One of my favorite spots to go wine tasting. Located right on the water so the view is GORGEOUS! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We were able to sit and talk with the owner which was so much fun! He told us a lot about the wine and even gave us a few extra tastes! We really enjoyed our experience here. It's combination of wine and views of the ocean make it a must to stop by!
Review Source:After dinner on a Saturday night down on Cannery Row, we had a unique conundrum - I want to keep drinking, but I don't want to go to a bar. Â Next thing we know, we look up and there it is...Carmel Ridge Winery, open for tasting at 9:00 pm. Â And we heard the angels sing!
We bellied up for tasting with even further delight to see we could taste at half price thanks to a Yelp check-in offer! Â They have two tasting menus, and we took our pourer's advice in doing one of each, so that we could share. Â Our pourer was very informative and friendly. Â When I mentioned our surprise at being able to taste at this hour, she said she had mentioned to her boss when discussing how to pull in more money to just stay open later, and this woman is clearly a genius! Â They double as a wine bar as well, but I think the atmosphere lends itself best to small handfuls of people tasting, and wanting to get away from the touristy hub bub for a touch of elegance. Â An oenophile's oasis!
The wines are excellent - I remarked to our pourer that varietals I'm normally not a huge fan of like cabernet and pinot grigio were downright bewitching here! Â I was very very impressed, and enjoyed all 12 wines we tasted. Â
I definitely recommend including this tasting room on all touristy trevails through Monterey!
Found this place with some friends a couple months ago while wine tasting. Now, I usually don't like wines that aren't super sweet... but here, EVERY wine is tasty and delicious. Tastings are free with purchase or enrollment in the wine club. Went with a friend last night. There were two tasting menus, so we got to try ten wines! Since I hadn't had dinner, we also ordered the tapas plate. Yum...
I brought home the Cab Sav and a new Muscato... both amazing! Check them out, the people are super friendly and the wines amazing.
HANDS DOWN - OUTSTANDING JOB! Â Stumbled into this place when we were actually looking for their neighbor wine bar which was closed. Â This place has a pretty nice view of the water, a beautiful interior, wine bar, they sell wine, oils, balsamic vinegar. Â Paul, the Owner, great guy once he opens up and we had a lovely chat. Â Stacey poured for us and she is young, insightful, very friendly. Â We are not Pinot Gris fans, but loved this one. Â Their wines are housed in oak, buttery great flavor. Â
RED were amazing! Â Especially the Pinot Noir and Syrah! Â You won't be disappointed! Â But try the Cabernet before the big Syrah! Â Even on our budget, we bought 3 wines and might go back for more Pinoh Noir!
Paul gave us a tip where to eat close and free appetizer and no corkage on the wine we just bought and had for dinner! Â A++ recommendation, as the place sold high price 1/2 bottles of wine. Â We drank our lovely Pinot Noir for dinner. They waved at us on our way back out after dinner since they saw us from the window with their great view!
A GREAT DAY.... VERY FRIENDLY!! Â DEFINITELY HIT THIS PLACE FOR A TASTE OF ALL BEAUTIFUL WINES! Â Buy a bottle and get your tasting waved or find and friend on YELP I believe they said for 1/2 off your tasting! Â YUM!
A friend, who is a wine club member, suggested that we should try this place out. The tasting room is inviting where you sit at the bar for your tasting. The lady who poured for us was super nice, informative, and had a good sense of humor. We got to try almost the whole list of wines (one was sold out) and she was very generous with her pours. So not only were the wines delicious, the atmosphere was very inviting. The Pinot and Syrah were delicious!
Also, the wine membership is FREE! Most wineries make you pay up front, but you get 2 bottles quarterly where you get to pick your shipment (whites only, reds only, or mixed), and you can decline for that quarter if you don't want any. It's really awesome to have that flexibility rather than being made to pay for an entire year. Obviously, with that good of a deal, we joined!
I stopped in to pass a little time while enjoying an afternoon in the area. This tasting room is very open and well-lit, with a spectacular view of the harbor.
Service is wonderful, as both servers were willing to chat about the winery, the wines, and the area. A wonderful little break of wandering around Cannery Row!!
Great wines. The owner was really friendly and knowledgeable. They have 2 different tastings. One is $10 and the other is $12. Both are nice. We also got the tapas platter (meats, cheeses, nuts, fruit, & chocolate). It was a good compliment to the wines. The ambiance was perfect and we had a pleasant experience.
Review Source:LOVED THIS TASTING ROOM. The guy behind the counter was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what we should taste. The Chardonnay on the reserve tasting is AMAZING, it has a 2nd malolactic fermentation so it is has GREAT body, nice butter and OMG, I purchased a bottle, and those who know me, to spend over $25 on a bottle it BETTER be amazing. We drank the bottle that night! I wish there was more!
I will definitely be back. There was also a yelp deal for 1/2 wine tasting, also if you buy a bottle you get a tasting for free.
Also you are right next to the beach! (no direct views but once you step outside)
We popped in for a quick tasting after lunch and loved it. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the host was excellent. A gentleman from Birmingham in England. As an Irish guy it is always nice to hear a familiar accent.
Wines were great and then the best part....I checked in on my phone and got a 50% off voucher to use there and then. Score!
This place was amazing! We came here before our dinner reservation at the Sardine Factory. The worker was SO kind and SO nice. I forgot her name, but she was so helpful and was able to answer all our newbie questions on wine.
Their wines are delish, I especially loved the moscat. It's a lot sweeter than the ones I've had before, meaning I can drink a bottle of it - lol. I got it for $29/bottle, but it's an XL bottle, bigger than the others.
We came here cause of a living social deal that we bought. It's kind of hard to find, hidden where we actually had to call the store for directions! They were so nice about it though! Definitely will be back to buy more moscat when I'm in monterey!
We really enjoyed tasting at Carmel Ridge Winery and ended up going home with a couple of bottles (Pinot Gris and Chardonnay). Â We were the only ones in there at the time so we got to sit, talk and learn all about the wines, take our time and relax. We loved the location right in the middle of Cannery Row and with a beautiful view of the ocean.
Review Source:While waiting for Bubba Gump's to call us back for seating, the gf and I separated from the group and decided to take a look at Carmel Ridge Winery due to the ratings on yelp. Lo and behold, while checking to see how much tastings were, we noticed that there was a check-in offer for half off tastings! Umm awesome! (Thanks Yelp)
Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere and openness to the winery spot near the bay. We had a pleasant attendant, though b/c it was pretty busy, he poured, explained, and bounced to help others, which was alright. The reds were not too memorable and actually a bit overly spicy for my palate in regards to some of them. The whites, however, were fantastic. Crispy and sweet, I almost would have bought the Chardonnay if we thought about it a little more. Yet, being called to come back to the restaurant quickly, we mentioned having to go, and the cashier quickly set us up to go, which was appreciated - just $10 for the two of us. What a great way to kill time ;)
We were in the area and had lunch at Fish Hopper, so after lunch we stopped in.
I am sorry, this review will sound snobbish and pretentious, but we just spent 2 days in Napa and you shouldn't really come here after Napa or if you do, you shouldn't have any expectations.
The wines are not that great. They're a new winery (started in 1996) and the wines are all nice, but don't have strong characters, they're all a bit sort of "amateur" if you can use this term in describing wines. I think it will take them a few more years to find their niche. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, but when you just came from Napa and when you sell really good wines in your restaurant, these wines leave you a bit underwhelmed. I used the Yelp check-in offer, so for $5 I tasted 5 wines, so you can't beat that.
The tasting room itself is very nice and clean. They offer a tasting of 5 varietals (Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon) for $10 or glasses of each of these between $7 and $12.
Pablo, our tasting guy is an actual licensed sommelier. He was very nice. He told us a bit about the wines, he showed us the wine aroma wheel and he actually had us sniff various aroma samples, which was very interesting.
As it turned out, they had different Syrahs and Cabernet Sauvignons. He let us taste a bolder version of both, so essentially I tasted 7 wines, not just 5. That was amazing. I did like the bolder versions, but not enough to purchase them after all the wine we bought in Napa. :-)
Pablo actually conducts wine educational sessions there at the tasting room.
Pablo is definitely an asset to the tasting room. I just wished the wines had matched his expertise.
And you know what!? Napa really doesn't have to do anything with anything. Even if I hadn't just been to Napa and tasted amazing wines, I still wouldn't like these wines, they are just not that good. Period.
Me and my girlfriend went to Carmel Ridge on the 26th of May. We were on what I was calling a "Super Date." But what she did not know was that later that night I was planning on proposing. Cool right? Well what was cooler, was that we just kinda ended up checking out Carmel Ridge on a whim, and it ended up being a great experience! Our bartender was a gentleman named Gary (hope I'm spelling that right...). What a class act! He told us about the wines, about the winery and added in a bit about his background too. When I had to sneak out and call to make sure our reservation was good for dinner, his friendly interactions helped my girlfriend happily engaged (pun). The interactions with Gary really made for a great stop, and insured that we will be back... We even bought a couple of bottles! The chardonnay is pretty awesome!
The best part of this whole experience was that Gary had no idea that he was adding a great experience one of the most important days in my life. A few hours later, my Girlfriend became my Fiancee'.
I highly recommend checking out Carmel Ridge, and say hi to Gary.
Short summary- Â great location, very friendly staff, large selection of wine.
We went here with a living social coupon for two wine tastings, and found it right on the boardwalk overlooking the water. Â We were greeted right away and jumped into the wine tasting. Â They had five wines that day, plus they give you an extra tasting of your favorite. Â Its a nice tasting room too, with big doors that open up to the boardwalk and ocean. Â Its a great stop along Cannery Row.
I was walking down Cannery Row when I noticed this new little tasting room right across from the Pebble Beach shop. Prime Location.. Â Walked in and immediately was welcomed with open arms.
All the wines at this establishment were wonderful, I'm not typically a Chardonnay drinker but their Chardonnay is outstanding. Â
Tastings are $10 per person but If you purchase 2 bottles of wine which I did, the tasting fee is waved.
Paul was very friendly and educated us on many different things while we tasted.
Also recommend you try out the Fish Hopper restaurant right down the pier. Â We took a bottle from Carmel Ridge for Dinner and they Waived the corkage fee.
Would love to go back right now!
After dinner on a Saturday night, I decided to just walk Cannery Row to see whats there to do out in Monterey and stumbled across Carmel Ridge WInery's tasting room around 7pm.
Their selection of wine is absolutely amazing. I mean, i think it was the first time that i actually enjoyed all of the wines they had to offer for tasting. Both their white and red wine were pretty good. No complaints here from our party of 4.
Their staff were sooo personable and knowledgeable as well. One of the best experiences i've had wine tasting by far. We walked out purchasing 5 bottles, joined their wine club, and we're already talking about coming back for more.
I've yet to taste all their offerings in their brand new tasting room on Cannery Row but if Carmel Ridge is the same as Carmel Hill Winery (similar logo/website) then I highly recommend giving them a whirl... I mean swirl. Â I'm a big fan of their unfiltered Chardonnay... pretty rare to find one of these around here and they have a solid one. Â I can literally enjoy a bottle during the day or in the evening... this wine is picnic friendly and in the past I've given them as unique gifts to my foodie friends. Â
If you check them out on Monterey Got Daily Deals .com in the next day or two you will find a killer 2 for 1 tasting deal.
