It's a small bar with a lot of space given over to video lottery and karaoke. Â Fortunately the karaoke is in a separate room, a nice, thick curtain would limit the infestation. Â Unfortunately they didn't have one.
The bartenders were pretty nice and very attentive. Â They had a chili dog on the board that I was eyeing, but probably fortunately for me we left before I ordered it. Â Overall a solid local place. Â I'd come back if I was nearby, especially if the KJ was absent.
I came her with one of my best friend's one afternoon after lunch since we were looking for a dive to grab a quick drink. Â The place is pretty much a dump, but we weren't looking for anything fancy so it worked out. Â The two best things about this bar were the friendly bartender and the Jello Shots ($1!). Â This is totally my kind of place to chill out with no judgment.
Review Source:Some people are crazy!! I have been trying to get my money from The Cosmo Lounge in Sellwood for a week now. I ordered one drink and left a dollar tip making my total $4.50. "Somehow" I was charged $14.50! I finally called for the 4th time tonight and supposedly talked to the owner. She said they were happy to give me my money back, but than continued to try to convince me that I did tip that much and that there was no way that her employees would do that. She kept going and going, seriously talking over me and practically yelling at me, and I kept saying that I really didn't care what she thought, I just wanted my money back and to get off the phone! She actually said she could get out the video so we could look, but it was because she wanted to prove to me that I was wrong! What happened to the costumer is always right! So unprofessional!
Review Source:What I love about the Sellwood Strip (Cosmo, Kay's, Oaks Bottom) is that you will see several of the bartenders at each other's establishments. It's great. Cosmo is dark, it's loud, the bartenders are nice, except when they're not, BUT they'll let you know they're not in the mood, which is nice. This place gets busy and crowded in the front (there is a back section, but we rarely head back there). There's a lot of locals and even a four-legged regular :) It's fun when Kay's has a live band.
Review Source:Three words:  Dollar Jello Shots.  These are fun when with a group because you could feel baller and buy a round for everyone without going broke.  Also, the bartenders are always very friendly and the other drinks aren't too pricey.  My only complaint is the food isn't too impressive.  Its a great place to go if you are waiting for  your turn at Saburo Sushi across the street.
Review Source:I was pleasantly surprised when I visited this tiny bar in Sellwood. Â I recognized the bartender that use to work at Renner's in Multnomah Village and after she said that I noticed that this space kind of resembled Renner's. Â It's friendly, a little gritty, tator tots, two picnic tables out front and good beer on tap. Â (Mac and Jacks)
So, I most definitely suggest coming here rather than visiting the shit-hole across the street, The Limelight.
I have been going to Sellwood... forever.... but never tried this place out. So when a friend and I wanted to go somewhere to sit outside and people watch this was the only bar that had a free table out front. I'm glad we tried it out because it was a very cool little dive bar! The bartender was very sweet, they have champagne in splits, and even the local drunks were polite when they tried to sit with us but we told them to scram.... most of the time drunks just act like drunks... these were just silly and nice.
I can say that I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely visit again!
After pigging out at Saburo's and drinking some sake, we decided it would be a good idea to goto Cosmo Lounge to keep the party going. I probably wouldn't typically go to Cosmo Lounge if I was walking by but after some sake...sure why not!
It was what I expected, somewhat of a divey bar, but that is ok. 3 beers, 2 shots(1 jack, 1 grey goose), 4 jello shots and a diet coke ended up being $25. How incredibly reasonable! Atmosphere was laid back, bar tender was friendly and nice.
I would go back to Cosmo!
My partner and i decide to check this place out. Being a bit nervous we peeked in the window and though it looked fun.
The decor was throw-back retro. Velevet pictures, pin up girls pictures, and posters for b-movies. Being the holiday time we enjhoys some great holiday drinks some that that the bartender designed for us specially.
The bartender was a great young lady in her 20;s who just had the perfect attitude and made the whole night a lot of fun :) check it out you will not be disappointed.
This 'aint no Pogo's !!!
I highly recommend you try out The Cosmo Lounge. Â If you are thinking it will be just as Pogo's was... you are sorely mistaken.
This bar is just that, a straight up bar. Â Great, Affordable (stiff) Drinks, a bank of Lotto Machines, Good Tunes, Great Staff, Velvet Paintings, and Yummy Bar Food! Â
They have got a great selection of beer - draft, bottle, and can. Â As well as a nice selection of booze. Â Paired with knowledgeable bartenders... it's simply a good place to hang out.
I also like that if anyone is being an asshole, no one here has ANY problem cutting them off and kicking them out.
I have been going in on Thursday Nights to check out the DJ they have spinning AMAZING records from the 50's and 60's. Â I really dig that scene! Â Â She plays lots of rockabilly, western swing, surf, and old time rock n roll.
This is quickly becoming my favorite bar of my neighborhood. Â You can usually fit a decently large group there, and it's cheap enough to stick around a while in.
The drinks are cheap, and the service is spectacular. Â The bartenders are all really amazing nice, make strong drinks, and put up with a lot of bullshit. Â They have jello shots! Â Yeah, Jello shots. Â For a dollar. Â It's virtually impossible to pass up.
The food just fine for a bar. I think there are tots. Â Yes. definitely tots.
Anyway, the place is a must go if you're in the Sellwood-Moreland area.
I'd really like to write a more in-depth review of this joint, but my mind is just a bit fuzzy when it comes to trying to remember as much as I can about this place. Â You see, I've only been here once, and it was to celebrate my beer-league softball team's Opening Day victory. Â So, allow my Cliff's Notes to be of some assistance:
-Casey, our bartender, was very kind and efficent, especially for having to deal with a bunch of softball hooligans
-Above-average beer selection, of both cans, bottles, and on-tap
-Hi-Def TVs, video lottery, pinball (and possibly pool and/or darts, but like I said, fuzzy memory on my behalf)
-dimly-lit atmosphere, kind of like Bar of the Gods
I'd really like to make a return to this joint, maybe at night next time since I'm not a huge day-drinker. Â I'd like to give it five stars, but will have to make a return to do so.
Formerly Pogo's, a shit-hole of epic proportions and a Sellwood mainstay, they've reincarnated as Cosmos (just swapped a few letters in that name, really) and I like it! Â
There are super creepy velvet paintings lining the walls. Â The tunes are good. Â They pour a very stiff drink. Â PINBALL. Â We were assured that a photo booth is coming soon. Â Â
The bartender, while charming and adorable is completely absent-minded and messed up about 50% of all of our drink orders but was very funny and then overly-accommodating to fix it. Â Food ordered? Â He totally forgot, never put it in, but then gave us a few bucks off of our bill in the end when we needed to leave sans snacks. Â Really nice and very funny, but super flighty. Â Another bartender we'd had there was brand new (it was her first day!), similarly flighty but equally as nice. Â
Food options are a handful of fried junk food (poppers, mozzarella sticks, tots) and a couple of simple sandwiches. Â I may have spied a fish and chips option on the menu, but this isn't really a place you want to go for dinner. Â
I'll be back for the pinball. Â I smell a Pinball: Sellwood Edition list in the works...
This place gets 5 stars for doing what it does best....DRINKS, lots of em. if you're like me and only drink beer, they have an extensive list of beers on tap, and a bunch of beers in bottles and cans. Â oh yeah... they have Drifter on tap now!!!
The food is basically bar-munchie food, but the quality of the ingredients is above average.
The staff is ALWAYS professional, they will not forget you even on busy nights.
