I have tried this place both for dinner as well as for lunch. The dinner was on one of the first Fridays of a month and the restaurant was even livelier than the Downtown Bryan area.  A live mariachi band was playing and even the people waiting in a queue for about twenty minutes had a smile on their face. The food was delicious and  fresh. On the other occasion it was for lunch on a regular weekend. The Carne Guisada is an absolute treat there. I however did not like their carnitas. The chicken breast in queso is lovely. This place is definitely way better and tastier than the other pseudo Mexican places in College Station/Bryan area.
Review Source:My husband went there yesterday, 3/3/2013 for the first time. Â It will be our last. Â I ordered the Ricardo's Ranchero, ribeye beef tips sauted with onion, tomato, jalepeno. It came with rice & beans. Â The meat was the size of my pinky fingernail, naturally overcooked, no flavor whatsoever. Probably wasn't even ribeye. The rice & beans were dry, and with no flavor. Â My husband had shredded beef, and gravy. Â It was pot roast with no flavor. Â I can't believe they call this place Mexican because it had no mexican flavors!! Â Nothing had cheese on it! Â I ordered sopapillas to go. Â The oil must have been old. Â They came out dark looking with a slight old oil flavor ..
Review Source:We used to live in Bryan and would visit the Downtown location, however we moved back into College Station and down the road from the Express location. We had always been impressed with the plates at the Downtown location. We usually both get the Chimichanga plate. We are usually satisfied with it, however the last time, the chimi was soggy, the rice was dry, the beans were even drier. I had to add my sour cream and salsa to the beans and rice to give them some sort of palatable moisture. The only thing we really enjoyed were the chips and salsa. I'm hoping it was just a bad day with them because we have always enjoyed their food. Being that I am Mexican, I am very picky about my mexican food. I'll consider giving it a shot again, but only when KBTX does them for the Half Price Thursdays.
Review Source:Stoped by for a quick lunch the other day. Â Went through the drive thru, got a couple chicken fajita tacos and chips & queso. Â The tacos were disgusting. Â A few pieces of bland dried out chicken on a tortilla... and that's it, just nasty chicken and tortilla. Â Queso was some kind of melted cheese-like substance that was just gross and the chips were greasy and stale, a combination which is unappealing at best. Â
Will definitely not be back!
I am sitting in casa Rodriguez express right now writing this review, walked in, no help, table was gross, she cleaned the table, still gross, two baskets of chips still no drinks or a waitress offering drinks. Grabbed out own menus and utensils, feel like I should be paid for doing the same for table behind us. This place sucks, casa rod needs to focus on their one good restaurant in bryan. Close this place down.
Review Source:Instead of just using the drive thru for tacos finally decided to stop and try a plate inside. Â The last time we ate here this was called Polly's Cocina and the interior decor and art is still almost exactly the same. Â
Chips and salsa were not impressive, wife and I split a Carne Asada plate that came with three warm tortillas and unimpressive rice and beans. Â For some reason I had been thinking about Carne Asada since I woke up this morning, having read the entire Wikipedia entry and I think I should have just made it myself. Â The beef tips could have been marinated longer as they were not very moist and there were just barely enough proteins (cut down by using potatoes that don't belong in Carne Asada) to barely fill the three tortillas, at $9. Â Service was friendly enough but I won't make a serious effort to come back often. Â
BTW - The sign is a tad misleading as it says "Casa Rodriguez Express", same as on receipt, the real name. Â When I first listed this on Yelp it had the correct name but for some reason someone edited out the word "Express". Â The sign says Est. 1978 and that's not true. Â Â Casa Rodriquez Restaurant in downtown Bryan Texas was opened in 1978. Â This Casa Rodriquez Express opened in March 2012. Â But whose counting? Â :)
