Review is for the bar, which is fantastic. "Soup" is an institution as a bartender. Definitely from the old school with many years of experience and a lot of great stories. Big fan of the nachos. Easy access right across street from Friendship Heights metro stop.

Oh Chadwicks, now "Chads" (great story behind this) you never fail me. You have been across the street from me for more years then i care to count. Huge outdoor patio, friendly waitstaff/barstaff. Salads, sammies, brunch & hh specials -- always consistent and good. All you could want in a neighborhood bar.

Chadwicks is a neighborhood institution. I've been coming here as long as I can remember. Although, now it appears they've changed their name to Chad's? Blasphemy! Well, as long as the food stays the same, I guess it's ok. The food is consistently good, they have a wonderful outdoor patio, the prices are reasonable, and the servers are friendly. I'll keep coming back!

The Happy Hour is one of the best deals in town - a good place to go if you want to catch a drink and snack before running off to the movies or to meet friends. I'm not sure I'd come here for a meal - the food is absolutely fine, but I'm not sure I can really cheer about it - but the appetizers are good and I had a surprisingly solid vegetable wrap last time I was there.

As pointed out in other reviews, this place has a very "cheers"-esque feel and I love it.  The standard bar food looked pretty solid and I was totally digging the free snacks. Domestic beers are $2.95 during happy hour and not particularly crowded (just the way I like it). I don't have an excuse to come to Friendship Heights often but I may be willing to start making an excuse for Chadwick's

There's a reason why Chadwick's seats you at paper covered tables with a stack of crayons in the middle---it's so that you can remind yourself that you paid $25 an entree for kid's meal-quality food.  It's nothing like the other upscale/chain restaurants that inhabit Wisconsin Ave with their contemporary decor and stylish lighting (and edible food bahah).  It's got outdated interiors, flies, and lots of fake plastic flowers---kind of like an ugly diner, but with a much larger bar.  But to be honest, i was too busy scrawling 3-legged monsters in red crayon on my paper tablecloth to really notice...

Anyway back to the important stuff--the food was pretty much as savory as crayons in a cardboard box.  The seafood is 100% frozen (I tried the frozen calamari and frozen fish entree).  Frozen food is pretty much the easiest thing to spot---it's chewy, dry, hard, flavorless, and less tasty than crayons, which have at least a fresh waxiness to them.  The dishes were essentially tasteless, so  I actually had to scatter some red and green crayon shavings all over my fish entree just for some extra flavor.  The bacon-wrapped scallops dish is greasy and comes with some wilted looking frozen vegetables and rice that had a hard time making their way into my mouth---i found myself constantly shoving crayons into my face rather than food (self preservation at its utmost...).  That was when i knew I was done for---I love bacon so much i'd probably eat it off the sidewalk if it were available in such places, but I actually had to leave my bacon-wrapped scallops dish chiefly uneaten.

So there you go!  Go to Chadwick's if you really have some inexplicable desire to play with crayons or like your ish frozen.  HOLLA.

Stopped in Chadwick's after attending a concert the other night and was happy to learn that the kitchen was open 'til midnight.  Sat at the bar w/ a friend and ordered the pecan-crusted chicken - it was delicious and a great value for the price. The bartender who served us was super nice too. I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in the area.

I love their turkey dinner special. It is only served on Thursday.

At the time, I was too hungry to care, scarfing down the bacon wrapped scallops doused in grease and paired with  an underwhelming rice and mixed vegetables. But later on I felt so nauseous. I am hating bacon right now and that's a sucky state to be in.

Homemade food.  That says it all these days, right?  I need gluten free accommodation, and the staff was eager to help.  All five of us enjoyed the meal very much.

Solid neighborhood eatery.  I love the potato skins covered in cheddar cheese and bacon.  Wraps are good and I like the occasional special entree.  Nothing fancy but it's a longtime local place I don't mind giving my business.

review is for the bar only

i came here with a friend to grab drinks after a movie, we got a total of 4 mixed drinks and nachos. the the nachos were great, drinks were bit weak in the alcohol department and pricey,

it seems like a pretty standard american food establishment like clydes up a few blocks...but i wont comment on the food

bar was nice , bar tender was friendly, dont really have much else to say beyond that

I hate to say it, but Chadwick's food is so mediocre. Incredibly boring actually. Sitting outside on the patio is soothing during the spring and summer, but it's hardly got great specials or anything that makes this place stand out. chadwicks is lucky that it's in a neighborhood. i really dont know what to say about this place. i live a block away and ive been there maybe 4 times. last meal i got was a sandwich. it was so plain.

I love this place!  I came with a co-worker on a dreary Friday night; surprisingly the bar area was loud and packed.  The best part of the night was Pete, our bartender.  He was so friendly and entertaining.  He kept me and my companion entertained the whole night.  This place definitely makes my list of happy-hour go-to joints.  Thanks Pete!

Pretty busy here on a Friday night, and nice casual atmosphere. The crabcake sandwich was okay, but not anything to write home about. However, the nachos were really good and come with chili on top!! And you are given crayons to write on the paper tablecloths with - I felt like a kid again! =)

Chadwicks is a pretty run-of-the-mill American bar and grill. It's kind of got a TGI Friday's vibe going on, without being overly kitschy or corporate.

This place has an older clientele than many of the bars in downtown DC. That doesn't mean you won't get stuck next to a couple trying to out-flirt each other at the bar, it just means they'll probably be in their 40s rather than their 20s.

I have no idea if this Chadwicks is affiliated with the Chadwicks in Georgetown or not. The G'town location has much better happy hour and daily specials. The only thing that remotely interests me here is Wednesday "Pint Night", though at $4.50 for a "premium beer" and Brooklyn IPA being the most premium offering, it's hardly worth going out of the way for.

That said, this part of town is kind of a wasteland when it comes to good bars and restaurants. It's mostly national chain-type places that don't interest me. So by that virtue alone, Chadwicks is a winner.

I love Chadwicks! right across the street from the Friendship Heights Metro, it's in an excellent location to grab something to eat while shopping, while enjoying the Friendship Heights area.

Evey time I visit, I've been seated right away and greeted by a very friendly server. As for the food, it's scrumptious! Chadwicks serves some of the best ribs and sweet potato fries in town.

If I would have to pinpoint a negative, it would be that they don't have an expansive selection of beverages.  That's about it.

All and all, I would highly recommend Chadwicks. They have excellent food, excellent service and excellent prices.  By the way, it reminds me a lot of the TV sitcom "Cheers." Just saying.

I ordered the hot Southern fried chicken salad. It was a good size, but the chicken was not hot - neither in temperature or spice. I'm ok with the temperature not being hot, but if it was meant to be spice level, Chadwick's missed the mark.

My boyfriend ordered the half rack of ribs which were delicious!

    Service was good and quick.

They have wax paper for you to draw on, but the crayons and wax paper combo isn't great.

Crowd on a Wednesday night was pretty low-key. There was a bunch of older gentlemen gathered around a table, but they weren't super rowdy, and Chadwick's had a few tv's with basketball games on.

    3.25 stars.

Walked by this place a hundred times but never had the desire to go in. Went to see Skyfall tonight and when the rents suggested going to Maggiano's after the movie, I quickly threw out Chadwicks to avoid a meal of bad pasta.

Chadwick's turned out to be better than I had expected. Not phenomenal, but we had a great server and the food was decent, so I can't complain. We ordered ribs and crab cakes, with sweet potato fries. The fries were crispy and some of the better ones we've had. So many places now offer sweet potato fries yet so few of them are good. The crab cakes didn't disappoint. There was no filler in them and the platter came with two pretty big crab cakes. The ribs were okay, not the best we've had by a long stretch, but they were meaty enough and the bbq sauce wasn't sickly sweet. For dessert we tried the cinnamon apple bread pudding, although I really had to restrain myself from order the mud pie as every other table had done. The apple bread pudding was really different and according to our server the chef made it from their french bread. Interesting, different, and quite delicious.

I'd definitely return to Chadwick's if we're in the area again and are craving a chill atmosphere and decent food.

Uhmmm what can I say about good ole' Chadwick's Friendship Heights.  Happy hours on Mondays ROCKS!

Happy Hour extended (4:00 - 11:00pm) on Mondays.
    Domestic long neck beers: $2.95
    House wines: $2.95
    Rail Drinks: $2.95
1/2 price appetizer till 7:00 pm (excludes seafood appetizers)

I've planned mini happy hours with my friends at this location and we love this place.  Clearly it's all about the deals and the tasty food (loaded nachos, hummus platter, burgers) but it is also has to deal with the exceptional service from the staff including our favorite bartender, Joe.  O and if it helps, the place is immaculate...a rareity at a bar/pub restaurant.  Looks like Chadwick's will become the official place for my weekly happy hours.

Love.  This place.  I've been coming here since I first came to DC, and I'm somehow just getting around to reviewing it.  They have great happy hour prices, and the house red is delicious (especially after 6 or 7 glasses).

The service is usually really good.  The last server I had was completely adorable and a good sport when we joked around with her, and the bartenders are great.

As far as the food goes, it's good about 80% of the time.  Last time I was here, I had to drain lots of water off my steamed spinach, but the accompanying pecan slaw and main entree of ribs were decently tasty. My dining companion had the salmon, which was a little dry, but he enjoyed it.  My other favorite dishes include the hummus platter (I've been known to eat the whole thing by myself), key lime pie (yum!) and veggie wrap.

The best part about this place, though, is the fact that you can color on the tablecloths.  This makes it an excellent choice for first dates, actually, because if you have nothing to say to the other person, you can both sit there and draw.

Way to turn my opinion of you around, Chadwicks.

I didn't mind having this little basement place in my neighborhood.  It was, I thought, a good place to grab a beer.

Boy and I came starving to a completely packed bar.  A server quickly assured us we could still have a table, even though it was close to 11:30 at night, and seated us with a smile.

And then our actual server came up to our table, threw menus at us, took our drink and food orders in a huff, smacked our plates in front of us, and looked at his watch in a corner while we ate.  I understood he wanted to leave, but first, we were seated when we specifically asked if it was too late.  Also, the waiter had several other tables who hadn't yet cashed out, so we were far from holding up his evening.

The food sucked except for the fries, but those were snatched from me before I was done eating them.

I paid fifty dollars for an awful meal and horrendous service.  I will never return.

Is it strange that this place kind of reminds me of a real life "Cheers" bar? The only serious problem with this comparison is that they definitely did not know my name.

Which is totally cool. No crocidilly tears here. I just got played a little bit when I pulled the "Do you remember me?" game with one of the bartenders who clearly did not.

I'm good though. I just brushed it off and sipped my whiskey. Probably should have ordered the whiskey straight though. Not because of the blow to me ego. That would never phase me because well....I really don't care.

In reality, I needed the whiskey straight because I could have never anticipated the discussion about sexual deviences that Fenny L and I had following the Elite event at PR at Partners. All I can say is that I was personally traumatized by that conversation, but I can confidently say that I've got a greater grasp of the perversions that surround us all.

So, no prob that I used to come here after I got off work at Comcast SportNet with fellow colleagues all of the time. The bartenders loved them some me back then but I was clearly just a flavor of the year. Either way you cut it, the bartenders are hilarious and if you establish some kind of repoire, they will always make sure you are well taken care of.

Other than that, the bar food is mediocre and the scene is pretty random and slightly awkward.

Normally I would give Chadwick's a 3-star, but I've got to give an extra .5 because although they don't remember me, I remember them and the way they treated regulars in the past. That additional .5 goes to the fact that Chadwick's is the closest bar to Bethesda open after Bethesda closes, so keep the party going a little longer just right over the DC line.

Otherwise, it's more or less your standard neighborhood bar.

I've been to Chadwicks at least 80 times, so I feel as though I can review this thoroughly.

I've had a couple of different items on their menu... mostly at the bar... mostly when I've been drunk... mostly for free because I have 'connections.' Food has always been good, but it is bar food - just because Friendship Heights is a little ritzy with all its stores doesn't mean all the restaurants are going to be 5 star... it's across the street from Booeymonger's soo that's a sign.

The bartenders are not that creepy; in fact, I find them to be a lot of fun. If you are one of those types that prefers those lounges over by Dupont or M St with the bartenders who all look alike, are all named Kristoff or Sasha, and never look at you even when they are serving you a $14 bacardi & diet, then you will not like this place. The bartenders here like to talk, like to joke, and like to have fun. It's not fancy, and it's not classy.

As someone else mentioned, it's a great place to come especially if you're already in Bethesda (just head like 2 miles straight down Wisconsin) and it USED to be open until 3 (an hour later than most places in DC). Don't quote me, but I believe they close at 2 now... still a good place to come... especially if you feel like you are 3 seconds away from punching a frat boy at Union Jacks, Tommy Joes, or that other one that isn't important enough for me to remember the name of. but starts with a C.
-Disclaimer: if you are driving from Bethesda and were enjoying some drinks, there is a cop who sits on the left side of Wisconsin.. he may be harmless, though, as I have never seen him pull out onto the street... though 3 years I've been going to Chads, and he still makes an appearance every weekend.

The patrons are a definite mix. You will find yuppies and old weirdos sitting next to each other. I almost knocked out a guy  in a plaid blazer from like Boston who said he didn't like DC because there were too many poor people... but can't blame Chads on that. He deserved a punch just for wearing a plaid blazer. Oh and moccassins. Can you blame me?

Chadwicks is my parents' go to place for a quick but hearty lunch or dinner. It's a bit dim inside, but it has a family and wholesome feel. I wouldn't say anything here is going to blow you away, but you'll definitely find something you're looking for on the menu. I'm actually a big fan of their nicoise salad and their grilled salmon salad. They also make a pretty decent burger, which is usually involving a pretty sweet deal, as well. Beer selection is pretty good, too.

I'd give this place a 3.5, but I'm bumping it up for sentimental value.

    Chadwicks is a nice find.

I had walked by Chadwicks many times over the years, but never found an excuse to go in. I finally decided to give it a try and found I enjoy it quite a bit.

Sometimes you don't want to cook at home, but also not go to a fancy restaurant. You also don't want to hit Subway or Quizno's. Sometimes you just want that reliable place where the food is good and the service is reliable. Chadwicks is like like that. Very good appetizers, and an attentive staff. I really enjoy sitting outside and indulging in some people watching from the patio. What hits the spot for me there is a salad they have with fresh mozarella cheese and grilled shrimp. I usually ask for the tomatoes to be subbed for some roasted red peppers, and it hits the spot for me.

If you are looking for that comfort zone, try Chadwicks. On nice days, the outside patio does fill up early.

The food is basic bar food here.  The sandwiches are good.  Nachos are excellent here.  Desserts are good, especially the cinnamon apple bread pudding.

Prices are good here.  They have $2.95 drinks until 7 p.m.

It does get crowded and loud inside, and it can be difficult to move around.  But overall this is a decent place, if you are looking for nothing fancy.

One of a few places you can comfortably hang out anytime and any day in Friendship heights area. Customers are from well-dressed up professionals to so-casual-short/jean regulars/colleage students.. Diversity.

Bartenders are great. They make you feel like you are no-stranger and you can hang out with a glass of beer and some bar-snacks or burger.

Good HH. All appetizers (Except for calamari and shrimp) are half-off. I tried a few and my choice is nacho. Nothing special about potato skin. Sweet fries are good. $2 for side dish, $4 for a basket of it.

Bread pudding was VERY forgettable. In fact, it was more Bread (dry bread) than pudding. You can taste and feel the crust of bread slice..
Bread wanted to be pudding but seemed to be lost in process and turned into dark-wet-bread... for $5.50..
    - I would rather pay $.50 more to get a bucket of froyo from Booeymongers or a slice of real thing from cheesecake factory just cross the street.
I might come back for beer and sweet fries.

24 hours after work let out early due to Snowmageddon, and I was ready to bust out of my apartment. Fox 5 made itself useful by listing bars and restaurants that were still open, and as soon as I heard "Chadwicks" I was out the door. (After I had put on two more layers of pants and plastic bags over my socks, that is -- you know you sweat my winter style).

The bar was packed, the bartenders were cheerful, and the beers were flowing. 20 minutes into my visit and a beautiful bacon cheeseburger landed in front of me. Four friends, attentive service and two frozen margaritas later, all was right with the world. My bill was surprisingly low for spending a lovely three hours interacting with people and drinking/eating my heart out.

Thanks, Chad (can I call you that?) for making this unholy amount of frozen precipitation just a little easier to stomach.

The only reason I ended up here is because I was about to see a movie at the AMC across the street.  I met fellow yelper Monty C. at this neighborhood bar for a drink before the flick and then we grabbed some grub afterwards.
I have got to say, normally this place wouldn't stand out, except for a few things:
Nice and cheap happy hour drinks. Just $2.95 for rail drinks!
Very laid back, especially considering the neighborhood it is in.
They fry in canola oil, NOT "vegetable oil" (a pseudonym for soy-blend oils).
    They have turkey burgers!
And best of all--they have crayons at the table and paper tablecloths!

The post movie chow down and drawing contest was great, as was the waitress who didn't know how seriously to respond to requests for more crayons.  I enjoyed my spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips and I believe Monty C. enjoyed his turkey burger (seeing as how it didn't last very long!) -- I certainly enjoyed the bite I stole from it!!

Definitely a great spot before and after movies if you are in Friendship Heights neighborhood.

    Their nachos are the bomb!
    Good chili -
    Sour Cream -
    Guac -
    Fresh Jalapenos -
    Fresh tasting chips -

A big platter of these are a great way to start of an evening of free movie viewing (Thanks Yelp!).

The happy hour wine wasn't all that but the vodka tonic was. Drinks are cheap and most appetizers are half off. I've never had a chicken tender that tasted like it was cooked in funnel cake oil. I'm still not sure if that is a good thing or not. I'll have to go back for a second taste and make my final decision.

I'm not sure how it isn't metro friendly when the Friendship Heights station is one block away. If you have time there is plenty of shopping in the area so the money you save from a happy hour can be better spent on something like say a dress from Loehmann's.

Yay for Thursday night $3 Coronas. The boy and I stopped by tonight after his volleyball game to get a quick drink and dinner. My monterrey chicken wrap was delicious, and of course a Corona makes any experience worthwhile.

We can't decide if it's just our luck or if all the servers truly are awkward because every time we stop by we end up with the strangest person waiting on us. Tonight's experience was complete with a 2 minute stare down after he came back to check and see how we were doing. We said things were great and then he just stood there and watched us eat. But when you just want to grab something quick and get a cheap beer...you can't complain.

I live up the street and really need to come here more often.  I've only ever been for dinner, and really need to hit the bar sometime.

Great beer specials during the week, and you can actually get good imports at a nice discount.  They make a mean burger, and some of the other sandwiches on the menu are pretty good too.  Prices are decent, and pretty much what I'd expect for your average American restaurant.

The service has generally been pretty good when I eat there, which is good, considering it's inside the District line, which seems to be the black hole of good service unless you're in a high dollar joint.

The feel here is pretty comfortable, and generally I've seen a mixed crowd of families, college kids, professional types, etc.  It's about the closest thing I've found to a neighborhood place that I feel comfortable in in Friendship Heights.  Even though I live closer to Clyde's, I'd rather walk here, since everything is just a little more relaxed, and is essentially a cheaper version of the same thing.

Before I even darkened its doors Chadwick's used to freak me out.
First of all, what the hell kind of a name for a bar is Chadwick's? Is this Dickensian London or what?

Secondly - it's downstairs, below the pavement. In a weird way it makes me think of the whole Morlocks and Eloi thing. Going downstairs is OK - but then being able to look up at the street is a bit weird.

Thirdly - for God's sake use a bloody apostrophe in your name. Is it your bar or are there lots of you? I need the punctuation to keep me sane on this.

So one night, I faced my fears and I went in.

Imagine my surprise - it's not a bad spot. Crazy clientele ( everyone's drunk and it's the last place serving drinks within a 3 mile radius). Efficient bar staff, a few people along the bar that merit further inspection. I don't want to say too much - go there late at night and sit at the bar and tell me who you think  the other patrons are and what they do for a living.

But that's not the best bit - the best bit is - behind the bar - there is a signed photograph of local hero Maureen Dowd.

So that was my night, (admittedly I had already been out and enjoyed myself immensely), but Chadwick's was a fine night-cap, a couple of beers, a burger, some phenomenal people watching and Maureen Dowd.

Is there a Maureen D in the house?

I would often classify Chadwicks as a dumbed-down Clyde's, but with better food, cheaper prices, and far less "i'm the shit" attitude. Having gone to school at American, I used to go to Chadwicks pretty frequently - they have cheap beer almost every night of the week ($4 for a pint of anything good) and $5 goose martini's on certain nights - that's quite a deal considering most restaurants in this ritzy area charge at least double that. One downfall is the bartenders here - they are like 40-somethings who have been bartending "professionally" for years, and they can be kinda skeezy. Took my ex-girlfriend there and it was her birthday week and they told her to get on the bar and get her "birthday spanking." I was like "dude...you're 45, ugly, and you work at Chadwicks....are you kidding me?" She felt the same way (thankfully).

The food is good - excellent calamari, delicious salads, good sandwiches and a tasty brunch. All in all, I wish there was a chadwicks closer to where i live now (gallery place), as I could easily see it being my "neighborhood bar." Go for drinks or a bite, and enjoy not breaking the bank. Catch a flick at the theater afterwards and you're set.

Chadwick's has 1/2 price appetizer (except shimp and squid) and $2-2.50 house wine and selected beer and drinks specials.

We had black bean chilli, potato skins, and wings, all at 1/2 price, and a couple of glasses of $2 house wine each. The food was decent, and certainly worth the bargain prices. My friend really liked the potato skins.

    Thier Happy Hour: M-F, 4-7pm.

    Drink Specials:
$2 House Red wine, House white wine, Budweiser, Miller Light, Coors Light and Rolling Rock. $2.50 Rail Drinks and Margaritas.

So, any suggestions for other Friendship Heights happy hours that feature specials on food?

I hate Clyde's.  I hate Chef Geoff's.  But I do secretly sort of like Chadwicks... a little bit.  I mean, it's not exquisite dining, but it's relaxing and they give you crayons to draw on the top-paper tablecloth.  Hehe... I adore leaving little masterpieces for the bus boys to admire.  I go here often with my housemates (we live so close) or my boyfriend when we want something more than Panera but less than say, Ruth's Chris.  They have a nice menu of good old American favorites and it reminds me of eating out at home in little B/Co, PA, Washington style.  Sandwiches, salads, junky appetizers, burgers, and some decent dinner specials are all offered.  Last time, i ordered the Chicken Virginia and was pleasantly surprised.  The chicken breast is topped with a pleasantly creamy sauce with a bit of crab meat and ham, which seems a little weird, but it was delicious.

Sidenote: No red bull & vodka at the bar... apparently.
