I've always been a fan of Pizza Man...however...tonight the experience negated the good food. Â My main issue this evening was the fact that it took them 45 minutes to bring out a 14" thin crust pepperoni pizza. They were not very busy, but were obviously understaffed and overwhelmed.
The pizza was as good as ever, but they need to remember that they are not the only privately owned pizza joint in the area anymore -- their service needs to be excellent if they want to keep their customers from going to the competitors.
Pulled buffet put out new
Great salad bar
7 different pizzas out at one time. Â Most were thin crust and relish. Â I believe a cheese mix with little or no provel. Â I like provel and this pizza was still good.
For a pizza place it has a nice decor. Â There is a video game room with a door for kids to play. Â
Pricing is different now. Â 5.99 for buffet and drink is separate. Â The pie prices are in line with other pizza places.
They could use beer. Â Not to be a alcoholic but beer and pizza go together. Â If they had beer this place is 5 stars.
Pizza Man has great pizza! The thin-crust pizza is wonderful, with a crispy delicious crust and good sauce and toppings. My favorite part is the cheese; it seems like a really good, quality 100% mozzarella. I don't know what brand it is or where they get it, but it's fabulous. (I'm not originally from St. Louis, so while I enjoy St. Louis-style thin crust, I've never really enjoyed provel from That Other Place...gimme mozzarella!) The pizza always tastes fresh and never greasy. Of course, they also have thick-crust and Chicago-style, but the real standout is the thin-crust. (I've actually not had the Chicago-style, but the thick-crust is very good.)
The dinner buffet is a good deal -- it's about $8.50 or so -- and you can find salad, many kinds of pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and dessert. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy and clean, and the Chandler family is well-known for supporting the community, so I'm happy to spend my money locally to support them.
The only complaint I have is that their iced tea is terrible and weak. Oh well, I don't really go there for the tea anyway! The pizza is also a bit on the pricey side, but it's so well-made with good quality ingredients that I feel it's worth it. They often have $20 Groupons for $10, too, so that's a great deal. If you ever see that Groupon and you've never been to Pizza Man, you really should give it a try.
