This is the second time that we have visited this place.  The first time left us cold as they did not have the first two items we ordered.  The food was mediocre  at best. The second time was worse.  They ran out of one of the items on the menu, yet it was dead in the place.  The waitress (who was 15?) brought out food out one dish at a time (1 minute between dishes), then brought our salads out afterwards.  The food resembled frozen entrees you buy at the supermarket.  One dish was so bad, we sent it back and asked for it to be removed.  The waitress (term used loosely) went back to the kitchen and complained to the cook about us loudly enough for us to hear.  Classy. Never again.

Now under new management (by three sisters) as Canyon Deli and Market. Expanded menu and great service. Occasional live entertainment on weekends. Inside and outside dining. Convenient location in town with easy access. Very reasonable prices.

This is a very underrated gem in Kanab.

The food is excellent and the service is good.
I'm told the chef is also very picky about the quality of the food he serves.
There is  a nice ambience here.
    Gluten free entrees are available.
    Nice patio dining.
I own property in Kanab and this is my new favorite restaurant in town.

After trying several times to eat here, they aren't open on Mondays we found, and we tried to go for lunch Tues, as the sign said they opened at 11:30 but at 11:35 there was nobody there!  We went for dinner tonight and the food was fabulous, we will definitely go back. Rocking V still has better service and atmosphere, but the food here was amazing.  The waiter was off, he forgot silver twice and then went to get it and "got sidetracked", we just know now to point out the obvious instead of expecting him to see it.  We had the Ravioli, pork chop, and the cod, all were wonderful!

    I wish I could give it 2.5 stars.  I feel it's a little better than 2, but right now I can't honestly give it a 3.

I've eaten at Canyon Bistro 5 times since it opened several months ago.

I totally agree with Jeff in that it's nice to have another semi 'fine-dining' restaurant in Kanab, though I think the place has a lot of work to do before they could ever compete with the food, service & ambiance of Rocking V.

First time I ate there was a day or two after they opened, I got violently ill about 5 or 6 hours later.  I hadn't had anything to eat for 5 hours prior, and nothing to eat after until I got sick, and it sure seemed like 'food poisoning' to me.

I went back about a month later, mostly because that's where others in my group wanted to go but also just to see if the place had many any changes after being open for a while.

Three more times since then, again usually because others in my party want to go there.

Other than my first visit, which I believe gave me food poisoning, my food on subsequent visits has been good.

To cut to the chase, here are my issues with the place, based on my 5 visits:

    1. The waitresses must be related to the owner or something, because they've consistently been slow and not very personable.  This week it took 10 to 15 minutes after we were seated before the waitress came to take our order.  "Sorry it took me so long, I was busy" was the excuse.  I do not know what she was busy with, as the place was about 1/3rd full & there was another waitress working with her.  We had to ask for refills for our drinks, and had to ask for straws for the iced-teas.  The only time our server was actually somewhat friendly & conversational was during my first visit, when it was the owner of the place that waited on us.   The other servers just don't seem happy to be there, let alone care that you've chosen to dine at the establishment, even if you are friendly towards them.

    2.  While the prices are absolutely reasonable for any place that's trying to bring another semi-classy dining establishment to Kanab & thus having to pay for certain fresh ingredients (like fish) shipped out to the middle of nowhere, $42 for two entrees, one bruchetta appetizer & two iced-teas is on the high--side of things.   Sure, the tourists in Kanab won't object, but the only locals that make a lot of $$ are the Best Friends Animal Society senior executives, and as Canyon Bistro is going to find out, there is definitely an 'off-season' in Kanab.    I'm not suggesting they lower their prices, but would providing free fresh-baked bread & butter/balsamic vinegar/olive oil as soon as guests are seated, or including a soup or salad with each entree eat up too much profit?

I just don't find a lot of value for my $$ at Canyon Bistro, compared to most other restaurants, including those in Kanab.

Finally. Canyon is a good alternative to the Rocking V.  Not a substitute but another decent restaurant in Kanab.  Modern American cuisine with a SW bent.  Nice indoors and a big, dog-friendly deck outdoors.
