If Top Notch taught me one thing, it's that I am the kind of girl who will haul it to Beverly for a good burger. So I did it again. Two lunch dates = also pretty good incentive.
Horse Thief Hollow is a big lofty place with a number of tables and a nice bar. Family-friendly, quality food at very reasonable prices, and craft beer...I find it hard for anyone to be disappointed. The Angus burger was indeed very good. My dates both ordered the pulled pork sandwich...I believe they have their own smoker here, and my boys were both quite satisfied. Everyone working at Horse Thief Hollow sported a smile. In fact, our waiter was definitely one of the most happy-to-be-here servers I've ever had. It was like he just got out of a bouncy castle. I'm always down with positive energy. Â If I was younger, I might have researched his name and Facebook stalked the hell out of him. But I am not "younger", nor am I that kind of girl. We've been over what kind of girl I am. Stop laughing, lunch date #1...and burn those pictures.
Hence the Name History Lesson: Back in the mid-19th century, horse thieves used to hide in the woods of what is now Beverly. Consider yourself educated.
We went on a weeknight and found a good sized crowd - a positive sign.  A nice variety on the menu, both for food and beer.  Probably  a dozen beer options, 2 of which were Horse Thief's own.  Food was very good, portion size was plenty.  The place is decorated nicely, with a friendly atmosphere.  We'll be back often!
Review Source:Hey guys- Nice work! I have visited you twice now for lunch. Â Once with 4 other moms and our toddlers, and the other time with my hubby, dad, and toddler. Â I am a north side transplant and I must say I have been waiting for something like this around here for a long time! Â The food is yummy and sustainable (love the grassfed, local options. Â Can't figure out if everything is organic though?). Â And, the place is CLEAN! OMG. You have a clean, well designed establishment on the south side. THANK YOU! Thank you, thank you! Â The beer is SO yummy, and you have a variety of IPA options (my husband LOVES IPAs), and you are kid friendly. Â Thanks for planting yourself on the south side. Â I hope things continue to be successful for you!! I really can't wait to try you out for dinner and dessert sans baby!
Here are a few kinks that I thought could be worked out:
1. Beer menu at the tables PLEASE---your waitstaff can't tell us anything about the beers you have, and they couldn't pronounce the IPA names we were inquiring about.
2. The waitstaff needs some efficiency training...I'm sure they're just getting used to the place, but its going to make or break the entire experience. Â
a. My waitress didn't bring me a straw for my water,
b. Â My husband and I ordered gumbo and an entree, and they were all brought out at the same time...so annoying. Â Please bring soup out before we eat our entree!
 c.  Our waitress pretty much ignored any urgency we had to feed our toddler asap...We begged the waitstaff three times that we'd love our toddler's food asap---we meant it---lets avoid a public meltdown, shall we?...he was starving and so over the snacks I brought...
3. Waitstaff complaint #2: Â I'm not sure if its the ambiance you want to convey, but I feel like the waitstaff all looks like they rolled right out of bed. Â Could they look a little more put-together? Not to be a total snot, but they are rough to look at. Â They make me feel really, really pretty.
Real minor kinks that could be worked out. Â The food was yummy, and surprisingly unique to the neighborhood (no greasy pizza or overly fried italian beef here!!). Â I'm so happy HTH is here. Â You will be getting a lot of our business.
