar cheese and salted nuts. I know for a fact I could find a better quality cheese platter and bottle of wine at Ralph's for less than 30.
And to top it off, the service was terrible. The 'wine' tender was definitely more consumed with his own "wine tastings" than providing any type of actual service. It took 45 minutes to get two glasses of wine and a cheese platter. Definitely warned friends against this place.
If you want good service and good wine, go to the wine bars off of 4th street.
I would have never known about this place if my friend Michelle W. hadn't invited me to go celebrate with her on her getting a new apartment.
This tiny, yet cozy, wine bar is located pretty close to my house actually. Close to Marina Dr. and 2nd St., but more towards the water, like next to Khoury's in that plaza. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate, with very dim lighting. A perfect place to take your date to. Â
Michelle W. had brought a couple of bottles of wine from her trip to Paso Robles for the owners to try out, so I didn't get to try out the wines they offered here. I learned that they only carry California wines though, and not like from the big places, but more from the little wineries.
I'm not much of a wine person - I'm more of a whisky/scotch kind of girl (I like my whisky old enough to buy its own whisky; the older the better), but it was good to know that not only do they offer wine here, but they offer different kinds of beer as well.
Michelle and I also hadn't eaten so we were pretty excited to hear that their kitchen is now open late and they had a huge selection of paninis to choose from. We both ended up ordering something - I believe mine was the roast beef panini, with tomatoes and some other stuff. I forget because I was pretty hungry and just wolfed it down. It was a lot though, because I could only finish half of it.
Service is awesome here. The owners, Noah and Nathan, are absolutely adorable and super nice. They know what they're talking about. I'm pretty sure I can learn and appreciate it a lot more from them. Their cook, I think Zachariah was his name, is pretty cool too. His paninis were delicious.
I would definitely come back here again and recommend others to do so.
The first time I was here they were playing Hook on a pull down screen so loudly that my friends and I had to shout to hear each other... And we were the only customers in there! We asked the owner a few times if he would mind turning it down, but to no avail. He was watching.
Other customers came in, made a comment about the movie being loud, turned around and walked out. I wish I had followed! Way too pricey for that kind of service...
CA WineRoom is a hole in the hall located in the Seaport Village. Â It's not well marked so you have to kind of look for it. Â The inside is pretty tiny, but has a good feel to it and has some character. Â They also have a pianist that comes in, but we missed it. Â
We came in on the Groupon special which included a $25 bottle of wine and $15 meat and cheese platter. Â We prices for most of the wines are steep. Â They have a few offerings in the mid $20 range, but most were $40 and up. Â We were offered two samples for two different reds that was in the $30 range. Â They were generous samples to say the least. Â We went with the mixed red, unfortunately I don't recall the name of the vineyard, but it was very good.
The meat and cheese platter also had generous portions of two different types of cheeses and a meat. Â The cheeses were standard and nothing special as was the meat. Â
Overall, a good value, at least for the Groupon special they had going. Â They are also right next to a Passport stop which makes getting in and out very easy.
I'm a woman of my word and I told the owner I'd give there place a 5
Now with that said I will tell you the pros and cons with no bias
I had a groupon for either a pitcher of sangria or a choice between 2 bottles and a small plate platter (up to $15)
--Food: Â Mehh... there was no option for the platter, which I assumed there would have been considering its a wine place. Made me sad... the cheese was a typical american cheddar and pre-cut (Not something I'd expect)
I got soup as well and it went cold really fast because it was in a glass bowl :/
--Service: Great upbeat and very accommodating staff (they were out of sangria and waived a fee so I could drink something else I liked)
They gave me extra corks too! I should add that I collect them
--Ambience: FARRRR more amazing at night, I love the feeling inside and it would make a great date night
Sooo at the end I wouldn't come here for the food but to drink wine and gossip or go on a date. :P
Hope this helps
Stopped by while waiting for a wine cruise around the Long Beach harbor. Â The staff and piano player were incredibly friendly, helpful, and downright fun to hang out with, while the wine selection was incredible. Â Some of the best wine selections from California wine (not to mention beers), you are sure to have an amazing glass. Â Not to mention the location at the harbor...great for a romantic walk after a glass of wine (or two!)
Highly recommended.
