My wife and I really enjoy this place, but you have to know what you are getting when you go in. Â Wake up, people, they serve SMALL plates. Â You're not getting a full rack of lamb for $12. Â
That being said, the lamb that I had last night was wonderful. Â It could have used just a little bit more salt, but overall it was seasoned nicely and the olive oil mashed potatoes were quite good. Â My wife had a goat cheese and arugula salad with a raspberry dressing that she just adored.
If you want to spring for an appetizer, go for the "Breads and Spreads". Â It's excellent. Â This is a nice place for a quick bite to eat, but not quite quiet enough for a romantic dinner for two.
Seems like a nice place to hang out on a beautiful day, they have a lot of outdoor seating. I stopped in for lunch and had the turkey avocado sandwich with the tomato brie soup. I didn't really taste any of the brie in the soup, but it was an okay soup otherwise. The sandwich was pretty standard.
The waitstaff was quite attentive and I was in and out of there fairly quickly. I would have liked to have tried the cheese board with some white wine, but alas, that seemed like a bad idea for lunch. I imagine this would be a great place to enjoy wine and cheese with some friends in the evening though.
Delicious food along with an inviting atmosphere is what keeps bringing me back to Cafe Caturra. This is the perfect spot to get together with a friend or a date for tasty food and wine; without feeling overwhelmed by prices and dress codes.
Their wine bar offers a wide variety of wines that will suit any wine lovers pallet. The management and staff are friendly/knowledgeable, and can point you into the right direction if you are new to wine (like me!). They never make you feel silly for asking questions or asking for samples! I absolutely love the stone hearth pizza...The prosciutto with artichokes yum yum yum!!! Another must try are their tacos!
Go to Cafe Caturra! You will not be sorry!
What's old becomes new again! Â Especially when I get to check out my old favorite, Cafe Caturra, in a new location. Â Fronted by a great patio, Cafe Caturra Cary does the usual great food with some slight differences from the Raleigh location. Â From the outside this Cafe Caturra is impressive with a huge sign up 30' high. Â But inside it feels the same as Raleigh: modern, clean and cozy with a fireplace. Â
We're seated on the patio by a hostess, looks like they don't do counter service here. Â I order the breads and spreads along with a roast beef panini. Â When my meal, it all looks really good. Â The panini is stuffed with meat, melted swiss and butter-toasted. Â A great sandwich for the price. Â Service starts off well but got a bit slow but this place can get busy. Â No big deal because it's a beautiful day so I'm in no hurry. Â So excellent job, Cafe Caturra Cary! Â You're carrying on the good name along with the same great food...
Didn't love the food as much as I was expecting. Â I like the look and feel to the place but I found the food over priced for the portions and the quality of the food. Â We ordered a lot of food because the portions where small. Â I guess this place is more for wine and drinks than for foodies.
Review Source:Went here on Tuesday night and got seated right away. Â We had questions about the menu but the waiter seemed busy and didn't make it back to us for a while so we just decided to order the hummus as an appetizer and I had the crab wrap and my wife had the crab cakes. Â The food was not very good, the crab cakes were okay, but the wraps had a funny spice in them that made them taste rotten. Â The service was also terrible, I finished my drink before our food was delivered, but our waiter never came back to check on us. Â While I thought he was busy, I noticed later that he was sitting at the bar talking to the bar tender. Â Then, on our way out, the manager saw that we didn't look happy and ducked into the kitchen so he didn't have to talk to us. Â Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had.
Review Source:I went there for the first time during lunch. I was surprised how the prices on the lunch menu looked like what you might pay during dinner hours. Â The decor is modern with an elegant chandelier with low table tops and high table tops. It has an upscale feel but is still casual enough for shorts and a nice shirt. The staff was helpful and friendly. The wait time wasn't too bad. I would recommend going before 12pm if you want to beat the crowd. It looked like they had a nice wine selection. However, I stuck with a sweet tea. I ordered a half club sandwich with their tomato basil soup. The lunch was wonderful! I would definitely recommend this place for lunch just don't expect to pay under $10.
Review Source:I was there tonight and I have to say that I'm very pleased with this place. Going into the restaurant both my husband and I thought we were walking into an expensive place and were a little hesitant. Surprise! The prices were very reasonable!! We started out with an appetizer and got the flatbread which was seasoned perfectly with 3 types of spread - We got the goat cheese, the pimento cheese, and then the pesto-sun dried tomato. Excellent!! Loved it! My husband ordered the Lamb Chops with Vegetables for his entree and I got the the shrimp tacos. My husband said the lamb chops were seasoned and cooked perfectly! Out of this world good for $10!!! That's a steal! And the shrimp tacos.. loved the shrimp!!! It was grilled and you could taste the grill taste really good and the spices were wonderful. Everything in that dish was perfect!!! For sure coming back!!
Review Source:Great spot for a glass of wine and some cheese, meats and olives. The crab cakes are also unbelievable. Get the bread and spreads platter. I loved the focaccia bread.
They serve 3 oz servings in addition to regular sizes, in case you are a lighter drinker or like to try several options. We sat at the patio outside around 10pm and it was lovely.
We frequent this place about once a week. Â The food is good and is vegetarian friendly for my wife. I usually have one of their paninis that are always good and chalked full of meat. Â They have a decent wine selection and have a nice little spot to taste test first.
We come here mostly on the early side due to the kids, which they have many options for and they place is usually hopping by the time we are heading out. Â
They have a nice, large patio in front for dinning and hanging out in the nice night air and inside they usually have live music that is well suited, not to loud and James Tayloresk.
I would recommend anytime for a business lunch to a evening haut.
Cafe Caturra recently catered a business event for me. Â Nathan was so awesome to work with. Â The Lobster Mac and Cheese that he made was a huge hit. Â There were even vegetarian options for my guests. Â Everyone loved the food. Â I would definitely go with Cafe Caturra again for my next event. Â I had lunch their recently too. Â It was delicious. Â I had a caramel latte there too which was perfect. Â The espresso was sweet not bitter and the milk was frothed just right.
Review Source:Very cute cafe! Nice decor, ambience, service and food. Â Previous reviews have compared it to an overpriced Panera. Â Sure, it's not cheap. Â Tried their margharita pizza for $11, which was made fresh, tasted great and was a filling meal. Â Usually for an $11 lunch I expect to take some home, but this pizza was just the right size, leaving no leftovers. Â So, yes it's a bit more expensive, but it's worth it. Â There's a person that looks fairly dedicated to just making fresh pizza on a stone oven. Â Otherwise, the sandwiches, salads and soups looked great. Â You have to order at the counter, but they serve food to your table and give drink refills. Â Cafe Caturra has the ambiance of a nice restaurant with the convenience of fast service (approx. 5 minutes to get meal). Â Love their "marble" top tables and comfy couches. Â It's like a french bistro and a trendy coffee shop put together!
Review Source:I was jonesin' for a new place to grab a late lunch today on a Saturday of errand running. Cafe Caturra caught my eye as a place I haven't gone to yet and they've been open about a year. Located on the corner of Highhouse and Davis in Cary, it's a good location. I decided to swing on in and give them a try.
Great decor and seating! Many different options for enjoying your meal including inside spots at different sized tables, near the fireplace, large open window spaces, etc. The outside seating is tremendous. Again good choice from regular type outdoor table setups to sectional sofa and coffee table areas outside under the shelter near the windows (see pics). They also have a very nice wine bar with seating, great place to grab a seat if you are solo or want to enjoy a glass or two of the vino.
Service was good, the staff was very friendly and all smiles. Only detractor from that part of the experience was that my order did take a bit longer than I thought I would be waiting (but I add, worth it in the end). The staff takes your order at the counter as you come in, you are given a number to take to the table you select (inside or out) and your order is brought out to you.
I had the Hearty Beef Panini which is comprised of roast beef, provolone and horseradish sauce. It was amazingly and fulfillingly wonderful. All the flavors came together great and I enjoyed it...and just to let you know I have never been a horseradish fan but it was great on here. It was just a smidge overtoasted and a bit too much on the crunchy side on the outside for me but that did not take away from the taste, definitely will get this item again in the future. They also have many "small plates" type of mini entrees and appetizers as well as stone hearth pizzas, other sandwiches, salads, and soups. It looks like a little something for everyone type of menu, good to explore.
Today's experience at Cafe Caturra was very enjoyable, and I plan on making it a habit in the future. They are so on the cusp of a 4.5 stars from me, just shy of it. Good stuff!
Have to say - I wasn't impressed. Â The food was "just ok" at best and was over-priced.
And what is with the "order at the counter"? Â Either be a fast food joint or a full service restaurant....and for the prices charged, it needs to be full service.
I went with my daughter. Â She got a club sandwich, I got some crab/corn wrap that was not very good. Â I had one glass of wine. Â Total pre-tip was $42. Â
It is a shame because the set up and atmosphere is pretty nice. Â But not nice enough for me to return.
Cafe Caturra is a popular little spot for lunch and weekends. I hear they have a Thursday night crowd too. The outdoor seating is nice and the inside decor is also very nice - cold ac in the summer, cozy fireplace in the winter.
The service is consistently good. The only drawback is the walk in and boom! Â Menu is above the registers and before I can read it, the register person is trying to get my order. Figuring out the wine and sides is hard because it's directly above my head when I order (sides) and I always have to ask for the wine list. I always need a little time to figure out what I'm eatin' and drinkin'. And I do feel a little bit like I'm at fast food. Sometimes the register staff seem a little unsure about the menu and wine, and slightly impatient for orders. After ordering, they give you a number and you wait for them to bring your food. No probs there.
I have some favs on the menu - crabcakes, most soups, curry chicken salad. Really, crabcakes are my number one favorite. Moist little tasty crabcakes come on a oil and vinegar dressed bed of arugula and a tasty remolaude. This week, I tried their crab and corn tacos. That will go in my rotation! The crab and corn mix was moist and plentiful, served with 3 corn tortillas, salsa, cilantro, and maybe onions? Good stuff.
I enjoy the wine selection and the staff is always happy to give out tastes. The wine and food prices are reasonable. It's a good solid restaurant for lunch or dinner or just some wine and nibbles. It's definitely on the rotation.
I like the menu, I like the location, and I like the prices.
A friend and I went for a quick bite one evening, and there was something wrong with her food, but nothing was done about it. Â No refund or remake which I didn't think was right. Â
The macaroni and cheese is awesome and worth a try.
The cashier we were greeted by at around 3 PM was a bit abrupt and did not seem completely familiar with the menu and offered no help in helping us get the hang of the place. She seemed to be quite happy when we were gone and she could treat the next hapless customer the same way. Later a new shift came in and a male took over the register and I noticed he was very friendly and helpful.
We ate outside and that was very pleasant although the table was not washed until we asked for it to be. I did notice the indoor tables were cleared but not my idea of clean. However, the outside waitstaff were very pleasant and helpful.
My husband and I each ordered a half sandwich and cup of soup along with a soft drink and we then shared the trio of mini desserts. The cost was $25.
There is a one-person ladies room, handicapped accessible.
We are not sure if we will go there again or not. Better reception at the register would have tipped the scales in their favor.
This is a GREAT spot for lunch! I meant to review it a while back, but forgot. I had a quick lunch there yesterday, was in and out in 40 minutes or so, and was quite satisfied. This was my second visit. My first was a while back during the cold months, and my group sat in a really cozy space around a stone fireplace and drank wine tasting trays until it felt excessive. The chairs (the ones in front of the fireplace). I felt a little like stealing them (a likely result of too many wine samples).
Back to lunch. I had the curried chicken salad sandwich--it is absolutely delicious. And I consider myself something of a chicken salad connoisseur...this version is sweet and a little tangy, and the sandwich really doesn't need much else on it. The chicken salad could easily stand on it's own between the slices, but I like mine with tomato. For my side I substituted this incredible sundried tomato and goat-cheese salad...I love goat-cheese so much I would probably rub it in my hair if prompted, and they don't skimp on how much you get on this salad. The cheese is lightly dusted in pecans (or almonds)...and has a roasty flavor that is truly unique. LOVED it. On a sidenote, they have the little glass Coca Cola bottles...which was my beverage of choice. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Coke just tastes better out of the old-fashioned glass bottle, and the kid in me still gets excited about stuff like this. Call me a weirdo. I took an order of Macaroni and Cheese with me to devour over my computer (which I did less than an hour later at work), and it did not disappoint...very cheesy, and different. In the good way--it has a light breading on top, they use rotini pasta instead of actual macaroni, and the cheese is nice and thick. It cannot QUITE compete with my two picks for favorite Mac and Cheese in the Triangle (which I will not name drop here...), but it can easily hold its own.
This is a great place to not only dine alone like I did this time, but to bring clients, friends, or family. I'll probably be back soon to trade the stone fireplace for the patio, which is quite large and looks to be an excellent spot for some Sunday relaxation. Have not yet been to their Cameron Village location yet, but they were smart to put one there--I'm sure it's killing Village Deli (I LOVE VD, but they are a little arrogant to charge 6.50 for a sandwich I could make at home and is nothing special. Chicken salad should have more than mayo, but that's for another time.) Kudos on an excellent concept--good vibe, GREAT food, and a really friendly young man working right in front when I walked in. I love when restaurants hire young high school kids for the ol' "after school job." Builds character :)
I came here this afternoon with my family for an after church lunch. The menu offered some delicious sounding selections, but I noticed the prices were a bit high for everything they offered (which was mostly sandwiches/paninis/soups). I ordered the egg salad sandwich (it came with a cup of soup on the side and I chose the spicy chili). I believe the price of my meal was about $9 not including a drink.
My family and I sat down next to the wood burning fireplace, which was a charming touch. The place was VERY clean, and modern. Servers were very personable, and friendly. My meal was very filling, and the soup portion was larger than I thought it would be. My sandwich was fresh and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal!
My mom was excited about the $1.50 desserts they offered including a small creme brulee so we ordered a couple of those for her and I (we were the only ones that could fit desserts in our stomach at the time). They were so cute! Definitely tiny little portions, but what a cute idea to serve small-bite desserts for those that want something sweet, but can't eat a ton after a large meal.
I really did love this place, and I'm sure I'll be back when I'm in town. Only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think the prices (other than desserts) can go down a dollar or two.
I have to admit, i was a little taken back when I walked into this place. My wife told me, you will love it, the food is good. She had been here before. I had my mind set on something else, I do not know why.
this was interesting , we were greeted and shown to the ordering counter. You can order here, get drinks, etc. They will give you a number you put on you table, so when your order is ready they know where to bring it. We tasted a few wines, my wife settled on one and I ordered a beer. We did not order any food yet , we just wanted time to look over the menu. We were told no problem , you can sit anywhere you like. I seen a little table in the corner by the fireplace, so we sat ourselves there. We were approached by a waitress and we asked her a few questions about the food. My wife knew what she was going to order, I was in question. I was not that hungry, so I ordered a Neo-Pie ( Pizza). We were noticing who comes here. Looked like allot of first dates , Internet first meetings were around us.
I will tell you almost all the staff came by our table and chatted with us. They have a very nice crew working there. We enjoyed our conversations with them. The Manager came over and talked with us also. She looked like Kate Walsh on Private Practice. Everything was perfect so far.
Then our food came out. It was perfect also. The wood fired Pizza was so good, I ATE IT ALL. My wife and I enjoyed our meal here and the atmosphere. They could use something to block out the light on the side windows.
We were told that Sunday evening they will have live music.
This is a great new place and I am sure it will gain in popularity as time goes on. The outdoor seating looked great. too cold to take advantage of that .
For just a bottle of wine to a meal, give it a try. You will be happy you did.
I came here for the first time for a Sunday lunch with friends. Beware: this area of Cary is new, so your GPS may lead you astray. This restaurant is located at the northwest corner of Davis and High House roads in Cary. They have a lot of outdoor seating, but the area inside is well-designed and just funky enough too. They have big fireplaces at either end of the restaurant.
The centerpiece of this restaurant is definitely the wine. You can sample anything - I got the impression that they encourage you to sample. However, the woman who waited on us didn't seem too accommodating to that, so we generally tried one thing, then ordered it.
The food was good, and I love the idea of sandwiches/light fare with wine. I got the BLT with some kind of delicious mayonnaise, and it was great. Friends said the mac and cheese was excellent, and the Caturra signature club looked fantastic too (I will order that next time).
I'll definitely be back here for another lunch in the future.
I have been twice in the past couple weeks and had a great experience both times. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is great. I'm so happy to see places like this opening in Cary. Goat cheese salad is amazing. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Not cheap, but worth it, in my opinion--fresh food with good-sized portions and great service.
Review Source:When traveling alone for work, I always crave a place to eat that easily fits inside my expense report but is still tasty. Â Cafe Caturra fits the bill quite nicely.
Big interior space...high ceilings...tables that are close together but it doesn't feel super crowded. Â After placing my order, I grabbed a high top near the window for my perch. Â A few minutes later, someone came out with my much needed glass of wine (a very reasonable Albarino), and about 5 minutes later, up popped my dinner as well! Â I chose the Cuban panini with a cup of chicken tortilla soup. Â I enjoyed the panini, but it's a strange enough take on a Cuban that I'm not sure my taste buds picked up on it as such. Â They use a smoked shredded pork bbq for the pork - very, very tasty! Â Just not cuban-y to me. Â And my soup was a good mix of spicy and tasty, but the chicken inside was just of blah. Â I think I would have preferred it without the chicken - I ate around most of the chicken, but it was so finely shredded that it was a wee bit difficult.
Service was very good. Â My water stayed filled, and I never went more than 5 minutes or so without someone checking in. Â A little more help than I need, but I almost always run into that when traveling alone for work.
I'd definitely go back...seems like a great place for a meal with the hubs or perhaps a glass of vino with the gals.
Cool interior space + great outdoor seating + wine + good food = homerun
I think Cary is craving a place like Cafe Caturra. Â When compared with the other Caturra in Cameron Village, this one seems to make more sense when it comes to ordering (see my other Caturra review for the CV system rundown). Â Here, you walk in, the ordering counter/menu is front and center. Â You place your order, pay, and then find a seat inside or on the patio. Â Your food is brought out by a server and full table service commences. Â Much better system, thank god!
The interior and outdoor seating at the Cary location has a much more open feel to it. Â Lots of windows inside and no overhang outside. Â The food is wonderful. Â This time around, I got a sandwich (chicken, mozzarella, La Farm wholewheat)/soup combo and my wife got a salad with grilled chicken. Â Both were huge portions of super fresh ingredients and nice presentation. Â This is my wifes favorite salad in the area, which says a lot. Â Service was friendly and timely. Â I see us frequenting this location and I especially want to go back for wine and small plates. Â FYI: I heard bottles of wine are half price on Tuesday night.
Cafe Caturra opened just a few days ago, so I was curious to see what they had. Â I went for lunch, got a sandwich, and ate outside.
My initial opinion? Â It's very good. Â
I ordered the Caturra Club sandwich with side salad, and since it was a beautiful day, I ate outside. Â The sandwich was really good, and fresh, and so was the side salad. Â My lunch was about $10.
There were plenty of tables (with umbrellas) available in a nice patio area in front of the restaurant. Â The chairs are COMFORTABLE. Â Nice change from your average outdoor seating. Â The weather helped, but the space out on the patio is really nice.
The staff was quick and attentive, a little overly so, but the restaurant is new, so that's expected. Â No one was waiting on the tables outside, so ... make sure to go inside to order and pick up your drinks.
