Well, I got bit by an amazingly large and apparently aggressive boxer while at the Carolina Ale House. He was in the restaurant and after sniffing and licking my hand he lunged for my face but luckily I backed away fast enough so he just got my hand. Don't even want to imagine what could have happened if a child had been in my place. I won't go into every detail but clearly they shouldn't be letting dogs into a restaurant. I get it, it's S. Florida, it's a laid back place, but when you let dogs in you're not only breaking health codes but putting a lot of faith in the judgement of the dog-owner, who in this case was drunk and admitted her dog had an aggression problem, blamed her boyfriend for bringing him.
The manager was a little slow to respond appropriately but they did bring band-aids and bought me a drink. I was bleeding and asked the manager if he had any  antiseptic or neosporin, he didn't but was nice enough to run to the store to get some. I did appreciate that. The manager also gave me an employee discount on my meal. That was nice too, but I don't know..considering how litigious people are these days and how totally at fault the restaurant was in this case, I feel like he could have gone further. I manage a restaurant in Connecticut and if I'd ok'd a dog coming in and it bit somebody, I'd be all over that - telling the dog owner she had to leave, comping the entire meal, falling all over myself apologizing, giving away free...I don't know, anything I had that I could give away. It's a big deal. I admit that this isn't really a review of the restaurant, but I do feel like when you get bit by a dog IN a restaurant, it's worth writing about.
Oh, as a funny side note on how litigious people are, at my restaurant we had a woman call a lawyer and try to sue us because she "chipped a tooth on our cornbread" (our cornbread by the way is the softest, most moist ever - no chance, laughable even). She didn't go through with it though and tonight she came back. She demanded a free meal and drinks for her pain and suffering and we gave her a round on the house. After a few hours of drinking she admitted to the waitress that she actually hadn't chipped a tooth but just lost a filling and wasn't really sure when it had come out but SUSPECTED it MAY have been while eating here. And that had been all it took to get her so fired up as to call a lawyer. Unbelievable!
Obviously I won't be calling a lawyer. My hand healed up fine and I haven't been foaming at the mouth or howling at the moon so far.
I went to the Ale House yesterday for lunch with a friend. It was not to busy and the server took our order quickly, He was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, but not great. It was comfortable and nice. When my server was busy and another server passed the table, she cleared the used dishes. There was team work between servers. All and all a good experience. I will return.
