We enjoyed what has become a new tradition for us, having a marvelous Sunday brunch at Chequers while watching the men's finals at Wimbledon.  The hostesses  settled us at a table in the bar, where we had a great view of the match on widescreen T.V.  We had a great time watching and cheering with the other patrons.  Our server took wonderful care of us, and even Brantley, the manager, dropped by for a visit.  The buffet was even better than I remembered, the seafood, chicken, and roast beef top-quality and beautifully prepared.  Every staff member we met went out of their way to make our experience pleasant. We look forward to watching Wimbledon at Chequers next year.

Great place to go for seafood. Jumbo lump crab cake is a favorite. Biscuits are a nice beginning. Try the lobster Mac n cheese or Yukon gold potatoes. Copper river salmon was fresh and delicious.

I almost chewed my fingers off eating the crab cake! The entire meal was delicious! The staff was as well. What a great graduation present!

Great Sunday brunch!!!  Definitely make reservations cuz' brunch is awesome and crowded.

FOOD:  For brunch, they have an omelet station, carving station, hot foods, and a dessert table.  I had the raspberry pastry, scrambled eggs, potatoes, Thai noodle salad, smoked salmon, sushi, Cioppino with Rice, Belgian waffles, pecan pie, carrot cake, and cookie, marshmallow, pretzel dipped in the chocolate fountain.  I guess I was a little hungry cuz' I had 3 helpings of food!  Everything was awesome except the sushi.

Drinks are very strong and the calamari was good.  Salad was so so, and the petit tenderloin was not cooked to order.  I ask for medium and wound up with medium well.  Net net, given the surrounding restaurants I think this one is probably preferred.  Still comparatively speaking this is just so so.  Service was good too.

Good seafood. I did not like the tuna sushi roll...but one bad item does not define a restaurant!!!
Happy hour is perfect for a group after work! The crab cakes, lobster bisque and shrimp cocktail are my fav appetizers to have!!
    Great bar scene!

This has been a go to place in the perimeter area for years, especially business lunch

I love the biscuits (they will keep bringing them if u eat them) and some of my favorite meals are the sw shrimp wrap, the tuna, and the shrimp and scallop salad (if they bring it back!)

You do not have to be dressed fancy here, but you can enjoy a very good meal and a good glass of wine or a cocktail

I'm  not really a fan of dining out, but I felt really comfortable here. I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and dim lighting. The place was clean.
The food here was far better than I expected. I have no complaints. We enjoyed everything, the calamari and crab cakes were also really good.
Although, this restaurant may be a bit pricey for some, I can honestly say everything was well worth it, in my opinion. They send out coupons which come in handy.
Mary was our server, she's awesome and gave awesome service-Thanks!
    I will be returning.

Maybe it was because we sat down at 8:30, but the food didn't seem as if it was worth what they charged for it. I loved the private room they put us in, but i think the pricing was a little high

Excuse me...may I borrow your wheelbarrow?! Sunday Brunch was amazing! Who knew fine dining buffets existed?! Just when You thought you were too good for buffets (because we all know you're a germaphobe), I found the right place for you...and after you see what it includes, you'll see it's not a bad deal after all ($25pp).  I set out to celebrate life, and since I'm an American breakfast lover (omelets & waffles) and a Seafood lover (shrimp & mussels), this was perfect! I even saw juicy steak that looked like Prime Rib for the red meat lovers.  No wonder the place was packed at noon, it's a very rich, clean & impressive looking restaurant on the inside.  Seating was quick though and everyone there was very nicely dressed in their Sunday best :)

Great Happy Hour specials. Very friendly staff and fresh seafood. The Calamari is good and includes jalapenos but the last time it was WAY over-cooked. I almost sent it back but I didn't because it was complimentary. Oh and they now have 420 on draft. About Time!

    A letdown.

I've been here for business lunches and found it pretty good.  But my first dinner experience was disappointing.

    GOOD:
    - We had a private side-room for our party-of-six.  Very nice.
    - They take reservations and had our table ready when we arrived.

    NOT SO GOOD:
    - My swordfish was cut too thin and was over-cooked and dry.
    - Some of the steaks in my party were not cooked to the right temperature (one under, one over).
    - The desserts looked pre-fabbed, not made on site.
    - Our server, while pleasant, was slow, mumbled, and was not enthusiastic at all.  I expect much better at this price-point.
    - The decor of the whole place is just looking old and gloomy.  This place looks like it was probably nice in about 1982, and just has never updated anything.

I'm torn with Chequers.  The place looks like they haven't put a dime into it since 1990.  There is no attention to detail with the atmosphere.  The kitchen is open and you would think that the standards for cleanliness would be double what they are.  Not filthy by any means, but not exactly pristine either.  What you would expect a kitchen to look like behind closed doors.

The service was great.  The waiter was really helpful in making recommendations and the food came out quickly.   The food was OUTSTANDING.  From freshness to quality of ingredients, it was clear that they got their reputation for a reason.  However, everything was a version of what we asked for, but not exactly.  Things like sides being wrong and we got more oysters than we ordered.  All of these things the waiter knew as he was bringing them to us, apologized, and then brought us the right thing.  Even brought us another round of drinks on the house for all of the gaffs.  We really got a lot of food we didn't order.  However, it was all good and we didn't pay for it, so I would call that a win.

I almost think I would have to go back just to have the same meal.  It was just oddly delivered in a dated atmosphere.  However, the food did stand on it's own.  It far exceeded expectations.

I visited this restauraant years ago and couldn't remember why I hadn't returned until after joing a girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday. My husband and I shared the calamari. It was good, however we've had better. I had a steak with a serving of their crabcake, while my husband had the fried shrimp. The food was just ok in my opinion and overpriced for the quality. There are better seafood restaurants in the area I believe.

It's a seafood place, and I knew that going in, so it's my own fault that I got the burger and it tasted like Bigfoot's dick.

They actually have a pretty good draft selection for a restaurant like this on this side of town.

It's your standard meat and fish place with old world decor, lots of wood, and low-lit rustic feel to the interior.  I had a great evening with fantastic service and some really good food.  I was surprised to see the relatively low rating for this place on Yelp.  I really didn't notice any sanitation issues while I was there for drinks, dinner, dessert, and a couple of trips to the restroom.

I went for a customer dinner and will be likely to go back with clients in the future.  I will say that the specialty cocktail I had, basil manhattan I think, wasn't very good.  Stick with the strong pouring lady behind the counter, she knows what she's doing.

I brought my husband to Chequers, along with our 5-year-old son, for the Father's Day brunch buffet.  I have been here many times for client and customer lunches and have had good experiences.  I have always found the food to be consistently great, so when I was choosing a brunch spot for Father's Day, Chequers came to mind.

So, our reservations were at 11:15am and the place was hoppin'!!  Lots of people, lots of servers running around.  A bit of a chaotic scene at first, with long lines at the omelet station and buffet line, so I was hesitant that I wouldn't get my fill for the $25 per plate I was about to fork over.  In any event, we were quickly seated and attended to.

Their brunch menu is listed online, and includes everything but the kitchen sink.  Literally, there is a custom omelet station, fresh Belgian waffles, cream cheese blintz, carving station with ham, roast beef and dilled salmon, fruit and cheese, various cold pasta/orzo salads, peel-n-eat shrimp, eggs Benedict, eggs Florentine and the standard fare of bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns...and I'm sure I'm missing something.  They also had various types of sushi and sushi rolls.  I have read several reviews that the sushi wasn't good or wasn't served cold, but I had the opposite experience.  Admittedly, I am not a huge sushi fan, although I do enjoy rolls, but I can tell you it was cold, and it wasn't bad.

I can definitely see us returning for a special occasion, as it's a little pricey.  Only kids 4 and under are free, which means we paid $12 for our 5-year-old, who managed to eat one mini waffle and a piece of sausage.  Obviously I knew this going in, but regardless, it will preclude us from going more frequently.

I don't really like straying too far from my North Atlanta abode, so Chequers is right up my alley for a steakhouse. It seems that a lot of people have an issue with their pricing, but I I think it's pretty moderate. You can get out of the place with a tab under a $100 for two people, but that means you can't fully enjoy yourself and pop bottles of wine until they ask you to leave. That kinda fun is expensive, and this is Sandy Springs, not Buckhead.

I like this place because it has that feeling of an old-school, classic steakhouse a better-than-most wine selection and servers that know how to kiss your ass. The food is good too, but I was way more impressed with the vast amount of ass kissing.(It feels nice for someone to suck up to ME for once.)

Of course  two bottles of wine were purchased while dining, and the wine costed more than the meal, so that should tell you something. The goat cheese bruschetta was stellar, but I think anything involving goat cheese is stellar. The lobster mac and cheese was fantastic too. So, yeah, the food is good. It's not as if this place is an Outback and you can gorge for under $50, so control the hating.

My sweet, ass kissing server boxed up my leftovers for me and explained all about their righteous Sunday brunches and half off wine and appetizers on the Sabbath. Since I fully enjoy God's day of rest and cheap wine (because I'm very classy) I will be returning for their brunch or even to just have dinner again.

Ok, so I have a thing about buffets....I don't like them! People crowded around the food trough waiting on the server to bring a fresh pan-o-chicken; the impatient patrons that hoard all of the bread, the "fresh and good looking meat" and the kids...oh MAN let's not get on the kids that have no idea what tongues or serving utensils are therefore they proceed to stick their grubby, play-doh smelling, nose picking hands into the mac n' cheese.

Needless to say, I reluctantly accepted my friend's birthday brunch buffet request at Chequers. But I'm a friend, we sacrifice and sometimes, we are handsomely rewarded.

I was pleasantly surprised by the selection and I mean a vast selection of brunch buffet items on that chilly Sunday morning. Now, be forewarned that if you have a party of more than .5, make a reservation b/c this place jumps on Sundays. My gal pal is wise enough to have our table of about 8-10 reserved in a not-so-pleasant room (ok, the acoustics in the dome shaped room, OMG, you could hear conversations from the other side of the room. CLEARLY! Like you were using that tin can telephone in a tree house).

Ok, outside of being drowned out by the other tables conversation, the food was great. You have your standard breakfast fare: made-to-order omeletes, waffles, grits, eggs, meats, etc.; you brunch selections: chicken piccata, various shrimp dishes, green veggies, sushi (stay away from it), seasoned to perfection fried chicken drummettes; and of course your fruits, salads and a number of desserts. A fat kid's/skinny kid's/couch potato's dream.

Another strong suggestion - get there early. Once the "after 1pm" church crowd comes through, it is SUPER crowded and after being in church for 3hrs, they aren't so holy :).

1st time here I was impressed. 2nd time was horrible and I will NEVER come back.

This restaurant is too pretentious for no reason and like I said I will never return again. My partner and I went for Sunday brunch and the first time we came I was impressed, they had unique brunch options that are not offered at the numerous other brunches in the Atlanta area, such as their seafood dressing and fresh seafood options available to have put into your cooked to order omelette, but other than the seafood twist Chequers is just like every other Sunday brunch in the city. Their sushi is horrible by the way and it's WARM! GROSS!

What really ticked me off about this place was the service both times, but particularly the second time. Both times I most definitely got a racist vibe from the staff. Black people aren't stupid and we notice these things, especially those who are not from the South and know how we are suppose to be treated.
Secondly, I came to this restaurant twice for Sunday brunch just 2 weeks apart and had the SAME old white man server both times and on our second visit he did not recognize me and my partner, and asked if this was our first time dining with them! After he asked that I really lost my appetite! Talk about horrible customer service!

I will NEVER return here. I will keep my business at Copelands in Buckhead and Ray's on the River. Now those two restaurants know how to deliver quality customer service! Chequers go and take NOTES!

I work right down the street from Chequers and it's a very popular business lunch venue, so I've been many times - I've also been several times for dinner and brunch, and I have to say - I don't get it.  The popularity, that is. There's just absolutely nothing special about it.

The food is very consistent - consistently average, and pretty bland.  They love to promote their crab cakes, but they are frankly quite average.  Today at lunch I had a fish I'd never heard of, but it was described as similar to chilean sea bass.  And it was fine - but bland. It was served over a mushroom risotto. Which was good, but nothing special (I make a lot of risottos, and mine are consistently better).  Started with the Lobster Bisque, which was good - but really, how hard is it to make a good lobster bisque?  I've had many that were just as good, and quite a few that were better.

That's the theme of my many visits.  I will say the atmosphere is definitely good for business lunches, and the service is consistently good - based on that, I'd probably give it 2.5 stars if I could.

If the prices were about 25% lower, I'd give it 3 stars. But since everything about Chequers is high end, including the prices, and the food just isn't up to par, I have to go 2 stars.

This review is based solely on Brunch. And it was O-so-good! Come hungry please! This is brunch, so I'm assuming you will come without having eaten already. Don't be greedy.

Upon seeing the delicious array of food you will want to stuff your face silly and will try to fill your plate until you deny yourself a little self-respect and suck up the potential dirty looks by your peers, but not to worry, they will do it too. So sit, enjoy and order a little OJ (the deal comes with a drink). And just when you think you can't eat anymore, you will get up and head to the Belgian waffle station because this is the right thing to do, after all you're in America. Horay for delicious brunch food!

    Can't wait to comeback.

Ate here for brunch on Sunday and I'm still full!  Their brunch is $23 for adults.  Their Sunday spread is just nuts!

I had an omelet at the omelet station, a slice of prime rib, a plate of shrimp, fresh slices of Salmon, sausage, bacon, eggs benedict, broccoli, lobster macaroni, crawfish stuffing, and something else. I think I still have food coma from eating there.  Anyways a lot of food and quality for brunch is spectacular!

Other things on the brunch menu are: Fondu station, Belgian waffles, a lot of fresh fruits, every breakfast item you can imagine, sushi yes sushi! , smoked ham, and more.

Get ready for lots of delicious food for the brunch buffet! We came to celebrate a dear friend's bday and it was fabulous! We were seated in a private room which was intimate. Make sure you make reservations for brunch bc it is packed!

Some of my faves were the waffles, roast beef, and of course the chocolate fountain! Everything I had on my plate was divine! Some items include peel and eat shrimp, smoked salmon, crab cake and shrimp stuffing, sushi rolls, and all your average breakfast foods. There was an omelet station as well as a carving station which had ham and roast beef. Plus, an array of desserts.
The buffet is $24 per person which includes juice. With great food, service, and company, what more can you ask for?

Did you know?  You can get a free birthday entree (up to $25) if you sign up for their mailings.

So obviously I came here on a birthday dinner.  Most restaurants do free desserts, but free entree with no minimum purchase?  Thats unbelievable.

I came here with another friend for the first time just to check it out.  The ambiance reminds me of a 20's style atmosphere, wooden tables, dark decor, and a rustic feel.  It's not really my style, but I can see other people having a whisky while chatting with their friends in black leather booths.  The service and staff are extremely friendly, which is a nice plus.

However, the food was just plain a-ok.  i had gotten the seared sea scallops and it's not really anything amazing.  They plain sear it with little to no seasoning so its not really my thing.  However, the mussels as the appetizer was great.  Loved it........ the curry gave it a little kick and added great flavor.

Overall, our price was great.  However, I prob would skip out and try something else if I didn't have that coupon.

Well, it's been my second visit to Chequers and again I was not super impressed.  Good thing both visits were paid for by work.  I would actually give it 2.5 stars if I could.  I've had the sampler appetizer platter, which came with calamari, shrimp scampi, and crab cake.  For entrees I've tried the lobster ravioli and the seafood mixed grill.  I've also had bites of my co-workers Opa fish and Ahi tuna.

The calamari was dry and a bit too chewy.  I also didn't care for the batter they used for the calamari.  The shrimp scampi was ok, nothing to scream about.  The best part of the sampler platter was the crab cake.  Yum!  It was flavorful, meaty, and just a good solid crab cake.  You can't go wrong with the crab cake.

I don't remember the lobster ravioli at all, so it must have not been very good.  The seafood mixed grill came with shrimp, scallops, crab cake, salmon, and I got lobster mac and cheese for my side.  The shrimp and scallops were ok.  They were actually a little overcooked, which made them tougher and more chewy than they should've been. The crab cake was good, and the salmon was a little dry but flavorful.  The entree that I enjoyed the most was my co-worker's Opa.  It was a nice and light piece of fish battered in a light crust.  The Opa was very tasty, and it's probably what I'll order my next visit there.  My other co-worker raved about his Ahi Tuna, but I thought it was just ok.  He claims that I didn't get a good bite.

The lobster mac and cheese was a huge disappointment.  It was the one thing I was looking forward to trying, but what a major let down!  It was cheesy, but not flavorful, and it only had 5 small pieces of lobster in it.  They forgot the lobster and seasoning!

Another huge disappointment was the creme brulee.  You would think a restaurant of that caliber would know that the caramel top of a creme brulee is supposed to be hard.  We should have to break into the creme brulee, not easily scoop out the first bite.  What a poor excuse of a creme brulee.

Despite my negative review, I have not lost faith in the possibility of good food at Chequers due to my three bites of the Opa fish, the crab cakes, and other yelpers' positive reviews.  Hopefully my updated review of Chequers will be a positive one.

    Happy Birthday, Tulie!!!

Such fun tonight. It'd been awhile since I had been to Chequers, a place I've loved since I was a child for their amazing brunch. A bunch of Yelpers gathered to fete Ms. Tulie on her day, and it was super!!!

The lobster "special" is a deal, especially with prices of lobster these days  - currently $9.95 for a perfectly prepared 1-lb lobster served with drawn butter. Mmmm. (Well, creepy to look at afterwards, and I'm not big on the work that goes into dismantling, but the meat is good!)

"Happy Hour" specials include great items from the menu, served as apps, plus wine and cocktail specials. Get the strawberry mojito if you want a cocktail - so pretty and sooo good (and not minty, which for me is a big plus). Other special price picks include the calamari (yum- and almost all rings, not tentacles, which I really don't like) and the tuna tartare.

I got a Caesar salad - very good - and also tried a bite of the oh-so-good hamburger (served on this amazing focaccia, cheese optional) - delicious!!

To wrap up the whole summary of the night, so to speak, the patio where we sat was lovely and our server did a terrific job (service- and attention-wise, plus not batting an eye at 82 credit cards being thrown down!). I will be back soon, for dinner, brunch, or . . . whatever!! Two thumbs up.

Awesome happy hour.  Loved it so much when Tulie got the group together that I convinced one of my organizations to have a happy hour there a few weeks later.  After all, you can't beat $1 oysters and $13 lobster.

While the service is mostly impressive (automatically splitting checks for large parties!), the bar service is highly variable.  While my situation was nothing like Adam R's pineapple martini roulette, I was miffed when my blackberry lemonade did not have fresh blackberries, the way the others at the table did.  But for a $6 cocktail, I guess you're taking your chances!  While the bellinis are good (though they look more like mimosas than bellinis), my favorite is the Gentleman's cocktail, mainly on account of the fresh berries that make it taste so light and refreshing.

I've only eaten off the happy hour menu, since those deals were impressive enough for me.  The cheesy drop biscuits are served with deliciously fluffy whipped butter - thank goodness they only put one on your plate, because if it had been a basket, I wouldn't have been able to resist.  Yes, the lobster is good, but the tuna tartar, with it's mix of spicy oil and thin-sliced cucumbers is delicious!

In my mind, the way that I establish the difference between a 3 and 4 star review often lands on whether or not there'd be a return trip. With a 3 star, I'd happily return if someone else mentioned the spot or wanted to go there for some reason, with a 4 star, I personally would want to meet people there or plan something.

So yep, Chequers is a 3 star. There's nothing distinctly wrong with it, I had a great time, and I'd certainly return, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to invite friends there or necessarily even recommend it. Unless you're looking for a great deal. And at happy hour, they've certainly got one here.

From 4 to 7 any drink (pretty much) is a mere $6. And these are true specialty drinks: muddled fruit, premium liquors, the whole bit. And they still serve 'em plenty strong even for the weak price. For that, I give Chequers mad props, and I'd definitely recommend their drink specials.

However, the food fell a little short. While everything I sampled was very tasty at the discounted happy hour price, I would have been more than a little perturbed to pay the full (much higher) prices for the very average food. Nothing was bad, nothing was good. I didn't sample the lobster, but the goat cheese bruschetta was filling and forgettable and the white wine mussels were plentiful (again, especially for the $6 price) yet barely passable.

If I was looking for a spot to really focus on getting my fancy-drink on for a low price, Chequers would certainly top my list. The patio was perfect for our large group and there were lots of drinks to choose from: a refreshing change from the limited menus of most discounts these days.

"You gotta eat. What are you doin'?"

"No, not Checkers Drive-Thru, we're taking you to checkers-with-a-queue."

"Uh, haven't they all got a queue when they're busy?"

    "C-H-E-Q-U-E-R-S."

    "Okay, if you say so."

I'm vegetarian, and there were no vegetarian entrees, but one of our servers (the one who didn't look like Bald Bull crossed with Charles Barkley) promised to bring me a mixed veg plate with sauteéd spinach, asparagus, and (at my request) some of the jícama-lime slaw.

What I got was a bowl of penne with slabs of red bell pepper, chunks of ordinary mushrooms, and a tablespoon of red pesto in a central mound.  (Perhaps I exaggerate.  It could have been a scoop from a #40 disher--a tablespoon and a half.)  No asparagus, no sauteéd spinach, and, alas, no jícama-lime slaw.

I kept mum, being on a business lunch at someone else's expense and all, but I was disappointed.  The quality of the food was pretty good -- better than chain-restaurant pasta, certainly, unless you count Figo -- but with a team of two servers, I'd have hoped one of them would have noticed my meal wasn't anything like what it was supposed to be.

Accessibility: Good, except the bathroom.  The handicapped stall is so small that you'd have to leave your chair on the other side of the stall door, which didn't close the first two times I tried it.  I finally tugged it shut with two hands and a foot lifting the door up from beneath.

Actually, the bathroom sucked overall.  There's no partition between the first urinal and the bathroom door (good for well-hung exhibitionists, bad for everyone else), and the partition between the two urinals wiggled back and forth several inches in either direction.  C'mon, guys, you sell $15-20+ entrees at LUNCH.  Reinvest a little bit in the part of your restaurant where your customers will have nothing on their mind except the quality of their surroundings.

On the positive side, Chequers is fantastically close to the Dunwoody (N9) MARTA station.  You could do dinner-and-a-show without having to park near the Fox -- you can park at Dunwoody, eat at Chequers, and take the train to North Avenue and walk 1 block to the theater.

All the same, though, I passed up the offer of $10 off my next entreé and $25 off a birthday dinner (with email signup).  I've more often gotten what I ordered at that OTHER Checkers.

Visited the restaurant on a Sat night with 3 guests. Overall we had a nice experience. We all opted to use the $30 per fixe menu (Appy, entree and dessert).

We ordered either the gumbo or a standard saled for our appetizers. Salad was nothing less than we expected. The gumbo was very good.

3 orders of sea scallops and 1 order of crab cakes comprised our entree selections. All were excellent. The scallops were cooked perfectly.

The dessert choice was between either a creme brulee with fresh berries or an oreo cheesecake. Huge portions and well prepared.

The waiter did try to upsell us a number of times.

    We will return.

Pretty good seafood. Crab cakes are delicious.

Service was ok, server didn't seem too happy to be there, alot of upselling.

Got the seafood mixed grill. Shrimp, scallops, crap cakes, salmon and mashed potatoes. Very good, alot of variety.

Excellent seafood restaurant.  Great for special occasions.  The raw oysters are amazing and the crab cakes are melt-in-your-mouth.  I also had the surf & turf once and ate every single bite.  My husband loves getting the Cioppino (fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams in a red-wine tomato sauce).  Dessert is great too--I loved the cheesecake, the key lime pie and the creme brulee.

The ambience is nice.  If you're with a group of 5 or more, ask to sit in  one of the private "alcoves".  Service has always been top-knotch.

They also have a Sunday brunch that I've yet to try.

When my friend emailed us about eating for lunch here, I thought he had misspelled "Checkers" (as in the drive through, 99 cent hamburger place), and I was preparing my stomach for a little grease assault and dining in my car. But apparently those that live or work in the Dunwoody area are all about some "Chequers" - I, on the other hand, had never ever seen or heard of this place.

The exterior looks like a carry over from the 90s, and the decor is a strange mix of elegant -bringing visions of vintage railway dining cars to my head. We sat at the bar, with our waiter being in full white shirt, black vest regalia. The menu has some fancier entrees, but also some sandwiches in the $11-15 range as well.

    The two main takeaways:

    1. The large, large pickle I got with my sandwich is the biggest I have ever received as a side. Seriously. Huge.

    2. The happy hour specials at the bar from 4 - 7 sound pretty awesome - especially the one involving a lobster that rivals the price of the sandwich I had.

Now that I'm fully schooled in Chequers (and not 'Checkers,' mind you), it seems like a great business lunch, date if you're in the Perimeter area anyway and want to be a little more creative than Chain-ville, and, of course, a grand place for a happy hour that involves seafood.

So everyday driving to work, I pass this place, and made several mental notes to try it out.  Eventually I finally had an opportunity when Falicia G. and Deanna J. and I went to lunch.

I was surprised to find they offered free Wi-Fi, however, only at the bar. (Which makes sense because it probably is "rude" to be typing away on your laptop in the dining room, but hey, this is America, but I digress.)

I had the Lump Crab Cake sandwich on Sourdough bread, which was REALLY good, and Lobster Risotto as my side item.  The risotto made me want to hurl, but I politely and painfully swallowed it until it was half way finished.

Oh yeah, the waiter also advised us that they offer happy hour food specials daily from 4:00p.m.-7:00p.m!  Which means they sometimes have $5.00 lobsters!  Yeah, I'll be making a v-line back to Checkers after work!

Overall, it was a pleasurable experience making me want more.  Please, sir, my I have another?

This is one of those places that's filled with suits during the day.  It's surrounded by local businesses.  I came for lunch so it was quiet, relaxed, and the service at the bar was good.  The menu is fill with seafood selections, which was a welcome surprise.  I chose the Maryland Style Crab-cakes.  They were a descent chunk of change and I have to admit that I was a little disappointed when they came out.  I'm paying nearly $20 for this and I can barely see the crab cakes.  But, I was definitely wrong.  The look was deceiving.  I could barely finish those bad boys!  And they were fantastic.  They came with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus.  Friends of mine both had the crab cake sandwich which the loved.  The food gets two thumbs up.

The atmosphere was a little stuffy: dark decor, heavy napkins, little lighting.  The Wi-Fi was also not working well.  (I felt a little awkward using Wi-Fi in a restaurant like this.  It just didn't seem to fit.)  Other than that, it's a good restaurant.

    Inconsistent food, and sloppy service.

I used to like this place, until a waitress spilled a plate-full of hot shrimp scampi on my head and shoulders.  And we are talking "spilled, not dripped".  While no one likes hot garlic sauce on their skin and clothes (even for stubborn dandruff treatment), I would have probably forgiven them - anyone can make a mistake - had they not handled it so poorly:
I got like 500 apologies, to the point that it became annoying, and just as many empty promises to take care of it. First the lady said "the food is on us", then she came back in 10 minutes and said "dry cleaners is on us", and then she brought a full bill like nothing happened. We paid it and left. Manager never showed up.

On a more bright note, I like their biscuits, and the food is pretty good, though they tend to "variate" it every time, which tells me that either they change chefs often, or the chef is lacking consistency which is not good for return business.

    It's pricey.

The best part of having dinner here, besides the fact that my employer paid for it, was the absolutely fabulous seafood works of gastronomic art.

My recommendations are the almond crusted scallops, Chilean sea bass, and the steak. The scallops are sooo soft, but not mushy and definitely  not rubbery. The crushed almond creates the most wonder texture and imparts a subtle flavor to the perfectly flavored scallops. The next piece of art is the sea bass. It just seemed to melt in my mouth and release the full flavor of the bass, without being fishy.  Lastly, the steak, the part of the meal I looked forward to the most.  Full flavor and soft even though I ordered it medium well. Yes, yes, not the most recommended level of doneness but THAT"S THE WAY I LIKE IT!  SO LEAVE ME ALONE.  :-)  Probably the best steak I have ever had. Too bad I'll have to take a plane to GA if I ever want to have it again.  I live in L.A. (Los Angeles)

I would highly recommend Chequers if you want to impress someone or take your special someone out to a nice well above average nice dinner.

I have a special place in my heart for this place so my review may not be the most objective.  I've been here more times than I can count for so many different celebrations; birthdays, engagements, divorces, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Groundhog Day.  The list goes on and on.

Chequer's just never disappoints.  The food is out of this world.  Service is top notch.  Valet parking makes fighting for a place in the small parking lot painless.

The Sunday Brunch is my favorite time to go.  If you don't read anything else I write here, please read this:  MAKE     A       RESERVATION.  Please.  For the love of all that is holy, MAKE A RESERVATION.  It is an extremely popluar brunch restaurant so if you wake up on Sunday at 11 a.m. and decide you want brunch, this is NOT the place to drop by.  A reservation is a must.  The wait without one can be up to 2 hours.

The selection is great, from traditional breakfast foods to very specialized seafood dishes (crab and shrimp stuffing is my all time fave).  Waffles, omelettes, carved ham and pork loin, smoked salmon, peel and eat boiled shrimp bigger than your head.  Yummy, yummy.

If you're celebrating something, or you just want really, really good food, I can't think of any reason NOT to come to Chequer's.
