No reason to glam up here, a down to earth jewel buried in strip mall hell.

Some friends and I went to Friday happy hour at 4:30pm (because we're all vying for "premature senior" status and clearly independently wealthy!) only to find a ghost town.

As I'm never really at HH to people watch, be a pick up artist, etc., this did not bother me.

They have a few varieties of wine for 5 bucks, well drinks for 5 bucks, and Fire Tire, Sam Adams and another brew for 4 dollars.

The appetizer list is significant and we ordered almost all of them. Of particular fancy:

*The bruschetta with feta (rhyme not intentional)
*The wild mushroom mac n cheese (worth the 184363636 calories)
*The Cajun fries

I always want to end these with Go. Eat. Win. So there. I did.

Chblis Food and Wine is as good as it gets. For large parties or intimate dinners on the secluded side patio, you will not be disappointed. We hosted a graduation party for about 40 people last month and this was the perfect venue. Hand passed appetizers and cocktails and wine was served with the resident jazz saxaphonist playing softly in the background. Saied prepared a fantastic buffet for us with Salmon, pasta 2 types of salad vegetables and potatoes all for a very reasonabe price per person. They even prepared sliders and fries for the kids. Whatever he promised he delivered. Thank you Saied and staff for a fantastic evening. The side patio is a plus. It was set up with tables and candles and was perfect for relaxing on a summer evening. I highly reccomemd Chablis for a quiet enjoyable and relaxing evening with good food and wine. What else could you ask for.

I found Chablis on yelp earlier this year as I was searching for local restaurant in the area that served my favorite soups. At the time I was planning a wedding and all our venues were booked. A couple moths before our wedding we had a major swing of events and needed a new restaurant. I remembered the reviews I read and we immediately drove to Chablis. As soon as we walked in we knew it was perfect. We felt like we were at home with our family. We got a tour of the private room and were served a few selections off the banquet menu. Not only was the food outstanding, the price was right. It was exactly the restaurant we needed to host our wedding reception. A week or so before the wedding I provided an agenda with a few requests. I was afraid of being a bridezilla but the response I received was "thank you so much!". The day of the wedding was so perfect! We arrived on time and everything was set up and the team was waiting for us. The team was so helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. Our family (all out of towners) was extremely impressed with Chablis. It could not have been any better!!

Thank you to the entire team at Chablis for such a successful wedding reception! My husband and I look forward to many more dinners with you!

We had our fathers 60th birthday at chablis and it was fabulous! The owner did everything in his power to accommodatete us! He let us take over the place and decorate and move whatever we wanted. The service through out the night was great. Food was awesome! All around it was more than we could have asked for. Everyone at chablis was amazing. I highly recommend having an event here. We will definitely be back for dinner and drinks.

My husband and I had a fantastic experience here tonight after needing to unwind from a very long day. Relaxing, warm ambience; charming, engaged service; exquisite and delicious food; and an impeccable wine list from which we chose a delightful rose. If we lived in the area (we live in DC), this would be a regular haunt. And, to top it off, the prices are reasonable. Go there and eat and drink well!

Came for happy hour drinks and apps on a Friday evening, and was so comfortable we stayed for dinner and chatted into the evening. Great food, lots of vegetarian options. Table service was attentive without being all over us. Nice music and a lovely patio.

We loved the ambiance and the live music. The wine selection was pretty good, though their food was decent.

Compared to other tapas and wine restaurants, the price is comparable and cheaper than some, but the quality is not. As good as some plates were, I couldn't justify spending that much on small plates. Since it's close to home, I'll return, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way for.

Ambiance: 4 stars****
I really liked the ambiance of this place. There's a nice outdoor patio and live chill music played by a guy with a sax inside the restaurant.

Food: In order of favorite to least favorite 3 Stars***
1) Flatbread with caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, mozzarella, pesto cream, and tomato bruschetta. I'm skeptical of flatbreads because I've been disappointed many times, but this particular was very good. The bread wasn't overly crispy and the ingredients went very well together.

2) Pan roasted scallops were not the best that I've tried, but still good nonetheless. I'd actually order this again.
http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
3) Potato fries with parmesan, truffle oil, and spicy remoulade were unique in that they were long slices of thin potatoes. The potato fries themselves were just okay, but the spicy remoulade really made this plate delicious.

4) Wild mushroom blue mac n cheese/truffle oil/parmesan - After seeing this on the menu, i thought, how could this be bad? Well, apparently they messed this plate up. It was pretty bland and the texture of the cheese was all off.

Service: 2 Stars**
The service could use a little improvement. It was a bit slow, and for the most part, absent.

Parking:
Some metered street parking and a small parking lot behind the restaurant.

Last Sunday we went here for a family dinner. We had a party of 7. I was very impressed with the menu and the service. We tried almost all the small plates and everyone loved it! Main courses were also just super tasty. Very reasonably priced, I definetelly recomend this place. You can have a romantic dinner for two or come here with a large group and everyone will be satisfied.

This is definitely the best restaurant I've every been to in the Valley. Everything we ordered was delicious including the braised short rib, eggplant roulade with ricotta cheese, pan roasted scallops in chickpea puree and lemon thyme beurre, and panzenella salad. And the creme brûlée desert was to die for. Also had the cucumber martini and Cadillac margarita and the total bill for 2 was about $100. We'll definitely be back soon!

Went on a Thursday night. The service was excellent. There was a large wine list. I had the short ribs - they were amazingly tender with no fat. I liked the back parking. Very pretty place. I would go back.

Took my lady for Valentines day, I'm trying to find good places to eat in my new neighborhood, and honestly the food was amazing. I'm a little bit of a food snob and this place really beat my expectations even with the good reviews.
I will say this, the poor hostess doesn't seem to know what she's doing, after reading the reviews I didn't have high expectations for the amount of time it would take to get the food but it wasn't horrible. If you're looking for a place to rush in and rush out you're going to be disappointed but if you're ready for a sit down meal that tastes phenomenal this is the place.

Yummy!

I went with a girlfriend on a Saturday night at 7:45pm. I made open table reservations but I did not need to as because while the restaurant was busy there was ample seating. There is a bar area so that if you had to wait you could always get a drink.

We both shared the following: Ahi Tuna Poke, Mussels and Frites, Lamb Sirloin along with a bottle of the Big Red. For desert we have some raspberry dish and two cappuccinos.

Ahi Tuna Poke - you are definitely going to want to add whatever mango, sweet spread they have on the plate. It really adds to the dish.

Mussels and Frites - GREAT! I am very pick about my mussels. The only complaint I have is I wish the mussels were larger. It came with 3 large fries on the side and they were delicious. I asked the waiter how they were seasoned. They were seasoned with parmesan, salt, pepper, and parsley. Suggested tip - dip your french fries in the mussels juice.

Big Red - I believe this wine was a mixture of Syrah, Cab, and something else. It was flavorful and not too heavy. I would definitely recommend this bottle of wine.

Lamb Sirloin - based on how good the two appetizers were I thought the lamb sirloin was going to be amazing. It was good, nothing amazing or memorable, but definitely delicious. There were so many delicious sounding things on the menu.

Raspberry desert - I am not really a desert person, but I tried it. Again it was okay, nothing special.

Cappuccinos - Good, not great. My girlfriend and I are also spoiled as we have had cappuccinos in Paris, but this definitely reminded us of Paris.

The appetizers, wine, ambiance, and singer were the highlight of the evening other than our good conversation.

Ambiance: This is a cute, quaint little spot on Ventura Blvd. We sat by a fireplace, but unfortunately it was not working. I definitely would want to come back during the day or on a warm summer night and eat outside in the patio area.

Music: They hired a singer and he was AMAZING! It really added to the mood. He played jazzy music and then threw in some Frank Sinatra music. It was a very romantical evening with one of my good girlfriends.

This place is good for groups and for intimate dinners. I would definitely go back.

Went for the first time for Valentine's Day with my boyfriend last night.

The place has a really good atmosphere - inside and a cool secluded little outdoor patio. Plus, they have live music (a jazz guitarist/keyboardist). Nothing better than live music!

The wait staff seemed a little flustered (that might just be from the Valentine's day crowd).

Food is really great. Perfect portions. And seriously rich and delicious. PLus, I always love a place with great bread and they had fantastic bread out.

Pricing was decent. I spent $90 before tip for a bottle of wine, a ceased salad, and a fillet mignon dinner all off the Valentine's Day menu.

First time visit, specifically for Dine LA.

Ambiance: nicer than I expected, in that old-school, Italian, neighborhood restaurant type way. There was live music, which was unexpected and enjoyable. But, it was kind of cheesy with an 80's jazz lounge feel.

Service: I never knew who our waiter/waitress was. There was a gentleman (the host/owner?) who took our drink and food order, and then a series of other staff. Service wasn't overly attentive, and had to be flagged down on several occasions, but was always very earnest and polite.

Food:
The bread/butter they serve in the beginning is DELICIOUS!

I ordered from the Dine LA menu:
Baked Brie - just ok. Was not impressed by the dough and would not order this again. It was very dense and made me wonder if it had been sitting for awhile.
Short Ribs - delicious - I was very happy with this dish.
Chocolate Truffle Cake - bleck. It reminded me of boxed Sara Lee cake.

I did try some of the creme brulee - it was OUTSTANDING! The waiter raved about the cheesecake (which I also had a bite of) and it was as "Sara Lee" as my chocolate dessert.

The thing I found surprising was their wine selection. It was not very lengthly nor was it good. For being a "Food + Wine" place, I expected a few choices of each varietal or at least for each selection to be top notch. There were wines from all over the world, and about 1 selection per varietal offered. I tried a few and did not like any I tried. This, perhaps, was the most disappointing thing about the dining experience.

The rest of the menu looked delicious and had much I'd be interested to try. But, with a disappointing wine list, there wasn't anything that would warrant the drive or effort it would take to get there. Perhaps if I'm in the area and need a dinner spot, I'd pop in. If I were a local, I'd give it a 2nd chance.

Parking: there's a lot in the back (that I saw only after I parked on the street around the corner).

We went here for dineLA and because our friend's parents were in town. The $35/person pre-fixe menu looked great online and we're always interested in trying somewhere new. It was also somewhat of a convenient spot for the group coming from West LA, Sherman Oaks, and Northridge, so we went for it. The overall experience was good, BUT (you'll notice a lot of but's in this review) there are definitely areas to improve upon.

LOCATION/PARKING/AMBIANCE: It's on Ventura Blvd in Encino and has a parking lot in the back, as well as street parking that is either metered or in the neighborhood. It was an OK location, but probably not the best spot on Ventura. Our friend noted that she's seen this location be various different restaurants over the many years she's lived in the area (our server told us they'd been around for 3 years). Inside, there is a main dining room that is medium sized and a bit intimate. We got a table along the front window for our table of 6 and enjoyed a live musician on a Thursday evening. It was a nice, seemingly casual vibe with mostly groups of 4 or more. Not necessarily the most romantic spot. There is also a patio on the side (connecting to the back/parking) that has plenty of tables, which I'd imagine could be enjoyable when it was warmer. I also noticed a small room, probably used for small banquets. There was a live musician, who switched up his instrument and sang... that was the best part of the ambiance.

SERVICE: The service was not bad... BUT... it was certainly not the best we've ever had. We originally had a reservation of 5 through Open Table that I updated to 6 about 30 minutes before we got there. When the first two of us arrived, they were confused and thought we had a table for 7 people and so they took a little table away. We moved the tables a little bit ourselves to give more room because there was extra space on one side, but it was squishy on the other. They only gave us 2 menus, which was odd, but we thought maybe it was because not everyone was there yet. The rest of the group arrived and it took about 10 more minutes before we were greeted again (and no, we never got additional menus). We had a bottle of wine we brought ($5 corkage!) and were asked if we wanted it opened; we said yes to air it and ordered cocktails. The server didn't air the wine before he left the table, returned with an apple martini instead of the ordered Washington Apple Martini (and actually asked me to just drink it and I had to tell him no I don't prefer vodka!), and then again disappeared to make a cocktail and had to return with that, then again left to get an ordered glass of wine that he never brought to us. This was not the only weird mishap during our dining experience (I could go on, but its already going to be a long review) and the ordering, the food, and a lot of attention was very slow and limiting. For example, at 7:55 pm, I looked at my clock and we were STILL waiting for appetizers. 55 minutes into our reservation?! Basically, our server was polite and got the job done, but wasn't too friendly and didn't seem as attentive as we would have preferred.

FOOD & DRINK: 5 out of 6 of us ordered off the dineLA menu, which are all also options on the main menu. The baked brie was pretty good and the crab bisque soup was delicious! (No one went with the Caesar salad.) For the entrees, the lamb was pretty tasty, although it wasn't as big as hoped for. The scallops were well responded to, but the puree was not loved. The ribs were pretty good, but the sauce was too much for me and so I only really enjoyed the part without the sauce on top. The seafood pasta (off the dineLA menu) was well enjoyed and A LOT of food. For desert, we enjoyed all three options, but they were small. The crème brulees were good, though the custard wasn't the best. The cheesecake was nice and fluffy; others didn't quite enjoy the fluffiness even if I did. The truffle cake was also well liked. The cocktails were good (when correct, see service) and they had a decent wine list.

PRICES: $5 corkage is always awesome. The $35 pre-fixe was also great and basically you got a little something extra for the price over the entrée, so it was well priced to some extent, though on the higher end of costs for the Valley. They added in gratuity for our group of 6, though it is actually less than we typically add, so they ended up losing out. Without dineLA and/or by ordering a bottle of their wine, we could have racked up the bill a lot more. It was actually about $360 including tip for the 6 of us, so that was a pretty good price for 5 apps, 6 entrees, 5 desserts, 6 cocktails, corkage on 1 bottle of wine, and tip. Could have been well worth it, minus the service and wait time.

Bottom Line - Good food, live music, and we enjoyed our own company, BUT the service was OK and we will likely try other places before opting to return here.

Came here on a Thursday night for DineLA with a group of 4 people. There's no waiting area to be seated, which I found very strange. I didn't want to walk into the restaurant straight into a group of people dining, so I was peaking around the outside to see if my friends were already inside... Which is weird too, I know. Also, the table we sat at was directly in front of the front entrance! And it was a cold night, so every time someone opened the door we felt a rush of cold wind. Not fun.

Anyways, I'm not sure why, but the service took forever here! Maybe I'm just used to servers coming to you very quickly and checking on you every now and then, but we had to practically wave down our servers when we wanted to order, when we needed more water, when we wanted to order our dessert, and when we wanted the check. Ugh. And they were barely available to flag down! Making our dinner last over 2 hours long. Between the appetizer, main course, and dessert, I think we waited 20-30 minutes. Way too long.

Ok, onto the food. It was OK... My favorite was definitely the crab bisque! It had chunks of crab meat in it, and it was very flavorful. The Cesar Salad... was strange. It had one anchovy on the side. Yeah, weird. For the main course, my friends and I each got one of the three choices you could choose from, and there was a lot going on in each dish! I got the scallops, and man it was salty. The lamb was pretty tasty! But not special. The ribs dish was... interesting. They had grits on the bottom. Weird. Ok, dessert, nothing special again. The cheesecake was salty though. That's not how it's supposed to be! And my friend was basically forced to get the chocolate cake by the server. It was weird. He was like, "You get the chocolate cake," and my friend was like... "I would prefer the Creme Brulee," and the server just kept insisting so he got the chocolate cake.

So overall, nothing too exciting. Bad service. Mediocre food. Won't be coming back.

Some places are just A-Ok and that is not a bad thing. For me Chablis doesn't have any low lights but also doesn't have any major high lights to catch my attention.

We went the other night for Dine LA week. It was $35 a person that included 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. We entered Chablis off of Ventura. I think the intended entrance is through their patio area since the hostess stand is located at that entrance, but its hard to tell. The room started filling up around 7pm creating a bit of a buzz and the flutist played throughout the night. The decor had a French bistro style feel and I did like that they used REAL candles that were larger than the tea type typically used and certainly not the fake battery operated ones.

We started with one of their appetizers (not on DIne LA) and a bottle of Bordeaux. The wine was reasonably priced ($45) and the Brie en Croute with Duck Confit was a nice start. I would like to see a bit more duck but the flavors went well together.

For our starters we had the Crab Bisque Soup and the Caesar Salad. The soup was good, especially on a rainy night. Not a lot of depth but a well done creamy texture. The salad was kind of boring to feature on a Dine LA menu. If you are going to roll out a basic salad I was hoping to maybe see a twist (i.e. make table side, great dressing, something...).

For our entrees we tried the Rack of Lamb and the Slow Braised Short Rib. The rack of lamb was well prepared and featured the quality of the meat. The mushroom ragout accompaniment was again good but I think they could have went with something a bit more bold to pair with the lamb. The short rib was your typical short rib that you could get at many restaurants these days. It was good but not something special. The Parmesan grits were underwhelming and I've had better caramelized Brussels sprouts with pancetta.

For dessert we went with the Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brulee and the chocolate truffle cake. The Crème Brulee was as expected and good, however the chocolate cake was on the dry side.

All and all a good night to try something new courtesy of Dine LA but we probably won't go back unless someone really wants to go there for dinner.

The food here is fantastic! We ordered the flat bread, skirt steak meal and shrimp and scallop pasta. The flat bread was very tasty and sweet. My skirt steak with wild mushroom was delicious! The shrimps on shrimp and scallop pasta are huge!

The musician that performed at the restaurant on 1/18 had a really great voice too.

Small intimate restaurant but with an outdoor seating area. Came with a group of 9 around the holidays. Service was phenomenal! The Chabli team was personable and definitely a joy! There was a wonderful wine selection: Spanish, German, Italian, Australian, European, and domestic (California, Washington, etc.). A full bar is also available. We started with an assortment of small plates as appetizers then transitioned to large plates. The food was superb with the exception of the Chicken Milanese (less desirable).

We opened a 2nd Chateauneuf du Pape which was crocked but they insisted that a decanter was the solution. After a couple of discussions they took it back. When are customers incorrect in a service industry???

Anyway, our group of nine with two bottles, lots and lots of cocktails totaled close to 800 bones. The overall experience was wonderful and will definitely frequent this restaurant! Give it a try!

Very good service and food! The duck and brie cheese appetizer was one of my favorites, and I ordered the pepper crusted tornado of filet mignon with garlic mashers...which was also excellent!

The chocolate lava cake was adequate, but not great. In my opinion, I would order either the chocolate mousse or creme brulee as they were both much better!

With no plans on New Years Eve at 4pm, I checked on Yelp for restaurants in the area that took reservations. Chabis showed up and I was able to get a 930pm reservation. To our surprise, this is a gem in our area !! Very comfortable with a great staff. The food was off of the special menu for the New Year celebration but it was fantastic. I can hardly wait to go back to order off the regular menu ! We had a really great time and met some nice people not to mention the entertainment. Will definitely be going back. Thanks for amemorale New Years Eve !!!

This is a great place for either a date or to go with friends. Great ambiance, great service, and great food. It is a small area inside but it makes it gives it a nice, cozy vibe and you can just relax and enjoy the good company and food. It takes a while for the food to come out but it's worth the wait. They bring you warm bread and butter to start with which is good to hold you over. Also, the margaritas are pretty delicious! I am so glad i found a nice place like this in the valley! I will definitely come back.

This is a SFV gem. Chablis is a great lounge/wine bar/restaurant. My boyfriend and I came here before going out later in the evening. We split some small plates and each was yummy. I don't remember exactly what we ordered - nothing too memorable - just that we enjoyed them. The wine menu is extensive enough to satisfy many tastes. I had a glass of chardonnay that was good. Service was efficient and friendly (the busboy or equivalent was rather clumsy, though...slow it down, dude). We were there rather early in the evening, and as such it was not too crowded. The live music was loud, but really great! I don't typically say "great" and "live music" in the same sentence at places like this, but it really was enjoyable. Thanks, music guy.

You will notice I gave this place 5 stars... and it deserves every one of them, because the food is beyond extraordinary. However, there are some negatives, and if you are the owner of Chablis, I want you to pay attention.

First, as I already mentioned, the food (we had the Filet Mignon and the baked fish) is stupendous! The filet was exactly medium as ordered, tender and juicy. Melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The mash is on a par with the best I've ever had, the rice perfectly cooked, the vegetables al dente. The wine selection is fantastic (and affordable), the table bread some of the most delicious, hot, sweet French baguette I've ever tasted, served with real spreadable butter, and the crème brulee dessert was warm (as it should be, not refrigerated), with a topping not over-charred.

The service was delightful, with a man in a beret singing and playing the flute, the waiters make frequent visits to tables, bread was brought to our table 5 times (!), and everything was very professional and courteous.

Some areas that need work are the following, and most may seem like nitpicking, but when a place is this good it deserves to be as perfect as possible:

1) When you arrive, it is clear the sign out front is missing some light bulbs. Give it some attention, folks.

2) It was night and raining when we arrived, yet all of their velvet lined chairs were sitting out on the patio getting utterly soaked (and ruined, in my opinion). Why?

3) Right when you enter, there is an overwhelming scent of bleach and cleanser. It is because the door is right next to the bathrooms.

4) The place is WAY too small. Buy out your neighbor and expand.

5) The extraordinary food took FOREVER. Now, I forgive this because it was well worth the wait, but really... hire some more line chefs.

That's it for the complaints. As you can see they're trifling, and fixable. Bottom line: go eat at Chablis on Ventura Blvd. It may well become your favorite restaurant!

I have to say, literally everything we ordered at Chablis was super delicious. There was not one item on the menu I wouldn't recommend. The service was friendly, and the food came out reasonably quickly. Would definitely recommend Chablis for a tapas-style dinner.

I wanted a wine bar/lounge, and didn't want to drive to Santa Monica or DTLA... And then I drove past a sign on Ventura that said "Chablis"... Kismet!

It was early enough that I thought we wouldn't need a reservation, and I was right, but next time I'm definitely making a reservation, just in case!

We ordered some glasses if wine and I tried this fun cucumber martini. Yum! Our original plan was to get some small plates and then split a large plate. But then looking at the menu, everything looked so good, we ended up just ordering small plates!

We got the ahi tuna stack, pan seared scallops, short rib mushroom ragout, grilled flat bread, and wild mushroom blue mac 'n' cheese. Whoa. Everything was perfectly seasoned and tasted spectacular. For example, the scallops. It said it was on a chick pea purée. Not something I would generally go for, but it was so smooth and had this lemon thyme beurre blanc, whoa, just so yummy!

I can't wait to get some friends and come back to try even more of the dishes!

Came here for a meeting one weeknight!!

The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful. looks like a small chateau/villa, complete with brick walls, vines, a beautiful display of wines, and dim pretty lighting. service was great. really relaxing atmosphere. i love that theres tables outside. there was a table of older men playing poker. how cute! i also like that it was quiet and dim..perfect for a relaxing night out.

the food i tried:
-their bread was delicious. crispy, flaky, soft, and comes on a cute wooden cutting board.
-salad with spring greens, candied walnuts, grapes, apples, and raspberry vinaigrette. really delicious! fresh, i loove candied walnuts, the fruits gave a very refreshing finish, the the vinaigrette was light and not too overbearing.
-something sirloin with blue cheese, red potatoes, onions. ok, the flavor was really good. buutttttt...the blue cheese crust/topping thing on the steak was a bit much for me. a little too heavy. the onions were cooked and were kind of drenched in the sauce. the dish overall was a bit heavy...i KNEW i shoulda gotten the salmon dishhh!!!

so altho my particular dish was A-OK...the atmosphere of this place def would make me want to come back for a glass of wine and maybe some small appetizers or the salmon dish. it would be a very relaxing night to chit chat with a few friends, or a date night with your other half. def wanna come back!

UH - MAY - ZING !!!
It is my wife's & my anniversary and we wanted to find something new but we were gonna drive to a restaurant we've already been to. In route, we drove past a small, hole-in-the-wall that caught our eyes. We walked into this quiet romantic restaurant with some soothing live music playing and we already fell in love with the atmosphere... then the food came out. It was some of the best food I've tasted in a long time. Just outstanding! And the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be returning for future date nights.

Stopped by after work Thursday night to meet a friend for a drink! We live right down the street and wanted to check it out after driving by so many times.

One star for service... super super slow. 25 minutes to get a glass of wine!

Needless to say we didn't order any food. After all, we have to be back to work on Monday! To their credit, they did apologize for the wait.

They seem to get good reviews. I would like to try the food. I'll have to stop by again sometime when I have an evening to kill.

Based on my last review of a Dine LA experience back in January, we celebrated my moms birthday here a couple nights ago.

I didn't mention it before, but the bread here is really good. Crispy outside, soft inside. I'm salivating thinking about it right now but unfortunately it goes downhill from here. We asked for more bread since we polished it off before anything else arrived. Sadly, the bread never came.

The ahi appetizer (yummy, btw) only comes with 3 little chips and there were four of us dining. We asked our waitress to bring a few more chips so everyone could enjoy some. She didn't bring the chips, so we eventually grabbed somebody else to bring them for us. By the time we received them, our entrees were on our table. One of the appetizers didn't even make it out before the entrees came. I understand kitchens get backed up sometimes, but considering we ordered appetizers at least 15 minutes prior to entrees, this shouldn't happen. Besides, you usually don't want them by then anyway.

The short rib was as good as I remembered from trying someone elses last time here but everyone else's meal (beef stroganoff and skirt steak) was just okay. When we were done with our entrees, we were never asked if we wanted coffee, dessert, etc. When we had given up on that and I had to ask the busser to get us our check since our server had gone MIA. A few minutes later, she drops the check off and can you guess what happens next? Yep, she doesn't come back to pick it up. Again, I had to flag down another employee to take it up for us. The restaurant wasn't even busy at this point, maybe half a dozen tables still occupied at most so there was really no excuse for the poor service.

Ask anyone I know and they'll tell you I'd take good food over good service any day of the week but this was so poor that I'd have to reconsider. This certainly isn't the most expensive restaurant, but I've seriously had better service at Chick Fil-A and for the price I'd expect a higher caliber of waitstaff.

West coast wine and tapas is my favorite thing. Like ever. I know, I know, its cliche but deal.

This cute little restaurant is located next to a parking nazi salon. A cute wedding reception was going on indoors when my friends and I arrived. Seating outside is all you currently have? OH SHUCKS. The outdoor area is in the gap between the restaurant and the next door business, and they did a pretty good job making it quiet, pleasant and overall pretty beautiful.

Out of the reds I had, the Petite Sirah stood out. It complimented my Panzanella salad (sans cheese) and in general was a nice kick-back-and-enjoy-the-weather wine. My friends had the Sauvignon Blanc and were also quite happy with it.

Now, my problem. Service? So-so. Which isn't too good when you have a flight that evening. And on top of that, the (I'm guessing) manager of the restaurant, this old accented dude, seemed to INSIST on being the face at every table to order/ask how we were, even if we had to wait for quite a long while. In fact, I'd even venture to say we had worse service than the other tables outside. Reasoning? I think because we're mid-twenty-somethings. Just the way the manager seemed to treat us (slightly condescending and fake nice); and we were easily the youngest group there by at least 15-25 years of age. Just because we're younger doesn't mean we can't enjoy a glass of wine in a pleasant atmosphere.

If I do make it back to LA, I'll skip here. If you're younger or in a hurry, I suggest you do too.

The wine selection was nice and I wish I went for happy hour instead of a full meal. We arrived around 7 and were one of the only 2 tables at the time. As many people have previously stated the service was draggingly slow. I have very high hopes for this place as I read such glowing reviews but I guess it is very possible that we chose the wrong items on the menu.

The surf and turf was mediocre. I understand that this place is not a steak house or a seafood restaurant but it still could have been a little better than it was.

The pan seared salmon was a little better but not amazing but the mussels and frites were delicious and the french onion soup was really good too. It seems like all the small eats were enjoyable which is why I want to try this place for its happy hour instead of a meal.

The ambiance was nice in the restaurant and definitely nice for a very relaxed meal. The wine selection is nice and it has a full bar so it is a nice place to have a drink and relax over a long slow meal. This place has all the makings of a nice place to go to on the regular but my experience was very mediocre. It is definitely somewhere that I may try again in the future and at that time I may give it a better review if the experice shows improvement.

This review is for dessert only and ....well the service and the ambiance too. Had a chance to pop in here for an after dinner sweet tooth fix and it really hit the spot. It helped that I scored a coveted parking spot right on Ventura Blvd. just steps from the entrance, nice!

Upon walking into Chablis it felt inviting and warm. They were just busy enough to give a level of confidence that yes this was a spot worthy of a dessert. We were immediately greeted by a friendly and efficient server. She gave us two recommendations that both hit the spot.

The Creme Brulee was crunchy on top with a nice smooth custard that was not too sweet.

The chocolate lava cake was perfectly cooked, and again not too sweet and not so hot it could not be immediately gobbled up.

The service, ambiance and well executed desserts made me think this is worthy of a repeat visit to try the full monty dining experience.

Why not five stars?

Well, as many have written, the service tends to be slow which can be a bit frustrating even you are expecting it. The other thing that lowers my rating to 4 stars is the guitar player. I hate the music. I just want to shoot the guy. Seems like a nice guy and I am sure he plays well, I just would rather have no music than this type of music.

I have enjoyed every meal here. The food has always been good to excellent. The menu is very strange. I find it hard to figure out. The staff is very friendly and the owner is really friendly and very passionate about his restaurant.

Despite the new school menu, the restaurant is very old school. It is dark and quiet and good place if you like enjoying the company of your dinner date(s).

This is a great change from Paul's Cafe which in the end was possibly the worst restaurant in the city.

Wow, this was a big hit. I tried to get to this place at least twice, but kept canceling as our plans were changing. Finally, we decided to give this place a try because we needed to find a new trendy place for my husband's birthday family dinner. After our short visit we try few dishes (Onion soup, Steak Bruschetta, and Duck confit with brie and side salad) we immediately decided that this is the place to invite the family to. Corkage fee $5 is unheard of, we brought out favorite wines.

We made arrangements to have family style serving and it was so great as everyone tried a little of everything. BTW, they have a separate dining private area, however, it was booked at the time of our party; and patio with heater, which would be great during the summer time.

So, here are the dishes we ordered:
Onion soup - one of the best I had, including my daughter
Steak Bruschetta - my favorite (my son ate 2 pieces alone)
Tuna Poke with crisps - excellent, I think my daughter ate at least half of it.
Spicy jumbo shrimp on risotto cake - yummy
Grilled flat bread w caramelized onions/wild mushrooms/mozzarella/pesto - everyone loved it, especially my kids (7 & 10 y/o)
Burrata and tomato salad - nice dressing
Beets, arugula/candy pistachios salad - really great salad

MAIN Course:
Pan seared sea bass - really tasty
Lemon herb chicken scaloppini
Filet mignon w/ mashed potato & seasonal vegetables - perfectly prepared
Grilled marinated lamb chops - oh, so good

Everything was excellent, everyone left satisfied and raved about the dinner for the next few days. Great job to Saeed and his recommendations; thumbs up to the chef. We will be back soon to try the rest of the menu. Oh, and the price is sooooo reasonable.

In the location where Paul's Cafe and Tootsie's once sat is a very solid dining experience.

Came here on a Wednesday night off a recommendation from my buddy's old man, and he was on the money. Well priced, and menu offered variety...We had the pan seared sea bass w/vegetables, the beurre monte skirt steak but subbed out the glazed wild mushrooms w/garlic mashed, and the seared scallop risotto...all really nicely prepared...nothing over $22, which is pretty reasonable considering the quality and portion size...had the baked alaska for desert...it got demolished as did everything we ordered.

Ambience is cool....and a nice bar set up as well...flat screen wasn't on which was nice for a change. Classy spot. Try it.

Such a beautiful warm delicious venue. We just did my BFF 's baby shower there... It was gorgeous! The owner was a pure pleasure to do business with...the staff was amazing, food delicious, and simply perfect !! This is probably one of the valley's best kept secrets!!
Highly recommend the venue....
