Happened across this place one late Christmas eve. No sign out front, but the sounds of swinging jazz and raucous laughter and smoke coming out of the chimney warmed my soul and beckoned me to check it out.
If you can make it past the strict door policy you will be quickly escorted down the stairs to a basement, speakeasy style bar. Before being allowed to enter the bar though you must be wearing a dinner jacket. There is a closet full of jackets, mostly tweed, that you can wear if you arrived improper.
The weirdest part is women are only allowed to stand in one corner of the bar, and they can't order drinks directly. Â For that I deduct one star.
Also, very interesting movies are played on a reel to reel.
All in all I think this is a fine establishment and look forward to returning come this Christmas.
Went to Rory's on Saturday night with my girlfriends. Â The decor feels like stepping into a basement. Â But a classy basement. Â The lounge area is luxurious, like a well-groomed mustache. Fine carpets ooze over the floors and rich tapestries adorn the walls. Â Dead animal heads are prevalent. I think I may have seen their eyes move. Â No matter. Â The fireplace was warm like a fireplace should be.
The chef/bartender greeted us upon arrival. Â Boy, is he handsome. Â Almost so attractive that it's hard to look at him. Â He took and made our drink orders expertly though he did leer at us for what seemed like to long. Â So be it. Â The owner entered soon after. Â He was attentive, well dressed and probably gay. He recommended the cranberry pork loin roast and swiss char and mushrooms but stared at the floor the entire time so as to assure us he would have no eye contact with our breasts.
The food was excellent and reasonably priced for such a fine establishment. Our only concerns were what appeared to be low moans and cries for help from a utility closet near the bathroom. Â The bathroom was clean and even had a shower in it that the bartender said we could all get in and have a post meal cleansing. Â We declined as we had already previously showered but appreciated the staff's attention to cleanliness.
Over all, Rory's is a a Rorylicious experience! We will definitely be back. Â It's almost like they wouldn't let us leave anyway!
