Amazing food - pizza (some of the best in Philly believe it or not), crab fries, crab, mussels, hot shrimp are some of my faves. Â Knocked to 4 stars bc the beer selection could be a little more interesting & the seating is sooo cramped on a busy night (but if u want more room go to packer ave or blvd). Great neighborhood feel to it.
Review Source:Holy mother of fried salt. The famous fries are the saltiest thing I've ever eaten, bar none.
Otherwise, it's bar food. Service is attentive and professional (at least it was for lunch). No complaints except the beyond-salty fries. They tasted good and I ate a lot of them, I just felt like I was going to die afterward. That kind of salty.
Was expecting a much better meal at this well known eatery. We had the chicken Italian and some wings. Wings were very good but the chicken Italian was chicken fingers from a bag on a roll with was suppose to be provolone but was a creamy white American that wasn't very good. Service was great which encouraged me to go from 2 to 3 stars. Probably won't go back.
Review Source:Original location = Tiniest location of them all
However, the food is just as good and the location is very convenient. Â They don't have the biggest menu but trust me, you cannot go wrong with anything! Â The mussles and cheesesteak nachos are incredible. Â Only problem, it is loud and extremely small. Â If you are okay with that, then you'll love it. Â Like I always say, you have to try Chickie's and Pete's. Â You just do!
Ok so Chickie's... This location is the original bar that started it all. I Think the crab fries taste much better at this locale then say down the ballpark. Â This is nothing special in terms of its charm or atmosphere because it is just a small neighborhood tavern with its regulars at the helm. If you are from jersey and want to come to chickies go to the one in south Philly. I remember driving down to this place when we were in high school and getting crab fries for ourselves and everyone back at the keg down penny pack. Good memories and great fries... Hate how they sacrificed quality for quantity of locations. I got a chicken sandwhich down at citizens bank park from them and it was like a docksider with a piece of cheese on it on a mediocre bun. The crab fries are also way to salty down at the stadium. The boulevard location in northeast philly is nice and they seem to have the best food all around. Love their dungeness crab and their mussels red with bread. Their beer is beer.
Review Source:This is my favorite of all of the Chickie's & Pete's locations. Â It is the original one, and has a much smaller, cozier, neighborhood bar feel than the one in south philly or on the blvd. Â The food is great, and the menu is well known. Â Not a huge menu, but it's a great menu becuase everything on there they do right. Â LOVE the hot shrimp, mussels, crab legs, all served in a bowl with delicious sauce and fresh bread to dip in the sauce. Â Of course the famous crab fries can't be missed. Â Yummmm. Â
Drinks are average, what you'd expect anywhere, average priced. Â
The upstairs bar is without a doubt my favorite. Â Thurday - Saturday Rob and Jeff run the show and they are the best bartenders in the world. Â Love them!
I was first introduced to Chickie's and Pete's over the summer by some relatives, who told me that I must have the crabfries. Of course I became addicted. A short time after that, we moved quite literally two doors down, and it's always a favorite when we don't feel like cooking. I love their wings, as well as the cheesesteak and cheesesteak nachos. Our service is always great, and the food is always hot and fresh and consistent. I've heard their pizza is pretty damn good too, so I am going to try that pretty soon.
Bottom line, if you're looking for a good place to get together with some friends, share a couple baskets of crabfries and some beer, you're in the right place!
Disappointing - no quality anymore. It's like they treat customers like a number with no emphasis on good food. Just awful as NOTHING is fresh! Ordered wings, they were given to us within 30 seconds. Because they had been sitting out! Greasy, oily with no seasoning!! Their "special" crab fries that they sue every beach restaurant in a 500 mile radius for their trademarked name (who does that!) are awful! Frozen crinkle fries with Old Bay seasoning!! Seriously?? Don't bother!!
Review Source:I really just wanted some crab fries, so I called ahead to see what their wait was. They said no wait, so I figured I'd just stop by with my hubby and 2 young kids to get some. Not only was I ignored by waiters whose attention I was trying to get, but I could not find a host. When I finally did speak to a waiter to ask if I could just seat myself at an empty table (there were a few), he told me there was a host. When the host strolled in from outside, he told us there was a ten minute wait. WHAAAT?!!!!
Oh well, we left. No crab fries today. :(
My best friend lives in Philly and chose Chickie's & Pete's for lunch for us during my short visit to say hi. It's very simple: seafood, burgers, salads, and beer.
A must-get are their crab fries, which are french fries sprinkled with crab/fish seasoning. We got the mixed sweet potato fries and regular potato fries and were not disappointed!
The chowder I got was very, very good but only had one lonely shrimp in it. At least the flavors were good and it was served with a huge loaf of italian bread! I got a burger, too, which was pretty awful... small, dry, and no pizzazz whatsoever.
Another reviewer put it best: Don't expect much if you go here and you won't be disappointed.
Place sucks !! Â Overpriced everything. Â I remember this place when it was the only Chickie's & Pete's around, a nice, quiet corner pub. Â Suddenly, and for what ever reason, it became "all that." Â Prices went off the charts. Â No beer is worth the price they charge.
Now they have additional locations. Â No doubt ! Â It's because they are making so much money.
Of all the C&P locations, this is by far the best. Â Probably because it is the original. Â Of course, the crab fries are a must if you are visiting here. Â The cheese on the side is delicious & freshly made. Â I also love their sandwiches, seafood, and beer towers.
They tend to bring the food out in weird times and not altogether which is strange, but that is my only "complaint." Â Great spot!
I don't know how the other people on here were brainwashed, but this place sucks. The original is still a fairly cool little corner bar, but the one on the Blvd and the one downtown are absolutely wretched institutions. The food, with the exception of the crab fries, (which are pretty good, although they are just fries with Old Bay and melted cheese, not exactly patent worthy, contrary to what Pete thinks), is not good. There are never drink specials, and there is definitely an elevated level of douchebaggery.
Review Source:The crab fries and cheese make this place. Its a great environment to watch a game and have things to munch on. Don't expect to have a full fancy meal. I think their crab legs are waaay over priced. The rest of the food is ok but not great. You haven't lived until you've tried the crab fries :)
Review Source:Crab Fries. =)
The only thing I have eaten from here and they're good. (Although I thought I was going to actually get real crab lol, they're actually just crinkle fries seasoned).
UPDATE:
I had the cheese sauce on my fries YUMMM. Now I know why everyone loves these so much, it's the sauce that makes them. Alone, you know, they're alright. But with the sauce, they're really good.
so I always hear about the Chickie's and Pete's crab fries, and I'm driving down the Blvd the other day and see them, so I decide to pull off and give them a try. I got the chicken parm sandwhich, which wasn't bad, and the crab fries, which are the most over-hyped thing in this city. There was nothing special at all about them, I've had much better french fries out of my oven, and just throwing some old bay over crinkle fries does not a legend make...
Review Source:-isn't it chickie's and pete's?
-saw bon jovi on oprah saying this was his fave place when in town, hadda try it, specifically mentioned crab fries
-huge!!!
-any sport fan's dream place, sports on tv every corner of your eyeball
-wait was not too long
-our service was awesome
-the food to kill for, everything we had was a hit
-crab fries were addicting, and no...they are not made from crab, just seasoning
-actually really reasonable prices
=IT PAYS TO WATCH OPRAH (which i only can if i'm home sick cuz you know, i got one of them J-O-Bs)
Okay I have to admit I have yet to go here (and since I live in SF it may not be soon), however, I felt compelled to write a review (or pass along this information) since I saw this restaurant talked about on the Oprah show! Apparently it is Jon Bon Jovi's favourite place and I will be craving those crab fries until I can taste them (and then I am sure I will be dreaming about them every night!)
Review Source:I have only one regret from moving into the city - no more Chickie & Pete's!!! I was a frequent patron of the NE Philly location - the place is huge yet its almost impossible to not have to wait. There's good reasons for the wait - everything seafood-related on the menu. Do not go to C&Ps for a chicken parm or pizza. Go for the Alaskan Crab Legs and crab fries. Honestly, the fries and accompanying cheese sauce are the best fucking fries you'll ever have. The crabs wont let you down either, smothered in spicey garlic sauce. Wow. Bring a bib! Dont forget the mussels either.
Get a couple of pitchers of beer and you'll have yourself a wonderful evening in front of massive wall to wall screens playing local philly sports while screaming dudes with no teeth add to the ambience. Two days later your hands will still smell of crabs. You wont mind because each time you smell them you will be taken back to the delicious land of crabs and fries.
If you're in the mingling mood, def check out the South Philly location. Hordes of hot italian south philly chicks pop their gum and look sexy here. just have your rap ready, they're a handful.
