A good friend of mine recently moved back to the area and settled in the uncharted land of Milwaukie (the Alonquin word for.... good land??). Â
It was not hard for him to convince me to leave the confines of South East Portland as I've been a little bored and restless with the usual fare. Â I thought, why yes, I shall try out karaoke for a breath of fresh air in the Good Land.
And I wasn't disappointed. Â Tonya the bar tender was excellent, fun, and fast. Â Brittany the KJ was super nice and helped make me feel like a regular my first time in the door.
The drinks were great and reasonably priced, I don't know much about the food, but my companion was sure looking forward to crab puffs and did not seem disappointed upon devouring him.
The locals were fun and welcoming and lacked the pretentious air of inner SE which was a very welcome, and very needed change. Â The karaoke ranged from experts to people goofing off, but was fun non the less and was very non threatening.
I know I'll definitely be back to join in on the karaoke fun, and call this one of my home away from home bars.
My hubby and I are weekly customers of Chan's and we enjoy the atmosphere and normally have a good time. Â My only critique would be that the KJ's keep better track of the rotation list. Â My husband and I own a karaoke business ourselves and are familiar with how to do this. Last week we were passed over, and over for 2.5 hours while others sang two and three songs. Â Now I get it that the younger crowd gets really involved and that's great. However my husband and I spend anywhere between $60 and $80 there the evening that we are there. We may not be the young crowd but we pay the bills too. Â When I spoke to the KJ about this he was very pleasent and when I countered his comment that the people singing were popular with the fact that the rotation needed to be fair and allow all who wanted to sing, had an equal opportunity. Â That is the only issue I have had there.
