Not a big fan.  Food was sub-par, service was slow, and hostess was rude.

Would definitely try this place again to see if my experience was an off-day for the restaurant.

I had the steak salad, guest had the carolina brisket sandwich.----

Carolina Ale House. It has everything:

Fat girls,  bald guys, roid rage, an emaciated socialite, awkward parties, the scent of last night's fratboy vomint, party mommas, beer, bland food, tvs...

They also have a lousy bartender and shift/leader who double charged for 12 beers when we had 6. Ridiculous. If I'd had 6 Hopsicutioners and my pal 6 Dead Guys, we'd have been unconscious.

We've been semi-regulars for some time, whenever feeling like watching the menagerie and killing time before going to a real restaurant or real bar, but from now on we'll pass.

    Splash. Plop. Flush.

    Hey! What's up?

    Carolina Ale House is assey.

Let me explain. It's actually kewl because they have decent beers and food, a great balcony, and the people watching is da kewlest! Dunderhead tourists from the Westin and lots of DL dudes. No one can tell you're gay, really!! (ROTFL)

BUT they double charged my big and his boyfriend, insisting they had SIX pints of high gravity beer in three hours. Dude, if this was the case, they would have been on the floor! Especially considering that they already had a couple of cocktails at Red Fin before.

They had a shift change and screwed up the bill. They charged them double for the 3 beers they actually did have. My big is a regular there 2 or 3 times a week. He never drinks six beers!! But the staff and manger argued with them tonight and insisted they did.

They also lied. The manager said he poured them three beers and another guy poured them three. Actually two of the three beers they did each have had been poured by the guy working the shift before them. They didn't have 6 beers apiece, and they certainly didn't have 8!!

This is not the first service problem they've had at Alehouse. And both times towing the company line has been more important than treating the customers with respect. As loyal customers and fans of the restaurant, this was an incredibly insulting experience. Any restaurant who trains their staff to lie, shame, and embarrass loyal regulars does not deserve to be in business.

As a socially connected feline, I'm going to spread the word on this far and wide.

    Thank you I know.

I was in Greenville for the weekend during April 2013 and ended up at this place. We had lunch on a Sunday afternoon on the second floor of the restaurant. I really enjoyed this place as there is nothing remotely like it in Metro Atlanta where I live. The second floor was built to where there was an open patio out in the weather as well as some covered, indoor portions. They have an elongated bar area with several flat screen TV's and each one is showing a different sport. On a Sunday afternoon I had my choice of watching football, baseball, basketball, soccer, Nascar and either Rugby or Australian rules football (did not study it enough to determine which one it was). That is the ultimate sports collection right there my friends.
I was with my wife and our 7 year old son and the place was playing music pretty loud. Ordinarily it would have bothered me but they were playing classic tunes from the 70's, 80's and 90's and had all those earliere mentioned sports on the TV. I loved it!

Now on to the food. We had an appetizer platter that had cheese sticks (very good), chicken fingers (mediocre) and hot wings (pretty good but they were breaded which I did not know until they came out). I ordered their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. They are one of the restaurants that do not understand that a Good Philly has American Cheese on it as opposed to Provolone so I almost did not order it. However, I asked the waitress if she could substitute and put American on it and she said yes. When the sandwich came out they had put yellow American cheese on it. When the food runner brought it out and I saw it was yellow, I almost sent it back. Phillly's are supposed to have White American cheese folks.....not yellow. But I decided to give it a try and it was surprisingly good. So overall, I would give my food experience a 3.5 stars rating. But the atmosphere and the huge selection of different sports that were available to watch makes it a 4 star rating. I will definitely try to make it back here next time I am in town.

Nice friendly waiter and large beer selection, but nachos and wings were not good. Best bet, go for drinks and to watch the big game, but come after you've eaten!

I have to admit, arriving dead last and at 130 AM might've effected the way our service was given, but, this is an Ale House with flat screens blasting ESPN and Sports everywhere! That is simply not an excuse. As a group of five, we had to grab our own menus and things went downhill from there. I was not impressed with the service and the meal came way too late. I would try this place again, but, for the experience, I was not impressed one bit.

Each time I come into town, Ale House seems to be our first stop when we go downtown.  I was part of a group of 7 females on a Friday night.  We always head up stairs because downstairs seems to be where most of the families and younger kids hang out.  They couldn't quote us a wait time because most of the bar goers were there to watch the basketball games.  We headed for the bar.  As most people have stated in other reviews, the beer selection is impressive for Greenville.  It was a nice night so the retractable roof was open which gave us a great view of downtown.  We managed to find a couple of small tables side by side.  We noticed that it had been about 30 minutes since we put our name on the wait list but we all had beers to keep us occupied.

A male waiter approached us and let us know that he would get us at one of his tables soon and he did just that.  He was actually a perfect fit for our table of sassy sarcastic females.  I wish I could remember his name but he was tatted and mentioned he was a former Marine.  He immediately got us all refills and took our app order.  Once our drinks arrived, he took our food order so that everything was timed perfectly.  Since most of us had been servers or bartenders in our past, we put a little extra pressure on him and he delivered.  Our drinks never got less than half full before he was checking to see if we needed more.  He made us laugh, checked on us regularly and put on a little charm which didn't hurt his tip.

The food is pretty standard for a sports bar but they have exceptional items.  The pizzas are actually very good and big enough to share with a couple of people.  I managed to sneak a couple bits of a salad and french dip (carolina dipper is menu name) which both were really tasty.

The bar is actually quite big with several large tvs all the way around.  Actually tvs are all over the place upstairs.  Crowds can vary, especially upstairs.  Most people start the night out at the Ale House before venturing to smaller bars downtown.  The weekends are going to be the most crowded but it's also the most fun.

There is actually a valet for the Ale House which is a HUGE BONUS!!  The lot is small but the guys have secret places (as they called it) throughout downtown to park.  The only reason I gave them 4 out of 5 stars was that when we went to get our keys at the valet, they couldn't find them.  The guy told us that he had just came out there and the original attendant was gone.  He tried to call him on his cell but obviously the guy didn't want to be bothered.  We decided to walk to my car in case the original guy left the keys in it, which was at the end of the (small) lot.  And to my horror, there was my keys in the ignition will all 4 windows rolled down.  The poor kid apologized several times about that happening even though it wasn't his fault.  Luckily my car wasn't stolen and all was good.

So crowded and sweaty but I'd say its a win on a weekday night or if you wanna catch a game with a round of beers and a buffalo chicken pizza. Also, I will say I prefer ale house in the summer--open rooftop adds like 30+ points in my opinion.

My friend and I had an awesome experience here. Super fun and very casual atmosphere. Staff was courteous and very helpful with food and drink selections. Huge amount of beers on tap offerings and we loved the local Thomas Creek Red Ale. Standard bar food so don't expect anything more than that. Would definitely go back if I'm in the area.

I really have mixed feelings about this place. The service is great and the beer list is the the best I have found in Greenville. They have every kind of brew you might want and most of it on draft.
I ordered the chicken wings, and they were undercooked. To be fair, they were huge.  Just make sure to tell the staff to make sure they are cooked all the way.
My main problems with the place is that it is loud and crowded. That being said, I enjoy the atmosphere, just not so much with my children.

Loud and crowded. Reminds me of one of those places you try to get into with a fake ID when you're under 21 in college. And I might have liked it more if I was still underage myself, but I'm a grownup now.

Came here with a party of over 10 people and half of us got sick later that night after gulping down the greasy food here. If you're used to beer and bad food at sports bars, you might be OK.

BOTTOM LINE: Wouldn't come back here even if someone paid me to.

Great location downtown Greenville.  Been there twice now.  What's interesting is the bar service is very good with all the bar tenders full of personality.  However, on both occasions, the people manning the host stand were awful. One time when I walked in and told the girl I was just going to the bar, she just shook her head at me while she was chewing on a huge wad of gum.  Never smiled, never said hello.  Hey Managers...I know this is most likely the least skilled people in the place, but it is the first people see.  A little training and maybe a no chewing gum policy is in order.

Great selections of beers.  Food is uninspired bar food and tough to make a decision.

Only compliant is I went on a Friday night around 7 and the music was way too loud for a bar - you could barely talk to the person next to you.  Then, went again on a sunday to watch a NFL game and this time, the sound was not loud enough to hear the game.

Arrived in town late this was the only place open.

    Service was so-so.

I know a lot about beers and was looking for something specific. They have a huge beer menu and I was excited about that. I love trying different beers.

The waitress knew nothing about the beers on the menu when I asked. You'd think an "ale house" would educate their wait staff on beer?

Although quiet there the service was slow. Several times we had to get her attention to get another drink and we had to ask someone who our waitress was when we sat waiting when we arrived.

Burgers we had were top notch though.

If you want 1000 TVs for sports watching and a vast beer selection and good burgers this is the place. Service the night we were there. Painfully slow.

This place is pretty good. Fairly standard pub grub, but it's a good place to come hang out on gameday or on a Saturday night.

The upstairs bar has a retractable roof, which is pretty near.  The service is generally pretty good, considering it's pretty packed all the time.

The kitchen is open late as well, so if you get the muchies, you can have a fish taco/cheese fries snack. The location is pretty convenient as well, since it's pretty much right in the middle of downtown.

I was visiting good friends and we wanted to watch a few college football games before our mighty Alma Mater played that evening.  We headed to the Ale House and it was the perfect spot.  We went upstairs to the open air bar.  There are a few tables in the sun (too hot for this September afternoon) and plenty of tables and bar stools in the shade.  The large oval bar has TVs side by side and around the curves.  There were some where north of 10 screens and being able to see the sun and get some fresh air was a wonderful change from the usual dark and damp sports bar I have frequented in the past.  You know the kind, you walk out after your 12:00 game ends and have a vampire like reaction to the sun as soon as you walk outside.

It is bar food, nothing special per se, but nothing awful either.  We had some nachos, numerous beers and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.

    To Recap:

The Good:  Watching football outside in beautiful weather.  I love the South.

The Bad:  If you can't grab a spot upstairs and it fills up pretty fast, you are out of luck.

The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: Imagine Dragons.  I didn't think outdoor football games at bars existed.

Love the food here! Their wraps are my favorite! The other food is good as well.
I like that the layout of this one is Clemson on one side, Carolina on the other (Go Cocks). There are plenty of TV's to watch sports on and the staff is super friendly. This Ale House has an upstairs section as well, which tends to get crowded fast on the weekend nights, but does have a nice view.
I am usually downstairs, as I tend to grab a bite to eat and then stay for some drinks. The bartenders are friendly and quick, and often a riot!

The food is typical american fare, better than going to Ruby Tuesday's but nothing exciting. The beer selection is good, but it should be, right?

Carolina Ale House in a word: crowd pleaser. Last time we went here for dinner, the vibe was laid-back and comfortable. If you're looking for a gooey, high-cholesterol treat, get the cheese fries with ranch dressing. You may not be able to eat this appetizer with too much regularity, but let me tell you, it's pure deliciousness on a plate. The turkey avocado wrap was dry and had too much turkey, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fish tacos. Dinner at Ale House is especially a treat when the retractable roof is... Well, retracted. It lends to an ambience of big city living while still being cozy.

At night, Ale House can be ridiculously crowded but you're (almost) always guaranteed a good time. Their giant beer on tap selection lets everyone find something suitable. I've always enjoyed the scene here because different groups come to Ale House, which means you can do a whole night of socializing with different folks without ever stepping back out onto Main St.

Went here with my wife and enjoyed it quite a bit.  We got the Buffalo Honey wings to start with and while they are breaded, which we are not normally for, these were quite good.  The sauce was so good we asked for a side of it for the rest of our food.

I got the Triple B burger and it was delicious.  Ordered it medium and it came out medium.  Blue cheese was fresh, wing sauce was good on it and the portion was plenty.

Wife got the buffalo chicken pizza.  Delicious and for the money, a great portion.

Service was good as well.  Always there with a refill and extra napkins when needed and the cost was right in line with what we expected to pay.

The fish tacos are surprisingly good!  There is a nice vibe when sitting outside.  Will definitely go again.  The food isn't amazing, but definitely worth a trip.  The onion straws are a large appetizer, easy to share with a  bunch of people!

If you are looking to enjoy a beer on a rooftop patio on a gorgeous day this place is the best in Greenville.  Selection of draft beer is rivaled only by Barleys in Greenville.  Food leaves something to be desired, above average bar food.  Great place to watch a game but get there early.

It's a sports bar with mediocre food. Good selection of beer. Pretty good for groups. Seems to be popular as there's a line to get in.

The only real plus for me was that it's reasonably priced. Got out for $13 for a hamburger and draft beer at happy hour.

Wow they had a lot of beers on tap. Lots of TVs to to watch sports games. Even though my friend got a bit too drunk (after the 49ers lost...) and was escorted out by security, everyone was friendly about it and they called a cab for us

Great place to watch any sports, as you can't sit anywhere and not see multiple TV's.  Food is good, not great, but good...hey, it's a bar at heart, but is still a great place to bring the kids and watch some football.  I definitely recommend trying it, especially on a nice day when you can sit upstairs in the open air seating area.  Really cool.

Arrived at 11:50 on Saturday( game day) was told it would be a 15 minute wait for a table. There were 5 in our party. After 1/2 hour i asked the hostess what was up (as a few larger parties were seated before us that came in after us. I was told" we are setting  up your table now" Well my table was a 4 top and they were looking for another chair to put at the end of it. I waited another 20 minutes, A different hostess asked if we would mind being seated in the bar. Ummmm, i never said i would .By the time we ordered people who walked in after us where already leaving.

I order a cajun steak sandwich. It was spicey. My daughter ordered honey bbq wings, they were hot/ spicey. Everyone else ordered bar food and thats what they got.

We ordered a plate of dessert nachos. It took about 25 minutes for them to come out. They comped them. By that time i was over this place. Needless to say the total dining experience took about 2 1/2 hours  - for lunch!  Manager came over and talked to us, made excuses about game day and you just dont know what to expect. Comped our desserts. Just not sure that was enough for the lack of communication from the hostess stand.

not sure i would return, we live in the triangle and have never tried any of the other ale houses and not sure i would!

Disappointing. Steak with no taste, watered down drink, lackluster wait staff. Only thing that saved this place from a 1 star was my wife's meal was good...not great. May go back, may not. There are just too many other good places to eat downtown to make me want to risk it again.

This joint is pretty happening. I went on a Friday, and it was the perfect college scene. They have a pretty solid beer selection, and there is ample seating.

The menu is extremely standard, so do not expect anything spectacular. But I will say that good beer makes food taste a whole lot better!

The layout is a bit confusing and tight, so make sure you act like a seasoned vet when you find a seat. CAH is a good bar to have a drink or a bite at. Nothing out of the ordinary, just good ol' watering hole for college drunkards.

Caveat...I did not eat here. However I decided while on a biz trip I would get my drink on with a few friends. This can be summed up in three points....

The Good: rooftop bar...this is a pretty unique feature that is quite remarkable. The weather was nice so the roof was open. The beer selection is large, and there were TONS of TVs everywhere so watching the NBA Finals was of no issue.

The Bad: way way way too crowded and loud. I have been to other pubs around Greenville and this just bordered on ridiculous...for a Tuesday night no less. Given the crowd, the bartenders were pretty busy and inattentive.

The Ugly: while did not eat anything, my friend tried to order a salad. She was given what appeared to be toppings for a burger (lettuce, tomato, onion). To compensate for the shortcomings of the salad, a basket of fries was presented...ugh gee thanks!

Cool concept, but as is typical with Greenville (read Barley's 10 years ago)...the new kid on the block gets jammed and suffers from growing pains. I wish there were more microbreweries downtown that would provide an alternative of local handcrafted beer selections and food/service execution, as they would be unique and well received.

This is your typical uninspired, huge-ass menu restaurant. The menu is huge - 8 or 10 pages, and I always feel like everything on the menu comes straight from the freezer or from Cisco. That said, it doesn't taste too bad, but it's not local or ingenious or anything. It's just food.

The cheesy fries are tasty, but how could they not be. I had a salad after that, and the portion was HUGE. I could not finish it all, and I sure tried.

This place is good for large groups, although our group was three minutes late and they gave away our 12-person table. There's something for everyone, but it's the classic 'please everyone but makes no one blissfully happy.'

OK, so I stopped eating meat (beef, chicken, pork, fish...the whole thing) at the beginning of the year, so I wanted to go back to some of my reviews and let you know how they are for a vegetarian.

Here, you are REALLY limited. They have a good veggie burger and a decent thin crust veggie pizza, but otherwise, you're mostly stuck with fried appetizers (mushrooms and cheese sticks).

I'm still looking forward to enjoying a few beers on the upstairs open patio area when the weather warms up!

service was great. Pab (I assume short for Pablo) was awesome serving our table of 15. Got all of our drinks right, food arrived promptly, and we never really needed to wave him down for more drinks/food. AMAZING service. Though I can't say the same for the group of hostess hanging at the front not doing much. The food was mediocre at best, but with so many tv's, I am tempted to come back soon to catch the games.

I know that upstairs is much better, but it was so crowded that we ended up downstairs which was fine.

So my experience here was not so great even though I had heard many good things about the place. A nice new modern sports bar with a decent beer selection. Not good enough to compete with Barleys mind you, but better than most average sports bars and I like that.

We ( my aunt and a girlfriend ) decided to take a seat at the bar and have some beers and dinner. Bar stools were comfy enough and the bartenders were pleasant. Taps had a nice craft selection along with your usual choices and I optdd for a 1554 which was ice cold ( too cold for me personally but good for most ) The place doesnt really cater to a beer snob crowd, which isnt surprising but none the less i was surprised to see all beers from strong ales to belgians served in your run of the mill bud light embossed shaker pint.

We started with some apps, chili cheese fries and fried pickles, you know, bar food. Both of which were good for what they were. The main problem of the night was experienced by mu aunt who ordered the pub burger medium and recieved it well well wellll done so she decided to send it back and waited for a new one. Once she got the second attempt the burger was cooked perfect BUT the bun was about as hard as the table top and so she decided to tell the manager since it was getting a little ridiculous. Ending up with the brisket sandwich which was tender but tasted as if it were dunked in a tub of liquid smoke. Not very pleasant. Me and my girls burgers were prepared well but nothing memerable in the least.

One other thing that i always dislike is when a place has a " super fire inferno habanero spicy hellfire whatever burger " that touts it as really spicy and I end up with what tastes like bbq sauce with some cayenne in it, always dissapointing for me.

Check the place out if you want some nice cold beers and want to watch sports on one of the 47 big screens slapped all over the place. If I go back I'm gonna be there for some $2 yuenglings and to veg out for a bit. Cheers.

Ninety nine plasma TVs on the wall, ninety nine plasma TVs,,,,,take one down, pass it around...

You get the idea.  Odds are this big, flashy sports bar will be jam packed with crowds this spring.  Prepare to wait a while for one of the prime tables on the edge of the upper deck.  Main Street never looked so good from up there, and with all of those TVs and countless brew options, this place is destined for success.  Regardless of how the food tastes.

For a sports bar, the place is definitely a winner.  Two floors, large plasma TV's everywhere, a second floor roof that will slide open on warm days and front floor to ceilng windows that will slide open to the street on warm days.
Great beer selection with over 100 beers.  As for the food, I was worried there would be no healthy options, but there is.  I had the Boom Boom Shrimp Wrap.  A low cal wrap of spicy shrimp and fresh vegetables. Excellent!  Definitely not a highend dinner place, but for a kick backed Saturday afternoon, the place is recommended.
