This is my new favorite restaurant.  Delicious food and great atmosphere.  It is very kid friendly, which is a plus for me, but I could see why others wouldn't like it.

Had lunch here yesterday at the tiki bar.  Food was good; service was good

I was wary of coming here for two reasons - 1 yelp reviews 2 did not like the establishment that was here prior.

Well, despite my fears, we ate here. We got to sit on the deck on a beautiful day with minimal wait. They called us when the table was ready. I love the kids play area, its a good distraction. There was a dj playing music on the deck so you felt like you were on a mini vacations. Servers and such were very attentive. They have great orange crushes, the fried pickles were delicious and the crab cake with sweet potato fries were very good. The cream of crab is different, not bad but I may pass when I go back. The prices for kids meals was very fair.

I will definitely come back and hope the services/food is just as good if not better.

The perks of Coconut Joe's are the view and the prices. The food itself...leaves a lot to be desired. Weird combinations (green onion dressing?) and the service is often lacking. We have given it three chances and won't be returning.

Great location. Nice deck. Terrible service. Food is just ok. I had the big island sampler. Everything was good to ok but the mini crab dip had NO crab meat or maybe it was ground so fine it wasn't visible.

1.5 of these stars are for the view.  The food is mediocre at best.  They have a few good items, a few average items and many below average items on the menu.  I have been to this place 10-20 times, as it is popular with some of my friends for the meat market aspect, in those trips I have received good service once.  I have been double charged for drinks 2 times during a busy happy hour before.  The crowd at happy hour is fine and into the evening is okay, but after 9-10pm it turns into a low class meat market with a lot of flat brimmed hats and neck tattoos.

    Pros:
Pork nachos, Salmon BLT, real orange crushes, VIEW

    Cons:
the rest of the food, late night patrons, service, loud inside and out

Absolutely horrible food. McDonalds is a better choice.  The service and view was alright though.  Good luck, ya'll.

We arrived just before noon on a Sunday.  There was no one - NO ONE - in the joint.  It reeked of bleach and a fly or two kept circling our table.  For reasons having to do with immense hunger, timing and proximity, we sadly decided to stay for lunch.  So take this review with a grain of salt, hopefully with the margarita I recommend that you order if you ever stop by for a meal.

Our server was very nice but she was wearing the most shorty-shorts I have ever seen in any establishment, let alone an establishment of this sort.  Perhaps it was helpful on weekend nights where the Miller Light flowed freely, but on a Sunday afternoon I didn't want to see that much skin and I can't imagine that the other families who later filed in wanted to see it either.

After ordering, it took at least 25 minutes to be served our lunch.  Really - 25 minutes after being the first patrons?  As soon as we were served, our aforementioned server stopped by to see how things were ("um, we just got it? I guess it's OK?") but after that there was no check-in other than to deliver our check after we had to ask for it, and  we never got refills on our water or coffee.

To sum up the last few minutes of our meal, the flies kept circling and the bathrooms reeked even more of bleach... and basically I will never go there again, even though the chicken sandwich wasn't terrible and the inverted donut ham sandwich also "wasn't terrible" in his words.

If there was a way to rate this place with "0" stars, I think I would....

I've learned throughout my previous 2 years of visiting this place, and others nearby on the water, that it's incredibly difficult - if not impossible - to find good service, on the water. I've given Coconut Joe's, multiple changes to change our opinion on the restaurant, yet it never fails.

Before I go any further, I am not expecting a fine dining experience, but something that is relaxed, care free and fun. In short - an experience that meets the ambiance.

My most recent experience, our party waited for 3 hours - and still were not seated. We attempted to get the attention of servers working in the bar area outside to help us or to order drinks from - and each of them buzzed by us without acknowledging we were there. Although it was busy, there were still open tables outside for seating, plenty of staff, and yet no one was willing to help.

When we arrived, we let the hostess know we were there and looking for a table outside. At that time, she informed us that there would be roughly a 1 hour wait, and that she needed our cell phone number to inform us when our table was ready (their buzzers weren't working). We checked back with her after 1-1.5 hours, and she had informed us it may be a little longer.

Needless to say, we waited, waited some more, and continued to wait. While we waited, we watched several tables open up. At one point, there was 5+ tables open outside, and none of them were being seated. At that time - we had waited atleast 3 hours, and the hostess told us that now - there was an issue in the kitchen.

At this time, we finally gave up and left. We arrived at the restaurant hungry - 3 hours prior. Besides the wait being extensive, the staff wasn't willing to help. Further, we attempted to contact management to notify them of the issue - and there was no response.

Unfortunately, this experience comes after multiple bad service experiences at Coconut Joe's. If you choose to go, please be ware that the service is slow (if it shows up), the food is mediocre, and the drinks are over priced. They rely on their atmosphere to survive.

I'd recommend saving your time and heading elsewhere. There are way to many restaurants in the area to waste your money here.

Dinner time! So there are hardly any customers in the restaurant (which should have been our first clue) and several people "working". Yet it still took 10 minutes to seat us with no apologies. The hostess was drab and not very excited to see us. They seat us in the dining area and it is blazing hot so we ask the waitress if they can turn up the AC.  "Ya, it's on it's just always hot in here." Mind you you the bar area is nice and cool with working fans. maybe they should invest in some fans for their restaurant. So, we are hungry and have several children to feed and there is no time to go look for another place to eat. I look at the menu. Seriously...is this a joke? Hawaiian...style food?  No Poi, no traditional pork dishes? Alright fine...I know we're in Annapolis. She asks if we want drinks and I ask for the Watermelon Crush(?) which is featured on their table top drinks menu. "Sorry we're out." Oooookaaaay. Never mind. I won't go into gory details of everyone's dish just a few. Mind you we all ordered together and half the dishes come staggered with minutes between them so people are waiting to eat while others are waiting for their dishes. The dishes were served by three different people...where's our waitress?...no idea. A few minutes pass and even the dishes that came late were barely warm. Really, we would have left but we were far too deep into it and everyone was hungry. My kid gets the mac and cheese - it looks like it was re-heated, definitely not fresh but she was okay with it. I ordered the most Hawaiian dish I could find which is the fish tacos. You ready for this? It has pieces of lettuce, not shredded lettuce or cabbage, with loads of goat cheese and diced tomatoes. Uh...WTF!? Definitely not Hawaiian or even Mexican...not what I was expecting. I try it and it is surprisingly not horrible but, the fish was fried and mushy - seems like it came out of box and was just gross. My wife orders the sampler, she tastes a couple items and she is disgusted. Frankly no one was really happy about the service or the food. We all agreed that we would never come back. After the meal we went out side, where they have a nice a little play ground for the kids. Of course this wasn't the restaurant's fault but, it didn't help that some of the other patrons' kids were out of control and were not watching nor disciplining their kids. The only explanation for the better reviews is that they must be drunk and unaware of the service or the taste of the food. The bar outside has a view of the South River and the bridge and was filled with drinkers so, I guess their drinks are okay...but, I wouldn't know since they were out of their signature drink. My advice to you...runaway!

This establishment is a water side bar that serves food. It is not a fine dining establishment with fine dining restaurant trained servers. It is meant to be a casual fun, kick back relaxed experience. It caters to families with children during the afternoon and early evening. Later it attracts singles and couples.

This is a very good dock bar with above average bar food and service. Is the service great every day? No. Are some of the menu items mediocre? Yes. I give them high marks on many of the appetizers and entrees. Overall great price/value and exceptional atmosphere. RELAX

    Dear Management,

       Where do I start?

I've been visiting the Nut couple of times a year since it opened.  Each visit I leave trying to find a shred of a reason to come back.  The view from the decks is great and the idea that you area somewhere other than Edgewater keeps me going back.   I love to be outside and have a burger and a beer.

The food is mediocre but edible a tad overpriced, specifically the entrees.  Stick with the sandwiches.  Flank steak sandwich is typically above average.  Pulled pork is usually dry but has a decent flavor.  The rest of the sandwiches and entrees kind of fade away from my memory not good or bad enough to remember.  The highlight would be the coconut shrimp with the raspberry sauces.

The service is typically well below par compared to other seasonal restaurants like Mike's, Cantlers or even Slyfox.  On my last trip a friend and I were sat on the deck.  After about 10-15 min of waiting after the staff cleared our table we realized we were not going to be waited on.  Waitress service was not available so we ordered beers from the bar.  When I asked what beers they had in the bottle the bartender's response was "I'm not going to tell all of them to you.  Here they are." as she motioned to the bottle tubs that lacked a sufficient amount of ice to keep the beer cold.

Apathy towards customer from staff and management drives me through the roof.  I think I'm finally done with the Nut.  I tried to like again and again but it lets me down almost every time.  I would like to see the managers train the staff to be attentive and act like the guest they serve at the restaurant is like family.  Good Luck.

I had to downgrade after the lack of customer service, organization and quality we received on my last visit.  I organized a Girl Night Out here for their $2 crab special.  It has been advertised on their facebook page.  I arrived early and sat at the outside bar.  The bartender was busy but good.  I only ordered a few beers, nothing special.  They do not take reservations so, I let the hostesses know I was expecting a party of 6 in about 30min and we would like a table outside.  She said no problem, just let her know and she would seat us.  I told her I would be sitting out back and let her know when the rest of my party arrived.  Well, when everyone arrived, there was now a wait.  We waited forever!  When we were finally seated, the service was unorganized and slow.  No utensils, inconsistent food delivery, they couldn't find the dressing two of my friends ordered, etc.  It was just bad.  The crabs were okay.  I don't think I would pay $2 a crab for them again.  The excuse for our poor service was that they weren't used to being that busy.  Well, it wasn't that busy.  The entire inside was empty and the bar outside was by no means packed.

Tip: the seating down by the boat dock is first come first serve.  Just walk out the back and down the wooden steps.  I wish I had known this before we were standing around waiting for a table.  I don't see myself coming back here unless someone else invites me.  There are too many places in Baltimore or Downtown Annapolis with outdoor seating and a view.

This was the worst experience EVER! On mother's day you don't screw up the order for mom. My wife ordered the Nachos with pulled pork. She asked for "no corn." The nachos came 45 min later with corn. When she let them know, they returned 10 min later with corn still in it but no pulled pork. At that point my kids and I were almost finished with our food. We asked for the check so we can salvage the rest of the day. I understand it was mother's day but we waited more than 30 min for our table but it was available the whole time.

OK, So I finally got around to writing a review.. I have been here twice now and the first experience was the better of the two. I love the location on the water and the staff all seem pretty happy to work there and serve you. My first time here i had the  house salad and fell in love! This salad ruined all salads for me! Its a spring mix salad with the norm carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, awesome crunchy croutons, Chucks of Havarti cheese, and this amazing pineapple balsamic vinaigrette! Yumm! When I returned they changed up the salad a bit, the vinaigrette was alot more acidic and  they took the chunks of Havarti out which made the salad, and replaced it with shredded Havarti. Just not the same... I have to drive 45 minutes to get here,if the owner is listening Bring Back the original house salad!!! The steamed shrimp here are jumbo and delicious! Also cream of crab is ok, not much crab and alot of cream. But the salad i got here is enough to keep me driving back along with the orange crushes! YUMMY

Soup and salad was delicious! The server was very efficient and was on top of his game. Bathrooms were outdated and had cob web's everywhere. Definitely a great place for some drinks and hanging out in the sun. Boats could pull up to the docs and hang out.  Had a play area for the kids which was nice to keep them busy, not sure how the night life is, but from the atmosphere I would not bring kids at night. My only compliant is that the two times I used the restroom and came out I had a server with dirty dishes run into me while coming around a corner. Luckily nothing fell or spilled on me. (The bathrooms are right next to the kitchen)  I would really rate this place a 3 1/2, maybe a full 4 next visit.

These CoCo Joe's reviews crack me up.  Here's what Cj's is: a dock bar in Edgewater that has actually gone out of its way to be "family friendly." does that mean you should bring little Susie and Edward with you at 10:00PM while you are throwing back shots? Probably not.

C.J.'s is not fine dining, nor is it Chuckie Cheese.  It is a great place to get a burger and a beer on a summer Saturday (early) evening with your wife, kids, and others with kids.  I love it for that, as well as for a nice summer lunch.  The playground is great, and makes for a fun lunch/early dinner with the kids every time.

If I go past 8:00 PM, I will feel old (at 38) and not as familiar with the Jersey Shore or Dukes of Hazzard bodies of work as my fellow patrons.  Lots of spray tan and hair gel, on the one hand, and NASCAR and mesh hats on the other hand.  In sum, it is quintessential Edgewater.  Love it or leave it!

Always great food and drink. Consistent in flavor and quality.
Great place for kids as they can play outside on
Huge play wood ship so great for "mom play groups"!

I love it when Yelp'ers go to a dock bar expecting fine dining... lol

Coconut Joe's is a chain restaurant but I forgive them that, because the multi-level outdoor decks complete with two tiki bars and an incredible view of the South River waterway more than make up for it.

The menu isn't extensive, but it's definitely better than average if you're comparing it to most dock bars around the bay. Definitely not just bar food, but don't expect to find lobster bisque on the menu either. They try to put a bit of a Hawaiian spin on all the menu selections. The Pipeline Pork Nacho's billed as an appetizer could be a meal for two just by itself.

C.J.'s is a great place to hang out on a lazy summer afternoon to catch some rays, have a cold drink, and watch the boats go by. Night time is when it gets more lively when the live or d.j. based music gets louder and the crowd gets progressively younger as the night goes on. But there's a solid security staff that always keeps things in check and makes sure everyone is having a good time.

If you come in the afternoons, C.J.'s is very family friendly. There's a large sand covered play area with a huge  wooden pirate ship / jungle gym for small kids to climb in on and around. The line of tables along the play area make it easy to eat, have a drink, and keep the kids in your sight at all times right from your table. But if you do bring kids, have the common sense not to bring them after the sun goes down and the partying starts. This is a dock "bar" after all, and it's primarily targeted toward adults, just like any bar.

Came here for my birthday in early May. I didn't care for the interior...but I wasn't there to sit down and eat, I was there to stand up and drink. The bar on the first floor was waaaay too crowded, so my friend and I sat at the bar by the water. the view made up for the lack of action down there. Fun Staff, though.

I just got kicked out of this piece of sh** place because I was wearing a white shirt after 9:00 pm. I am a white male with no crimal record and was literally doing nothing wrong but drinking a beer. Let me repeat myself, i have never been kicked out of any establishment for any reason.I will never come back here after being escorted by 6 bounces to the front door. The bouncers even told me to f myself. I was sober and did nothing wrong except wear a white shirt after 9. Terrible, just terrible. Never go here!!!!

We actually really love it here.  My boyfriend and I end up here any time we are looking for a drink and a snack at a place with a great atmosphere.  It's not a place to go for a nice sit down dinner but the drinks are good and much less than any other venue in the area and on the water.  The food is pretty decent - I love their salads!  They also have $2 crabs on both Mondays and Thursdays!
The main downside can be the crowd.  It can get a little interesting and they have a bunch of locals/regulars that get out of hand once in a while.  The place is big enough to ignore them though!
The servers/bartenders are usually nice and attentive.
If it is a nice day outside it is a perfect spot for a cold drink and some food!

I had a great time here. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it's the perfect situation for that. There are a couple bars and it's a fun atmosphere. I got the cream of crab soup in a bread bowl (not exactly on the menu- combo of the crab dip bread bowl and soup, but they were very nice and accommodating). In fact, our waitress was very nice, helpful, and speedy especially considering that we were so complicated. We were a large group that moved from the inside bar, to the outside bar, to a table outside. However, she kept up with it all and was great. I'm surprised by the reviews of poor service below because our server was fantastic.

The soup was really good! Not too heavy and it had big chunks of crab in it, which I didn't really expect at this place. My pina colada was not very good and I would not order it again. I do not think this is a place I would go for some of the meals people were disappointed in below (ex. salmon), but my cream of crab happily surprised me so I might be more adventurous next time. They have $2 crabs on Monday and Thursday which seem worth the deal.

For families, it seemed pretty kid friendly. There was a large sand area with a big wooden boat that about 10 kids were playing on the whole time we were there next to the restaurant.

Overall, good experience for the reason we went and I would definitely go back to just relax/have fun after work or have some crab soup!

I went in on Father's Day around 2 pm and was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was not too crowded. The restaurant itself had a cheesy Hawaiian theme but the view and waterfront location were absolutely beautiful. Sadly, our overall experience was absolutely dismal. We were seated outside and waited about 10 minutes to be greeted, which never happened. Then it started to rain so we had the hostess move us inside to the dining area, again, we waited quite some time to be greeted. As we were sitting down we watched others in the dining area move over to the bar area. After about five minutes we realized why: the heat was absolutely suffocating. Our waitress told us that it seemed like the AC unit was broken AGAIN. Why in the world would you seat people in an area where there is no flow of AC?  We moved over to the bar area, were finally served drinks, placed our orders, and proceeded to wait 25 minutes for our food.

I had the black beach chicken sandwich and although the pretzel roll was good, the bacon and other ingredients were way too salty. We waited an incredibly long time for refills on drinks, extra ketchup, and then finally our checks. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service is atrocious and does not make up for the beautiful view.

Great location and such potential. However both times we have been here the service was terrible and the owner no where in sight. Our last visit was somewhat saved with a switch in waitress--our 3rd of the evening and an apology from the mgr on duty. Until the reputation turns around we won't be returning.  Food is okay, but such terrible service outweighs any potential.  Not sure if they can decide on whether they won't to be a restaurant or bar, but for sure they are not making it as either right now.

The owner should be ashamed for not being able to put together a solid restuarant together in this location. The most goreous water view, and these people give the bar a lame tiki theme and terrible food. The service is almost as bad. The menu is limited and the food is atrocious. I had the tuna sandwich, which was seared without spice, and it came with bacon alone on a dry grocery store bun. The Tuna quality was acceptable. My wife's chicken was so over-cooked, she had to send it back. We had 1 order of nachos for 8 people and didn't finish them because they were so bad - almost no cheese or chicken. The management is asleep at the wheel - don't get suckered in by their location.

I have to say I wasn't really clamoring to try this place, but it was Thursday early evening, we didn't want to go far and we wanted to eat outside.

This place puzzled me from the get go when I saw its print ads. The ads touted among other things that it was: a sports bar with numerous TVs, a breezy island waterside getaway, a venue for live music and a great place for happy hour. The kicker was itsr claim of being a family friendly eatery. How did loud blaring TVs, fist pumping clientele and cheap drinks equal kids?

It kind of sounded like they had a multiple personality disorder. Sadly, it showed. We parked in front of a large sand pit complete with a kid's jungle gym set. There were signs everywhere saying that all kids must be under supervision, yet not an adult was in sight, while the tots gleefully ran around the plastic monstrosity.

Once inside, we were surprised at the size of the place. Not too many folks were indoors, so the place looked cold and barren. We were seated on their huge wrap around deck, that had a bar and picnic tables. We noticed some stairs which led to another deck closer to the water and another bar area.

The laminated menus arrived next. Very limited selection for this kind of a place. I figured they would have tons of apps and stuff for the sporting crowd, but pickins were slim, expensive, and nothing creative. No kids menu in sight. Maybe it was separate?

Most of the items had something "Caribbean" about them, but nothing was authentic. We both ordered salads, one was a shrimp and crab, the other shrimp and chicken. Apparently the addition of dried plantains put my dish in the category of "island fare". Only app ordered was a bowl of the vegetable crab soup. It looked great, had tons of crab, but was so watery and under seasoned, that you wondered how you can have so many ingredients and not taste a thing. Salt would have helped.

The salads were ample and OK, but by then, I just kind of lost my appetite after observing the activities around us. There seemed to be a good many older bar flies, with lots of red faces and cigarettes in hand. They may have flown in from nearby YellowFin which is THE place for the older guzzlers.

Next to us sat a family of three. Mom was feeding her tiny tot some Gerber baby food. Nearby was a women with the shortest shorts and tallest pumps I think I have ever seen. Luckily she had the bod to wear it but somehow it didn't seem like the appropriate setting for daisy dukes.

The service was OK - our young lady was pleasant enough, but there was a lot of vacancy behind her eyes, and some general questions were answered with nothing but a sweet smile and a shrug of the shoulders.

We picked at our greens, asked for the check and bolted home to watch some college football. The soft pretzels with mustard really hit the spot.

Big portions, nice tropical drinks.  Biggest problem is with the time it takes for a server to deliver the meals from the kitchen.  According to our server, the chef (Brian?) is very quick with cooking the meals.  Ok.  Cool.  But then, we waited SOOOOO long for our meals... what gives?  By the time the dessert arrived, we were already ready to leave.  However, we didn't 'cause it was a special birthday meal.  We ordered a chocolate souffle dish for the b-day boy (grandpa) and when it arrived, we were shocked that the ice cream was completely melted.  it was soup. I even took a picture.  Why the waitress still served it to us is beyond me.  I know her name but am not going to name names here, but HELLO?!!!!? It took 20 minutes each time we ordered drinks.  Not in a rush today, which helped, but good luck if you are coming here and trying to make a movie time afterwards.
