Food was the same as any other Chickie's I've been to - excellent :) I downgraded my review one star because the ambience of any other location I've been to is far superior. My favorite is actually Warrington on 611. Â That location is never really too crowded, great food, great atmosphere.
Review Source:I'm torn on how to rate Chickie's & Pete's as I've had both good and not so great experiences there. I'll spell it out on my experience, and I'll let you, the Yelp review reader, to decide.
The good - great sports bar atmosphere and decor. Our first time here, we came in on a Friday evening. Crowded, but did not have to wait for a table. Â Our server got our drink order quickly. We decided to go for mixed (regular and sweet potato) fries, hot and cold shrimp and then I ordered the lobster cheesesteak. Â We enjoyed everything and had a great time.
The bad - Our next time here, we ordered wings and the lobster pizza for take-out. Mixed opinion - the wings were tasty but I found the lobster pizza not to my taste. It was a thin crust (not the problem) white pizza with globs of lobster meat. It may have been the white pizza which I have not ordered much, but it was bland and the lobster meat was very rubbery. I ended up dunking my slices in bottled marinara sauce and still could not bring myself to finish the pizza.
To sum it up - stick with the seafood items and eat in.
Chickies is a solid 3 (and a 1/2) star bar. Â Food can be pricey, as are mixed drinks. Â But a good place to watch a game and throw back a few. Â Chickie's has always been a better fit for me, rather then the other sports bars/pubs in the area. Â It can get loud, but typically everyone is there to get along and have a nice time. Â I will order the crabfries if I am hungry. Â Not spectacular, and not terrible. Â It's a very decent place to go.
Review Source:*3.5 Stars*
I don't know what to make of this place. It's a sportbar, a crab house and pub all in one. They are known for their mussels and fries. There are a few locations and have seen them in the Philly area for the most part. This one in particular was near my fiance's friends place in Jersey. On a Saturday night the wait wasn't terrible. The noise level wasn't overwhelming loud which is unfortunately normal at similar places like this one. Since we had never been there before we decided to set up our own tapas plates (not available but read on). Keep in mind, unless you specify, they will bring your entire order out at once (including the apps).
Apps:
Crab fries -- Delicious. Two side cheese dipping sauces complimented it.
Crab Nachos -- Meh. The chips were a bit stale and it was mostly lettuce and small chunks of crab. Would opt out of it next time
Meal (we split four entrees):
Mussels Red - Pretty good. Not too bad for a sportsbar. They do give you a bunch.
Lobster Roll - Quite appetizing. Loads of lobster. Not too much mayo. The right seasoning.
Chicken Cheesesteak -- Didn't get a chance to try it. Table consensus was thumbs up.
Roast Port Sandwich (Green Style) -- Good but can never compare with the Tony Luke's version.
Service:
*attentive, friendly and extra points for letting us know about the apps/meals coming out the same time.
Ambiance:
*you can tell that on a football Sunday it's mayhem. Lots of sports items all around. Good for groups too.
ENJOY!
I am giving this place 3 stars based on the variety of the menu. Â The atmosphere in this place is that of a 1980s bar. Â The dark wood gets pretty drab and this coming from someone that doesn't place much emphasis on atmosphere. Â The food? Â From what we tasted, it was decent. Â The pepperoni pizza was quite greasy, although it was a decent thin crust pizza that I thought was decent. Â The chicken strips were also pretty greasy, however they were of high quality. Â The peel & eat hot shrimp were well done. Â As for the famous fries, they are overpriced frozen fries that are seasoned with an Old Bay knockoff. Â They make a point to tell you that all menu items come "a la carte". Â This leads me to believe that the fries are a bit of a cash cow for them, as they have one size that costs $6 that is recommended for 2 people. Â In actuality the fries are good for at least 3 people and the $6 price tag is way too high for what they are serving. Â None of the sandwiches or other entrees come with fries. Â Â Kudos for them to come up with such a clever money making gimmick. Â Service was decent, however it was in the middle of the afternoon so there weren't any other tables. Â There is a note on the receipt recommending an 18-20% tip. Â Note to Chickie and Pete, maybe you should pay your staff what they deserve instead of having the customers do it for you. Â Doubt I would come back.
Review Source:Ahh I almost feel bad giving this place a bad review because I feel like they try so hard.
So I will get the bad out of the way first.
We had a semi-large party and none of the food came out at even close to the same time. My uncle was done eating his food by the time mine came out. The fries were good but were not as epic as I had anticipated.
And they didn't have any real silverware! Imagine that... A restaurant with no silverware.
The good part is, the beer selection, and the crabs. I had the snow crab legs and although I could get the same quality and taste at Joe's Crab Shack, this was marginally cheaper.
Overall I think i came here with my expectations set too high. I expected this to be more of a semi-classy crab joint but its more like a hooters without the goods. If you are in line for that you will most likely enjoy this place thoroughly.
Wait-how have I not reviewed this place yet? I go here at least twice a month-Chickie and Pete's has ruined me from other crab places. Now, if I ever order crabs, they better be served dirty Maryland style aka dripping with juice. Â The seasoning makes other restaurants crabs pale in comparison. Â Now when I eat other crabs I think they're too dry, too tasteless, etc. Â If you come here-get the crabs! It's well worth the price. Â The other food is just regular bar food.
This location is obviously not as packed as the original one in South Philly but it still draws quite a crowd during Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, and Phils games.
I was in from out of town and needed WiFi and a power outlet. Â I was setup in a nice spot to watch football games, work, and conduct a remote fantasy draft. Â I was expecting high prices based on other reviews but almost every item on the menu was under $10. Â Would definitely come back next time I'm in the area.
Review Source:Beautiful bar. Â Shelves to the ceiling stocked with lots of liquor. Â Hard to find a place with a bar that nice. Â Bar area is very well planned? Â Lots of room to group together and chat as well as watch three screens placed on the bar and one HUGE TV on the wall. Â They werelay baseball, soccer, golf and football.
They have great cheesesteaks and pork sandwiches as wel as wings.i eat out all the time and the fare is normal nothing new to rave about. Â Howeve, I LOVE thin crust New York style pizza. Â They have it in many varieties. Â They had a lobster pizza and we chose a crab pizza which was delicious. Â I mean so much crab. Â It was a white pizza nice and crispy. Â
Delicious.
They also have all you can eat crabs. Â 35.00 and I asked the waiter what days. Â Monday to Thursday. Â You can sit there from 11:00 to 11:00 and just eat crabs. Â The record was someone ate 200.00 dollars worth of crabs. Â Next time back I want to try the crab fries. Â Yum!
I highly recommend. Â There is another location at the Philadelphia airport and in Philadelphia.
Bon Jovi loves this place I hear.
The waiter was so nice, friendly and on top of things.
been here last night with friends:
- we got fried calamari for appetizer, it was crispy good. the cherry peppers and marinara side dips complemented it.
- mussels in white sauce served either with bread or pasta, the way they cook it was good
- buffalo wings are just like any other buffalo wings.
downside:
- price
- they should be serving the bread that goes with the mussels, hot. it came to us very cold.
- after downing 6 bottles of beer, what  better way to sober up than having a cup of coffee...which they don't have!
- waitress should know when to change plates (specially when your orders are mussels and crabs) more than asking "how's everything guys?"
This is my wife's and I go to place in our area to catch a Phillies game and we are never disappointed. Â My wife is happy since she gets to eat her crab fries. Â I don't go crazy over them as I prefer the sweet potato fries. Â My fav dish though is the cheesesteak nachos...I just love them. Â During Phillies games some beers are only $2 so it makes for a good time. Â Also have had the all you can eat crab legs here during the week. Â I didn't like the sauce they had them in but the crab itself was very good. Â There are a couple of other sports bars in walking distance from here, but this is far and above the best of all of them.
Review Source:The food is pretty good. Â I esp. like their pizza, which actually tastes more like pizza from the next day and for some strange reason I like it. Â The drinks are a little pricey and not generous. Â The seafood is okay but I've tasted must tastier crab. Â They serve dungeness which is unusual for the east coast. Â Dungeness is a west coast crab. Â Most of the crabs served on the east coast are small. Â Took some getting used eating small crabs that are more trouble than they are worth. Â I would prefer if was a little more spicey but when I'm having a craving, the price is reasonable. Â The bartenders and waitresses are nice and friendly. Â Ate there for my B-Day and actually had a really fun time. Â Maybe it was the martinis!
Review Source:went there on Sunday and was a good time. Â Ordered Combo Fries - bangin'...came with 2 sauces, i enjoyed the honey one on the sweet potato fries more. Â Shared a lobster pizza with my friend and it was OK, i am sure there are better items on the menu but he picked. Â Great place to go with a few friends, eat like pigs and drink like fish while watching a game. Â I will go again if when in the area
Review Source:Terrible service, awful atmosphere, bland food. Â The Crab Fries are their claim to fame, and they're OK - but they're just fries with Old Bay seasoning. Â There are definitely places where you can get better. My chicken cutlet sandwich was gross ... and can I get a piece of lettuce and tomato? Â Come on.
Review Source:After my experience last night I don't think I'll be going back.
Their notorious crab fries...I just don't get the appeal? They're overly salty regular, below-average size fries DROWNING in Old Bay seasoning...with some kind of tarter sauce on the side. I thought since they were called CRAB FRIES...they would have CRAB in it? Nope? Just me? Okay...
Anyway. I was recommended the cheesesteak by one of my friends I was eating with and I was really in the mood for one so I went ahead and ordered it. On the menu it says...
Cheesesteak $7
Add Cheese $1
Extra Toppings $1
So after I said I wanted a cheesesteak the waitress gives me this weird look (In retrospect, I am assuming it was the look of hunger for a bigger tip). She says "You want JUST the cheesesteak, nothing else on it?" Â Well, I'm not one to skimp on toppings so I say "okay...add mushrooms, peppers, and fried onions."
I get the cheesesteak and while it's good, the bread to steak ratio was not right, and the bread was winning. The cheese and steak was very good but my toppings were rather sparse...I only identified maybe two distinct mushrooms and one pepper. I am assuming the rest of them were sucked into the bread monster that was engulfing the entire sandwich.
Then I get the bill. I was charged over 10 bucks. (Insert wtf face) So I was charged for the cheese on what was advertised on the menu as a CHEESESTEAK not a STEAK SANDWICH. Then I was charged a dollar PER EVERY TOPPING. This in itself is ridiculous but my biggest beef (or steak, in this case) is the misleading menu and how the waitress presented the whole thing.
I know it is in your interest to inflate the bill for a bigger tip...but if you use underhanded tactics you screw yourself in the end by warranting no tip at all. (I know some of you may be concerned but don't worry, I still tipped her.)
I don't know why my friend loves this place so much...It is super overpriced and overrated. And she suggests it for DINNER? Drinks okay, but you gotta be out of your bloomin' mind to eat here. (Unless you happen to like those fries.)
CRAB FRIES CRAB FRIES CRAB FRIES! I always got their fries when I went to Phillies games but never actually had been to any of their locations prior to this one. I came here expecting it to be P.J. Whelihan's-eque since they are a big sports bar. However, in addition to the fries, the sandwiches were banging! Roast pork as well as roast beef sandwiches are awesome. Pizza is also highly recommended. Now call me stingy, but I feel as though the sandwiches are a little on the small side. However, this is in comparison to places such as DiNic's, John's Roast Pork, and Primo Hoagies, BUT the important thing here is quality and quality is what Chickie's and Pete's delivers. Will return.
Review Source:This is a great place for many different occasions. Â Its a great sports bar, you could be anywhere and always have a flat screen within eye shot. Â Down by the bar theres a huge and I mean HUGE screen on the wall, probably well over 100in. Â What I like most is that during football season they play the game and it sound so you can hear the crowd, announcer, etc. Â and when the commercial breaks come on they play music. Â Niccccce. Â The also have a $2 beer allday everyday (forget which one though). Â Now the food... Yesss its true what they say about the crab fries, you DO need them in your life. Â Well seasoned and always crisp on the outside soft on the inside. Â Imagine crab chips, only 10x better. Â The service is pretty standard here, not too bad nor too great. Â And lastly the main event... The ALL-U-CAN-EAT crabs. Â They are delicious, Chickie & Petes version of "maryland style" isn't accurate by any mean but it doesn't matter because they are still very good. Â Savory seasoning, garlic, red pepper, old bay, mmmmm. Â You will get a bit messy but if you eat crabs you already know that. Â The reason for the 3*s instead of four is because it takes sooo long between orders. Â They only serve up 3! at time, and the wait is atleast 10 min inbetween. Â I told the waitress I want 2 orders at a time and to keep them coming and still ended up waiting a few times. Â I suspect a better waitress would have been more on top of this but I have have that happen to me more than once here. Â Also, it used to be an everyday thing year round but now it appears that you can only get allucaneat on Mon-Thurs now. Â Be advised that its $35 pp for the Blue Claw or Snow Crab, $45 if you want both. Â That's a little expensive to me but it hasn't stopped me from going yet. Â I recommend going with someone and order 1 of each and just share. Â They wont mind that either.
Review Source:Chickie's & Pete's is always a good idea. This was my first time at this location and I'd return if in the area. The music suggested someone is a big No Doubt fan. It was a quieter time and no game was on so not much was going on besides eating and the service was adequate. I ordered Shock Top beer, which I know I enjoy. I'm a sucker for the plain salad with crab fries and signature dressing and had the leftovers for lunch today.
Review Source:Bordentown Chickie's & Pete's has its time and place. Â That time is NOT a weekday at lunch time. Â I would frequently meet my brother here for lunch and we always had a pretty rotten experience, mediocre at best. Â The only reason we kept coming back was it was a mid-way point for both of us and we'd devour those yummy crab fries. Â We used to always get the same waitress who would forget our requests for utensils, refills, etc. and would be loudly on the phone trying to pay her bills. Â Not sure if she's still there as we had to just stop going and being abused.
I've been back during other times, an odd Sunday afternoon or recently a Sunday night during football season, and the service is actually pretty good. Â When there are games on, the place is packed out and will be quite noisy with rowdy fans of every team playing. Â As someone else mentioned the area forces this restaurant to split their loyalties in half, with half of the restaurant festooned with Eagles stuff and the other half Giants. Â That can bug a really hardcore fan (like my husband), but what you can say.
I've already mentioned that the crab fries rock (no crab, just Old Bay seasoning and two cups of melty cheese), the snow crab legs are *awesome* but totally messy, hence the sinks to go wash your hands while you eat. Â Steamed clams are gross here, and the cold shrimp are not worth $9 by any means. Â The pizzas are yummy...more like tomato pies & sandwiches are ok. Â There's no kid's menu so bring a juice box or a sippy cup and plan on sharing some chicken strips or pizza with your youngster.
All in all it's an enjoyable place if you go at the right times and order the right things.
This is a consistently awesome Chickie's location. Â We have been here many, many times and have never had a bad experience. Â You are sat promptly, the crab fries are always fresh and hot (if you know me...you know nothing pisses me off more than stale, room temp fries...if I'm eating the calories, I want it to be worth my while).
Food...
Get the lobster pizza. Â It's oily and delicious and garlicy and gooey.
Get the lobster cheese steak so you can say....I got the lobster cheese steak. Â There is a very generous helping on lobster on top of it.
Get the roast beef sandwich...it's HUGE. Â Provolone. Â Do it. Â Do it.
Get the roast pork. Â Same as the RB sandwich.
Get the beer towers...I don't care if people are concerned about their sanitation...not sure where that rumor came from, but that is a tower of awesome.
The martinis are big.
The servers are always polite and will put your game on if you ask.
Cheap....sofa king cheap...a HUGE sandwich for what...6.95?
OH THE CRABS. Â DOY.
Very generous serving size...the garlicy oily goodness they are tossed in is fantastic.
I've never been to the original location of this...so I may be way off of what Chickie's should be...but this Chickies that is, is phenomenal.
The entrees were so so here. But you have to order the crab fries. There is no actual crab on them, but they are the most delicious fries I have eaten. They are crinkle cut, very crispy and well seasoned fries served with this melty white cheese sauce. My friend and I could have made a meal out of these alone!
Review Source:My husband and I went her for the first time this weekend. We were looking for a steak house but landed her. We had the small crabs and the snow crab legs. The snow crab legs are the way to go. They are covered slightly with Old Bay seasoning and a garlic sauce. They are messy but were tasty. The Crabfries were good, they are covered in oldbay seasoning and dipped in melted american cheese. Good but something that you can make at home. The place was not crowded and the wait staff was nice. Just hope you don't eat here when there is a screaming child and parents that can't control their him. Would eat her again.
Review Source:I have to admit... I used to prefer this location because of the smoking ban ;-)
Now I prefer it because you never have to wait for a table, and it's a less rowdy crew (compared to the NE Philly location). Â During the day, you'll see a lot of military eating here.
We tend to order the same thing every time: Seafood Chowder, Hot Shrimp, Mussels in Red Sauce, and Clams in White. Â They are all fabulous. Â I miss it all very much ;-)
Um... if you order the above, wear something you don't care about. Â You will be a mess ;-) Â That in itself is another reason to visit the Bordentown location- You need to look "cute" at the NE Philly locations, and you end up getting grease all over your clothes. Â not good!
Some friends of mine didn't want to cross over the bridge, so we went here, 20 Min away. It's north, so you get alot of more rural , not alot of cultures. It is Bordentown. but nevertheless, crab -fries still good, but the crowd gave us weird stares, guess we were the united nations, mixed in. all in all, nice night, but not a Chickie & Pete's location favor too often. Service took too long.
Review Source:We decided to drive 40 minutes to the bordentown locations on a sunday afternoon because there was a flyers game in south philly. Â That location gets way too crowded on game days. Â
We arrived just as the flyers clinched a playoff berth in a shootout which was nice to celebrate. Â
Sports Note: this is in south jersey but close to north jersey , so you may meet some NYC fans there. If thats not your thing.
Food: Â Pretty good.
The crab fries are excellent as always
I almost always get their pepperoni pizza, which is awesome. Â It seems out of place, but the crust is thin and crispy and pepperoni almost too well done, but crispy as well.
Snow crabs (chickie style) which is like in a spicy garlic oil is the best way to go. Â They seems to get the top choice crabs in the region. Â Never dried out or over cooked.
Salads are pretty good.
Sandwiches are ok, but all seem to be built off some chicken tender/fingers for everything. Â
For a place to enjoy the game and get the most consistent crabs around, this is your place. Â Its not cheap, but its worth it.
And not a bad alternative to waiting 1.5 hours at the packer avenue location on busy game day.
Crab fries w/ cheese sauce....you'll be HOOKED!! I don't know about anyone else, but when I eat fries I always dig for those crisp/crunchy ones. With these crab fries...no digging necessary! Every single thin sliced crinkle cut fry is just that! Then it's topped with a seasoning that's not overdone. The cheese sauce is just the icing on the cake...mMmmMM! Melted yummyness...no perverts...not what you're thinking.
Anyway, I also tried the Philly Style pork sandwich (because it was something different) and it did not satisfy at all. The pork came out nice and juicy/tender, but the sandwich was very bland and after about the fourth bite I was tired of it. Not much flavor and the massive amounts of pork overpowered whatever else was between the bun and it started tasting like straight pork with no seasoning. To top it off, the juices from the pork sogged up the bread and made it worse.
This place is worth the visit just for it's crab fries alone, so I'd say give it a try and form your own opinion. While they give you literally a mini tug boat full of fries...this is not to be shared...after one bite you might have a fight on your hands if someone tries to reach over into your platter!
I came here with friends on a Saturday night, this place was packed! Sports bar atmosphere that serves up a variety of crabs. I'm a fan of crabs and had to try the dungeness crab... delicious! Also tried the white lobster pizza, crab fries, and buffalo wings. They were all pretty yummy. This is a great place to catch a game and eat some "man food". Service is very friendly and the mixed drinks are okay.
Review Source:The only Chickie and Pete's I previously visited was the airport location. Â I blamed the poor food quality on the fact that it was in an airport. Â Little did I know, that's Chickie and Pete's!! Â The food is comparable to that from my high school cafeteria, which still plagues my nightmares. Â Where to begin....
- the "World Famous" crab fries are over seasoned and the tasteless cheese sauce is served with a skim over the top,
- the chicken cutlets resemble something purchased from Sam's Club and then subsequently microwaved, and
- the beer selection blows plus the taps are dirty (instant headache).
But the food isn't where the suck ends. Â For a sports bar, it's poorly set up. Â With the exception of one giant blurry screen, they're so small you can't see the score or stats. Â And many of the seats in the bar don't have a good view of any screen. Â There are many other bars in the area which have a much better set up.
And now onto the people. Â If you are over 21 and puking all over the bathroom at 10 p.m. on a Thursday night, it may be time to seek help. Â And when the mid-20s Kate Gosselin look alike started dancing and clapping along with the music, I knew it was time to make a quick exit. Â
But it can't be all negative (or can it). Â I will say that the wings were edible and the service was good. Â Our waiter was very attentive and for that, I give them a star. Â But I won't be back.
We had a group of 10 people come here on a Saturday night after a day at Six Flags. Â We were starving after spending a day on our feet. Â The meal started off with $2 Bud specials, and $3 Yuenglings, unbelievably cheap compared to prices in New York! Â
We started with the crab fries which I expected to be good after reading a review of this place. Â They were not. Â If you want some crinkle cut fries doused with old bay seasoning and some bland cheese-based sauce to dip your fries in, then order this dish. Â I also don't know why they are called "crab fries" since there is absolutely no crab flavor to it. Â
For entrees, we ordered lobster tails, dungeness crab, and king crab legs. Â The lobster tails were nothing special, kind of bland, very forgettable as I don't even remember how they were cooked. Â What I do remember is that there were really tiny! Â They looked like crawfish tails, or just large shrimp. Â
Fortunately, the meal took a turn for the better because the dungeness crab dish was really delicious. Â The meat was moist, sweet and perfect with just a little dip in butter. Â Yum, yum yum. Â The king crab was almost but not quite as good as the dungeness crab. Â I think they have to freeze them so it loses a bit of flavor. Â But still very good with tender meat, and cajun seasoning outside the shells. Â
The bill came out to only $35pp, which was really cheap for a pretty good amount of seafood and beers. Â I guess I was in between about giving 3 or 4 stars. Â I would eat here again, but only order the crab dishes.
Was sent to New Jersey on business to prep for the upcoming tax season. First night in town the locals took us to Chickie's and Pete's. I had heard about it from past years, but now had the opportunity to try it myself.
I had an order of the crab fries which were delicious. The dipping sauce they give you is just sinfully wrong in a good way. One of my colleagues ordered the tower of beer which kept him happy all night long.
We had another local colleague join us later that evening after hockey practice. He ordered the mussels with the tomato sauce. He got me to try them; I had never had mussels. I have loved them ever since. Those were some of the best mussels I've found.
Great night with great friends and I came home with a t-shirt.
Monday nights aren't usually the best times to go to bars. This past Monday night / Tuesday morning, one of my friends turned 21, so we wanted to celebrate her birthday. We tried a few other bars, but to no avail, as they were all closing because it was not busy.
We arrived at Chickie and Pete's around 12:15. To our delight, they were the one bar in the area that didn't shut down early.
Most bars will give the birthday girl a free drink, MAYBE two. C&P went over the top with their service. There was four of us and we all got a few rounds for free. The bartender was a very cool guy. He'd suggest shots or make whatever he wanted. He even told us that if we  ordered something and didn't like it, to just order something else to replace it. One of the managers there also bought us a round of shots,  something that he created, which was quite the hard hitter.
C&P was the best bar atmosphere I've experienced in a long time. It really seemed like they were more focused on us having a good time than collecting a fat check (the check could have easily been double what we paid). As we were leaving the bartender even invited us back for "Bomb Night". We took the bait and asked what night that was, to which he replied "any night you want".
"Its on the house!"
Not something you often hear from a bar on any occasion. However at Chickie's and Pete's in Bordentown, service is just as important as making a buck. It was one of our friends 21st birthday and the bartender was awesome the entire time. Every other round of shots or so were on the house and he also put in his own suggestions. If he didn't know how to make something he made sure to figure it out and even told us if it wasn't good, to not worry about it and just order something different to replace it. The manager even came over to give us his signature shot, the "Screamin' Cootie". I am not sure what was in this shot, but it was tasty and definitely hit hard! All in all, it was a great time with great service and I can not wait to go back to eat and enjoy the bar on a Friday or Saturday night!!
