I wish Yelp would allow me to rate this with less then one star...The food is terrible, staff is clueless and Management is incompetent.. Â My 7 year old ordered a kid burger and it was was junk,...I complained and sent back (NO Manager visit?)...& we waited 22 min for the replacement (told them to make it to-go).
Waitress dropped the check & ran; when I reviewed the bill, they charged us for both burgers?...The Waitress said "My manager told me to bill you" . Â I immediately called the manager over and he denied instructing the waitress to double bill us (for the disgusting burger my son was initially served) and he acted like he was doing us a favor by taking it off our bill...total disregard to customer service. Â I ordered a cod sandwich on a guacamole ciabatta...sounds good right?...GROSS!...the bun was soggy, about 2.5oz of heavily battered cod that tasted VERY bland...Wife & Mother-in-law split a beef tip/penne dish...the beef had some weird artificial taste and 1/2 of it was not even eaten. Â
I get it... it's a bar...& the beer selection is excellent....just be sure to eat before you go there!
From a suggestion of one of my clients, we met at CK Diggs in RH and it was exactly what I was looking for. A great sandwich shop with great service, and if it was later in the day, we could have enjoyed a frosty cold one while we were on the patio taking in the sights and sounds of the corner of Auburn and Crooks. We started off with the fried calamari that the other half of our two-person party ordered, which turned out to be delicious, but a tad heavy on the garlic and cilantro but enjoyable nonetheless. I will have to say I altered my sandwich from the standard due to my love of the combination. I also suggested they add it my way to the menus, which of course were ignored. I ordered the classic Ruben but instead of sauerkraut, I substituted it with coleslaw. These combinations are just wonderful. In addition to a great sandwich, it was huge and had to struggle to finish it. So big in fact that we ate at 1:15 PM and did not have to eat for the rest of the day. I will definitely be back for the great "Steven" Ruben, especially since my new office is down the road. Where is my frequent flyer card CK Diggs because I will be racking up the hole punches? Â
Oh, and good prices too.
I have been visiting this establishment for over 10 years now and I must say, I cannot remember when I have had a bad experience here.
Starting off with the beer selection (41 taps) and over 100 bottled beers, you can get a sense that this is not your average local brewpub. The atmosphere is decorated in an eclectic style, with several TVs posted around so you can watch your local sporting event.
The food is good and certainly does not disappoint with quality and portion size.
CK Diggs was hubby's recommendation after we snuck away from the kids for a few hours to get their holiday gifts. It's a central meeting place for lunch with some friends of his during the week.
I liked the casual atmosphere. There were a couple company holiday parties going on while we were there, but it never seemed overall noisy in the bar/restaurant. I had the chicken piccata and it was delicious (if a lot more than I needed to eat in one sitting). The sauce was creamy and smooth. I'm a huge artichoke fan, so I really liked the big pieces of artichoke too.
Overall, I wouldn't drive the half an hour or so out of my way regularly to eat here, but if I'm in the neighborhood I wouldn't pass it up either.
On my initial visit to this restaurant, I was slightly underwhelmed, although I didn't have a bad experience. Â Even though my initial intention was not to be a regular here, I lived very close to CK Diggs' and ended up going there pretty often after all. Â Why? Â Because this place has, hands down, the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Â You can get it as a side, or you can get it as the main entree. Â
CK Diggs is one of those local places that grow on you. Â We've since moved out of state, but for anyone who has the opportunity to visit, I'd wholeheartedly recommend CD Diggs.
I used to drive by here every day on my way to work and never bothered to stop in. Â That is really my loss. Â I had very low expectations walking in. Â The service is slow, so that sorta met my expectations. Â However, the food for lunch was really excellent. Â I ordered some sort of open faced chicken sandwich that was smothered with asiago cheese, bacon, and some sort of artichoke sauce. Â Chew on that for a second . . . . Â Of course it was excellent! Â I ordered onion rings on the side and they were pretty solid, too (not necessarily spectacular). Â I wish I was there after hours, so I could partake of their beer selection. Â They have . . . wait for it . . . non-Michigan craft beers on tap. Â Bestill my heart . . . .
Review Source:3 words: Blackened Salmon Fingers
They were OUTSTANDING. Â Super tender, perfectly blackened, and the cucumber wasabi sauce was re-donkulous. Â My mom had a Cobb Salad and said it was really good as well. Â I can't wait to come back here and try more! Â They have some good weekday specials, so if you're in the area Mon-Fri definitely check it out!
Wow. The reviews kind of surprise me. I know I've been a little spoiled having a mother that was a great cook, growing up, but I didn't think so many people grew up on microwave meals and TV dinners. I just dated myself by saying TV dinners, didn't I?
I've driven by CK Diggs 100 times, but never stopped in until recently. Â I'm afraid, unless I'm just going for a beer and maybe a burger (which I haven't tried) I'll drive by another 100 times without stopping in.
It's hard to find fault with the beer selection. Â Although, people that are really into their micro-brew and craft beers (which are the people that would be inclined to go here) will tell you their beer is served too cold, which it is. Â When you put the effort into an impressive beer selection like CK Diggs has, you should really go the extra couple steps and do it right. Â I love a cold beer as much as the next guy, but... just like a fine wine, if you serve it ice cold you lose all the flavors, aromas and nuances that make them special. Â Call me a beer snob if you like, but ice cold is for Miller, Coors and Budweiser. Â Not for the guy that spent 15 years living on Ramen noodles, carefully tuning in his beer recipe. Â
On to the food. Â If you're going to serve chips & salsa, at least make them great chips & salsa. Â Not Gordon Food Service chips & salsa. Â I don't know if that's where they came from, but there are definitely better brands out there. Â Even local ones. Â I'd be happy to pay an extra $.50 for Garden Fresh from Ferndale. Â
The blackened Rib eye steak... this is what provoked me to write a review. Â Seriously guys? Â The thing looked like the Coyote after he gets run over by a steam roller. Â I'd be surprised if it was a half inch thick. Â Reminded me of Ponderosa. Â There's a reason why you don't see many of those around anymore. Â Blackened... blackened doesn't mean burn stuff in a pan then throw a steak on it. Â It was really harsh and tasted like a Kingsford charcoal briquette. Â I have to give them credit for getting the temperature right, though. Â Don't ask me how you achieve that with a thick burnt crust on a less than half inch thick cut of meat. Â There's definitely some wizardry going on back there, but I still had to buy another 'too cold' craft beer to get the taste out of my mouth. Â
For some reason, I want to like this place. Â I'm willing to give 'em another shot, like I said, for a burger and beer. Â They have good atmosphere, but they need to drop the cook at get a chef. Â As my brother would say, "Sometimes the truth hurts... but it's still the truth."
Been missing this place since leaving Michigan in 2007. What do we talk about? The beer or the food or....the Beer Club!
Let me talk about the Beer Club first. It's pretty simple. They give you a list of 100 Â beers, you have 6 months to finish it, after which you get a T-shirt and your name etched into the wall for prosperity and bragging rights. You can find my name TWICE etched. Needless to say, beer selection is no concern.
Let us talk about the food. I have been told their entres, pasta, and pizzas here are excellent. Unfortunately, I have the food tastes of a savage, and never got past the appetizer section. I love their HUGE nachos, fantastic Cobb salad, and potato skins.
Admittedly, I was skeptical when I first arrived at CK Diggs. Â As a lapsed vegetarian, I've often shied away from "bar and grill" destinations, but I was invited to join a group of friends who swore by the place, so I wanted to keep an open mind. Â I'm glad I did! Â After downing a New Holland Dragon's Milk Ale (CK has a lot of Michigan-specific alcohol options), I decided to partake in the boneless wings (hot, of course!), the blackened salmon fingers, and the Thai Pizza - all of which were superb! Â Since then, I've been back with family, and they've shared my enthusiasm for the CK Diggs cuisine. Â My only complaint is that the bar can tend to get quite noisy during sporting events, and little kids roaming around can bring the place to a dull roar. Â So, if you're looking for great bar and grill fare, look no further than CK Diggs - just don't expect a tranquil ambiance!
Review Source:Okay CK, you've redeemed yourself in my opinion.
After a few different trips here, I haven't been unhappy with anything I've ordered. Â French dip? Â Good. Â Turkey wrap? Â Good. Â Fries? Â Good.
Prices are pretty reasonable for what you get, and their drinks are strong and not ridiculously overpriced. Â Great selection of beer and the place gets pretty packed on a Friday night, which should be an indication that something is right!
CK Diggs is a great place located in a strip mall that sometimes gets over looked. Although from the outside it looks like a "bar", the inside gives the "bar and grill" atmosphere and is very accomodating.
The biggest draw to this place is the beer selection. They have over 40 beers on tap and another 100+ beers in bottles and cans. Chances are, there is something that you have never tried before. To go along with their beer selection, there is a beer "challenge/club" that you can partake in. The challenge...drink all the beers on the menu in an 8 month time frame and you will be inducted into this prestigous club, plus get a cool pint, t-shirt and your name on the wall. The real prize is to say that you have tried all the beers.
Aside from the beer selection, the menu here is awesome! I have been here numerous times and have never had anything bad. Their pasta dishes are amazing and give you plenty to eat. I personally love the tortellini. Their personal pizzas are also delicious and are enough to feed two, although I have been known to eat one myself. The Thai pizza is their specialty item and is out of this world. CK's is not known for their burgers and while they are good, I have had much better elsewhere. Their sandwiches, however, are very good and you should try their specialty sandwiches. All sandwiches and burgers are served with pasta salad, which is awesome! Sometimes I order a large bowl of pasta salad. In all honesty, ALL the food is great!
CK's always has food and drink specials. Best beer special is 6 domestic long necks for $12. $0.20 wing specials on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Highly recommended!
Ok I was Naughty.. I stepped outside my gluten free box and had the pan fried Lake Perch! It was so so so yummy!!! I can not get that in Chicago at many places, so I probably sound like an idiot to anyone who lives near the great lakes! Our service was prompt and attentive, the wings were on and the food was tasty..what else is there to say..ohh yeah they are part of the http://restaurants.com GC participants!!!
Review Source:One of the better Local Sports bars in the Rochester/Troy area. Â They have one of the best tuna salad sandwiches in town. Â Great selection of beers and also a fairly extensive hard liquor selection.
Pizza and burgers are great and their soup of the day is always good.
The place can be noisy and depending on the number of smokers it can be smoky. Â The wait staff is always friendly and service attentive. Â The bartenders are knowledable and can articulate the difference between a larger and an ale.
Highly recommend this place for groups and for just an afternoon watching sports and drinking beer.
A nice, classy yet casual place to grab a drink with surprisingly good food. Â Friendly staff. For some reason the clientele is always 10 - 15 years older than you'd expect from the hip decor. Â
The food and beer selection are great. Â Their 10" pizzas are perfect for two adults to split and are outstanding - the Thai pizza with Thai spices and peanut sauce is a knockout. Dinner entrees are excellant. Â They pride themselves on a good selection of bottled beers and wines - chances are, you can find something new and delicious you haven't tried yet!
Overall, C.K.'s is a satisfying middle ground between a neighborhood sports bar and a nice resteraunt. Â I'll take it over the similarly targeted chain bars any day of the week.
I used to come here often with some friends, who made themselves regulars at this place. Â I've never been in there with more than handful of other people (not including my friends). Â Somehow, it always ended up a good time. Â The staff there is really personable. Â This place is kind of in a random location, strip mall in Rochester right near Troy, and nowhere near any other bars or anything. Â So it's definitely not the kind of place to include in a bar hop. Â But if you have a group, large or small, and you are just looking to hang out just with each other, CK Diggs may offer up the atmosphere you are looking for.
