Visited twice now for their breaded eggplant sandwich, and have yet to be disappointed. Plenty big and packed with thinly sliced eggplant. A slight attention to detail during construction would help, as the marinara and cheese have been inconsistent, but it has all the makings of a 5-star meal. Add some hot giardinera, and its a meal fit for a king. Dining in will net you some of their homemade chips, but they're nothing worth waiting for. Grab a sammie and some napkins...you're going to need them.

Go to the deli here about once a week, sometimes more! We often get the coupon for the 3 ft sub in the Beverly Review! Great deal on great subs! They have some of the best macaroni salad on the south side, only once did they switch it up the recipe, but the next time I went it was back to normal. Thank God! I would suggest you get the Italian chicken salad and add it to your spaghetti with marinara or on top of a salad. It will take your spaghetti and salad to a whole new level of deliciousness.
The homemade potato chips are also a special treat. Fresh and made to order.

For some odd reason I have never really eaten any of their hot sandwiches. After reading all these reviews I am questioning why I have never had the blue heaven before and how fast I can get there to get one!

We recently catered two- 3 foot large subs from the 95th street store in Evergreen Park.  They gave us the lettuce and tomato on the side , but only enough for one of the 3 ft. subs  lettuce arrived wilted and brown already and tomatoes were not ripe ...ended up going to Jewel and buying fresh lettuce and tomatoe for sandwiches.  Another time I was there, they again didnt know what they were doing, waited 25 min. for a 2 sandwich carryout (and no one else was in the store.) Lastly, I once catered chicken lemone, and it was just so so. I have not found this worth while at all, wont try it again .

I've been eating here since early teens, and I will continue to be a regular customer! Local guys and gals who work there really care about your experience.

I love the place, try their Blue Heaven sandwich. You will be sold!

I absolutely love Calabria!! It's so good that I'm willing to drive from the nasty suburb of Naperville to here (with gas at $4 a gallon) just to get a sandwich. To me, that's devotion.

I like to play it old school, no hot pressed sandwiches for me. I went with the Italian sandwich and a cup of Shrimp Bisque. The soup was quite tasty and I don't think I came up for air at all. I kept wanting to eat it, it was that good.

The Italian sub was excellent! All the flavors of the Italian meats, cheeses and spices literally melts in your mouth. I've really never had a sandwich that good before Calabria. And yes I'll say it...definitely meat-gasm for sure. Nothing beats a freshly made deli sandwich. You just don't get those flavors anywhere else, especially from a cheap chain sub shop.

Love, love the place. It's definitely a place to make a special trip just to enjoy one of their sandwiches. Totally worth it!

I know that mostly everyone else had a positive experience but I certainly did NOT. The staff here is awful and rude.  One guy in there was extremely nasty when I wanted to order a sandwich like he didn't want to make it all.  And the food there is not good at all...The bread is hard, the meat was dry and there is no taste to their cooked food at all. I will NEVER go back to this place.

Very old school Chicago.  Service can be hit or miss-they are a moody group an not overly friendly.   I am usually coming off the train toward closing time and they can be come across as a little grumpy and you can tell they are excited to close up and go home but aren't we all.  It gives it character so I kind of dig the attitude.  None the less they accomodate and the spagetti and meatballs, lasagna, sandwiches and salads are all really good.  I'm a fan.

First, I would like to thank the reviewers that came before me.  You convinced me to come here, and to order the Blue Heaven.

The Blue Heaven, it was unbelievable.  The steak was kind of Philly like, in that it was thinly sliced and chopped, slightly charred and crispy, as well as tender.  It had a great beefy flavor, mixed with grilled onions and plenty of blue cheese under it that had melted slightly.

I'm not a french fry person, but I finished all of them.  They were steaming hot, very crunchy, and seemed to be slightly battered or something.  They were certainly worth getting, and came with my sandwich.

The natural sodas they have come in a myriad flavors, and are made with ingredients like "pure cane sugar" and "cherry juice."  A child could pronounce all of the ingredients.  They don't have fountain pop, but with flavor like Black Cherry, why would you want fountain pop?

The deli itself had great prices.  Muenster cheese was $2.99/lb, and off the bone ham was $3.99/lb.

Even though we had to pay for metered parking, we'll be back.

Calabrias is a great deli, we love getting their pizza setups and sometimes subs. They taste great and are pretty reasonably priced. One summer we even took up their offer in our local paper to do a backyard bbq catered by Calabrias. Everyone enjoyed the food and the chef who grilled for us couldn't have been more friendly. We loved it and it was such a big help! We continue to stop in and pick up some meats and cheeses on a regular basis, we love it!

Pretty good mom and pop deli. I had the chicken parm sandwich, and wish I woulda got it with giardinara.  Pretty reasonably priced, plus, they have black cherry soda, which for some reason, is really difficult to find.

Lasagna was nasty. Beef sandwich was good. Fried were delicious. Tirimisu was probably the best I ever had. I have to come back. I think the lasagna was a huge flop. :(

Gotta come back so I can love it like everyone else.

We had them do catering for a party, and also went here to pick up some stuff before a trip to Ravinia.  Here's my impressions:

    1. Catering: Best in Beverly/MoPo.  We ordered a full tray of lasagna, salad and garlic bread.  The lasagna and salad were absolutely delicious- the garlic bread was too crispy for our tastes. The cost was cheaper than Fox's.  Definite hit.

    2. Deli: Also, really really good.  Really affordable as well.

    3. Service: GREAT to deal with, no attitudes, super-friendly and usually pretty quick.

It's a really nice find, and I'm glad they're in the neighborhood!

Authentic Italian deli, formerly of the more working class Blue Island neighborhood. High quality domestic and imported Italian staples at reasonable prices.

Carried out two sandwiches from their daily lunch specials menu. This menu updates weekly and is posted online, check before going if you're one of those be prepared types.

"Chicken Fontina" - Crispy chicken on a gourmet wheat bun w/sliced fontina, deli mustard, lettuce, & tomatoes  w/fries. A little heavy on the poupon but tasted great.

"The Fresh Tomato Panini" - Fresh mozzarella on a 6" pretzel roll w/tomato vineger, red roasted peppers, & fresh basil w/a .33 bag of chips. Loved it. This one was just a little heavier on the balsamic than I care for but it was a fantastic sandwich.

Nice families were eating in at the spacious, clean dining area.

Enjoyed some great samples of pasta made with Italian sausage, pesto and artichoke, and some locally-made gelato.

Friendly service all around. Keep up the good work guys.

It's just my favorite sandwich shop in the whole city because the Blue Heaven is just the best sandwich in the whole city. I always look at the whole menu and am tempted by at least three or four of Calabria's other lovelies, but the Blue Heaven always wins out.

But let me just admit this to you - my second choice is the Grilled O'Donnell, a grilled turkey and cheese (mozzarella? provolone?) on flavorful rye. Sometimes, when I'm really hungry, like I was today, I get a sandwich as a side for my other sandwich. And it is nice.

For full on pleasures of the carb, they make great curly fries and those freshly fried spiral chips. And their new redesign has really opened up the place a lot.

I know where my bread is buttered. Heavily buttered. Mmmm....butter.....

It's like a new restaurant/deli with great food that I already love now. Inside Calabria, there's been a remodel that's made a world of difference. More tables and chairs now throughout the interior since the center aisle of shelves of speciality items, oils, sauces, pastas, etc, have been shelved to a wall to open up the place. What a nice improvement. And best of all, still really good, quick tasty food.
