A sports bar where you might not expect one, at the crossroads of I-55 and IL-162, northwest corner. Service was good, and prices reasonable. The menu is standard sports bar fare, and I had a cod dinner and Therese H. a chicken dinner, all good. It's a roomy place, with lots of televisions, including one at our booth. We could select our own channel -- awesome!
Review Source:We love to go to Callahan's to watch any sporting event. They have plenty of TVs to have every game that any sports fan wants to watch. Â
They have a very wide variety of sandwiches on the menu but their burgers are great and you have several choices to top your burger with.
They have several beers to chose from and a large selection of liquors for any mixed drink you desire.
I live about 3 miles from this place and was so happy I finally tried it. Â What was I waiting for? Â Hands down some of the best genuinely friendly service Ive had at any restaurant bar in ages. Â It's typical bar food but made fresh and very good. We thought we'd try a lil of everything. Â The burgers are a highlight. Â Get one with whatever you like. Â I suggest provel cheese (not listed on their menu) and a medium cooked burger. Â They cooked it fabulously and its a fresh thick hand made patty. Â Not frozen.
We also tried the small buffalo wings, very good. Hot was not hot to me. The philly was also very good, fries crispy on outside soft on inside crinkle cuts with a salt similar to what Kriegers had. Â And lastly the potato skins. They didnt look all that but seriously tasted awesome. Lovely surprise. All in all I will be going her for take out eat in or football. Tons of TV's on walls and individual TVs in the booths. Great lil place that should be explored my many more. It's like Troy, IL's lil secret.
Looks like they have lots of specials on Monday nights, Sundays etc. Worth the try for sure.
Oh yes almost forgot....sign in door said prove you went to Church sermon and get 10% off.....for this alone they should be patronized. Â That's awesome!
I am impressed with Callahan's. Â We were able to watch the Saints AND the Dolphins and the service is attentive. They won my future business with some of the best wings I've had in Illinois and they made my diabetic husband a very happy camper by serving him a half order of the brownie bites dessert. We had nothing but love for them until they seated an obnoxious, noisy child at the next table complete with doting grandparents who thought every scream and squeal was just precious. Why don't people who can't control their brats keep them at home? Â Or hire a babysitter? Â It wasn't bad enough listening to the kid, but the idiot grandparents parroting back every sound it made was really annoying. I am going to find a restaurant that doesn't allow children and give them ALL of my business. Quiet, well-behaved children are fine but it seems that the louder and more out-of-control a child is, the likelier it is to be seated next to us.
Lauren was a terrific server and was quick with refills on our drinks without being intrusive. She had my wings specially cooked and they were PERFECT. I don't use that term often but they earned it. Well-done Garlic Parmesan wings with a side of hot sauce and bleu cheese makes for a sublime wing. Crispy skin, juicy meat, garlic butter and Parmesan dipped in the hot sauce and a touch of bleu cheese is a great combo! Â My husband had the turkey club with fries and he said it was a little disappointing as the bacon was tough and they used processed turkey, but off-the-bone turkey in a sandwich is almost impossible to find these days. The crinkle-cut fries were crispy and tasty. The iced tea is delicious and refills speedy. The free wi-fi is nice too, for obvious reasons. The noisy baby cost them a star, as did the processed turkey, but the willingness to go the extra mile and make a half order of dessert for my husband and Lauren's great service and terrific attitude gave them one back. If they banned children, I'd eat here every day.
Locally it's difficult to find  a place with good wings in the Maryville area.  Callahan's has some of the best wings I've had in the area for quite some time.  They are a bit hot, but have excellent flavor.  Other selections include the standard bar fare which are also very tasty.  The wait staff was very cordial and responded quickly to my needs.  I will definitely come in again to try some additional items from the menu.
