Crabtree Tavern

My boyfriend and I recently ate here for dinner and it is hands down the worst food we have had in awhile. We ordered wings in two different sauces-garlic bacon and sweet and spicy. The sweet and spicy sauce was incredibly bland and those wings were super dry. The bacon garlic sauce was good...while I didn't really taste the bacon, it was still flavorful. These wings were moist....not sure why they were so inconsistent. Their menu is very limited, in my opinion. This would be fine if they could focus on those few things and make them delicious. But we found out that clearly is not the case. We both ordered their mac and cheese....I got the short rib mac and he got the Cajun version with chicken. He said his chicken was more dry then turkey four days after Thanksgiving. I tasted his, and the cheese was very grainy, not creamy.  My version had lemon it in. While the menu made this clear, it should have also had a disclaimer to let you know it is disgusting. I should have thought about it before I ordered, but really..lemon and cheese? My cheese was creamer than my boyfriend's for whatever reason, but the lemon was offputting and the dish as a whole was very underseasoned.  I got a vodka tonic and was charged $5 but could barely taste the vodka. When we got ready to pay, my boyfriend said, "well, I guess this was a once-er." Yep, I agree...we won't ever be back.

Don't be put off by the bland decor, the food is miles ahead if the restaurant's look. Even though we were groupon customers, the waiter and chef worked with us to carefully ensure that my partner, who has significant food allergies, had food to eat that was delicious and safe for him. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely return soon. I wish there was more craft beer selection but that's a bit of a nit-pick.

I have revisited Crabtree Tavern a couple times within the last 9 months and it has improved drastically since I wrote a review 2 years ago. The menu is simplified and offers more upscale bar food.  Now that I am gluten free I had to avoid all the sandwiches but I did have a very nice salad.  It is still a great place to watch UFC and the restaurant in general is much cleaner now.
