Coffee drinks are tasty and the white chocolate drink called "White" is exceptionally good. Â The coconut waffle is quite good but the french toast has too much almond extract in the batter and was served burned on the bottom. Â The place is a bit too packed and can use a few less tables. Â Expect to pay $20 per person for brunch.
Review Source:I have been here numerous times and it seems to keep getting more and more crowded each time, bravo caffe macchiato! my latest dinning experiences were once for lunch and one for their weekend brunch menu. their paninis are great, i had a special which included chicken and goat cheese, very filling. for our brunch experience it was very good but i felt the portion of my french toast was on the smaller side. i expected a thicker cut of bread or more than two thin slices. besides that the actual meal was great! it had almonds sprinkled atop but a bit tooo much powdered sugar. when my plate was first brought to me it was difficult even seeing the french toast under a think layer of sugar. my brother had the banana and nutella crepes. they were very very good. the perfect amount of warm bananas and not too much nutella. i would highly recommend this restaurant, what it lacks in location it certainly makes up for in quality of food
Review Source:First time here and I love it.
This is a small, cute cafe literally two blocks from the Hudson River in Newburgh. Lots of interesting menu selections and they have a separate brunch menu on the weekend. And of course, all kinds of coffee drinks.
For you history buffs, it's right across the street from George Washington's Revolutionary War headquarters. Still not convinced? I only have two things to say - French Toast, and , Coconut Waffles.
I'll definitely be stopping in here again during my Hudson Valley travels.
Gr8 Mexicali Omelette.
A quaint cafe located in not the very best neighborhood...but very obviously well received as each time I have beeen it has been steady busy.
My server was ever so sweet and so accomodating.
The omelettes were TDF full of flavor and fresh goodies...
My companions raved about the coffee selection...and me...well I had me a deliteful Chai tea---just right.
Servings quite large and the prices quite medium.
See you there, no?
Second time visit - even better!!!
The COCONUT WAFFLE was stuffed with a variety of fresh fruit - and tasted REALLY good. Best waffle I had ever had.
The owner was again super nice and this time my bf had a caffe macchiato instead of cappucino - he said it tasted really good and had more volume than a cappucino.
This place is such a gem in downtown Newburgh. Authentic food and good service in a charming atmosphere. On the regular menu the panini's are awesome. But the weekend brunch is where I fell in love. Coconut waffles covered in fruit were amazing. Over medium eggs over greens, sprouts,  Italian  ham, and marinara with a baguette on the side (sorry can't remember the official name) was beyond delicious, I cleaned the plate! Coffees and lattes were great too. We took a chocolate croissant to go and it was just as delicious as everything else. A must-do for weekend brunch in the hudson valley.
Review Source:Definitely one of my favorite spots for brunch. This place is small, so if you show up after 11am on a Saturday, just brace yourself for a crowd.
My husband and I first ate brunch here last fall, and like some of the other reviewers, we noticed the unfriendly service. We kept going back for the food, though. Well, the Yelp feedback must've gotten to them, because when we ate there again last weekend, our server was really nice to us. I almost thought I was back in the South for a split second!
If you're ordering for multiple people, I'd suggest mixing a sweet dish and a savory dish. My husband usually orders the prosciutto and mozzarella frittata (served with a crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside baguette) and I get the coconut waffle (both a delight to eat and to look at). I think both are too salty and too sweet respectively on their own, but when you eat them together, it's pretty magical. =)
Drip coffee is pretty good here, but the lattes are better at 2 Alices in Cornwall.
Probably the best food I had up in the Hudson Valley... Â and some say they don't like kids but we had a 23 month old with us terrorizing the place, and they had no issues. Â When the food was ready then even grabbed our friend and her kid which were across the street in the George Washington monument park.
Everything was good and was at least 2x better then ALL of the surrounding restaurants we tried, unfortunately we were staying across the river so we only made it their twice. Â I had a baked egg dish, my wife had a croissant sandwich, we shared a muffin, and a couple of various espresso drinks. Â Everything was scrumptious.
We returned here for lunch today because we enjoyed it so much the first time. First off, we were reminded that it's in sort of a sketchy place, which is proof that it must be good to survive the sometimes-volatile downtown Newburgh area.
We started with 2 regular coffees. Great quality, robust, and served with warmed milk, which was a nice touch. We split both the Quattro Stagioni salad (mixed mesclun & arugula, tomatoes, feta cheese, mortadella and calamata olives in balsamic vinaigrette) and a mental panino special with turkey, provolone and a spicy mango chutney that seemed to be a different sandwich with every single bite. Yes, that's a good thing. We finished it off with a refreshing (if not overly pricey at $6) key lime tart.
Service was quick and friendly. There are a few complaints on here about it not being child-friendly. I'm not a parent, but I am a devoted aunt to three amazing young'ins and Caffe Macchiato just isn't a place that I would bring them. There's a real air of adult relaxation and it should not be reviewed down because it doesn't cater to kids. It has a very mature atmosphere - it just wouldn't work as well if it catered to the whole family. It's the owner's prerogative and I wouldn't change a thing.
Also, five stars to the two gentlemen sitting at the table next to us philosophically waxing on about life. If I was rich, I would have bought them lunch - every snatch of their conversation made the return trip here more worthwhile.
Coffee is fantastic as well as the food - crepes are authentic..we had a Nutella one - omg, nutella on anything, how can you go wrong with that? Â I did taste two other sandwiches and I apologize that I can't remember what they were exactly - one a pannini and one on ciabatta - both were delicious. Nice cozy atmosphere. We ate, drank, read the NY Times, very nice place.
Review Source:Don't come here with kids. Apparently in Newburgh there is only one highchair per restaurant. Or maybe it's just this place hates kids. Parents like coffee and hot Italian sandwiches too. I haven't even gotten my food yet and this place has disappointed me.
After having the food, I had a roast pork cibiatta sandwich that was very good. The honey mustard sauce was sweet on the tongue but spicy in the nose. I also had an iced coffee made with soy milk which I liked. It is sometimes hard to get beverages such as this made with soy at the smaller establishments.
So, overall he food was good, the service was acceptable, but it was all a little hard to enjoy with an impatient one year old crawling all over me (and everyone else at the table) trying to get his hands into everything.
An extra high chair makes this place a four star.
No. I went w/ 3 other people +baby for their Sunday brunch..
-No hostess/host.
-Waited at least 5min for someone to address me. [it was not even packed, maybe 3 other tables filled]
-Made me sit in the back, even when I requested to sit NOT next to the kitchen door and the bathroom, even when there were plenty other tables. All b/c I couldn't push 2 tables together in the front.
-Only ONE highchair for the restaurant. Lame.
-Change your baby in the car or at home. Their bathroom doesn't have a changing station.
-As the restaurant received more customers, the 1 waitress for all of the tables, I guess, got flustered and knocked over something & broke this kids plate at their table!
Overall a very unpleasant experience.
I gave 2 stars b/c I did like my food [Mexican omelet $10] & I did enjoy the vibe of the decor, but definitely had better. The lady at the bar making all the drinks did come up to us & told us that she would buy another highchair. Though we are unlikely to come back ever again.
Suggestions:
-Get a host.
-Don't have just 1 waitress do all the work.
-Don't go here w/ your kids/baby.
-That name Caffe Macchiato is the pits. Change it.
