I enjoyed a flawless Shrimp Panzanella salad. A vinigarette and Focaccia croutons to kill not to mention the shrimp which were cooked just right. Unfortunately my fellow diners' steak and salad were sub par. The prices are reasonable and service is pleasant and fast. I enjoyed my individual experience  and would enjoy a return.

OK, really? This is the hyped nice restaurant of Lowell? We were so excited when my mother in law came to town and offered to take us someplace nice we hadn't tried, so we picked here, of course. We wanted to love it, because its walking distance from our apartment, too.

But...well, the waitress never brought us bread. The pasta were greasy (even the chicken marsala, which I know is made with a creamy sauce here, unlike many places. I was expecting creamy, not oil-slick-on-a-plate.) The bouillabaisse was pretty tasteless, though it had a fair amount of seafood. Service was really slow, and the meal felt super overpriced for what we got.

Moonstones, run by the same people, is WAY better and more fun.

The service and food are very good. However, prices have recently been creeping up into the unreasonable range, particularly for drinks. During a recent visit Dogfish Head was $7 and Guinness $6.50, which seems very excessive. Enjoy coming here but don't think I can return with such inflated beverage prices.

Great selection of beer and the food is top notch. A little pricey but worth it. They have a great bar area featuring one of my favorite beers, Kentucky Bourbon Ale. My girlfriend and I usually stop in on a weeknight and order a few apps and some tasty beers to wash them down. So far we've tried the Blackened Jumbo Shrimp and their Wild Mushroom flatbread. Sometimes we'll get the steak tips which are also very delicious. The bartender could use some personality but other than that this place rocks.

I've only dined at the bar. Good experience each time I've been there.

Food is always great, from burgers and sandwiches in the bar to steaks and seafood in the dining room, not to mention tasty desserts.   Food seems to get even better every time we go.  Owners are committed to the community and while that is why I went the first few times, we go back often for the great food and service.  I've been to a number of events on the 2nd and 3rd floors and in the side room when you walk in.  They always provide a fun, professional atmosphere for community and family events.

Geat service...good food, but most likely wouldn't go back because it was a standard experience at a high-end restuarant.

This is my family's go-to lunch spot after all the road races we run in the downtown Lowell area. I've only ever eaten in the bar/lounge area.

They have a great variety for lunch from apps, salads (add chicken/shrimp/salmon/steak tips, etc.), sandwiches to full-size entrees. Although, recently my father ordered a California chicken wrap and they were all out of wraps so he had it on a bulkie roll. Who runs out of wraps?!

The full-size entrees for lunch would be a bit much for me, so all I've ever had here is a salad with shrimp, chicken, or salmon added. Ingredients have always been fresh. I recently shared the truffle fries and had a a salad with salmon. The fries were shoestring, and I would have liked thicker cut fries, but after running a race they did the trick!

Extensive beer and cocktail menu and average to above average service. We will continue to come back, and I'd come back with friends for martinis and apps in the bar.

We started with drinks .... Martini's were well made....wine selection was adequate.  For appetizers, we tried the ribs, jumbo shrimp and two different types of oysters.  All were excellent...especially the ribs...melt in your mouth good!  Entrees...I had the special for the evening...petite filet and lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus.  Very, very good...steak was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes had the lobster claw meat in it and I believe a bit of bisque for flavor.  My date had the sword fish ... Once again...excellent...lite and the accompanying sauce was tasty.  Another of our party had the rib dinner ... Very good as well.  The presentations of all the dishes were classy and clean.  Only reason I didn't give Cobblestones a five star rating was for the decor...bland.  Looks like an old boarding house .... Old New England charm.  Service was good and very friendly.

Interesting that S.P. of Cobblestones (who happens to be the owner), never bothered to reach out to me, even though they clearly have my contact information.

My husband was sitting next to me throughout the conversation, so he was able to hear both ends of the conversation, and was as equally apalled as I was.  Furthermore, my colleague was seated accross from me throughout the poor service and meal, and I wasn't rude at all - nor would I be over a meal, as I agree that there isn't any reason for that.

Anger isn't a part of my nature, and if you want to call me unreasonable because I wasn't interested in a lunch on the house from someone that preferred to defend poor service and food quality, than to be genuinely concerned about the guest's experience, then so be it.  The server was rude, the food was poor, and no one from management saw any reason to touch base with me or otherwise follow up or even attempt to genuinely apologize.

But threatening?  Hardly.  After politely declining the offer of lunch on the house, and explaining that I just wanted to call to make sure that they were aware of the situation prior to posting on Yelp, it was the manager on duty that became threatening to me repeatedly telling me "I wouldn't do that" as though the mafia would be visiting my home shortly thereafter.

While there are undoutedly several "glowing" reviews, possibly some fabricated ones, and certainly other less than glowing reviews like mine, this is the beauty of the freedom of speach our constitution provides us, and the Internet (and Yelp) have enabled us to exercise.

S.P, I can agree to disagree with you... As for me, don't worry, I won't be back there anytime too soon, but given the many choices in Lowell with far better food and service, it isn't really much of a loss on my end.

    Cheers.

This place is always mobbed on Friday/Sat nights... they have typical pub food along with other more exciting items.   They always have raw oysters that supposedly changes often (a chalk board of 50 locations) but have only seen it stray a couple times.  The bouillabaisse is amazing particularly on cold winter nights.   The bar is cramped... and perhaps it's me but i always get stuck sitting next to the annoying middle aged couple that feels it's necessary to strike up a conversation... the beers on tap are boring to be honest (they have some contract with harpoon and always have a 100 barrel series on tap).   They have a great list of bottled beer though.

If this place rotated their taps and wasn't so crowded with annoying people I would go more often.

Love this place! I've been going for a while now and the food never disappoints!

What I personally think is really good :
Buffalo tenders are to die for (I don't eat chicken, but these get me to eat chicken!)
    Fried Brie
    5 Onion gratinee
The Yahoo Burger (obsessed with their matchstick french fries, and their BBQ sauce)
    Mac and Cheese

These are what I rotate in getting when I go. I do plan on trying the other things on the menu eventually. One of the times I went the waitress told us they make everything (including churning their own butter) by hand except for the blue cheese dressing, which makes me love this place more! My only complaint would be the service can be hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get fabulous service, and sometimes you can get subpar service. The desserts are pretty good too. I will keep coming back. I don't get the people complaining about the decor. It's an old building, and I think it's nice.

Love it! Food is great, the bar is cozy and the staff friendly. There will NEVER be any problems here at the bar as the police station is right across the street and they often frequent the place after shift. A very nice mix of 20's, 30's, and 40's patrons. The restaurant is elegant and a perfect V-Day date.

My wife and I stopped by the day after Christmas (it was a Wednesday) at 7:00 pm, thinking that it would be busy, but were surprised to find the dining room nearly empty.  There was one group of four leaving as we were entering, and one other couple.  The bar, on the other hand, seemed lively.

I was intrigued by the decor and feel of the place, which was old timey (in a good way).  The drink menu reflects this with lots of bourbon cocktails.  I was not feeling adventurous, so I went with a Hendricks and tonic, which was made well, and not overly expensive.

To start we had the cobbleskins (I think that's what they were called), which were their take on potato skins.  They were tasty, but slightly overcooked.  I had the mushroom risotto, which had pieces of braised lamb in it.  It was cooked well, and I enjoyed it, but I thought that the lamb didn't really add anything to the flavor.  My wife enjoyed the steak tips, which were broiled perfectly medium, but thought that the accompanying mashed potatoes were bland.  By that point we were pretty sated, but we finished up by sharing a piece of cheesecake.  It was tasty but we weren't blown away.

Our server was prompt (maybe a little too prompt - he brought us our entrees before we had finished our appetizer), polite, and attentive.

We would definitely return, but perhaps on a weekend evening.

Hadn't been to Cobblestones in years and was pleasantly surprised by the experience.  Three of us went in on an off night for a few drinks in the bar and then dinner in the dining room.  Beer selection on tap was top notch, and the service was great.  Amongst the group we had sirloin steak, prime rib, and a scallop dish.  All were cooked perfectly to order.  Will be going back.  The also do a comedy night once a month that I hear is a pretty good take.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place...I thought it might be typical pub food but, no!  They surpassed my expectations by leaps and bounds!

We sat at the bar and our service was fabulous.  The bartender on (sorry I didn't get his name!) was sweet, attentive and efficient.

The food is prepared with care and incredibly tasty.  We ordered a Yahoo! burger (sooo flavorful), a vegetable wrap (yes, they even did vegetarian well!) with sides of fries (small and crispy, much like McDonalds, but better, of course) and potato "Sally".  It's named after the owner's mother because it's her own personal recipe for potato salad.  That sold me and I was very glad I went for the pitch.  Y.U.M.

They also have a formal dining room if that's more your thing!

I have been to Cobblestones a few times but never reviewed it, so here goes. Eight of us were here Tuesday night at 6:30 to celebrate a friend's birthday. Even though the place wasn't too crowded, the parking situation behind the restaurant wasn't ideal. We knew to cross thru some parking lots to facilitate our exit.

The restaurant is near downtown Lowell and has that "historical" feel. Too bad it's across the street from a cheap gas station.

The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful, although she was a bit slow accommodating our requests, like more water, lemons, and sauces. I had the misfortune of sitting on the outer edge of the round table, toward the middle of the room. There was plenty of room behind me, but the waitress banged my chair about 15 times, no matter how much I moved closer to the table. Was getting a little annoying but I didn't say anything (surprisingly enough ;-).

Our apps consisted of onion soup, fried calamari, and artichoke and spinach dip with chips (maybe there were about 5) and carrots and celery and cucumbers. Granted, we shared, but the portions were very small to begin with. The artichoke dip could have been warmed more, but the calamari (although a small portion) was good. The calamari themselves, were smaller than we're used to getting. The bread was boring, but the waitress let us know that the butter mixture was made in-house. I don't eat butter, but everyone seemed to like it, judging from the fact that they wanted another little tub.

We had glasses of Malbec, a bloody Mary, and sangria. The wine came in a large glass, so it looked like there was only a splash of wine in there. Tip: Use smaller glasses to make sure it looks like you're getting more than a sip's worth.

Entrees, all quite good, consisted of scallops, halibut, grilled salmon, and scampi. None of us tried the meat offering. Once again, the portions were pretty small. You were allowed one side, which for us included a baked potato, rice, broccolini, and cauliflower au gratin. The waitress had no problem letting us substitute a small salad for the side.

We shared a blonde brownie with ice cream as well as crème brulee, both good choices for desserts.

Our host paid for dinner and I have no idea what the meal cost, but I don't think it was as outrageous as the bill from Burton's or Capital Grille. We'll be back at some point. Just won't be tomorrow.

3-4 stars for service, 1 star for parking, 4 stars for the meal, 5 stars for the company = 4 stars.

The owners also own Moonstones, in Chelmsford, which is located in the spot that was formerly The Ground Round. We haven't been there yet but may try at some point. I checked out the menu, and it's a little high-priced, in my opinion.

Was looking for a place to grab dinner before a concert at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.  We made a reservation for 16 people at 5:30pm on a Friday night and they gave us our own private room.

Amy our waitress was awesome. Very pleasant and efficient in getting us our food orders into the kitchen so we'd be able to get to our concert.   Two of our other friends showed up a bit later and Amy was able to get them setup and their orders in.  Great service and food.

I had the special braised short ribs, that were very tender and tasty with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots and parsnips.  Others got the prime rib which looked great and the chicken marsala on paparadelle noodles.  Great price and atmosphere.

Next time, I'll need to stay for a more relaxed meal and try the desserts...

I went here last year. Definitely a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful area, right on the edge of Downtown Lowell. Parking was a bit difficult to attain, but we made it work. Inside was very inviting, and it felt like a nice sit-down restaurant that you would find in an area like Boston; it was also cool to think that I was dining in the same restaurant that scene from "The Invention of Lying" was filmed in.

The food was great too...however, as a college student, this is definitely a splurge I would not be able to afford regularly. Thank goodness I wasn't the one treating that day. I got the chicken parmesan over pasta, which came out to a cool $18 for a serving of spaghetti, marinara, and a small chicken breast.

All and all, I would definitely go back...when my wallet can accomodate it!

Always have had a great meal here. (my fav is chix marsala)
we've tried the seafood stew, steaks, and salmon, all great.
nice wine selection, and oysters are always fresh.

yesterday we stopped in for lunch.
i was a little annoyed with the lack of sandwich selections, but i opted for chowder $5 and flatbread appetizer. $11?

i was super impressed with both, so perhaps I would try a sandwich next time. the selections were minimal, but i'm sure the quality is great, like everything else there.

honey got the fish tacos which is was super impressed with, made with mahi mahi.

i had a glass of house malbec, which was delish!

my mom had the apple bread pudding, which she raved about.

    pumpkin beer with cin/sugar rim.

our server was sweet, fast, efficient and personable, wish i had gotten her name.

the owner was there, greeting and making sure everything was satisfactory.

    $83 for lunch for 4,
    4 alcoholic drinks
    1 coffee
    3 soups
    1 flatbread (serves 3, 6 slices)
    1 dessert
    1 fish taco

Food has always been really good upscale food. Service has been hot or miss. The parking lot is tight and can get full rather quickly especially at peak times.
Well worth checking out. Classy atmosphere. Great restaurant to bring a date to impress.
Bar has some good local drafts.

Interesting historical building, and hefty menu.  I really wanted to go to their other restaurant, Moonstones, but there is no way to get reservations.  Cobblestones clam chowder is home made with that bacon back drop that a true yankee kitchen can pull off, well balanced between cream and broth, good clam chunks.  We also tried the mushroom flatbread - very flavorful.  Fish and chips is a decent portion, good, but nothing serious to write home about.  But the dissappointment came when we ordered the bone in rib eye that had a honey chili glaze.  We asked NOT to have the glaze and unfortunately they MARINADE the beautiful piece of meat in this stuff.  I don't want "sweet ribeye" leave alone one with a bone in... Its a 2.5 not a 3 for killing a great piece of meat with a subpar marinade.  Disrespectful!

Very nice staff, interesting building, GREAT martinis.  Food, hit and miss, choose wisely.

I have been to Cobblestones many times.  From sitting out front at the bar for apps and cocktails while talking with friends with the game on in the background to Easter buffet to dinner with the family in the main room.  The beer is always cold, the food is always great, the cocktails always generous and everyone has a great time.

We celebrated my father's 70th last night at Cobblestones and it was a great night.  There were 25 of us so we reserved the French Room ahead of time.  It allows for a private dining experience with plenty of glass showing the main dining room so you do not feel isolated.  Very nice.  There were many menu options from the full menu, to a scaled down version of the full menu to a group menu.  We chose the group menu and everyone was very happy with the choices.  The Prime Rib was the most popular selection and everyone loved it.  I had the Chicken Picatta and it was lemony and delicious.  The guest of honor and mom had the Baked Haddock and there was not a morsel left on the plate.  The group menu had a crudites to begin, a salad course with a very tasty tomato-herbed dressing, rolls and bread and butter and the entree selection.

We had great service, they plated a cake we had brought ourselves (see the Cake. review I did!) and there was no plating fee charged and they complimented the plating with a dish of vanilla ice cream.  Once again we had a great time at Cobblestones and my review is probably long overdue!

I guess it is time to try Moonstones :-)

I came here on a rare, warm, Friday night to enjoy an appetizer and some drinks with a friend.

We were seated outside, as requested, to enjoy the rare 77 degree day in March.  The drinks were really good; my friend ordered two blueberry lemon drop martinis, while I savored the flavor of some Mango Mai Tais.  For an appetizer, we ordered the Cobbleskins (potato skins), which were simply delicious.  The complimentary bread was also very good.

The service, however, was a bit slow.  Granted, we weren't ordering a full meal and perhaps she gave us less than average service because of that.  However, that's not an excuse in my book.  For drinks and appetizers, we spent nearly $60, which is a bit for drinks and appetizers if you ask me!  She barely checked on us; between the time we finished eating and drinking and the time she brought our check, was maybe 15 minutes.  The tables aside of us, which each had a different server, had much better service.

So I found the food good, drinks great, but service okay.

For various reasons I am obliged to spend 2 weekends a month in the Greater Lowell Area, and Cobblestones is one of several places on my restaurant rotation. I jokingly refer to it as "Kidneystones".

The place is pretty popular, which makes their weird parking situation rather frustrating. We always wind up parking around the back, behind the Masonic temple, hoping we don't get towed.

Whenever I enter, the smell immediately takes me back to my childhood when my family would frequent The Ground Round in Yonkers NY. I swear, they smell exactly the same.

I have eaten here many times and I love that they always have oysters available, and they have a neat little blackboard in the bar area listing many different types, with little stars next to the ones currently available. Of course, I couldn't tell you the difference between one oyster or another, but its a nice touch.

The entrees have always been just OK. Not great, not bad. The last time I ate there, I had a piece of fish that was slightly overcooked. Eh, what can you do? I never leave feeling dissatisfied, but I also never leave smacking my lips and rubbing my tummy in post-meal afterglow. They do, however, have an excellent and well fleshed out selection of beers and wine.

The servers have always been really friendly, and gracious when they make mistakes. My partner once ordered a NY strip and they bought him a prime rib; they offered to remake his entree, and then charged him for the less expensive meal. They handled it really well and professionally, so no qualms at all there.

One thing they must work on here...the decor! Another Yelper suggested that the dining area looks like a funeral parlor - that is SO right on. The walls are a dark eggplant or brown color (I can't tell due to the dim lighting), and every thing is muted and dreary and I expect to see an open casket or weeping mourners around every corner. I'm sure they can liven and brighten it up a bit whilst still maintaining that traditional old school feel, no? The atmosphere in the bar area is much preferable.

All in all, Cobblestones is pretty solid and consistent, and I'll always go back, its just not that memorable.

My girlfriends and I went here on a Friday night, with reservations. We were seated very quickly by the friendly hostess.

The waitress, Blair, was very attentive, and totally awesome.

For an appetizer, we ordered the PEI mussels and they were quite possibly some of the best I have ever had - my friend Jenn dared me to drink the left over broth, and I didn't - probably because I wasn't drinking that evening ;)

I ordered the salmon with lemon evoo sauce with garlic mashed potatoes - it was cooked perfectly and I loved every bite.

My friends both has the scallops in garlic cream sauce -  one had the garlic mashed and the other had the maple glazed carrots- both enjoyed their meals immensely.

Overall, a great time and I will definitely be back again soon! The bar was super busy the entire time we were there as well.

Cobblestones is alright.  If my girlfriend didn't work there, I can definitely see me not frequenting it as often as I probably do.  I prefer the contemporary Moonstones by far.

Regardless, the food is average, and you must do the bar if you do go.  The dining room is straight out of a funeral parlor.  I know, I know...it's supposed to have that old city "charm", but that old city charm makes me feel like there should be plastic on the sofas and seats.

The drinks are nice, and they have an OK beer selection.  For food, the appetizers are meh at best.  The fried brie, flatbreads, and nachos are all par-sub par.  They are overpriced for entrees, so I stick with the roast beef sandwiches or burgers.  If you're REALLY hungry, the chicken parm is HUGE and very good.

Overall, Cobblestones is over-rated and really not good for more than after-work drinks and small bites.  However, if you get my girlfriend as a waitress, give her a huge tip so she can pay back some of the money she owes me.  Thanks.

We have been talking about going to Cobblestone for years and had never made it. Finally went last Saturday night.

It was different from what we expected (we thought it was more steak house.) This is definitely an event place. Perfect for birthdays, parties etc. They also advertise a lot of sports event's are three floors so it would be fun to watch a Pat's game there.

Some might think it pricey but the quality justifies the price. My sister had the scallops in ginger sauce and raved and raved. Felt they were the best scallops she has ever had...and that is saying a lot.

The service was terrific. As is the management. We had called ahead one evening and phone had said yes they were open. We arrived to find they were closed for summer vacation. We let them know via email and they sent us a gift certificate. That was nice and probably good business as we will be repeat customers.

Husband and I took our first visit on St. Patrick's Day, which was also restaurant week. So probably busier than normal.  The restaurant had a pretty sizeable wait time (but great authentic irish music!!) but they served the same price-fixe in the bar area and we received immediate seating.

Our server was quirky and funny, which I did not expect from such an old-school institutional place.  The Irish restaurant week meals (corned beef, shepherd's pie, fish and chips) were hearty and just ok; the corned beef was actually kind of weirdly prepared (ironically, the $2 plate we had down at Cappy's earlier on the 17th was wayyy better).

Meh. The bar crowd was definitely higher-end than the other places in Lowell along the main strip - dressed better, etc. It was kind of strange to be eating price fixe in a bar at a raised bar-height table... it was REALLY loud in there and they were playing strange teeny bopper music over the loud increasingly drunk conversations...

When I peeked in the main dining room to listen to a minute of the live music, it was like a totally different world. Stuffy floral prints on the wall/ curtain... really open and bright room.  Seemed kind of depressing actually, like having a wedding reception at the knights of columbus or something.

It reminded me of the one "nice place" in my small college town where you always took your grandma when she came to visit, because it was the only expensive place.

I think I would like the main room a lot more if they did less with florals.

This place is fine.  Not special, not amazing, not over the top in any way, but reliable in a never awful/never excellent kind of chain restaurant way.

My standards are high so the 4 and 5 star experiences are limited to places that truly merit it.

Husband and I had lunch here during the Great Plates of Downtown Lowell week on a Friday afternoon.  I had made reservations using Open Table, but that seemed unecessary as the dining room was mostly vacant at noontime.
We were seated quickly and given menus; the specials menu for the Great Plates week was not given to us, but when I asked for it our server delivered them to our table.  I found that a little odd that this special promotion was not front and center.

I ordered chicken satay and husband ordered blackened scallops.  Both were good and the serving size was appropriate for lunch.  He ordered a glass of red wine (can't recall which) and found it slightly oxidized, but did not complain.  Restaurants need to be using vacu-vin or some such method to be sure their open wine bottles don't go toxic between servings.

Anyway, it was a solid lunch on a Friday afternoon.

Cobblestones is a really great casual place right in downtown Lowell.  My loving sister was visiting for the night and treated me to dinner here.  We were both very impressed.  Depending on your tastes, eating here could be a $$ or $$$ experience.

I kicked things off with a Ketel One martini garnished with tomolives.  I now have a new favorite drink garnish.  Apparently they're not olives at all, but a small pickled green tomato.  I've never seen this at another restaurant, so points for uniqueness.  My sis sipped on a caipirinha which she described as almost a hybrid of a margarita and a mojito.

Our waiter delivered a basket of delicious looking bread and told us that it actually comes from Lowell Portuguese Bakery on Gorham St.  The bread itself was devine and the compound butter (thank you, Food Network, for introducing me to this term) served with it only made it better.  I believe it was fresh dill that was mixed with the butter.  Again, like with the tomolives, more points for raising the bar on simple things like drink garnishes and breadbaskets.

The menu is pretty standard American with some steaks, fish, chicken, etc.  They've also got a great sandwich menu which you can order from in the dining room.  On this particular evening, they were having a lobster mac and cheese special.  I must say, one of the best I've ever had.  Tons of lobster meat, peas, pancetta, some buttery breadcrumbs on top, and a wonderfully cheesy sauce to tie it all together.  My sister had the Italian muffaletta sandwich.  It was HUGE and she could only eat half of it.  Lucky for me, she left the leftovers with me and they made a great lunch the next day.

Against our better judgement, we both had dessert.  I opted for the refreshing lemon sorbet.  It was not served in a hand-crafted crystallized suger bowl as the menu states, but served in a martini glass with pieces of the crystallized sugar artfully placed within.  After the incredibly rich and filling meal I'd just had, it was the perfect ending.  My sister's chocolate chip cheesecake was a generously sized slice and quite good.

    Two tips/things to note:

    1)  Parking is limited.  There's a small lot alongside the building with 2 hour parking.  Behind the building it seems like there are spaces, but some are marked "Unauthorized vehicles will be towed" so I wasn't about to chance it.  Other than that, it's street parking.  Usually not too much of a problem in Lowell, but still can be a pain at times.

    2)  I haven't been, so I can't comment on the quality, but they apparently do a Wednesday lunch buffet now for $11.95.  I'm hoping to convince my coworkers to trek up here someday soon for this.

Cobblestones is my absolute favorite place.
My standards for restaurants and service have heightened from being in the Boston area and working downtown.
However, this restaurant and its bar knocks most Boston places out of the water.

    Extensive wine list.
    Year-round oyster bar.
    Awesome drink menu..martinis look awesome.
A great variety of beers on draft

I usually bring the same good friend of mine each time I go in.  He says he has dreams of eatting their steaktips!
I tried one last night from his plate (after fighting him off)and it was delicious!
I usually get the Mediterranean-ish appetizer. It marries perfectly with my glass of wine.

So beyond the food and drinks...what else is there?
Oh yes, they have a half dozen flatsceens with a sports games on normally..that is key.
Usually good service...the food seems to take a little long at times, but the drinks happily hold us over.
And the old building and decor makes it feel very cozy.

I am NOT overexaggerating when I say this is my alltime favorite place!
I would recommend it to anyone who comes into the Lowell area!!

Food's not bad, Grandma still loves the place and drags me there.  The chef's food leaves a good taste in your mouth but the owner going on local food blogs and posts after newspaper articles blasting anyone who has a critique of anything in his place leaves a bad taste in your mouth.  God forbid you say the place isn't perfect.

I did like the dining experience, but the guy's boorish on-line rants is such a turn-off I really can't see giving him any more of my money until he COOLS IT and appreciates compliments and criticisms rather than going ape-shiz at customers.   Too bad, his chef reasonably descent buffalo chicken tenders.

I've changed my review to reflect that this guy HAS cooled it and I no longer feel hesitant to dine there lest I "set off" the wrong person.

I've now been to Cobblestones a couple of times..once for lunch, once for dinner. It seems like the "go to" place for politicos on Lowell due to its proximity to City Hall. The interior is on the "clubby" side, conservative but comfortable. The service was great for lunch and atrocious for dinner.

Dinner service for 10 people requires coordination. That was the last thing shown by the staff at Cobblestones. The servers had no understanding of what dish went to which person, orders were not properly taken, and one person did not get their first course. This does not bode well for a place like Cobblestones, a place that wants to cater to groups.

The food is serviceable, decent but not great. I've had a burger that was decent but cooked to well done when I had asked for medium rare. Their chowder is good and has an interesting herbal taste.Their entrees are serviceable and do not stand out as any better or worse than other restaurants that are of the same size as Cobblestones.

In the future, I'll take friends and guests for a drink in the bar but head somewhere else for food.

I visit Cobbles at least once a month. My favorites are the great oyster selection and fresh salads. I order the haddock a lot, it's always great. The French Onion soup is the best. My husband loves the chicken marsala.

    Best mojitos in the summer.

    Service is always good.

I have been probably 20-30 times and never have I ever had a complaint.

As for pricing, We normally have a few drinks each, half dozen oysters, two entrees and it runs about $100. (Sometimes we go CRAZY and it's $125). Eating in the bar is nice too, they have a great bar menu if you want it a little lighter on the wallet.

I don't understand all the high marks this restaurant has garnered.  The food ranges from bland to entirely unseasoned.  The last time I went I had a burger, which is simple enough to prepare, and the thing tasted like they'd done nothing more than throw some meat on a hot pan.  I could have made a better burger at home!

True, their food appears to be perfectly edible if you just need some sustenance--but when eating out and paying good money I typically expect my food to have a little more flavor.  There isn't anything *wrong* with Cobblestones, but it isn't exactly appealing either.  It's the sort of place you might want to take your great aunt if she has a dyspeptic stomach.

Every time I have gone to Cobblestones I have walked out smiling huge!  I love this place!!!
I usually venture into the bar for one of their amazingly delicious martinis.  John, one of the bartenders knows how to make a great one!!  The appetizers are so yummy!  The buffalo tenders are the best I have ever had!  I also love the MEDITERRANEAN-ISH dish which is filled with yummy foods, grilled vegetables, hummus, pita chips, balsamic tomatoes, sliced prosciutto, salami and provolone cheese -SO GOOD!

I have only sat down for dinner once in the main dining room, usually its just the bar area.  The one time I sat in the dining area I was sure I would be doing it again.  The service was great and the tables were comfy.  I had the SEARED SEA SCALLOPS which were served in a Cajun cream sauce, Oh my goodness this dish was one of the best I have ever had!  My boyfriend had the steak tips and said they were excellent.

The prices are a little high for Lowell but so worth it!  I don't mind paying for a great meal.

The only negative that I can see is the parking, PAIN IN THE BUTT!  The lot in front holds about 6 cars and then its on the street you go.

Dear Cobblestones:  You are delicious, you have fun, cool menu items, a good selection of beers, and an awesome staff.  Why do you have to be so expensive?

Cobblestones is cool to get beers and share a meal or something but as a twenty-something bum like myself, its too expensive to be going there with any kind of consistency (or to have your own meal).  (For example, the most awesome Macaroni and cheese (with peas and onions) is 15 dollars. yes you read that right.  but there are some cheaper appetizers like flat bread pizza for 11 dollars that you could have as a meal.

Also, it gets pretty busy by the bar on weekends so you may have to stand around like a vulture waiting for a table

We've been to this restaurant several times in the last year, and the food quality keeps us coming back.

Price is kind of high, but you certainly get your money's worth.  Drink selection is fantastic.  I haven't been to the bar, but their 'special' drink list is impressive.

Service is usually very friendly, and we haven't run into any issues yet.

Parking is basically non-existent, so you'll have to find a spot in the area.

This place is most certainly worth a visit.  I'd also recommend it for a special occasion.

So we've been there once I really can't remember too much but as Far as I remember it was pretty good. Please be sure to check back next week. Friday is our 5 yr anniversary and we have a gift certificate so I'm sure we'll be posting something good about this place..

Okay update 9/3/06. So Firday night dinner was terrible. For a $24 order of scallops and chese tortolini there were only 3 scallops and not huge either. I would say the total weight was about 5 - 6 oz. Cream sause that they were in was very bland.. wife ordered the stripped Bass this was even more bland than my scallops. Apps very over priced we got the lobster and crab cakes.. Okay lets make a note crab cakes for whoever of you had them before contain all crab meat. This concotion was loaded with bread crumbs and I could only fine one little piece of lobster in my cake which was about the size of a silver dollar. Earlier I gave this place a 5 well I must of been bombed the first time I was there.. I'm downgraging to a 1 yes a 1
