Eaten there a few times recently and was very pleased.  Food was prepared beautifully and also in a healthy manner(not swimming in butter).  Got the same server every time and he was very helpful.  Loved the baked acorn squash it was delicious!

Wonderful, large out door area and a really fun, engaging environment.

We were only here for some late night beers, but I want to return on my next trip to the area.
The severs were kidding around with us, which is always a plus to me.

The beer selection is average, but considering we do not have Yuengling where I live, I was very happy to have a couple pitchers at Captain's Cove.

    See you next time :)

We had a special dinner here about a month ago. As other reviewers stated, it is essentially two restaurants in one. We were having a more formal dinner so we ate inside. The food was excellent, and that is the only reason I gave this two stars. The atmosphere was horrible. First of al, despite making reservations well in advance, when we arrived the hostess told us that our party of five had to crowd around a table for four. (huh??) Then as the meal continued, the decibel level in the room became increasingly louder to the point where talking was impossible. There is nothing in the room to absorb sound. We ate the balance of our meal either without talking for occasionally shouting at the top of our lungs. We will not eat here again.

A new find for myself and husband.  Enjoyed meal, service, fireplace and met Tony.  Nice music and lighting.  Diverse menu, something for everyone and full bar.  Good job Abby! Look forward to this summer and eating outside under a palm tree.

    Indoor Restaurant Review

This restaurant is essentially two in one. The inside is more of a quiet relaxing environment, while the outside is more of a cabana party. My wife and I ate inside, since the outside bar is only open during warm days and nights.

The food was really good. I had a the Santa Fe Chicken Wrap and my wife had the fetechini alfredo. I was jealous of her dish. While the wrap was good with the homemade dipping sauce, the alfredo was excellent. I normally do not like alfredo, but I will order it next time I am at Captain's Cove. Mine also came with homemade potato chips seasoned with Old Bay, I had to stop my wife from stealing them all!

Captain's Cove takes a little bit to get to but it is worth the drive!

We had a great dinner on a recent winter's night, wonderful atmosphere and great service too.  It's almost like the indoor restaurant is totally different from outdoor one, which i'm not a huge fan of.

Checked this place out before heading to Pints for Pups (benefit/beer tasting festival for the Berks County Humane Society at the R Phils stadium). My friend and I sat outside at the cabana bar. It was packed!

The bar has a pirate theme that I think they are taking a bit too far. Maybe if the bartenders weren't dressed as pirates, I wouldn't have to use the word kitchy. While we were there there was a scavenger hunt going on. After some urging from my friend Frankie and our waiter (who, coincidentally, looked JUST like Jack Sparrow), I agreed to participate. It was free and the winner, i.e., the person who found the treasure chest, got to keep whatever was inside. I learned from "Jack" that they have this scavenger hunt once a year, but do not advertise it at all. I guess I was just in the right place at the right time because I was the lucky winner! I found the chest! It was hidden behind their lobster crane machine (this is awesome by the way). The lobster crane machine is just like the typical machine with stuffed animals in it, but this one has live lobsters! It is $2 to play, and if you catch a lobster, they cook it for you. I know it sounds like a great deal, but truth is, I spent $18 to catch my dinner. You have to tire out the lobsters and I doubt anyone has ever won on the first try. You can just come here on a Sunday and get their lobster special - its only $16.99 for a 8oz. lobster tail and two sides.

We ordered a small beef nacho appetizer. The nachos were loaded. It was difficult to find the chips! Frankie had the build your own chicken sandwich (not much of an adventurous eater) and ordered it with a side of buffalo sauce and ranch. He said it was really good. When my lobster came out, I was a bit confused because they only served me the tail! Jack informed me that they never serve the whole lobster because they had too many complaints from people about the eyes. I was disappointed, but it was cooked perfectly (they filleted it and put it on the grill). I had a side of saffron rice (usually only served with the rum and coca-cola pulled pork) and the cucumber salad. Both were excellent.

It really is a fun atmosphere. They have a pool table, dart board, TVs, and sitting hammocks all in the bar area. It would be a great place for a first date.

The two things that I found inconvenient about this establishment were (1) you have to walk into the restaurant to use the restrooms and it is quite a distance from the outdoor bar; and (2) it was so crowded that we had to park in the "upper lot" which is a gravel lot located a good distance from the bar and you have to walk down a loooooonnnggg ramp to get to the bar/restaurant. The parking lot next to their purple colored lake/fountain was full and it's not as big as it should be.

    I prefer the mountain.

It was one of those rare, low humidity, pleasant days in Berks and we wanted to take our friends, from Seattle, out for a relaxing lunch where we could be outside.  These options are limited in Reading and more so on a weekday.

Three stars for being located at a high altitude and far away from the city, and for offering lower prices on food & beer than the Stokesay; they are two completely different types of venue. Add one star for the thoughtful sign asking bikers to not gun their bike engines out of respect for the wildlife nearby.

Minus one star because our drinks, both alcohol and iced tea, were served in tiny plastic cups. This always puzzles me because we are adults o l d enough to be served alcohol in your establishment; capable of holding our cups without an incident of spilling or breakage. So then, why is it that when we are seated outside we are treated like clumsy, gruff guests? Who wants to swig their ice cold beer from a chintzy, sippy-esque cup? Sadly, there is an awful amount of waste being generated with each and every drink that is served in those toxic, high-BPA (Bisphenol) plastic cups. I just don't get it, but if this is the way it needs to be, could you please invest in plastic washable, reusable mugs and dinnerware? I'm pretty sure they'd pay for themselves in a short amount of time.

Although the deck feels much like an outdated amusement park, it is clean and the servers working outside in the blazing heat, are kind and helpful. I do wish they would suggest or require a dress code, of some sort, for their staff. I appreciate the flexibility they give their employees but I don't want my food served to me from someone wearing super short cutoff jeans and a tank top revealing so much flesh. Is this sanitary? Captain's Cove could afford to take it up a couple of notches while continuing to cater to its regular (fun to watch) rowdy crowd and attracting other visitors.

You won't believe that this is where it is, high on a mountain and tucked into the woods, just past the Pagoda -- ok, well, about a mile past it.  What is the theme?  Hmm, Jimmy Buffett meets pirate meets Italian food?

Given the meat/cheese-heavy menu, my girlfriend and I settled for house chardonnay and french fries and still had a blast just sitting outside and hoping a bear would come out of the woods onto the huge deck.  The waiter looked like Dave Grohl.  Add this to your list of stops for a summer cabana crawl.

Note to vegans: Eat first, nothing for you here except fries and a new watermelon champagne salad. I scoured both the inside and outside menus.

If you plan on putting back more than a few, watch out because the cops lie in wait on the weekends.  There is a spacious and newly-refurbished indoor area, so the Cove is open year round even though the deck obviously isn't.

This used to be a private club called Mountain Springs a few decades ago, and it was a big deal, I hear.
